I’m approaching 77. I’ve been taking collagen peptide supplements for several years. I have not experienced any adverse side effects. I think that it is helpful. I have been training with weights for about 65 years, and played lacrosse, tennis, and racquetball when I was younger. All joints are still functioning properly and most people guess my age as being 10 years younger than it is.
I really appreciate you declining sponsorships at the end of the video for the reasons you listed. It promotes your honesty and integrity as a healthcare professional when you are advocating for only products you believe in or use yourself.
I’ve taken Vital Proteins on and off for many years. It did nothing when I took it in my early 40s, so I stopped taking it for several years. In my mid 40s I tried it again and I could definitely see a difference in nail strength and joint pain relief. No side effects. I liked it enough that I continue taking it.
I take Vital Proteins in my coffee daily. I’m 72 now. No bad side effects. Plus, I feel like my skin hydration has improved. Nail strength certainly has improved.
@@hannahhackney5656 I still put it in my coffee, after I put in the milk, which cools it off s bit, Dr. Rajani gave the temp it should be no higher than
Coffee accelerates aging in the skin. You are wasting your time and money by adding collagen to it. Stop coffee, keep your collagen supplement, drink 64 oz-80 oz of water a day, do a little cardio every day or other day for blood flow, and watch how much better your skin looks. Coffee/Caffeine is depleting; people don't realize it because it's normalized- just like smoking/nicotine used to be.
I notice a huge difference in my nails as well. My nails were quite bendable before. Now they are hard, and growing strong. Not sure I notice any difference in the quality of my skin or hair.
I began taking collagen for 7 or 8 years ago in hopes of easing joint pain. I had to stick with it at least 6 months before I could honestly say it was helping, but it DOES help. My ibuprofen consumption has been reduced dramatically. I am a breast cancer survivor, and a horseback rider. The aches/pains brought on after chemotherapy are better, and I recover more quickly after heavy exercise. Won’t risk being without it!
As someone who has also gone through chemo, bone cancer in particular is what ailed me. Calcium, Collegen, Omega-3's and Cold Pressed CBD significantly reduced my pain and inflammation, especially in the area of my surgery (Ulnar Nerve).
I use Nature's Bounty Fish Oil for Omega-3's and Nature's Truth Cold Pressed Hemp Oil for Omega 3, 6 and 9. For collagen, I use Spoiled Child Liquid Collagen, mango flavored. The liquid collagen also doesn't taste gross or medicine-like, so I'd definitely recommend it. @@kimberlyxo2358
That’s called placebo effect. And Did you even watch the video? She says that collagen has no positive effects and collagen supps could be laced with drugs
@@Len1977gtI've been using collagen supplements for over a year it's done wonders for my skin more.and more information is coming out now and they actually work this woman is full of negativity about everything and no I didn't listen to all her videos because I think she talks crap
@@Len1977gt -- She did not say anything about the placebo effect. She did NOT say that collagen has no positive effects. Rather, she said that collagen peptides do in fact find a way to the skin and are used as precursors by the skin...but more research is needed. Finally, she said to make sure that the collagen product you are using is independently tested because the supplement market in the USA is unregulated. She said that she was neutral on the issue. Did you even watch the video?
I agree my nails my skin the pain has slowed down. I put the collagen in my fruit smoothies I've been doing . I only buy organic frozen and fresh fruit . COSTCO Has both the collagen and my fruit
I take collagen for my shingles, honestly, people need sugar pills, but some supplements do that extra trick for what is needed, soothing interior lining, even if thats all it does. So YA it works, and is a no brainer.
Great video and i would say we all take a risk anyway by asking a primary doctor. Majority of the time Doctors will push a pill or a topical agent. I just started collegen and i look forward to the rewards.
I take Vital Protien collagen daily for my knees. I do notice that my hair grows faster, and my nails are stronger also. Mostly, I notice that my knees don't hurt as much. When I take a break from the collagen, my knee pain returns after a couple of weeks. That's reason enough for me to take it.
