2 years ago I was going through some heavy shitt mentally. Then I found your channel and managed to focus more on self care and improving my skincare rather than all my other issues. Your skincare tips actually was one of my main ways into self care and again self love. Just wanted to say thank you for your existence and your amazing content!
You really did the right thing by focusing on yourself and practicing self love! …I too wanted to move away from the negativity of life and become “ self-centered “ and focuse on skin, body and beauty….when you focus on your beauty , it will draw more beauty into your life 🙂
I’ve been using collagen supplements for about 4 years. As a runner & free weights enthusiast , I can say it works! I’m 54 & people think I’m much younger.
@@Zoeykw1087 everything is a possibility. I don’t think it hurts to try, my lab work is always great! I will say my father currently has a lot of cartilage loss. My mother has had osteoporosis since the age of 25 due to birth control. Consider me lucky, or the fact that I take my vitamins and collagen daily for at least 10 years.
I learned that collagen production slows down after 25 and consuming alcohol increases the rate of collagen loss. That alongside learning other downsides to alcohol eventually turned me from a high functioning alcoholic to quitting cold Turkey in January! Target had a huge sale on Orgain Collagen and Peptide Powder so I purchased it and wanted to learn more. I’ve been drinking it for 2 weeks and I noticed my nails had been transparent since 2018-ish. Now they are finally turning white 🫣💛
My husband and I have been taking hydrolyzed bovine collagen about 4 years (now ages 77 and 70). His skin had become very fragile and bruised terribly, plus he has type 2 diabetes. He has ZERO bruising and tearing now. My arthritic joints are much less painful, and I do think my skin is firmer. I use Dr. Youn’s brand. Thank you for this important update.
This is just my self reflection. I have been taking collagen for 8 months, been on retinol and red light therapy for a year. I felt so much better personally. And my overall health has been improved. BTW, I'm 45. I'd suggest people take it better sooner than later
Something that myself and a couple friends have noticed since taking collagen, we all are having much more regular and normal bowel movements. I’ve suffered from IBS for years, while I still have occasional bloating, it’s improved at least 80%
I started collogen peptides 4 months ago for joint pain. I didn't notice anything (including growth in my hair and nails) But they're both thick anyway) so I was feeling discouraged, but I kept at it. Today, 4 months later I woke up and realized Im pain free! It was so gradual that I didn't even notice the change until now. I'm hoping next year I will notice it in my skin. 🙏
Omega 3 fish oil is the only supplement that made the pain and stifness in my joints completly disappear. Really good, i was shocked, in 3 weeks i saw results.
This doctor is so smart and analytical. I love how she takes these studies apart and doesn’t dumb down the content for her audience. Following her train of thought is as beneficial as her content.
Truly she is AWESOME at explaining it all thoroughly, efficiently, and respectfully! I re-listen often to notice how carefully she chooses her words... She knows so much & shares it so intelligently and freely - I just love her!!
I was reluctant to take collagen until recently. Because of the most recent studies have shown some positive results, I have started to take 5 gr/day. I am 72. I hope it will go some way to preserving not only my skin, but also keep my joints working. Thank you once again Dr Dray. I look forward to your videos and the comments of others. 💙
not that you asked, but i would suggest looking into increasing your daily serving size or perhaps switching to a collagen product with a larger serving size. in other words, because of the fact that people lose an increasingly higher amount of collagen as they age, you’ll probably benefit more from taking 10gr of collagen a day vs just 5gr. It makes sense on a superficial level since the more collagen you lose the more you would wanna take to replace that lost collagen, and recent research seems to confirm this.
I feel like since I've started about 2 months ago my flexibility training has been a lot more forgiving. It's good for skin but what I noticed most was more joint tolerance. It has softened some of my acne scars up a little, nothing crazy but certainly better than not taking them. I tried both collagen gummies and capsule peptides and felt like i got double the benefit overnight with peptides on an empty stomach than my body absorbed via gummies. Gummies just don't absorb as well.
I was diagnosed with Classical Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome about 20 years ago and have been taking powdered hydrolyzed collagen peptides for about the last 6-7 years. While the supplement doesn't change the fact that my body produces defective connective tissue, I have still found substantial benefits. My skin is still fragile, but it heals much more quickly when I take the supplement consistently. Instead of a zit tearing my skin and taking 6+ months to heal from being an open wound/scab, it now takes closer to 1-2 months. My joints sound less like rice krispies or bubble wrap popping with every movement and when I have inevitable injuries, I find that I am able to recover faster. I have taken breaks from taking the supplement off and on through the years due to money or questioning if it was actually helping. I can say with certainty there a noticeable difference when I stopped the collagen, which improved after a couple months to taking the collagen again. It's not a cure all, but it has improved my quality of life.
I, too, have eds (vascular) and was wondering if we could see any sort of benefit from it. Reading your comment encourages me to give it a whirl! The idea that my knees won't sound quite so crunchy is what got me ❤
I have vascular ehlers danlos... I need to start taking this stuff because I have multiple aneurysms. I'm only 26 and I've almost died many times from this dumbass illness.
For several months I was using a supplement with 5 types of collagen. I noticed my digestion and joints were better as well as well as my skin and hair. To be fair, I was a couple of years younger. I’m not consistently using a collagen supplement right now, but my hair and nails grow really fast. I’m also post-menopausal.
Those of us with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome would LOVE LOVE LOVE a video about our genetically faulty collagen and how to take care of our fragile skin as there are no videos on UA-cam about it. Collagen supplements are sadly unlikely to help us much as we will just produce more faulty collagen 😢
I would like to see studies where one group takes collagen and the other extra protein and see if the results that people are getting from collagen is merely to do with higher protein intake.
I’ve also been taking collagen for four years and I’m well into my 40’s. I’ve noticed significant improvement in joints, skin, hair and nails! I’m very active with work, weight training and running.
I've Ben on it for 1 year now. I'm 63, my hair had stopped growing and was breaking. Now is healthy and growing. Had bad arthritis, and could barely walk. Now I can walk and no pain.
A few years ago I took the very supplement pictured in your thumbnail and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. My face broke out like CRAZY. I've always been prone to acne but this was on another level. And it was awful cystic acne all over my face. Cost me a lot of money in IPL treatments to get rid of it. My dermatologist said he has heard of this happening before. I researched it online and apparently this has happened to a lot of people. I'd beware of this product for people who are acne prone. I feel it's my duty to warn people about this.
I'm highly acne prone. I've been taking VP collagen powder for over a year and I haven't had any problems. However, I only take 1 scoop a day or 1 scoop in the morning and 1 in the evening. I read that you are more inclined to get acne if you take 2 scoops at the same time.
It’s very true. After a few months of taking powder peptide collagen stubborn cystic acne appeared on the jaw and neck area. It settled down after stopping it. However marine collagen seems harsher on the stomach but no side effect as acne. Collagen definitely have some benefits but unpleasant side effects too.
