Live in Paris 92 is the best version I've seen (personally). Slash was 27ish at the time. but he was so wasted at that concert he looked like he was in his 50s but still killed it on guitar, when most of us wouldn't of been able to stand upright let alone playing bangin guitar for two hours

Axl Rose, for all of his many personality issues and lifestyle problems, had an INCREDIBLE vocal range, with more than 5 octaves including his growl and falsetto.
Killer rhythm section (Steven, Duff, and Izzy), Slash on lead, and Axl's voice... They were a hard rocking band that could also nail ballads.
They were a transition from Glam/Hair/Metal Rock bands that moved into Grunge.
And, Axl's voice was a HUGE influence on the Grunge singers, from Cobain to Vedder...

I always thought of the aftermath of war when it came to this song. Like Brad said, the mental state of the soldiers and the regret they had for doing the things they did to a fellow human being, justified or not. IIRC, the phone call in the middle was from GNR's manager...? and it was to Axl in reference to him walking out on the band during a practice. I think they had a friend of the producer re-enact it for the song and music video. He was basically telling Axl to get his life sorted before he loses the band and career.

If there is any way you could watch video and see lyrics PLEASE try to. The passion coming from Sebastian Bach's vocals are primal. Raw. That same passion is shown on his face in the video. The vocals are hands down Bach's best. There's a big connection between the two bands, you can feel it in this song.

Not really sure cuz wasn't round back then but I try to listen to people like you or anyone and watch as many freaking UA-cam videos as I can about different music and especially these guys. Sucks that GNR was priming all over the world and then boom, they split as we knew them. These great bands always have these inner circle arguments of ego. My dad claims Yoko Ono was the main reason the Beatles split but I think she just fed fuel to the fire that John wasn't getting his just do's and maybe he didn't need these guys or some stuff but IDK for sure. Axl is very misunderstood by most people. Yes, he had his mental & emotional demons, but "crazy" didn't break up the band. Izzy left once he got clean, and couldn't be around the excess, but joined Axl's new GN'R on-stage frequently throughout the early 2000's in Japan and South America; no bad blood, ever. Duff & Slash ultimately quit due to Axl wanting control over the brand, which would have made them GN'R employees rather than equal members. Most fans and critics cite this as an ego power move by Axl, but he was just ensuring the future of GN'R as Duff & Slash struggled w/ alcohol and substance abuse; they were easily headed down the same road as Steven Adler, the original drummer. Axl never actually had an addiction problem. Similarly, Bon Jovi has always been marketed and presented as an ensemble band, however, since day one, all members have always been contractual hired musicians of Jon Bon Jovi. Axl was just being a businessman cause the rest of the band couldn't keep their shit together. I love all of 'em and don't mean to trash them, I just feel Axl gets wrongfully criticized.

This led to Axl taking control of th name GnR & their catalog of music, & immediately led to a lawsuit between them & Axl. I'm sure they won b/c I don't think a contract is binding if th signee is under th influence of drugs/alcohol

The only other juicy song to react to from Guns N' Roses (since you've done most of the big ones) would be COMA.... it's a 10 minute song with no chorus and because you're listening with headphones, it will take you on a ride. Take Care N' God Bless.

Some Axl Rose trivia: He has the greatest vocal range of anyone who has ever been recorded. His range is even greater than Mariah Carrey. She can go higher than him, but he can go way lower than her.

      Axl: Drop the mic.

@@aha3885 he filled in for a couple forgettable performances with AC/DC. Hardly can be considered a front man for them. Bon Scott and Brian Johnson are the only two who will ever hold that title.

The song is original from Bob Dylan and it was written for the movie "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid" The story goes that Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid use to be best friends but later on in life Billy became a gangster and Pat was a sheriff, so eventually Pat was forced to shot down Billy and that"s why he"s saying that he don"t wanna use the badge and shot people anymore!

Funny how the album version is kinda lame compared to how killer it sounds on the Live at the Ritz 88 bootleg. Also, Adler's drumming sounded so much better then Sorum's.

Just saw GnR live in Vegas back in August at the Raiders stadium. Amazing show even if that stadium is one of the worst places acoustically to have a concert (the shape of the dome roof makes it almost impossible to not have the vocals echo) Slash is a beast on the guitar, def one of, if not the best guitarist I've seen live, and I've seen a lot considering I'm a stagehand and running spotlights is part of my job.