I've used Vital Proteins marine collagen peptides for about 3 years. The reason for starting was the claim that it might help with pain. I have to say it did to a very significant degree. My nails went from very ridged and brittle to close to their youthful strength over about 3 months. The change was observable as the improvement progressed from the roots. Visible improvement in the skin were in the form of a persistent flaky, dry patch on my forehead stopped being dry and flaky among some other things. I do feel a little "works for me"ish about it, but I'm ok with that.
Hi Kristine, I have also seen visible improvement using Vital Proteins, with stronger nails that grow faster and my hair diameter feels a little thicker (my hairstylist noticed it without my prompting). And crazy as it sounds, my lips are softer and almost look "plumped" and I have never used lip filler ; (0
I've had really similar results with Sparkle brand for 1 year so far. It's amazing! I have been so surprised - as far as living up to its claims, hydrolyzed collagen peptides have worked better for me than anything I've ever taken. It's cool to hear it's worked so well for others too.
I've been adding 2 scoops of Vital Proteins to my coffee every morning for years. I've never had a bad reaction, and I believe that it helps my skin. I stopped taking it for a short while and I noticed a (negative) difference which made me start adding it back to my coffee. I don't do much for skincare health, so at least it's something I can easily do.
Your straightforward, informed style is always appreciated. I have been using Vaseline on my hands and feet and notice more smoothness. My mother always used Vaseline on her face and still had smooth skin when she passed away at age 88.
I just recently at almost 50 started using sunscreen and Tretinoin, thanks to Dr. Dray….Better late than never I guess. I think genetics have a lot to do with your skin… My great grandmother had such nice skin at 97, that medical students came and photographed her for medical journals… I am trying to help with the sunscreen and the actives. I do use and like collagen. I don’t use it for the possible benefits. I like that it makes my coffee frothy. Very shallow, I realize, but I figure if I’m not having any side effects, so I enjoy it.🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
I have been taking Vital Proteins for a little over one year now. I am a senior. I began taking it with 0 expectations. Also because of the high cost, I have been taking half of the recommended dose. I noticed no improvement with my nails, very minimal hair improvement but it is hard to tell because I have very long hair. Skin...hard to say because I began a skin care regime 6 months ago which could attribute a benefit to my skin, but it does look better, but don't know exactly what improved it. All that said, I have noticed a big improvement in my joint pain. It was very slow to happen, but I would say about 5 months into the collagen I noticed something was different about my body and suddenly I realized I had no pain in my knees whatsoever. I think it is fair to attribute it to taking the collagen. My husband also noticed a reduction in joint pain.
I am sorry but how can you even comment on its efficacy if you havent even tried it how it suppose to be. I guess taking the recommended dose makes a difference to just one spoon a day.
I did take collagen over the span of three months (powder soluble in water, drinking it). Target was broad: possibly improving skin, hair, nails, joints. The very visible results were on the nails of my thumbs. Before: Thin nails, my thumbs‘ nails are usually wavy from using them and general living. After: I could see they actually stopped being wavy as they grew. Other nails got stronger too. No other change occurred that could have affected it. I ran out, didn’t purchase another right after and I could see how my nails turned a bit wavy again. I bought a new package yesterday.
I did a search of oral collagen for joints. I stick to studies from NIH or other reputable sources. There are some recent studies of various forms of collagen and effect on joints. It was interesting to learn that type 2 native collagen showed an antinflammatory effect in the joint, whereas hydrolyzed collagen did not, though it had other benefits. Since I deal with lifelong inflammation in my joints, this was of interest to me. I am taking both hydrolyzed collagen plus the native type 2 collagen to see if joints improve. Too early to tell. I do think I get a bit of GI upset. I’d trade that for being in less pain.
I had a terrible stomach reaction to the hydrolized collagen but if it truly helps with joint I would deal- I would love to hear back how it is going for you.
I’ve been taking Garden of Life grass fed collagen for a few years I notice my nails are stronger, I take a scoop in my coffee in the morning - no issues. Thanks for this informative video 😊
My mom had breast cancer 2 yrs ago. Luckily, she is doing well now but the oncologist said she cannot take collagen supplements. I’m not sure why but I’d love to know the reason.