I really appreciate what you said about skin fragility . My dear late mum who died as a centenarian had such problems with fragile broken skin and pressure sores . It would have been great to help with that if it had been as simple as her taking a collagen drink. I have been taking collagen for my joints and since doing so my painful knee has completely cleared up. Oddly -I was only mentioning this the other day- also I no longer have such wrinkly and dry elbows and knees and I barely need to moisturise my arms and legs . I use tretinoin on my face so I couldn’t comment on any facial effects.
If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of collagen do you take? Is it powdered or pill form? My knees have been bad and I just started a powdered form which is marine, but way too soon to tell if it is actually going to provide any benefits.
My mom cared for older relatives. Skin fragility was a big deal. It was really eye-opening to me to see the changes in my elderly relatives’ skin. Nobody ever talks about it. 😢
I started at age 54 because my daughter said it helped her recover from workouts faster...but she said had to take it regularly to enjoy that benefit. Aside from the improved recovery as she suggested I would feel, I have a more regular digestive flow than before. Before I would have occasional constipation like most people, but now it's pretty rare. I have to really fall down with my hydration to have my bowels slow down. What a lot of people don't realize is, those moments of our bowels slowing make us sluggish and less focused too so there's an indirect mental clarity that I think it causes.
As a former nurse I have wondered about how this might be helpful for diabetics with compromised healing. I saw so many terrible slow healing wounds and ulcers etc and think it could have contributions to make to tissue viability.
Respect for adapting your theory. I use collagen peptides everyday and biotin forte a few days per week. My hair is growing in darker, and the cracks on my heels disappeared. When I stop the supplementation, the cracks re-appear. I'm not certain what is causing improvement - probably both. Thank you for the video.
I’m 45 I don’t look my age. I don’t have fine lines or crows feet. I don’t dye my hair and have no gray hair. I been taking collagen since 2015. I take Hyaluronic acid, Phytoceramides, amino acids, & polypodium leucotomos. I use tons of sunscreen and my skin care routine includes retinol. Love the skin you’re in💖
You do all that healthy stuff but then rub toxic suncream all over “your biggest organ”…. your porous skin……. Endocrine disrupting “forever chems “ is seriously bad for you bud.
So I used collagen protein as my main protein source for maybe 6-7 years and eventually it seems to have lead to debilitating migraines that increased gradually over a few years until I was getting migraines multiple times per week. As a complete and desperate fluke, I did an elimination diet and my migraines resolved almost immediately. As I was adding foods back in, it was extremely clear that the collagen was causing the migraines. Since then I’ve eliminated it completely and even avoid gelatin (including in medication capsule). Now, I think I may have some more oddities in my system than the average person (I have autism and we tend to have a number of weird health issues), but I hope there is some research about possible connections with migraines and collagen supplementation. Granted I think I was using way too much, but I messed myself all the way up with it.
I started taking collagen peptides for joint health when I was a half-marathoner. It helped a lot, and as a bonus my skin started looking great! I've continued to put a scoop in my morning coffee ever since, even though I don't run halfs anymore. But my joints and skin still feel great as I approach 50.
I started adding collagen to my morning coffee several years ago primarily for my skin, but I also think it helps my joints. I used to experience stiffness from an old knee injury which has gotten much better.
I'm 39 M and ave been taking collagen for about a year, primarily for preventative measures. But about 6 months in I went to clip my finger nails and found that they were much stronger, and I've noticed that I've had to move haircuts from 4-6 week intervals to 3-4 week intervals because it is just growing faster. Also, 9-12 months in I was looking in the mirror and realized that I didn't see the fine lines around my eyes that I used to see.
im 37 hmm thinkin to start soon. i hv cracked heels. i used to take bovine collagen three years ago. that lasted for 3 months. no improvement on my cracked heels. so i guess the bovine collagen was a fake one. what do i do now? i mean why and what it took so long js to repair my cracked heels. or shall i wait a lil longer?
I've been taking collagen supplements for almost 3 weeks in conjunction with red light therapy. I've noticed my fine lines and wrinkles reducing, skin tone evening out, large pores closing, and my face seems to be filling out around my smile.
I'm 46, been going through perimenopause for 4 years, suffer from fibromyalgia and graves disease and orthostatic hypotension(extremely chronic low blood pressure). I started "Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides" 3 years ago. I personally haven't seen ANY benefits or changes to my thinning hair, brittle nails, great loss of elasticity, painful joints, extremely painful muscles.... I stopped taking the 2.5 scoops daily after being on it for 3 years. After 3 months off I saw no decline. Then I started really making sure I was drinking 60 fluid oz's of water daily and THAT'S when I noticed elasticity improvement. Plumping of my dehydrated skin really. Note: I consistently took the collagen powder daily with 1,000 mg vitamen C. I stay out of the sun as much as possible. I wear sunscreen (the ACTUAL correct amount daily and reapplied every 2 hours. I WISH I was one of the ones that experienced great results! Now I'm saving money and just sticking to my suggested water intake. Just bummed out that I never noticed any changes. Even took before and after photos every 30 days.
I take marine collagen peptides specifically for joint health since I deal with painful joints and it really helps. Any beauty & skin benefits are a huge welcome bonus. It's nice to know that more studies are being done and are showing positive results. 💙
I used marine collagen for a while. Mainly in hopes of improving nail strength. At that time, I remember my mother (RIP) mentioning that my skin looked really good. Wish I'd kept using it. 😑
@@tamarabahava7466 It really does help joints amazing well. Hips & knees were my issues main issues. Walking is my only means of transportation since I don't own a car and the pain could get unreal at times. The collagen really helped to heal those achy joints so i could travel around with no problems. It was a godsend. Honestly will keep using it forever. I hope when you do start taking it, it helps you run well. 🏃♀️
Dr. Dray, Excellent discussion. Both of my older sisters, my niece and daughter-in-law take these supplements. One concern I expressed to them is the unknown effect on their microbiome. The fact that digestive issues have occurred suggests that the supplements are adversely affecting the.bacterial communities. Have any studies examined fecal samples to specifically identify the degree to which these supplements are disrupting the balance of good and bad gut bacteria? This to me is a major issue as studies continue to show the importance of a healthy microbiome and the potential adverse effect on all of the relevant systems. I'm opposed to ingesting these types of things, especially with the risks associated with the downstream multi-level supply chains and all the things that can go on. Thanks again. I will share your video with all the ladies in my family. SoCalFreddy
Hi! My husband and I take hydrolyzed collagen of type I, II and III. We see results in our skin elasticity and hydration. My husband also noticed that he gets less pain in his knees. Thank you for a good analysis by the way!
I ran out of my collagen powder a few months ago and didn’t think much about it. A few weeks ago, I saw a photo of myself and was shocked at how much the quality of my skin had decreased. I can say with certainty that it definitely makes a huge difference for me
I have been using collagen for many years but the last year or so, I've added gelatine to my morning regimen. My skin looks like it's been lifted. I don't know if it's the combination or if the gelatine is actually better because it's less processed. I didn't get these results from collagen alone. Gelatine is also more affordable in the long run.
