- RIP Merle! Song starts at 1:38.
The Waltons - Season 5 Episode 3 - THE COMEBACK (1976)
Jason's scholarship at the music academy is canceled so he gets a job at the Dew Drop Inn. Red Turner, played by Merle Haggard, who lost his son, played by Ron Howard, in an earlier episode, is grieving and stops performing, but Jason talks him into performing again at the Dew Drop Inn.
Here is Merle singing the whole song.
Nobody's Darlin' But Mine
• Merle Haggard - Nobody...
Come lay by my side little darlin'
Come lay your cool hand on my brow
Promise me that you will always
Be nobody's darlin' but mine
You're as sweet as the flowers of springtime
You're as pure as the dew from the rose
And I'd rather be somebody's darlin'
Than a poor boy that nobody knows
Be nobody's darlin' but mine love
Be honest be faithful be kind
And promise me that you will always
Be nobody's darlin' but mine
Goodbye little darlin' I'm leaving
I'm leaving this cold world behind
So promise me that you will never
Be nobody's darlin' but mine
Full song written by Jimmie Davis

Merle Haggard and 'Nobody's Darlin' can't get much better than that.
Cant get any better then that-----
The greatest Waltons Episode ever.
Dad was stationed at Fort Sill (Lawton, OK) at the time this aired, and Mom recorded this from the speaker to an old cassette recorder so she could play it. Mom was a huge Hag fan. RIP Mom (1952 - 1997)
Sorry for your loss, she was so young . GOD willing we will all reunite with loved ones some day 💞🙏✝️🕊️
@@susansheldon3177 I absolutely believe that. Yeah she turned 45 just a few months earlier. The “ big c” got her. Led fairly healthy life. Didn’t drink smoke etc. things just happen I suppose.
@@megiloth3634 they do, we lost a lot of family these last 3+1/2 years.2 brothers, 4 sisters, the 4th sister only a month and 2 days ago from a massive brain stem bleed. It's hard, but I keep my Faith in The WORD of GOD , and that gets me through.
There will never be another Merle Haggard. He was awesome 👏🏼
The Hag is missed by many many people. RIP Merle
Merle, his voice, a guitar and a great story to sing...
BEATS EVERYTHING Coming out of pop Trashville today....hands down.
JOHNNY Angel, here it is 2 years later and your comment still stands true today. You could write on a rock, and it will NEVER BE wrong.
Yep!
Kinda like Hank William Sr. Huh
Second coming of hank
Very lovely.
THE ORIGINAL MOLD for how a classic country voice and music should sound . Awesome !
Merle Haggard lifted his entire vocal style from LEFTY FRIZZELL. It was so blatant both he and Lefty use to joke about it. Merle was a better songwriter but it was Lefty's style that continues to influence country singing to this day.
@@catfishcooler1566Long Black veil....
Merle is my favorite, his voice is mesmerizing , I’ve never heard anyone else that could out sing him
between Merle and George Jones wow what an era in country and gospel music
@@mikemayer764ciao Mike! 🙋♀️😍😘💘🌅
His son’s sound a lot like him.
Merle was, is, and always will be the man. I have yet to hear anyone who even comes close. RIP MERLE
I saw The Episode Of the Waltons just today, this man's voice is just beautiful and comforting.
Also usurper que dans l’autre vidéo. .. heart voice beauty all for him ..i love this countryman like one crazy RIP 👍👍👍❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏😭😭😭😭
the good old days,never again.............
This scene always brought a tear to my eye. Merle was great.
For sure me too no matter how many times I watch it , actually more I think .
Crying now
Boy, that's good. His voice instantly gets down into your heart.