I've been reading up on the collagen/cancer link via the NIH's medical library. It's complex. The specific collagen to avoid is Type IV. While it inhibits tumor growth initially, the collagen also creates pathways that act as super-highways for tumor cells in later stages. CB Supplements makes an NSF "sport certified" multi-collagen complex that contains no Type IV, though obviously your mom should follow the guidance provided by her oncologist. Wishing her well.
I don't see a ton of improvement in my skin but it does help with hair shedding. More than anything else is how much it helps with my joints. I was able to stop taking diclofenac after starting Vital Proteins Collagen. Also, Sam's has a killer sale right now, even better than Costo just now. ❤
@meggieprice I work for a group of orthopedics & one of our docs recommends most all of his patients take it. I grew up riding horses, my knees, hips & ankles always hurt but not when I take this.
@@meggiepriceI had mild GI issues when I first started. I only take 1 tablespoon, not the full dose because most of the studies have used lower doses, and more is not always better. After a couple of months I no longer had any issues. Maybe try working with a smaller amount for a while to see if you can get used to them and build up the enzymes needed to digest them?
I live in Europe. Here, dietary supplements are much more tightly regulated than in the States. The one I’m taking gives me no problems at all and it helped me with my very painful tennis elbow and other joint issues.
I’m in my third month of daily use. I’m 67 years old. After about one month I had a huge improvement in my hair texture and it seems to be growing faster. I’m not sure about nails or joints, and I’ve made other changes in my skin care, so I can’t speak to that. But I have no side effects and love my hair!
My Doctor recommended this for me years ago and I took it faithfully even bought travel packages for vacation and I never saw a difference. I used it for about 4 months. At Costco today, got sucked in by it being on sale going to try it again 🤞
I didn't notice any benefits with it until about the 5th month. And that benefit was with joint pain, and that was huge for me. I would appreciate any cosmetic improvement, but honestly I can't say it helped in that regard. I have been on it a year now.
I am in my mid 50's and now trying the Zena Liquid Collagen that I picked up from Costco. I've considered it in the past but it was $35.00 for 60 servings so when I found it at Costco for far less I decided to go for it. I paid $23.00 for a 90 servings bottle at Costco. My husband and I both take it. The flavor reminds me of the bubble gum/berry flavored pink antibiotics for children. I've noticed some changes, but I will not give a full review until I've had it for at least 6 months. The info on it .... Non GMO, Dairy free, gluten free, 5000 mcg of Biotin 2500 mg of type 1 & 3 Collagen, Verisol Bioactive Collagen Peptides, Purified water, natural flavor, malic acid, citric acid, monk fruit extract (lou han guo), sodium benzoate (preservative), potassium sorbate (preservative), stevia leaf extract.
I'm not buying this "Roxadustat contaminated collagen" claim. In fact, the ITIA stated "The tribunal accepted Halep’s argument that they had taken a contaminated supplement, but determined the volume the player ingested could not have resulted in the concentration of roxadustat found in the positive sample." More likely, Halep was taking that drug on purpose. She and her coach are just blaming a dietary supplement.
I use tretinoin and had expected peeling from time to time in the past. Whenever my skin started to peel, I would reduce the frequency of using tretinoin from every day to once other day and even less. Having said that since I started taking collagen supplements, the hydration level of my skin has obviously improved. No more peeling even with daily use of tretinoin during winter! I appreciate that it remains unclear whether these supplements can help boost collagen in the body, I’m happy to continue taking them to help my skin stay well-hydrated :)
wow i started using tret and kept wondering when the peeling would start. it never did! now i'm thinking it could be because i also take collagen supplements
So pleased and thankful to dr.dray for presenting a scientific/medical review of collagen peptides since she is at present a vegan! At onset I thought she may be biased but did not perceive any coming through. T/Y
I been taking vital collagen peptide for 4 years and it's the best one on the market I am almost 52 and menaupose and let me say that my hair has never been so long and thick all my life loll it works for me not sure about the wrinkle thing but for hair and nail 200% yes yes❤❤❤
I take Vital Proteins. I’m not sure about any skin benefits but I have gone from constant pain in my wrist that would frequently get bad enough to keep me awake, to only occasional mild pain and most days pain free. It did take about 4 months to achieve this I’ve had no bad side effects at all.
