I took unflavored collagen in my coffee everyday. I started for aging reasons, but a wonderful side effect was it healed my knee. I have bone on bone on my left knee. I was dragging my left leg around. Now I have no knee pain at all.

I read that alot, it doesn't really do much for the skin but people are healed from joint pains and walk without pain again and things like that. Seems a good anough reason to try because the doctor only gives me painkillers.

Dr. Dray thank you for the video. One thing I would educated women on is the importance of Vitamin D3 and low levels being linked to having a higher rate of developing an autoimmune disease Multiple Sclerosis. I am 44 yrs old and since I was a teenager wore SPF daily throughout the year, hats as well. Minimized my time in the sun. With vanity loved people's reaction that they assumed I was ten years younger. Than in March 2021, I had went paralysis from T4 bilateral to my toes and diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The Neurologist explained to me several evidence based studies believe to be a link in the prevention of MS is keeping your Vitamin D level up. Mine was 12 ng/ml at the time of dx. I know take daily Vitamin D3 with K2 for better absorption and 3 months later it's 44 ng/ml. I agree 100% about sun protection however, in retro spect I wish I would of been on a Vitamin D3 supplement. Thank you to all that read this.

Its not just K2 for better absorbtion, if you dont take K2 the cholecalciferol will end up in your arteries and kill you.

Going through menopause as we speak. I am 48 and started getting issues age 47 going on 48, so this has been going on about a year now. I will be 49 this year. My mom was 42-44. 10 years later she had really bad osteoporosis due to early onset menopause, and was put on bisphosponates for that, a calcium supplement was no longer gonna touch that. She is 75 and has needed to take it long-term because she is that low, it has gotten better but it was actually discovered too late. If anyone out there is going through early onset menopause, get a simple bone density test done on the regular as of a couple years later. It will save you if you are not going on HRT! My mom had already shrunken and gotten a "hump"-like posture. That is when I noticed something was up & told her. She, thankfully, had it checked out when she went for a pap smear and the doctor also noticed!

That’s the importance of vitamin d3 and K2 ( mk7). I’m not sure why doctors are not recommending a vitamin d test for everyone. I’ve been taking it for 5 years now , got my levels up to 70 and all my aches have disappeared and I haven’t had a cold or Covid or flu ! I’m 64 and have never felt better ! I hope your Mom can continue to improve but maybe it would be a good idea to get those levels checked. Every little bit helps.

@@maritakochis7102 She does so on the regular. She is currently resting with a broken foot and the x-rays still indicated "osteoporosis" / it is better for her, but she still never can get off the bisphosphonates. Vitamin D can only do so much when you actually have osteoporosis!

As a Taiwanese, I can tell you why sunscreen is such a big deal in east Asia. It all about the needs to have WHITE SKIN. It's more of preventing their skin getting darker than protect their skin. I don't think most people know sunscreen can protect their skin to lose collagen. You can see that in those Asian brands sunscreen advertisements. It's always showing how their products can prevent you from getting darker skin and then how lightweight it is. Almost never mention how will it prevent the sun exposure to damage you skin or prevent skin cancer like the one I saw in Australian sunscreen advertisements.

I diligently took collagen for several months and saw absolute no hair loss and my re growth is amazing. I understand post partum hormone levels can even out and eventually hair loss will stop but I contribute my collagen supplementation a key factor in helping the amount of shedding I had. I have worn sunscreen daily since about the 4th or fifth grade and my mother was always good about making me wear sunscreen when I was out in the sun, which really wasn't that often. Even so, I began to develop skin issues at 24, which was difficult and I have never really been happy with my skin since. In my late twenties I was diagnosed with Vitamin D definciency and I think it must have been quite severe because I felt achy throughout my body. After my Vitamin D levels were restored, I began to feel much better. I have always wondered, though, how to balance the need for Vitamin D with skin protection since they say you need to be in the sun for your body to make Vitamin D. Also, spending some time outdoors has a psychological benefit, at least for me. I would love to hear your thoughts on this in a future video. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. I always enjoy your videos!