It's gonna be a long time before the world sees talent like Merle. He truly a once in a generation gift.
"Atta Boy Red!!!" Love this episode! Switching actors for the Red Turner part seems a little hokie, but Ken Swofford (great actor) never could have pulled off that song. "Atta Boy Merle!!!"
My Dad and I both were always HUGE fans of Merle Haggard and he always sang Nobody’s Darlin to me when I was little. He wanted it played at his funeral but my awful mother wouldn’t allow it. So every time I visit my Dad’s grave, I always play this song along with a few other songs of Merle’s my Dad loved….😓
My ex wife loved the waltons. God bless her and twenty tears togeather
merle never needed fancy lights or smoke on his shows he uses hs wonderful voice to make his fans happy
Merle Haggard, the best voice in country music. 👍
That’s a beautiful guitar
I was watching this program and thrilled to see Merle perform, years ago. I've never forgot how beautiful the performance.
The best, right!!!
I saw that show too.
I am not a country music fan, but this is fabulous.
Greatest of all time! The Hag is sorely missed…
That's something special right there! That's one of the best scenes from any episode of the Waltons.
To me the Golden Voice of Country. So sad he's gone.
One of the gifts in my life was growing up and enjoying all of Merle’s one 1 hits and was so many that he had,,,he was one of a kind,,,my book one of the greatest ever
This summer will be 30 years with my little darlin'. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Her unconditional love and support has never stopped. We enjoy watching the Waltons (made the trip to Schuyler, Va. to Earl Hamner 's home and the Waltons museum) and still watch it today. Lucky guy I am.
what a beautiful song well done Merle
Wow what a magnificent he is I could listen to him all day
His voice is so soothing & awesome. Yes Merle
Merle and The Waltons, what more could one possibly want?
One of the best to ever step on stage.
As usual, Merle is so good, what a voice, and musician. So gifted, an ICON!! Miss him, so glad he left us all the music!!💔🙏😢RIP!!
How can you not love this, just Merle's incredible voice and a Guitar, so beautiful BTW I think the lady playing his wife is so very pretty. And another BTW , type in Nobody's Darlin , on youtube , just the song and see how many people have sang it, dozens.
Beautiful song
Perfection needs no explanation . Hank and Merle would have
been some duo .
Frozen in time. A more beautiful song was never sung
There never was and never will be another voice like Merle
I have enjoyed this special appearance of Merle Haggard on the Waltons. He has a wonderful singing voice that represent the traditional country music style that is too quickly disappearing.
@ImNotMad ButUR No, not gone. But hard to find. Radio won't push back against the labels' trend of "new country," so you have to dig for it. Sad reality unfortunately.
I kept putting off going to see Merle live, until it was too late....RIP Hag......love your music, and your attitude.
saw him 24 times , met him briefly twice
Never saw this before! He is awesome as always!
Mere Haggard's voice......wow!!
It saddens my heart that we lost both Merle AND Earl Hamner Jr (the creator of the Walton's) all in the same month. They will both be remembered fondly in my heart. :(
my older brother too..
Our loss TEMPERARELY but Heavens gain. Untill the bye and bye and we all sing togeather with him in sweet harmony in heaven with the Angels and Saints by the warmth of a camp fires light 🔥and the Night stars dancing heal and toe such a pleasing sight. l
No explanation needed of who Earl Hamner was to Walton’s fans. 😉