@@mirasingh7428 it’s hard to say because my skin is good for my 58 yrs, but I’ve used retin A every night for 5 yrs and that has made a great difference.
I am confident to attribute collagen peptides to markedly enhanced skin 'everything'. (My hair and nails have always been good.) Two years of consistent 20mg/day Vital bovine collagen peptides (in my morning coffees). 59 yr-old Australian woman, with consistent lifetime lifestyle habit of excellent health, nutrition (especially in last 20 years), exercise/high-level fitness & strength, and daily skincare (incl sun protection). I'm happy to continue the collagen peptides routine!
I am taking the vital one in your thumbnail. The only benefit I’ve noticed is for my hair loss around my hairline. It definitely helps that! Which is the reason I started it. My skin and fine lines haven’t changed.
@@lc7592, try putting it in tea instead. Or try using a different brand. Read online reviews and find one where most people don’t complain about the taste. Ones with a bovine or marine algae source would probably be better than ones with undisclosed (probably fish) source
I take a fiber supplement daily and the makers of it have one with collagen added in it. I love this particular supplement because I get my fiber, there’s no added sugar and the collagen helps with my joints. I have really good skin already and haven’t seen any skin benefit but I’m definitely less creeky in my joints.
I have great success for taking peptide collagen for years but now I made bone broth and drinking 2 cups a day. The outcome even better than collagen powder. All though, when I’m traveling I will take peptide collagen powder just because it easier. Thank you for your thought.😊
Another situation where I disagree with you. I have thinning knee cartilage and started taking Type 2 collagen and it made a huge difference. I can run semi long distances again where before I was in pain and had intense swelling at the knees. All gone. I also take Vital Proteins daily for skin, hair and nails with no issues. Nor have my doctors had any issues with it.
Same here. I started Vital Proteins not for my skin but for my knees. Couldn’t climb stairs without extreme pain even while doing indoor cycling for low impact muscle build for knees. A year after doing both the collagen and indoor cycling and I can jog up stairs now…. at 50.
I just started Wholesome Wellness multi collagen. It has 2 and others. I'm going to do Vital Proteins 1 day and this Multi Collagen the next. Going to alternate them and see how it goes. I'm going to try for 6 months before i decide if it works or not for me. @majoseval
I have thick hair, and my skin is without wrinkles or dryness. I'm 68 years old and been using Umzu collagen powder for a year or so.... Well, all I have to say is my hair gotten even thicker..skin is still flawless...and my nails...OMG can't stop growing and are super healthy... I don't even use the recommended scoop they use .. but only use one teaspoon in my smoothie in AM....... Idk...if all these facts you stated in ur video Dr Dray then WHY..is this burst of thicker hair and growth of nails occurring???? Still gave you thumbs up..think ur fabulous !!!!👏👏
This is a silly video. You are saying collagen supplementation is bad because someone might have an allergy and someone might get an adulterated product. These things have nothing to do with the safety and efficacy of collagen peptides. Nestle owns Vital Proteins and the company has an unmatched safety profile and the products are completely safe and greatly beneficial. Just know the brand and don't buy "Vetal Proteins" the knock off.
I thought this stuff was snake oil when they were giving out samples at my local Sprouts several years ago. My boyfriend said I should try it so decided to gamble. I had been having early signs of arthritis in my hands for about a year at that point. After taking the collagen, the pain is completely gone 99% of the time. I’m sold!
I have arthritis at the base of my thumbs, mainly in my dominate hand. I suspect it is genetic because all 4 of my siblings have the exact same thing beginning in our 40's. I am now 75 and over the last year began collagen, and since then the pain at times has come close to going away only to return this winter but to a far lesser degree than before. I take nothing else for it. But while not gone, the swelling has reduced about 50% If only I knew about in my 40's, I might have avoided the bone displacement that the arthritis caused. I don't think that will ever go away.
@cellgrrl I also have pain in the base joint of both thumbs. I used very reputable collagen powders for months but found no relief. When I recently tried Trunature Verisol Collagen capsules, I felt less pain immediately (though the pain has come back this winter some). It was either the capsules or the hair keratin treatment that I got about that time....& if it WAS the hair treatment that took away the pain, then maybe it's way too potent & way too absorbed via the scalp to do it again. 🤯
Well done. Interesting. I searched on the line with the differences between gel and collagen peptides. You educated me today. You made great points. Obviously you are a good researcher. Again, impressed and well done, good presence on camera, too.