Agreed. I wish there was more nuance in her opinions on sun exposure. Also there are varying skin complexions and UV rays are different at different latitudes. I imagine the damage is far worse for someone with light skin living in California than someone like me in vancouver where there is no sun. I need all the sun I can get here ! We lived on the lake and I vacationed in the sun and had Tanlines all year round. I only used Hawaiian Tropic sun oil. I got very dark. Now it’s 60 and I have a little fine lines all over my face. I also had basal cell carcinoma skin cancer on my chest. None of this showed until later on down the road. My doctor told me that the skin cancer on my chest must’ve started a long time ago. I am not particularly light-skinned either I have a medium light medium skin. But I roasted myself and never put anything on my face. Then I got tanned but I noticed I started looking old. 😖😖😖

This is the reason there is a slightly higher risk of cancer with hrt. Estrogen alone is good for women without a uterus. If a woman still has a uterus, it is a good idea to include a bit of progesterone to stop the thickening of the uterine lining.

Despite that huge women's study that showed the positive correlation between estrogen and development of breast cancer, I read the research closely and decided that all the benefits of estrogen were worth it. I also keep up with self-checks of breast tissue and overall symptoms of illness. Now people are asking why I have no wrinkling in my face. I admit I work outside all summer long, and it's hard to keep up with sun exposure, but I really believe the estrogen is helpful. Women were never meant to live past menopause, so there are many negative effects that transpire when the estrogen is missing.

SPF was available and used by the general public in the 70s. I know because I was a child then and my parents bought Ambre Solaire to use on holidays, hot days etc. The SPF was not high, but suncreams with SPF DID exist and were available. Also aftersun creams. Now, there were idiots who were obsessed with having deep tans, and would happily burn lobster red to get this horrible effect, and they certainly did not see SPF as a 'thing'. But people who objected to getting painful burns or knew sunbathing - from simple observation - made you wrinkle early - certainly did. I was an adult in the 90s and used sunscreen a lot back then when I lived abroad and travelled to hot countries a lot. It wasn't fashionable to use it the way it is now, but even now there are morons who think white people should tan themselves to leathery, spotted brown and shun sunscreen.

Hi! I tried taking Vital Proteins and it literally made me sick!! It caused bad stomach issues like nausea and i wondered why! I agree about staying out of the sun i quit in my early 20s & i think wearing sunscreen is very important also i do see a difference when i eat lots if leafy green vegetables & eat fruit & 100% fruit juice. One thing i will say is cutting out coffee & switching healthy teas like matcha & oolong tea makes a huge difference. For some reason coffee seems to dehydrate my skin! I am sensitive to the acids in coffee so im fixing to work on cutting it out & switching back to tea. You give such great information & i learn a lot from your videos. Thank you for this!! 😊

Same! I think there's an important balance between preparing for your future (sunscreen, sun protective measures, etc) but also remembering that tomorrow isn't guaranteed so enjoy your life (like the nice weather) now while we can.

I love the sun as well...It is life giving for me! During the weekends, I spend hours a day in the sun and try to get at least 30 minutes a day during the week, sun protected of course! 🌞

I live in a tropical country so I'm constantly trying to get away from the sun lol which is not very easy to do. And it's hard to use clothes as protection because it's so hot :(

While driving in rush our every day, I actually wore a UV and infrared mask and run the A/C on my face. With that and sunscreen everyday, I reversed my hyperpigmentation on my face and a few wrinkles actually reversed.

Smoking isn't good for your health but my dad has smoked cigarettes since he was in his teens, he is now sixty seven and the man looks like he's fifty! He does work out regularly and aging gracefully has a lot to do with genetics.

Do you spend a lot of time on the phone at night? I did and what I do now is put my phone away about 1-2 hours before getting in bed. I read a book instead and I also put the volume down on notifications at night. Before I would hear the phone and get up to look at it and I couldn't sleep afterwards. Now I wait to look at it in the morning when I wake up. This has helped me.

Being a skin Doctor I guess you don't think vitamin D is important. Getting sun 20 minutes a day and boosting D levels to healthy levels is well worth the minor risk to my skin.

I drink a daily tea, with Collagen and such and yeah, I'm sure the years of bein' a Mom and Grandma have taken a toll on my earned grin and skin...lol...but what of the Surfer Girl, Doc? They always look so young and seem to age pretty well, tan and all? Is it that salt water and zinc oxide that graces their faces?...lol...I have learned so much just watching your kind flow and info and I am thankful to now know how to protect my skin this summer chasing after my grandkids at that pool....lol. Have a great week, Doc! 😎