Been taking Collagen for about year and a half. My nails have definitely improved from being very brittle and back to the way they were in my youth. I had visible changes to my skin, a dry patch that had taken up residence on my forehead disappeared, some red marks that had become enlarged due to more lax skin contracted. As for less wrinkles etc, not sure, though probably. My reason for starting, however was a small study showing anti inflammatory properties, my joint pain, especially in my knees was significantly reduced.
@@farrahesmail5825 Not sure, tbh, I've no issues with my hair, so didn't pay attention. Possibly grew a couple more inches after seeming to have reached max length - maybe.
I’m 27 and I tried to use collagen last year everyday for 4 months. I don’t know what happened, but I’m completely wrecked my immune system. My lips and eyes feel burning hot all the time. My whole body is itchy. I have pain all over my abdomen and it feels like hot water is running down my legs. I get sick very easily now. I felt completely fine and healthy before I started collagen. Recently after a year of going to the doctor and running tests, I got one positive auto immune test, so hopefully with a biopsy I can finally get diagnosed. But beware of collagen. You’re better off just drinking water or eating healthy. If you’re really desperate get plastic surgery, but I’m just warning anyone out there that you may end up being one of the people that gets bad side effects from collagen like me.
That's terrible! I'm so sorry this happened to you! Please go vegan for 6 months to try to undo your symptoms. I did this too for autoimmune inflammation
I read something about it potentially increasing your risk for cancer but its been wiped from the internet since its been heavily promoted and marketed. I take it tho and I’m fine so far but I’m sure some people could have bad effects or it could be chance. Likely and allergy in this case or contaminated collagen/low quality
I have been using it since 14 years ago. It was introduced by my dad’s doctor after my dad broke his leg and arm (he fell off of bicycle. He was 71 years old .) in Taiwan. The doctor told him to use NeoCell Super Collagen Peptides (collagen was hard to find in Taiwan back then, and they were very expensive .) 8 in the morning and 8 before bed time. So I shipped 6 bottles to him. To make the long story short. His doctor removed both cases within a month. Some people assumed he wouldn’t walk again or moving much after he broke his legs, but he’s still hiking, walking, yoga..and he’s 86 years old now. I am 56 years old. I don’t have grey hair yet. 😊
I have taken collagen supplements for the last 4 years. My skin is good...but it is almost impossible to be objective about results since I do many things to protect my skin. I would think this is so for the vast majority of users. If you are motivated to supplement with collagen....then almost certainly you use good skin care - sunscreen etc. Having said all that I will carry on!
Really appreciate the amount of consideration that you put into your commentary of your videos! You are so thorough and knowledgeable, which stands out in this world of short content.
I have been taking vital proteins or boost collagen for almost two years (except for a 3 month break, see below. ) I was skeptical but also interested because I am now over 70 and was noticing first of all more brittle nails than I was used to, hair thinning at my temples and part---enough so that I started changing my hair style (my family has plentiful thick hair as the hair stylist at my niece's wedding noticed--even my mother in her 90s has a lot of hair, so while this was a change I noticed, to it was not a cosmetic crisis). And my skin was, of course, also showing changes. Over the past two years of working from home, I had used the time saved not commuting, to focus on health by improving my diet and my exercise. I lost a considerable amount of weight and still have a little more to lose to be at a healthy weight. I am interested in anything i can do to encourage skin elasticity after weight loss. All that said, I find that collagen supplements in my morning drink left me feeling more full, which was a plus and provided my body with useful building blocks. The first thing I noticed after close to a year was that my nails stopped breaking. I am fairly convinced that resulted from collagen. Skeptic that I am, I took a break from collagen for a few months and, in fact, nails got worse, and then improved several months after restarting collagen. I think that is a causal event. I also think (in addition to tretinoin and spf) it has helped with skin elasticity. This took much longer to see than the nail improvement. It may be beginning to help me with my hair too, but it will take longer for me to be convinced on that. I have slowly become a believer, but think it is important to use good brands. Costco has the best price on Vital Proteins collagen than I have found elsewhere, although at be least to sample it, iherb.com has smaller sizes of Vital Proteins if you want to sample it for a month before coming to a Costco sized tub. Thank you for the update!
@@taniad2873 yes. It definitely helps my joints. Naturemade SAMe (good price at Costco in US, helps even more, but collagen plus SAMe has really been great
I just started Vital Proteins 2 weeks ago after watching a review on UA-cam. He used for 6 months and had improved joint health as a runner. So I started right away. I don’t run but have knee and back pain. If I get skin/hair/nail results that’ll be an added bonus. I need the joint health benefits ❤
I started taking Vital Protein Collagen to help fade my acne scars and within 4 weeks it made me break out like crazy! I’m upset because my skin was finally starting to clear and now I have to deal with scars that will take over a year to heal 😢
as a health care professional I'm seeing promising results from women (age +60) supplementing with quality hydrolyzed collagen, associated with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid
Thanks for revisiting this. I do find improvement in my hair and skin although not my nails. More research is needed but so long as research reveals no adverse effect with long-term use I'll keep using it.
Thank you so much for your summary There is so much pseudo science around collagens, and I appreciate your critique of not only the outcomes but of the studies themselves. I recently started taking shell-fish, hydrolyzed collagen in hopes of helping with joint pain. I know the evidence is not there yet but like you said, it is relatively low risk. The benefit I found right away was my weak nails growing faster and stronger. I’m only a month in to see any other results. Thank you again for providingI this info. I recently discovered your channel and appreciate your content.
I have seen a huge improvement in hair loss. I am 52 and have been taking collagen for about 6 months now. It's bovine, 5000 mg. I am switching to marine, however, because I no longer consume beef or pork. Love your videos!
For me personally, collagen powder works wonders for me. It massively helps my skin (It looks much younger than it actually is) and also my joints. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it helps soooo much. Way fewer flare ups and more manageable when I do have them. I put a scoop and a half in my morning coffee and use Vital Proteins collagen peptides.
@@His_Masterpiece yay! It is one of those products where you don’t need to read other good reviews, because your own experience with it is the most reliable review ever.
Started VP two months ago. Two scoops a day. I use the unflavored in diluted fruit punch and the chocolate mixed with water or coffee. My 64 yr old skin is looking much better, especially better hydrated and glowing. Dr Dray's comments on this element have got me wondering if the extra glass of water each day is the main contributer? I didn't have many fine lines to begin with but hope to soon see improved firmness. My achy knees feel so much better. The soreness from my broken ankle in June is also finally gone. The only thing that I do not like is the laxative side effect. Ugh. Hate that part.
I’ve been taking the vital proteins almost daily for at least two years. I haven’t noticed much in my skin, but the other day, I noticed that my teeth were less “transparent.” I was given multiple rounds of antibiotics as a child and it discolored my teeth. I know that sounds crazy, but my teeth look more solid and I’m kind of thinking it might be the collagen supplement.
I've taken collagen supplements on and off for a couple years and definitely can tell the difference. The powder form has the most noticeable effect, though the pills are better than nothing. I would do it more regularly if only the pills worked as well. I don't really like the powder form. But the effects keep me coming back. I'm mid 50s and it shows a difference in skin suppleness and nails not breaking as easily.