I’m 67 yo and less than 6 months taking collagen peptides. I decided to try it to improve skin appearance, which it probably has, but not significantly. I already have regularly used Tretinoin for over five years. What I dramatically noticed is an improvement in my hair texture! Plus my hair and nails are growing much faster. I have no side effects so I’m continuing it, for sure.
Personally I've notice my keratosis pilaris had gotten so much better since supplementing with collagen peptides, about 90% better actually. I started noticing a difference after about 6 months of taking collagen.
I find it easier to take glycine supplements rather than wondering if the collagen is tainted or even working. If you have joint pain, you might look into Boron and castor oil packs. BTW, your hair is a stunning color and so glossy!
Agreed! Any product under consideration should be examined for quality and efficacy. But given that taking collagen is controversial in itself--a red flag that shouldn't be ignored, I would rather support the body in creating its own as a better strategy.
I have definitely noticed a significant improvement in my nails after taking collagen peptides (Verisol) for about 8 months. My nails have been brittle all my life, but ever since I started taking collagen, they have become stronger, that's a fact. However, I can't say for sure if my skin has improved because I have been following a skincare routine, which might also be contributing to any improvements I have noticed on that regard.
I was glad to have more information. I have been considering supplementation because i have just the beginnings of arthritis. I'm still on the fence mostly out of fear of allergic reaction.
I have RA and I've been using Vital Proteins for 7 months and it helps with pain and hair and nail growth. I was about to get a total knee replacement it helped my pain so much I have put off the knee replacement.
Hey Dr. Dray, thanks so much for your always-informative videos. I've been using Nature Made collagen gummies and was curious if there was any evidence of collagen in that form showing the same benefits as the hydrolyzed powder? I know some substances are not nearly as effective in gummy form and was curious about your thoughts?
I take some every morning. Because they are also great for tendons and ligaments when practicing some sports. Together with N acetyl glucosamine and condroitine.
I'm 80. 5 years of ascorbic acid and now for about a year 225mg of berry derived C complex. 2tbsp collagen peptides for about a year. A few months of Ka-Chava. In the sun daily for 20 years as a nudist. Purpulas bruising and skin breaking when bumped continues unabated. 😢
I have been taking the collagen peptides for a little over two months. I had to stop this week because of weight gain, acne, and intestinal and throat issues. Never had these issues prior to taking it. I’m 45. I’m going to see if I go back to how I was prior to taking it and see if that was what was causing it. Nothing else has changed.
A word of caution. I found out the hard way that collagen supplements can cause hypercalcemia (excess calcium), which can trigger an abnormal heart rhythm. I was so disappointed because I'd heard so many great things about it. It was an expensive lesson to learn.
@@BOUJEEBOGANBADBITCHQUEEN I wasn't just talking about myself, sweetie. You know, that pesky little thing called science that's learned over the years how things like calcium and the heart work. I hope for your special little unicorn's sake bitchiness is a side effect of the collagen and not your natural state.
Wow! That's interesting. I take collagen peptides and the dr just told me I had an irregular heart rhythm at my last appointment. Can you tell me more about your experience?
Collagen gives me a rash. Didn’t work for me in anyway. Could be the brand. I’ve had other collagen powders that just made me tired and depressed. All of the side effects I experienced on it are side effects of collagen. It would be nice to see a video on the side effects and why someone’s body might just be rejecting collagen to begin with. Does that mean we already have enough collagen production. Is it just an allergy to something in collagen products. What? We see enough of the benefits being peddled to people, but some of us have side effects to this stuff. I’m glad that you did touch on that a bit. And that is that it’s a dietary supplements. And we don’t know what that company is using to make it. It could be something in that which is causing me to always have a negative reaction to collagen. I have however tried collagen cream and serums, and those worked fine with no side effects. Maybe because it’s not going through the digestive track. Who knows. But I didn’t find it any different than just using a regular moisturizer.
