It makes me feel so old to remember this performance when it first happened, it was a global phenomenon at the time and it has endured the years to still be recognised as one of the best performances of all time. Makes me feel very lucky to have seen it when it happened... but old...
@@gailhancocks5207But he worked so hard and got his own company together! He danced until 2016 and retired due to injury and pain. He loved nothing more than he loved the dance!

I am now a crippled woman thanks to shocking intra operative care! disgusting! Now they are saying THR but why should i have to go through this again again?? @@sueclapton I can imagine some of your pain, since I had a broken arm when I was 8. Hope you able to use a brace to help lessen the pain when you have to walk.
This dancing is a lifetime achievement and it begins with ballet lessons. I regret not following through with my lessons. I wanted so badly to learn This. It's AWESOME!! 👊👍👍👆
Michael Flatley was the Master of Riverdance !! I love watching him when he really gets "engaged" in what the group is doing . You can see it in his face . He really puts his heart into the performance . By GOD's GRACE , I got to attend their performance in 2005 . And , it was absolutely stunning !!
I've never seen something like this up thát close, but can understand it did ;) Also hard to understand something like this just didn't exist. Oh how I wish to have been a little older when this thing got off the ground. I was only 6 when the ESC interval act was brought to the world, but can remember Irish dance being on the TV SOOO much (or I just remember it that way because it was so impressive)
Had the same experience from the 6th row. After the show, my friends asked me to rate the performance. On a scale of 1 to 10, I told them I gave it 1000. By far, the best live performance I've ever seen. I've seen the show at RCMH 3 times, each time brought chills during the finale.
Sorry disagree that this is the best Riverdance. The first time it was done at the Eurovision was unexpected and magical. Nothing will ever change that and it can never be repeated. Fair enough follow-up shows that can be very good - but can never match that once in an instant surprise at Eurovision.
What I love most about Riverdance is how it helped so many young Irish girls and boys realise that they had a tradition that had such power and such beauty and that they wanted to experience it too. That is a powerful thing that a tradition gives to the people who learn and practise it. I've seen it happen in Scotland when the rock band Runrig helped people see their Scots Gaelic heritage as something cool so that the young people no longer saw it as something to apologise for. Tradition has so much to give to the people of its culture and we all get to enjoy as it is practised before us.
Those Irish dancers are magnificent I have watched them perform over the years & now it is saved on tape for all generations to watch & marvel at, Bravo.
Riverdance never left. It has been touring around the world constantly since the first show. If you check the official Riverdance website, they post the cities where they are touring each year. I, and some friends are going to see them in Philadelphia next year. (2025).
Yes absolutely, I agree I have never seen Riverdance only on UTube I absolutely love it. It's in the gene they are all absolutely amazing. I took the beginning of tap it was free, but mom wouldn't let me continue I absolutely loved it.
Thefre's ojust something about watching Jean Butler. All those dance moves are incredibly athletic, yet she makes them look effortless. And when she does leaps, she seems to just hang in the air for longer than gravity should allow....she bloody well floats on air.....amazing!!!
Looking back to the good old days I am 68 years old it feels good to look back when there were good movies and music God bless everyone from Marian E Cox from West Plains Missouri thank everyone
I love Irish dancing, but the synchronised line sends shivers down my back. I remember watching this on live TV… It was interval entertainment during the Eurovision Song Contest.
@jenniferhughes6057 yes, am inclined to agree, to do what he did, to put that choreography together would require a little arrogance, a lot of confidence and a bit of an ego i think.
Wow lads, what a show, they were so fabulous! Looking at the dancers faces, so concentrated on the movements of their feet. Saw the show in Boston in the 90's, nicer times for sure. Pity Ireland isn't the same anymore. Happier days lads!
😱 Wow ! Wow ! Wow ! what an incredible performance, the music, the dance, the choreography, these kids are truly blessed, because to be able to dance with this can only be a gift from God ! 💜🙏🙏🙏

It’s one thing to see all of those legs moving in unison. But I realize how incredibly amazing it is when I hear every one of the taps occurring at the appointed time. 🎉
I am 86 and still remember when RIVERDANCE BURST on to the stage of the POINT THEATRE IN DUBLIN during the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST interval . WHAT a fabulous night long remembered, unbelievable to say the least

They are seriously way to focused on their dancing . It’s even more incredible when they dance like pros and are very relaxed and not so focused on their dancing that really shows the true beauty behind their dancing 🕺

Buckarpp543--I used to show this to my second grade class of inner city ghetto/barrrio students every St. Patrick's Day (we weren't allowed to have parties).