Ive been using Collagen on and off. The only reason why I stopped taking it was dermatologist always debunk and says that collagen doesnt have any benefits at all. But seriously, every time I use collagen. I feel that my skin is healthier like it has a glow in it. As per nails and hair. I totally agree! Both grows fast but my hair is less frizzy and looks shiny as well!
Look at you all lovely in green! Such a complimentary color on you Dr Dray! And PERFECT timing on this topic! I’ve only recently started taking the Vital Proteins collagen supplement, unsure if it’s beneficial or not. So thank you! Always count on you for super informative videos! 💚
I just started collagen supplement last year after I was diagnosed with arthritis in my left knee the year before that. I have to say since taking collagen my knee has been much better. Still get some pain but not as strong or as often. Just so you know, I am a total skeptic. I try everything with the mind set of “yeah sure” so for me to see a difference is saying something.
I use vital collagen peptides every morning because I was diagnosed with chronic severe pain. (Arthritis/ lupus/sciatica/inflammation disease/lower back pain, 4 bulging discs) Now I can say after taking my 40 grams of collagen every morning I am almost pain free. My joints feel better and I got off of painkillers!!!!! I am almost 50 and I will not ever go without my collagen peptides. And as of the benefits for the hair skin and nails, well that's a plus. I do see a difference when it comes to the beauty benefits but I didn't start using collagen for that purpose but I'll take it!!! Oh and by the way, did I mention that my skin looks beautiful and I do not look my age... I get compliments all the time, that I look much younger. Lol 😊
Due to a terrible immune system and genetics, I’ve been taking collagen every day for a couple of years now. When I’ve stopped for whatever reason, I can tell really quickly because my hair gets super greasy, I bruise easily and my joints hurt. Even if I was told it’s all in my mind, I’d still take the stuff because it makes me feel better. 🤷♀️
It is really terrible when people, especially doctors, say " it's all in your mind". Go with your guts and find another doctor that will listen to your symptoms and is interested in finding ways to reduce whatever symptoms you are presenting with. Try to do your research as well; the internet has a wealth of information.
Happy to hear that for you!! Which one do you take? I have a connective tissue disorder and am hoping to take a really effective one (I take Sparkle’s Verisol collagen - don’t love it).
No wonder I’ve stopped bruising easily!!! I’ve been taking it for about 5 years. I initially bought it to prevent wrinkles but I noticed that it eliminated all the back pain I was having. The elimination of pain is why I take it religiously!
@@kathleenp3135 I use the Neocell Super Collagen Peptides (Collagen Type 1&3) unflavored powder. The suggested serving is 2 scoops a day. Since I have 2 cups of coffee a day, I put one scoop in each cup. Give it about 2-4 weeks to start working on pain.
I take verisol collagen (sparkle wellness brand). I have also taken vital proteins regular collagen. The verisol has some good studies behind it too. I’m post menopause. I definitely notice a difference in my skin.
I've noticed a huge difference in knee pain/ joint pain taking collagen powder! I use Sports Research brand. Im only 45, but i have a knee that bothers me. Its almost completely gone now that i take collagen. I stopped taking collagen for about 2 months & knee pain came back. I immediately started taking collagen again and it went away again!
As a runner, I can tell a difference in my joints (specific knees) when I have been consistently taking my collagen. Less pain and clicking. As far as skin benefits I have not necessarily noticed a difference, but I am in my 20’s.
I was VERY reluctant to take collagen orally. I started (around 3 months ago) to see if my skin would heal better after TCA chemical peels and, in general, as anti-wrinkle support. I'm 46, so I need extra collagen to compensate for not producing as much as I did when younger. So far I've noticed: 1) Joint improvement. I had a constant ticking sound on my knee when bending, and after a few weeks, it's completely gone, and my knee also feels more flexible. 2) The healing process after my chemical peels is getting faster (1/2 days faster, I would say, considering that I do them regularly and know my skin healing times quite well). 3) As for the overall aging process of the skin, I can't tell for a few reasons: I take many supplements already (Ubiquinol and others) and I have also used tretinoin since when I was in my 20s and apply sunscreen constantly so my skin, despite my age doesn't have visible wrinkles yet. When I smile or move my face, I have dynamic wrinkles, but they still don't leave any sign. I think I will keep taking it for the benefits I got in these areas, hoping for the best also for my skin. Oh almost forgot, I didn't notice anything particular about my hair growth because even though I have androgenetic alopecia, my hair grows at a super fast rate anyways, so I can't truly tell.
I started taking collagen peptides in my coffee years ago, mostly for joint pain. I have noticed improvements in my joint health and my overall skin health in regards to firmness and elasticity. It also seems to improve my scalp and hair health. I have not noticed benefits in my nail growth or overall nail health. I will continue to use it as it has really changed the way I feel with my joints, but I think the beauty improvements may be negligible in terms of results I could get using topical skincare or haircare.
I'd love to know more about vegan collagen - most of the commercial options are collagen "boosters" rather than true vegan collagen. Thanks for always keeping us up to date!
@@RubyJane6904 it doesn't, my comment already demonstrated that I know they are boosters not actual collagen. However I've since found a 2019 study which demonstrates that the plant based boosters are actually more effective than straight animal collagen.
So I did take this while pregnant because I didn't realize it wasn't approved for pregnancy. I thought it would be good for my skin and growing baby, and at worst it wouldn't do anything. Overall I'm happy I did. Also tried to make broth regularly and avoid sugar
Appreciate you sharing this! I considered using during pregnancy given my connective tissue disorder. Will follow up with my doc. Which one did you use?
@@Luvanmusiq I used great lakes grass fed version because it was Dr Rhonda Patrick's recommendation. She's a nutrition scientist, but I think she recommends a different brand now
I’ve been putting bovine collagen powder in my smoothie daily hoping to see a difference in hair, skin & nails. The first & most impressive change I noticed was in my joints & muscles. My very bad knees that were overdue for steroid injections I had gotten used to….I couldn’t make it up a few steps without wanting to cry. Over a year on collagen, no knee injections and I can run up the whole flight of stairs with zero pain in my knees. Also, if I overdo it exercising and pull a muscle, it feels recovered the next day whereas it used to take on average 3-4 days. Then I noticed more hydration in my skin. My roommate has claimed my skin has been glowing a lot more since collagen. Now, a year later, after a decade of the hair around the crown of my head being thinned out through hormone injections…the thickness of the hair around the crown of my head is all back to its thickest. I won’t go without my collagen now. I got a toenail fungus I’ve been trying to cure naturally from wearing warm socks 24/7, so I don’t even wanna go there. Lol. Omg.
Hi Dr. Dray, I took Vital Proteins marine collagen for about 8 months (2 scoops with my morning coffee). I have Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and have brittle nails and thin hair. After a few months my nails showed improvement and it appeared that my hair was falling out less. The best part was that my joints felt better as well. I stopped taking the collagen to see what would happen and after about 1 month, I noticed that my nails started to break again and my hair started to shed A-LOT! Three months later, my joints are becoming stiff again and my hair is thinner than ever. So, at least in my case, supplementing with hydrolyzed collagen seemed to work, but I will be putting it to the test again to be sure.