Dr. Dray. I am completely confused about Vaseline. I have heard several dermatologists say "never ever put Vaeline or petroleum jelly on your face". How can there be so many conflicting opinions. To me, it either is great to use or not. So what is to be believed and why are so many dermatologists adamant about its horrible detriments.
I enjoy your videos Dr Dray. I would like to hear what you think about topical estrogen creams for anti-aging skincare. I’m seeing ads for these. Thank you!!
I'm a nurse and our top orthopaedic surgeons put our patients on vitamin c post surgery for collagen synthesis. Presumably for wound healing. I'm curious if that is sufficient for the skin.
On side effects from collagen supps: they certainly could happen. But, in reading research, I don't recall many serious side effects being seen. Mostly, researchers noted that there were few if any problems.
I’d love to hear your take on estriol in skincare. I see a lot of ads for these skincare products. I’m in my 40s and wondering if this would help my skin concerns
I'd check out her video on estrogen from a couple weeks ago. I might also check Mary Claire Haver (ob/gyn) who specializes in HRT and has talked about this. Penn Smith Skincare did a video with one of the doctors from the My Alloy site about their M4 cream. The Cut also had an interesting article, is that estrogen in your face cream safe? They talk about estriol, estradiol, MEP and the issues that can arise from topical and internal mixing of different estrogens.
I’m on the side of intollerable effects camp. I took a very high quality well studied supplement for about 6 months. I started getting muscle aches and tendon / ligament pain that was persistent. A couple days after I stopped the supplements, all my pains vanished. Very strange! I kept wondering if the collagen was contaminated in some way. I felt like I was poisoning myself. Very scary!
Since my 40s my skin and weight management benefit from pure beef bone broth proteins. I purchase the unflavored instant powder and simply add to my coffee or shake. Very low calorie but packed with great benefits. My skin thanks me during these dry winters ❤
Every collagen I have taken, vital protein( fish/bovine), sparkle, vanita rattan, costco collagen. Everyone I've had bad side effects. Sparkle was the worse with horrible chest pain and tummy issues
What helps bruising on older skin that are not on blood thinners. What helps thicken the skin? Especially on the arms. sometimes the skin bleeds out when bumped.
Just my anecdotal evidence, but I have absolutely noticed my fingernails grow faster and stronger since taking bovine hydrolyzed collagen. Keratin uses a lot of glycine, so I assume that's why. It's definitely doing "something" beneficial, but I take it more as a preventative since we lose collagen as we age, so I am not scrutinizing any specific changes in the skin or connective tissue/joints. I think the results will be more whether or not I still have decent levels of collagen 10 to 20 years from now after regular supplementation compared to others who aren't supplementing.
I never once thought you'd sell us something while providing knowledgeable guidance! But im not new here lol! I love that you don't function as an infomercial channel ❤
Just my opinion, but if the preponderance of evidence shows collagen peptides are beneficial for the skin, it seems silly to wait years for a giant study to appear in JAAD before trying them out. Scare mongering aside, nutritional supplements are very safe compared to drugs (drug toxicity is a leading cause of death in the US) so, given the potential upsides, there's very little downside to using collagen peptide supplements.
I honestly more curious about the research around collagen peptides for the GI tract in terms of o moving digestion and the stomach lining integrity, as I see it being marketed for that as well but mainly talked about for skin health!
I'm not sure if it works for skin. But, I take Vital Proteins Marine collagen peptides because I'm an endurance runner. I experience less knee pain and recover faster from my runs. It works much better than glucosamine. Just a disclaimer that I don't work for them. I was having knee issues and someone recommended it. It just so happens to work for me.
Considering that collagen production declines with aga, I suspect many people likely are not taking enough. Seems that the older you are, the more you would need to supplement. I currently use about 15g mixed with my daily protein shake. Room temperature water with Vital Proteins bovine. I also take a bit of vitamin C with it.
I’ve been using Central Market collagen peptides powder for probably 3 months now to try to combat hormonal issues like brittle nails and hair. My nails are stronger and grow faster, and don’t crumble or peel at the ends anymore, so that’s nice. Hope I see improvement in hair and skin soon.
