Hi D and J , another great video again, when i fitted new locks i sprayed a bit of wd40 into the barrel it helps the new keys slide easier or a bit of vasiline does the same thing. See you next week 😊

Hey Guys. Just for info I got my Marine VHF license around 1986 and last week I purchased a Radio. Also shocked regarding the latest rules of which channels to use on parts of the Canal. Didn't realise that some parts of Canal you have to have radio on board. World's gone mad on rules and regulations. Cheers from really getting old George. PS it's the IWA pdf document. Pretty sure Narrowboats exempt on Thames.
I didn’t know that either! Yeah so the Thames is fine until it turns tidal (Teddington) but if you’re only going as far as Brentford then you’re exempt, any further south than that & you need it
Another great video and the scenery along the way is so pretty I was on tender hooks watching you going through the last lock but you did it . Job well done putting on the new locking system now your boat will be more secure. Hope you get over your man flu quickly Joe .
Making great progress, well done. Loved the sawing wood in the park with a reciprocating saw 😂 I see you've upgraded the from Mini 2 to 3 Pro now. I have one too, awesome bit of kit - and much easier with the integrated screen. Plus obstacle avoidance to help you dodge those power lines 😉 Don't forget about the 2 FRZs on that to overlap the Thames on the way into London. Don't want you getting into trouble with the CAA/Police. White Waltham FRZ at Maidenhead, and London Heliport FRZ starts at Hammersmith. You miss the Heathrow FRZ by about 600m. There are other Danger Areas and Restricted Areas, but you can still fly your drone in these - just be extra careful. Many folk including me use Drone Scene to check before flying, others use Drone Assist. Keep up the great work 👏👍
Yes that screen is way better than fiddling with the phone! It’s the Mini 3 that I managed to crash! The sensors didn’t pickup the cable 😫😂 thanks for the heads up on those I did see some of the areas were restricted!
Hi Joe. I take it by your comment you never watched Leeand Allie from the black swans video. Dynamic Dave said a message to you about the door locks you already had saying they worked both ways inside and out. You didn’t need to buy more door locks.
In a later video you’ll see me use the garage locks for our hatch & this gatemate means only having to open one lock not two so worked out better anyway We don’t tend to watch many boat UA-camrs as after living on the boat, filming our boat and then editing the footage for hours it’s nice to watch something else 😂 what did we miss?
You two always cruise in such nice clothes 😂 puts our joggers to shame! Well done on woolhampton & glad you didn’t have any impatient drivers to deal with 🤭
We’re terrible at keeping clothes for cruising separate from best, before you know it I’ve got a brand new white t shirt on getting covered! 😂😂 yes got lucky with the drivers - not even a horn was beeped!!
As permanent cruisers, how does the licence work when you get to winter and the canals close down? Do you still have to move every few days? Kindest regards, love you blogs👍🤗
Thank you! Oh they still want you to move every two weeks. There will be closures but usually the distance inbetween them means you’ve got a fairly large stretch you can cruise as normal
Hi Joe, as you might remember I to have a BMC 1500 in my boat, I’m interested to find out more regarding your oil leak? did you find where it was leaking? Cheers
BMC 1.5/1.8s have a pair of inspection covers - right hand side when looking at the crankshaft end, just below the head/block joint. The covers have cork gaskets very similar to the rocker cover gasket. If you're losing oil, check/replace these, as they're notorious for leaks.
@@CruisingTheBroads ah yes the pushrod covers, mine weeped oil for nearly 5 years until I’d had enough and replaced with cork I cut out of Cork Tiles! The original/ pattern gaskets for BMC are a ridiculous price now, I’ve even made a rocker cover gasket from a large cork tile…👍🏻
Yeah I checked the inspection covers those seemed fine surprisingly! I did find a fuel hose without a jubilee on it & a lot of the liquid in the tray actually appears to be diesel so fingers crossed. The sump itself actually does seem quite oily so I’ll try and clean that and see where exactly it’s creeping out from
Your engine is leaking no? There was a video with a outboard 2cycle 6hp pushing it a canal boat.2.5mph. with minable fuel consumption. You're diesel engine has seen better days. It sounds like a fuel consuming beast, you need something more fuel friendly. From a diesel car or van? Or a Honda outboard gas powered? Save money in the long run.
Yeah it wouldn’t take much to move a narrowboat, they do recommend 40hp minimum though (think of the power required to stop 20t of steel!), gas (petrol) is a bit difficult on the canal, not many places sell it Canal side (only diesel), we’re looking into a new motor though and some upgrades in that department

Yeah that’s great advice, we usually hang our keys up in the same place just incase!