Just to say I watched a Dr talking about collagen powder should not be putting in hot drinks as it will stop it working he is a plastic surgeon. He said Cold drinks is best I take it in water. Also Dr Eric Berg is an amazing Dr to watch on utube.
I also have Hashimoto's. I echo the same results as you. We have been using Bovine Vital Proteins with excellent results. I care less and less about studies ... the pharm industry is not interested in promoting supplements of any kind.
I have been taking Vital Proteins since Dec.1, 2022. One scoop in my coffee each day. Result is nothing new noted. Nails are in fact worse, 4 just broke this past week down to the quick. Skin, meh, how can you tell at 74 years old? If anything maybe a tad bit tighter, but I have upped my skincare routine for awhile now, it is probably that. My joints still hurt. If anything, my hair has behaved, no shedding and thicker than usual, but I have upped my Minoxidil to a stronger dose so that might be it. Hubby takes 2 scoops of the collagen, he reports no difference. We were taking it for possible joint improvement, but have yet to experience it.
Thank you for a very informative episode. I've been taking 20g of Vital Proteins a day from bovines for about 8 months. It includes 80mg of Hyaluronic Acid and 90mg Vitamin C. I saw a line on my nails where there was a distinct difference between old and new growth. The old growth was slightly darker red than the new growth. Whether this is related to the collagen or just a coincidence, I don't know. But the new growth does not have any dark lines or spots. I have not really seen any reduction to skin repairs in my legs. I have some scratches on my knees that resulted by a fall while running. I blame my dog, he zigged when he should've zagged. They have turned almost purple and it's been at least 8 months or longer since I fell. I can't speak much to joint health. I have a torn or nonexistent Meniscus. But I can say that my joints don't ache as much but this could be exercise or some other factor. FYI, I'm 61...
I really think we are all individual and the results take very different times to “heal”. I was silly when started and expected signs of improvements to show by a months time. Silly me. So I’m going to give it a 1 yr trial. We are an impatient people.
I’m almost 50. I’m taking collagen about two years. I started using it to improve my joints flexibility and it’s been working great. Also my skin looks more moisturized than my friend’s in the same age.
I love Dr. Dray's videos. So informative. She gives out so much information in each video that I found it confusing...so I created a spreadsheet! I list all the products, the ingredients in each product, with a column for each major ingredient that is proven to help skin, and I check off each product for each column if that product has that ingredient. Phew! I cross reference to Dr. Dray's videos, too! She's been so helpful to me as I make my way through the 60's, when some awful things starting happening to my skin. Tiny sun spots, dark undereye circles suddenly appeared, jowls...yikes! NOW? I get compliments on my skin fairly often! Really. I'm like, "ME?" People don't even get close to guessing my age (but they're not looking closely). The major thing is...I started wearing a mineral-based strong sunblock on my face every single day. Even if it's cloudly. Even if I'm staying indoors. I'm still learning and trying out different kinds of products. Like Vitamin C serums....didn't work for me. Yes, I tried top quality for over a year...no difference that I can tell. Out with the Vitamin C! I use straight pure lemon juice now, instead, and rinse it off. Does it help? Well, it helps as much as the expensive Vit C serum did, but costs almost nothing. Biggest help besides sunblock? Retinaldehyde! I started taking Vital Proteins collagen, so I'm interested in knowing if I can expect it to help.
Being using Vital Proteins Hydrolyzed Collagen just over a year, and a big difference in my nails - stronger and have to cut more frequently, hair - my small balding patch at the front where my part is has covered over, but most noticeably, my calf muscle cramps through stretching my legs at night, and then having to jump out of bed are practically non-existent, which is a great relief. As for my skin is looking much better, but not sure if it's the collagen, as I also use skincare products. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in.
Another derm who's updated her review on collagen supplements is The Budget Dermatologist. She did two videos last summer, one on how her opinion had changed and the other on supplements she recommended.
I watched hers too! I have used Sparkle for a few months because of her (the HA + Vitamin C peaked my interest). I honestly haven’t seen positive effects. I used the VP one for approximately 2 years (w/o HA + Vit C) and I think I need to go back to it.
Micro needling also appears to improve skin firmness and collagen, and hair growth. I've been using micro needling plus collagen supplements to improve thin parts of my beard. It does appear to work because areas where my beard growth was thin have been filling in as I've used needling and collagen. Prior to this I was using rogaine. The rogaine helped a LITTLE but also dried my skin pretty harshly where applied. Needling itself has worked better and without the drying.
I started taking collagen right before the pandemic and have continued since. I have had improved hair growth, nails are stronger and skin doesn’t seem to be as fragile. As for my wrinkles, I’m so critical of all my wrinkles but there does seem to be a slowing of the wrinkles but definitely not stopping. I am 72 and working or not I have been happy with results. I take the Vital Protein supplement. Thanks for your information.
I started taking Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides with Hyaluronic Acid_Vitamin C since Nov 2022. I have very thin hair. I noticed in January it seemed thicker when I was washing it in the shower. I went to my hair stylist in Mar and she said there is definiately a difference, thicker. I love it!
Thank you for the update! The thing l continue to find bothersome about nutritional studies is the lack of quality control. 1) lt's still not completely transparent which MDs are funded by the industry. This is especially a problem in the US where while nutrition departments can be funded by an industry. 2) The "is it the supplement or is it just more hydration" question is easily addressed by a placebo control. That should just be automatically in place and in clinical trials, which are highly regulated, you won't get a study approved if it doesn't have these controls in place and if the samples size is too small, but nutrition studies just aren't regulated like this. 3) There are methods, including less invasive methods than biopsy, to checking collagen integration (for example isotope labelling), but usually the studies aren't funded enough to do them. I would love for there to be at least some sort of quality control guidelines and certification for nutritional studies. On another note, the collagen demand is fuelling Amazon deforestation. As in slash and burn of forest is done to make way for highly unethical farms to produce cheap collagen. So if you do use it and find it helps you, I hope you check out where the collagen is coming from.
I've been putting a hydrolyzed collagen powder in my coffee for about 2 - 3 years now. I'm not the most observant so I notice no appreciable benefit to my hair, skin or nails. At 59, I still have wrinkles and my hair density is still getting finer (Been using the Irestore for about same amount of time). I do, however, notice what I feel. After 15 years of playing tennis almost daily in my 20's and 30's, got a case of tennis elbow in my 50's. Elbow was so bad it hurt to manipulate a pen. The only thing I did different: start putting collagen powder in my coffee every morning. I don't recall how long it took to work but it did work. Husband, 3 years older, complaining about his knees going up and down the stairs in our home. Heard him grunting with every step. Told him, put my collagen powder in your coffee. Don't recall how long it took (because it does takes a little while. It isn't an overnight miracle), but he hasn't grunted going up and down the stairs in our home since shortly after he started daily collagen powder in his coffee. It certainly worked on our joints.
