Pickling tip: try pickling young nasturtium seeds. When you pickle the tender seeds it’s called poor man’s capers. It’s super tasty and fun to pickle!

Yes, the Pearson guides are great. Tip, keep them in a ziplock plastic bag when you've got them on the stern deck. That way when you drop them in the water, they won't get soggy 😊

Another good and humorous video, I really do enjoy watching you both, maybe one video you can do is bloopers and funny bits, what I mean is one of your first videos when Danni was loading the planks of wood for your floor onto the boat and cracked her head going below😂 I still laugh to my self today. Thatch comes in either straw or reed. Straw lasts about 20 years and reed 60 years. However, with straw you only need to replace the top layer (known as surface dressing), and can be patch repaired, whereas with reed you have to replace the entire thatch. Straw thatch is thicker and softer looking than reed. Great insulation, but the biggest problem is fire as the thatch continues to work shedding water even when it is on fire, so the fire brigade will pull the roof off rather than try and put it out with water. Most fires are caused by faulty/unlined flues/chimneys and log burners. The Globe theatre is the first thatched building to be built in London since the great fire of 1666, but has an inbuilt sprinkler system.

I was going to suggest-slide the gangplank down the side of the boat into the mud and -heave ho ,sometimes gets you off the mud but it would appear your plank has gone walkies 🧐Back doors look real good 👍

I'm glad the dumpouts in NZ is straight down a pipe in a concrete hole at ground level. A Tap and hose at the top for washing any spillage. No flushing needed. Large metal lid drops down over the hole.

I dont know if you have such a thing as in about to mention, as we make it ourself, but have you ever tried canned (in jars) hotdogs that have been canned in either beer or red wine?
My uncle runs a beef farm (plus chickens, Pigs, turkeys, ducks etc) and has a whole butcher shop in his basement. Because of that all us family buy our protein wholesale and butcher it ourselves. And one of those things is to make out own hotdogs and we pack them in about a dozen in tall jars , fill them with either homemade beer or homemade red wine, then vacuum can them using boiling water. With the limited refrigeration space that might be ideal for you, and then you can use the beer or the wine to cook down your onions

I can't remember any of you falling into the water using the rainbow bridge but I'd say it would be safer to double it because if it has a clasp that allows it to fold it would be a lot safer being twice as wide. I figured yall have talked about it because a few times when carrying supplies on the boat I thought one of yall might fall in, and I'm sure there will be a pub night were having a widened walkway would be a lifesaver...

Agreed! Definitely depends on what’s under the water though. Yes it is high on our priorities we just haven’t had the right weather or mooring!

Yeah I’m really glad I took out the DJI Care refresh on this one, think you’re allowed 3 x replacements with a small amount of excess & they’ll even send it out before you return the old one so should arrive within a couple of days

😂😂 umm so a rough calculation is 1 litre of diesel per hour, ours is an old lump so maybe 1.5 litres, we could do 10 miles in about 6 hours so maybe £10, £1 a mile-ish

We’ve got an exciting trip planned for winter, there’s nothing more miserable than a winter in England - especially when on a boat 😂
You're now further than we got - the locks were broken when we got there so it was a choice of overstay or turn back around. We'll be back up there after we're blacked in Devizes in November (can't remember if there are any stoppages off the top of my head, so might not make it past Wooton Rivers before next year).
Re: pickles, I've a metric tonne of onions done, got beetroot and jalapenos to do this week. I've tried using apple cider vinegar instead of malt vinegar on my onions this year, its meant to be nicer and less KAPOW apparently 🤷♀️. I've also done jams (plum, and blackberry) and blackberry cordial, with rosehip syrup and hawberry sauce to do now they're all ripe in the hedgerow ❤

Aw it’s very frustrating when locks being broken stop you in your tracks. Hopefully you’ll get here soon. Mmm that all sounds delicious, I’ve seen it’s not good to use homemade apple cider vinegar unless you have your own Ph tests as most of them are not as acidic as the shop bought stuff. All very interesting 😊
@@DanniandJoeI hadn't heard that about apple cider vinegar - I bought mine though so it should be okay. Just made some plum jam (from scrumped plums aha) and some pickled beetroot though 😍