@@EBLLC Thanks, professor.
Never knew he guest starred on The Walton’s. Magnificent as always.!
He s sure did !
He starred in the episode The Comeback as Red Turner.
He also appeared in the last episode of the movie Centennial and sang a couple songs.
Two of my favorite things Merle Haggard and the Waltons at one time. Loved the Comeback! Plus Merle wore a short brim while singing. Remember my Dad Big D always saying I got to get me a short brim like old Merle. Binging the Waltons for vacation.
Also love this song and this beauty countryman for voice sweety ...thanks Merle RIP i love you 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️👍👍😭😭😭
Nunca habra otro cantante en riqueza musical y estupenda voz e interpretacion
Gracias a dios por habernos traido a Merle
Merle had the voice!👑👑👑
Watching this episode as I type this. R.I.P. Merle.
I used to watch the Waltons every week, but I don't remember this episode with the Hag. It's great.
+Daisy Flowers oh i remember it
I don't either actually.
It was at 'The Dew Drop Inn' which Jason had purchased. 1 great Episode with "The Great Hag".
Daisy I too used to watch the Waltons every week and I also do not remember seeing the Hag.
The Mandela effect
Merle at his best for sure.
I think that Merle was the Greatest "All Around" male Country Music singer of Time. Especially when you look at his full body of work.
The best that ever sang a country song. Rip merle
Whoa I don't remember this. What a pure excellent voice he had for a simple heartfelt country song.
Wasnt he amazing?love him.pure talent.r.i.p Merle❤
Always sung from the Heart ❤ Always giving his best performance to one and all...Now Happly sings for GOD and all the Angels and Saints of heaven ; giving a FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE.
Love this man.
My wife and I watch an episode of The Waltons every night and this is one of our favorites.
Merle....his music will always be timeless!
He is my favorite country Male singer
I was blessed to go to 3 of his concerts. Love his voice and music!
RIP, Merle!! the best voice in country or any music!
Why we can't have GOOD shows and music like this again today?
Cause all the greats are gone and nobody wants to watch good tv shows, they want reality crap
I know I like this kind of music then what we have now
Wait this fall for new episodes of "Nashville" on CMT
Because the world wants trash. Men like Merle have already made the good music. There will never be musicians like him ever again.
"Yo yo yo yo man" type of people took over
Thanks for posting the segment!
wow loved that guitar
The HAG was and still is THE MAN !
God bless you Merle .
Even with all his problems as a young man, we loved and still love him.
RIP from Virginia! Wow icon legend and all around something country music might never see again! A super hero of country music!
so good brings back memories of the waltons.
so much talent, knowledge and skill for making & sharing music.
an immediately recognizable voice that sounds sooo good.
the all-time great
Young guy of 23, but my grandfather raised me to be a man as my father died when I was 10 years old. My father first showed me hunting, and than my grandfather made me love the forest as I would a person because he brought his traditions with him as he showed me how to respect nature like a good movie.. “oldies” and I call them. Im forever grateful he showed me old country that I listen to occasionally as I continue to try and be similar to him. (Grandpa)
I’m sorry you lost your dad, but I’m so very glad and grateful that you had your grandfather. You are truly a blessed man. I love the old country music, too…
@@robertmoore2049ciao Robert!🙋😍😘💘🍀

Merle doing bong hits in his trailer while guesting on America’s most wholesome show.🫡
Thanks for posting this one and thank the good Lord for Merle Haggard my old friend.
Never knew about this episode;so simple yet touching.
He starred in The Comeback as Red Turner.
Makes me cry everytime!
REAL music. None better. RIP Merle.
Love this song, " Nobody's Darling " makes me kind of sad, miss my beloved Papa Bear Lloyd.
1976 What a great year for Merle to appear on one of my favorite shows. Thanks for uploading on UA-cam - we don't have to wait for the TV to show this episode.
I REMEMBER THIS EPISODE LIKE IT WAS RIGHT NOW !!
So do I. So much, has come and gone since then, and not for the better.
Smoothest voice ever.
This was my favorite episode of the waltons.
my fav song of all time!
I love this song. It brings tears to my eyes because what Merle is saying in the song is how my late boyfriend felt abt me. Such a sweet song, Merle is a great singer!

love you
Bellissimo video...Merle aveva una voce unica...meravigliosa...😍😍😊😊😇😇😇💘💘💘
Absolutely beautiful!
Absolutely love this song and Merle. Also love the Walton’s because it’s a great show of simpler and better times and they sure don’t make tv shows as great as the Walton’s anymore. TV has gone to pot.
I love the Walton also and the song I'll be Nobody's Darling but Mine. It reminds me of my childhood.
Do you get Inspire, MeTV, TV Land channels...they show Waltons, Gunsmoke. Alot of the great old shows
@@keithhicks3006 Yes I do and I love the Walton’s that’s one of my very favorite shows from the 70’s♥️

He was the greatest and now his boys sound just like him.