How beautiful! I have really bad knees too and what helps is collagen and MSM supplements, I even think the MSM worked better than collagen. + Turmeric capsules !

After using collagen for a few months my nails and hair started to grow like crazy. I have been using it for two years and my hair and skin have improved a ton with no other changes to my diet and supplementation.
@@andreaazurin5239 I use Orgain mainly because I get decent deals here and there. Sometimes Sports Research brand, but I’ll buy whatever is on sale and the cheaper brands work just as well as Vital Proteins. Great Lakes is good too.
Watch out with this. I got terrible acne from it, big zits, but I didn’t know this was what caused it. I thought I was doing something good for my skin. After I stopped using this, my acne cleared up.
The 20g (1-2 scoops) per serving of Collagen seems a little ridiculous to me...I've started out taking 1/2 scoop (5G). People getting upset stomachs might want to start with a lower dose. I always do about 1/2 the recommenced serving when trying a new supplement to see how my body reacts.
I've noticed my nails grow much faster while supplementing with collagen peptides - and they're thicker and stronger. I have several friends who independently started taking the supplements and stated the same - thicker hair, stronger nails. Hard to say whether it's helping because it's "collagen peptides" or if it's just making up for a lack of protein in general in a lot of diets. Most proteins can by synthesized from a few essential amino acids, but there may be something to getting the right amino acid profile as the body takes time, energy, enzymes, and other cellular machinery to make what it needs in the right portions. Hydroxyproline makes up 13.5% of collagen and isn't found in most diets, but is made from proline. Glycine, Proline, Alanine, Hydroxyproline, and Glutamic acid make up the majority of the amino acids in collagen, and there may be something to having them in the right amounts from the start to build more collagen. But, also, Glycine (especially in combination with N-acetylcysteine as "GLYNAC") in randomized trial studies for gerontology show massive improvements in many areas related to aging: academic.oup.com/biomedgerontology/article/78/1/75/6668639?login=false "the study shows that older humans taking GlyNAC for 16-weeks improved many characteristic defects of aging. This includes oxidative stress, glutathione deficiency and multiple aging hallmarks affecting mitochondrial dysfunction, mitophagy, inflammation, insulin resistance, endothelial dysfunction, genomic damage, stem cell fatigue and cellular senescence. These were associated with improvements in muscle strength, gait speed, exercise capacity, waist circumference and blood pressure." I can't say for sure whether getting the right amino acids in the right proportions helps - or if it's just generally making up for a deficiency in one or more proteins which has a synergistic effect of boosting a lot of health improvements, but I definitely recommend protein supplements - especially collagen and whey.
I’m 33 and have no wrinkles yet. But I have been taking collegen and have noticed my knees stopped hurting( I sit on the floor a lot with my knees crossed) and my hair is healthier and I have been losing less.
I have been taking hydrolized collagen peptides (10 grams/day) for over two years now. I started not so much for fine lines and wrinkles but to avoid skin thinning that I saw in my mother and my sister. I am 74 years old and I have noticed better skin texture and strengthening of my skin all over my body. If that is all I get from taking collagen, I am willing to continue. The tearing of my mother's and my sister's skin (btw, sis is 10 years younger) was/is alarming. I have suggested collagen for this reason to my sister. My mom died at 90 almost two years ago. I take mine in my morning coffee.
I've been taking collagen peptides for about 2 years, but I noticed a huge difference when I switched to a hydrolyzed collagen that has Hyaluronic Acid & Biotin. My hair and nails have never felt stronger and beautiful.
Hello Dr. Dray, thank you for covering this topic. I was very skeptical with taking collagen supplements for so long, as I very much assumed, any peptides you took would basically break into the amino acids and would be used in the body as any other amino acids, based on priority. I am a vet plus a clinical research professional, so I need to be skeptical. However, after reading some reliable sources, I decided to take the leap. I am taking Vital Proteins Bovine Collagen 10 grams with my coffee every morning and Solgar hyaluronic acid collagen complex tablet every day. I cannot speak to my nail or hair for sure, but I have had improvements in some joint pains that I had. One was due to mouse-use on my right index finger, the other was on my right hip joint due to my seating arrangement for home office work, one other was for a healing toe joint which I had hurt in July 2021. I felt a great improvement in all three of these joint issues. For skin, hair or nails, İ cannot comment, because I am also using certain skincare products and have always been a huge water drinker. Plus, to see improvement in hair and nails, we need to wait until the regrowth replaces most of what we have, so it does take a while to test out the strength. Growth speed is another story, I have not experienced anything speeding up, at least in the 4 months that I have been taking the supplements. But then again, the stuff could be going to higher-priority sites instead of hair and nails, so no complaints there. And yes, I do know there are different kinds of collagen for different kinds of functions, which is why I am taking 1-2-3 from different brands.

Dr. Berg has a video on an affordable combination for hair growth. One of the recommendations was unflavored gelatin. Which is what I use although it’s become almost as expensive as the supplement.

I was taking 1000mg of marine hydrolysed protein in a ready made drink formula. After about 3 months I noticed that the dry skin on my arms and legs had gone and my facial skin had more bounce and more of a glow. More interestingly though, my hairdresser, who I have been seeing every 3 months for the past 10 years, commented that I had a lot of new hair growth. When I asked if she was sure that it was growth and not breakage, she said it was definitely new growth. I also noticed an improvement in joint pain and general well being. Bit it did take 3 months of daily use and it was expensive to the point where I changed to a cheaper supplement. I didn’t feel that this was as effective even as a maintenance product. I also find that the solid collagen supplements in the capsules give me very heartburn. This is true of all capsules though so clearly it is whatever the capsule is made from rather than what is in the capsule. I’d go back on the collagen drink if I could justify the expense. I am currently trying out another collagen ‘drink’ which is a thick liquid that you can either take on its own like a shot (drink not injection) or can be mixed with water or smoothies etc. I just drink it as it is and it is not at all unpleasant. Time will tell if it is as good.
I can highly recommend collagen for sleep improvement! Even I wouldn't call myself bad sleeper, now I have the best sleep in my life! It has scientific background. Loooove that side effect!
I take collagen every day for my hip pain. If I skip it for a few days I can barely walk my hip hurts so bad. I switched brands recently and found even greater relief. I also notice my skin is more glowy than it was before but I take it for the benefits to my hip, knee and back. I couldn’t live without it.
I’m 70 and started taking Vital Proteins collagen for my hair about six months ago. My hair does feel thicker but I was pleasantly surprised that my knee pain disappeared. I was ready for knee surgery because I was ALWAYS is pain and had even tried the shots in my knee, without any relief. Three months of VP and pain is gone by although my knee is still stiff.
@@Nate-ht4seYES - And I'd possibly even split that dose in to morning and evening, to be sure your body got the chance to better absorb it all.

A few years ago I took the very supplement pictured in your thumbnail and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. My face broke out like CRAZY.

Love the skin you’re in💖
Please tell me what brands you use! I'm about to be 29 & I've been freaking out about aging & wrinkles! 😭💔😭
You do all that healthy stuff but then rub toxic suncream all over “your biggest organ”…. your porous skin……. Endocrine disrupting “forever chems “ is seriously bad for you bud.
