Without question, Merle was the GREATEST all-around country music artist/talent to ever walk the face of the Earth. Period. Singer, songwriter, musician, band leader, impressionist. It's a race for SECOND place. Because there's Merle.....and then there's EVERYBODY else.

I’m 25 and my biggest regret in my life so far is not seeing Merle live before he died, no matter how old he would have been. There will never be another one like him. My band gets together every weekend to play his songs. I wish I’d been alive during this time.

@David Owen You think you have regrets. I'm pushing sixty and spent most of my life listening to rock music, buying into the stereotype that Country Music was all about crying in your 🍺 and your woman leaving you for another guy (okay, into my thirties anyhow). I just started getting into Country big-time in the past few years and Merle Haggard this year. Boy, I missed out on a lot!

merle was one of the best of a dying breed. He always played Lead Guitar and Lead Vocals, thats a hell of alot more than most these so called country stars do now days, all they yell, scream, hide behind their electronics because they cant sing to save their lives and consider themselves country because they were a cowboy hat.. RIP Merle

Through a friend I discovered Haggard Back in the early 70s. I’m a guitarist and it was a Roy Nichols solo that got my Attention. To this day I don’t know why I never saw them live and now he’s gone. RIP HAGG

I agree - look at the reaction by Haggard's band and roadies to the shaking, and how you can literally see the section moving up and down - praise God there wasn't a major tragedy there that day. BTW, what a great two-song series here.