I have used Vital Proteins religiously for over 3 years in hopes that it would improve knee pain and hair health. I can't say that I have noticed any improvement in these areas. I have noticed that my fingernails and toenails grow like crazy
I do believe that it helped my skin and hair a bit. I dont’ see any difference in my nails. It did however, improved my blood work drastically. I don’t have any more energy than I did before, but I continue to take it basically because it is considered a supplement so it’s covered by my health insurance Flex card.
I've used marine collagen. I saw a difference in my nails. I also took it to help with some mild joint pain. I have felt some benefits. However, I am over 50.
I believe that these supplements are useful but not miracle makers ok that's for sure. Also i totally agree that we should look that if the supplement we are going to purchase is third party tested and it's actually safe to use and consume. Thank you yet again doctor Andrea for debunking these myths you are so cool 😊❤.
I’ve been using collagen for about 6 weeks and pain in my back, knees, fingers, thumb has decreased. Can’t tell with skin but my nails look better. However it constipates me, I haven’t seen that as a side effect anywhere and also I’ve gained 3 lbs. I’m 68.
I just bought a big blue jar of that Vital proteins collagen peptides but I had to stop : that stuff makes me nauseous and dizzy the whole day, even just half the dose. So sad, I was really hoping it would help my bad knees 😢

Taking collagen peptides ABSOLUTELY WORK! I started taking them about 6 months ago and my skin has improved remarkably!!!

I would love to know what brand you take.
My story is exactly the same, other than I don't notice any nail improvement.
Lose 20lbs and your knee pain will disappear for ever
@@wendyfrech7863 I can't say anything about my hair, it has always been thick and strong. But the lips seeming plumper, yes, same.
I've been taking it for four months and I see no changes whatever 😢 My nails are still horribly fragile. Are you only taking collagen?
I've had really similar results with Sparkle brand for 1 year so far. It's amazing! I have been so surprised - as far as living up to its claims, hydrolyzed collagen peptides have worked better for me than anything I've ever taken. It's cool to hear it's worked so well for others too.
@@wendyfrech7863 This all sounds like your imagination.
My Grams did the same thing and she had beautiful skin at age 98
My great aunt was also 98 when she passed away and she only used Vaseline intensive care lotion on her face .🤔
Vaseline is dangerous it's filled with peterelioum and mineral oil no thanks you can keep your poison
Vaseline is made of petroleum.... highly toxic😮
Very shallow, I realize, but I figure if I’m not having any side effects, so I enjoy it.🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Which collagen do you use?
We must know GGM’s secret.
What was your great grandmothers secret?
What was GGM's secret ? Possibly vaseline or some one step skin routine? 😅
How much do you take everyday? Thanks!
I been using my vital collagen the last couple of months and I definitely see a huge difference in my skin it especially with my acne.
It reduces acne? Or helps with healing acne scars?
Interesting! Thanks for this comment. I love the hydrolyzed collagen, but it appears I have some more research to do.
I had a terrible stomach reaction to the hydrolized collagen but if it truly helps with joint I would deal- I would love to hear back how it is going for you.
Which are the benefits of hydrolyzed collagen according to your research

@@angelwhisper239 ok. I was just wondering if it was an estrogen/progesterone breast cancer. Some foods etc are to be avoided
@@blibertinerealm8549 It was Triple Negative which is not hormone related which makes it more confusing to me.

2500 mg of type 1 & 3 Collagen, Verisol Bioactive Collagen Peptides, Purified water, natural flavor, malic acid, citric acid, monk fruit extract (lou han guo), sodium benzoate (preservative), potassium sorbate (preservative), stevia leaf extract.

hi Sally, what has your experience been? thank you!
I'm not buying this "Roxadustat contaminated collagen" claim. In fact, the ITIA stated
"The tribunal accepted Halep’s argument that they had taken a contaminated supplement, but determined the volume the player ingested could not have resulted in the concentration of roxadustat found in the positive sample."
More likely, Halep was taking that drug on purpose.

I have no side effects so I’m continuing it, for sure.

So much info! Thank you Dr Dray 📝
I started using hydrolyzed collagen powder when I hit menopause. Definitely Helped with stiffness and I think hydration
I find it easier to take glycine supplements rather than wondering if the collagen is tainted or even working. If you have joint pain, you might look into Boron and castor oil packs. BTW, your hair is a stunning color and so glossy!