Thats awesome! I never looked my age until menopause hit it literally ages you overnight. However im takkng collagen amd its helping a lot!
Do you take itbevery day no stopping it taking a break from it is it safe enough I just started. 2 days a go.
Thank you! You are one of the very few UA-camrs I actually trust when it comes to skincare because you objectively look at the research.
I started adding collagen to my morning coffee several years ago primarily for my skin, but I also think it helps my joints. I used to experience stiffness from an old knee injury which has gotten much better.
Is there a certain brand you use
I read if you put it in hot water it erodes the product making it useless.
What brand are you using? Please let us know.
I've been taking collagen supplements for almost 3 weeks in conjunction with red light therapy. I've noticed my fine lines and wrinkles reducing, skin tone evening out, large pores closing, and my face seems to be filling out around my smile.
Would you consider doing an updated video on Elf skincare options? A dedicated video to the whole brand would be so helpful thanks! ❤
👍🏼👍🏼
Same. I noticed that cow protein didn't work as well on my joints. Don't know why. Wish it did bc it's cheaper.
I used marine collagen for a while. Mainly in hopes of improving nail strength. At that time, I remember my mother (RIP) mentioning that my skin looked really good. Wish I'd kept using it. 😑
I too am interested in collagen for joints (esp hips) for running. I have not started taking them yet.
I can say with certainty that it definitely makes a huge difference for me
Good for the joints questions about the skin
Would like to think it works for skin good for joints
It does work. I notice a difference on my skin if I stop taking it for just a week.
wow , which collagen u used ?
@@LunaPaloma77does collagen tighten skin?
After how many days we can start seeing results?
Please reply
I have been using collagen for many years but the last year or so, I've added gelatine to my morning regimen. My skin looks like it's been lifted. I don't know if it's the combination or if the gelatine is actually better because it's less processed. I didn't get these results from collagen alone. Gelatine is also more affordable in the long run.
Hi ! How you add the gelatin? Thank you so much.
Thank you will try
Every collagen supplement I’ve tried wreaks havoc on my stomach EVERY SINGLE TIME!
I wish someone would make a better capsular form of it vs a powder.
Bone broth?
Have you tried organic, grass fed collagen?
“promising” and “inconclusive” are very related notions. thanks for your takes on the new info. ❤
What Brand do you use? Thank you
How about hair?
@@farrahesmail5825 Not sure, tbh, I've no issues with my hair, so didn't pay attention. Possibly grew a couple more inches after seeming to have reached max length - maybe.

@@munecahermosaddios1286 Vital Proteins Marine Collagen. You need a good quality Vit-C along with it
I’m 27 and I tried to use collagen last year everyday for 4 months.
Thanks for the warning, and I hope you get proper treatment. 😢❤ What collagen were you taking?
That's terrible! I'm so sorry this happened to you! Please go vegan for 6 months to try to undo your symptoms. I did this too for autoimmune inflammation
Are you vaccinated and boosted?
Sounds like you're allergic to the type of collagen you're taking as mentioned in the video.
* "casts", not "cases"
Thats coincidental Neocell only came on the market exactly 14 years ago...

Huge difference in my knee pain after using for 1 year!
I've been taking it for years, i work out with weights, and cardio,i am 58,and i look like I'm in my upper 30s.I eat healthy too😊
I started taking Vital Protein Collagen to help fade my acne scars and within 4 weeks it made me break out like crazy!
I recently discovered your channel and appreciate your content.
did your joint pain improve?
I have seen a huge improvement in hair loss. I am 52 and have been taking collagen for about 6 months now. It's bovine, 5000 mg. I am switching to marine, however, because I no longer consume beef or pork. Love your videos!
Beef isn’t your enemy sugar is. Watch Dr Ken Berry
Thanks for sharing dosage!!
The collagen is from the skin of bovine not the muscle (beef).
Beef is more bioavailable than marine
@@Ashclayton1994Chemically the same molecule. I'm sure beef makes your feelings happier though. 😊
Same here. 50y/o. Dx w/RA in the 90’s. It’s working wonders for me! I’m super thankful!

Peptides in pill or what u mean? That’s the brand?
I’ve been taking the vital proteins almost daily for at least two years. I haven’t noticed much in my skin, but the other day, I noticed that my teeth were less “transparent.” I was given multiple rounds of antibiotics as a child and it discolored my teeth. I know that sounds crazy, but my teeth look more solid and I’m kind of thinking it might be the collagen supplement.
I used to have a very visible vertical line on my front lower tooth and now it has gone ...
I use ampollas, so it s one dose liquid form. I don't like to mess with the dust too
Ive been using Collagen on and off.
Same here. But, I know different.
@sandrawitkowski7116 Which brand do you use and how much do you take daily? Thanks.
Lol 😊
Ok
@AdelVasco what brand do you use?

On advice from a dietitian, I increased my protein intake and first my nails improved and gradually my hair loss has improved. 🤷♀️
A proper protein intake calculated for our weight and lifestyle is CRUCIAL to our well-being! Glad you said that!
@Julie Moses, what kind of collagen do you use?
I take verisol collagen (sparkle wellness brand). I have also taken vital proteins regular collagen. The verisol has some good studies behind it too. I’m post menopause. I definitely notice a difference in my skin.
I agree, I only take verisol collagen. I’ve noticed a difference as well.
Resveratrol is also good for the skin :)
3) As for the overall aging process of the skin, I can't tell for a few reasons:
I take many supplements already (Ubiquinol and others) and I have also used tretinoin since when I was in my 20s and apply sunscreen constantly so my skin, despite my age doesn't have visible wrinkles yet.
I have aga how do u keep urs under control if u dont mind me asking? I use dht blocking shampoo and rosemary which helps
How many grams of collagen are you or did you take? Also was it marine or bovine?

Collagen is only produced by animals and not by plants. So I’m not sure it’s even possible to make a vegan version
They don't work
There are NO vegan collagen . It all comes from an animal as plants don’t have collagen. Hope this helps.
@@RubyJane6904 it doesn't, my comment already demonstrated that I know they are boosters not actual collagen. However I've since found a 2019 study which demonstrates that the plant based boosters are actually more effective than straight animal collagen.
Works over taking it long term
So I did take this while pregnant because I didn't realize it wasn't approved for pregnancy. I thought it would be good for my skin and growing baby, and at worst it wouldn't do anything. Overall I'm happy I did. Also tried to make broth regularly and avoid sugar

No need to do science experiments on yourself lol. Your body needs collagen, it’s the literal glue that holds us together.
The supplement industry is a billion dollar machine with zero regulation
Hot temperatures actually burn away collagen. It needs to be in room temperature or cold water.
Just thought you should know
Thank you for a very informative episode.
I had a serious puncture wound on my leg and the dermatologist told me that the skin on the lower leg was the slowest skin on the body to heal.
❤❤❤💯
Would you maybe be open to sharing your spreadsheet notes?
Greetings d b hope u r well n Happy Thursday😀👍💜….
Was she for it or not?
@@relikvia4 She's for it (for now).
The Budget Dermatologist is super!
Resveratrol is good for the skin :)
Remember that the irestore will cause hair shedding initially so maybe that's why you haven't noticed any differences in your hair
How beautiful! I have really bad knees too and what helps is collagen and MSM supplements, I even think the MSM worked better than collagen. + Turmeric capsules !
@@sable7114 Hi! I started having hair loss with perimenopause and it’s getting worse and worse for two years. Do you really recommend the I-restore? Also do you pair it with a hair serum?? I don’t know if it’s worth the $. Also ppl have mentioned Musely hair loss products? Do u happen to know anything about those? Thank u SO MUCH for ur time! 🥰💜
Does anyone have any further advice on perimenopausal hair loss?? It’s devastating! 🙏🏼💜
After using collagen for a few months my nails and hair started to grow like crazy. I have been using it for two years and my hair and skin have improved a ton with no other changes to my diet and supplementation.
What brand did you use
@@andreaazurin5239 I use Orgain mainly because I get decent deals here and there. Sometimes Sports Research brand, but I’ll buy whatever is on sale and the cheaper brands work just as well as Vital Proteins. Great Lakes is good too.
Is it a powder? If yes what do you mix it with, please?
Watch out with this. I got terrible acne from it, big zits, but I didn’t know this was what caused it. I thought I was doing something good for my skin. After I stopped using this, my acne cleared up.
The 20g (1-2 scoops) per serving of Collagen seems a little ridiculous to me...I've started out taking 1/2 scoop (5G). People getting upset stomachs might want to start with a lower dose. I always do about 1/2 the recommenced serving when trying a new supplement to see how my body reacts.
I do the same. With everything lol. It’s actually quite annoying at times. Been doing it with both prebiotics and multivitamins
But, also, Glycine (especially in combination with N-acetylcysteine as "GLYNAC") in randomized trial studies for gerontology show massive improvements in many areas related to aging:
academic.oup.com/biomedgerontology/article/78/1/75/6668639?login=false
"the study shows that older humans taking GlyNAC for 16-weeks improved many characteristic defects of aging. This includes oxidative stress, glutathione deficiency and multiple aging hallmarks affecting mitochondrial dysfunction, mitophagy, inflammation, insulin resistance, endothelial dysfunction, genomic damage, stem cell fatigue and cellular senescence. These were associated with improvements in muscle strength, gait speed, exercise capacity, waist circumference and blood pressure."
I can't say for sure whether getting the right amino acids in the right proportions helps - or if it's just generally making up for a deficiency in one or more proteins which has a synergistic effect of boosting a lot of health improvements, but I definitely recommend protein supplements - especially collagen and whey.
I’m 33 and have no wrinkles yet. But I have been taking collegen and have noticed my knees stopped hurting( I sit on the floor a lot with my knees crossed) and my hair is healthier and I have been losing less.
You can also take resveratrol to avoid wrinkles, and use vaseline every day :)
What brand are you using?
Which one?
@@Dadsmimi sorry. I thought I posted the link. The name is SASCHA FITNESS HYDROLYZED MULTI COLLAGEN

Hey vet! 😊 Could you name some of the brands you buy the collagen supliments from (and also name it's function). Thanks in advance! 🤗
@@cristinabianca6958 I don't know if you received my message (one minute ago) because some channels eliminate links. So, I'm resending my message, but this time just with the reference, not the full link. I don't understand why some people do not reply to help others. I just started with a foot pain. I'm researching to improve it without medicine. There are different types of collagen (from to 5). type II (2) from chicken is more appropriate for elastic cartilage, which provides joint support. Look for the study at google. I key the question: "Types of collagen", I selected the one from clevelandclinic. 1st. learned about the types viewing comments at Amazon under chicken collagen.
I am 45 and have been consuming Bovine collagen from past one year. When I had turned 43 my facial skin sagged so much in an year itself. I noticed a lot of positive changes in my skin after 6 months of taking collagen. My nails got stronger but I did not notice any impact in my hair growth or shedding.
Dr. Berg has a video on an affordable combination for hair growth. One of the recommendations was unflavored gelatin. Which is what I use although it’s become almost as expensive as the supplement.
@@brigitte9999 I will check it out, thanks. I am losing chunks of hair due to peri menopause
Dr. Eric Berg is extremely knowledgeable. In his UA-cam videos, he presents things in simple terms and uses a writing board, graphs, pictures, etc., when explaining his various topics.
@@ruchisistu8918 I was surgically induced into menopause in 2021. While HRT has been helpful with many things it has been taking care of my thyroid (which is impacted by the hormonal changes of peri menopause and menopause) that has helped most with my hair. My thyroid was just barely in range but I started gaining weight, feeling tired and losing lots of hair. My doctor put me on a thyroid med and after bumping the dose I noticed much less hair shedding and fallout. Menopause Barbie (Barbara Taylor) has so much great info about menopause. Eric Berg has many videos as well as someone else commented. I hope you find something to help you.
Hair are last in line of importance, they are just for beauty.
I take hydrolyzed Collagen powder. Don't know if it does anything for my skin nails or hair But, it has taken All the pain away from my right shoulder. Before i started Collagen powder my right arm was almost useless because of the Extreme pain in my shoulder. Now i have the full range of motion in my arm w/o pain.!
Hi, I have whalers danlos syndrome which is a connective tissue disorder. I’ve been taking supplements for 4+years and I have definitely seen a big difference since taking them
Ooh thank you!! I've been wondering how this would work for someone with a connective tissue disorder
Good thing is I always do what I think is best for me, I don't care what studies and experts say unless is a risky topic. I've been taking it for a long long time. No issues so far.
Collagen really works. Best Ive found is Renewed Health’s collagen. It also has added vitamin c, zinc, biotin, and silica. Stuff is insane!
I can highly recommend collagen for sleep improvement! Even I wouldn't call myself bad sleeper, now I have the best sleep in my life! It has scientific background. Loooove that side effect!
Wow! She didn’t share anything about sleep!
I take collagen every day for my hip pain. If I skip it for a few days I can barely walk my hip hurts so bad. I switched brands recently and found even greater relief. I also notice my skin is more glowy than it was before but I take it for the benefits to my hip, knee and back. I couldn’t live without it.
May I ask what brand/ type of collagen you are taking? Thank you
@DaughterofDiogenes Which brand of collagen do you take? Thanks
VP is a miracle supplement. I’ve read that vitamin C is needed to aid in collagen absorption so I started taking vitamin C as well. Is vitamin C necessary?
I’ve watched your channel for awhile, but just subscribed today. Thank you for all your informative videos. ❤
Vital Proteins has 90mg (100% daily value) of Vitamin C so you should not need an additional supplements
What about colostrum? It’s becoming more popular on the market and the brand ARMRA even claims it’s better than taking collagen.
I started using collagen supplements after I was diagnosed with Ulcerarive Colitus. The meds I was on caused me to lose a large amount of hair. It seemed to help my hair grow back faster.