Why would glycine be more regulated?
Agreed! Any product under consideration should be examined for quality and efficacy. But given that taking collagen is controversial in itself--a red flag that shouldn't be ignored, I would rather support the body in creating its own as a better strategy.
Great info!! Have been wondering about this.
Nails are made from keratin not collagen so i wonder what’s going on there - lots of people report nails and hair improve with collagen
what brand/product do you use?
You could have histamine intolerance, try taking the gelatin instead it’s more gentle, I’ve seen improvement in my skin and all with it
A word of caution. I found out the hard way that collagen supplements can cause hypercalcemia (excess calcium), which can trigger an abnormal heart rhythm. I was so disappointed because I'd heard so many great things about it. It was an expensive lesson to learn.
I imagine if it’s taken with K2 this should be averted completely. K2 drives calcium where it’s needed and redirects it in places of excess
I've never had any problems and I've been using it for years upon years sucks to be you
@@BOUJEEBOGANBADBITCHQUEEN I wasn't just talking about myself, sweetie.
How did you come to that conclusion? It doesn't contain calcium?
If you notice, regardless of specialty, you'll pretty much never find doctors who agree 100 percent and share the exact opinion.
I enjoy your videos Dr Dray.
I would like to hear what you think about topical estrogen creams for anti-aging skincare. I’m seeing ads for these. Thank you!!
She has a couple videos on that including a recent one.
I'm a nurse and our top orthopaedic surgeons put our patients on vitamin c post surgery for collagen synthesis. Presumably for wound healing. I'm curious if that is sufficient for the skin.
Vitamin C acts as a growth factor and will help the body synthesize collagen when there is proline and glycine amino acids present.
On side effects from collagen supps: they certainly could happen. But, in reading research, I don't recall many serious side effects being seen. Mostly, researchers noted that there were few if any problems.
Please talk and compare PRP, stem cell booster injection from Korea and Exosome therapy. Which is better to firm and lift skin?
Exosomes!
Thanks I will look into them 👍
I’m on the side of intollerable effects camp.

This isn’t unusual to hear. I used to take collagen and had zero side effects until til one day I did.

I had stomach issues from collagen powders until I started using them in cooking - stove top made porridge or soups.
Do you have allergies to beef, pork, chicken, fish, or eggs? If so, there are alternative products that you can take to affect collagen production.
You possibly have enough body is rejecting it.
I used marine collagen, it made me anxious, I will stick to eating chicken turkey and eating eggs, great vid thank you ❤

Hi Dr Dray, what are you using for your hair these days? It looks so shiny and soft!
If you check her weekend vlogs, she lists the products she's using in the description box.
Do these things work over 12 months plus ?
I follow consumer labs for information on products. Appreciate all your knowledge on what to use and not use.
This is so right on! I was just considering taking exactly the one in your thumbnail- can't wait to hear what you say. 💜💜💜

@@DrDrayzday My questions are about collagen for knees etc.
I honestly more curious about the research around collagen peptides for the GI tract in terms of o moving digestion and the stomach lining integrity, as I see it being marketed for that as well but mainly talked about for skin health!
Thank You So Much, for Keeping Your Videos So Honest and Real Dr. Dray!! Happy Wednesday, Hope Your Day is Going Amazing!!

Worked on my hair loss
I'm not sure if it works for skin. But, I take Vital Proteins Marine collagen peptides because I'm an endurance runner. I experience less knee pain and recover faster from my runs. It works much better than glucosamine.
Just a disclaimer that I don't work for them. I was having knee issues and someone recommended it. It just so happens to work for me.
U didn't noticed any difference in skin after starting collagen?
Excellent presentation! Do some collagen supplements affect biomarkers like IGF-1?
I have used Vital Proteins religiously for over 3 years in hopes that it would improve knee pain and hair health. I can't say that I have noticed any improvement in these areas. I have noticed that my fingernails and toenails grow like crazy
Dr. Dray, what are some things you DO recommend for increasing collagen?
Thanks for the video Dr Dray, reminded me that there is a sale of $9 off each . . had to restock. Enjoy!
