It's referring to the woman of the wild, the one Lucifer lures and then imprisones in bronze chains for eternity. Can you not hear it? I've been listening to it for 40 years, I can hear the real words.
In 1982, my mother's boyfriend had been drinking, we were there at his trailer, Charles was nice, even when he'd been drinking, he put in. Black Sabbath cassette, we listened to a few songs, his friend Jack pulled up, and sat in his his truck a few moments before getting out, N.I.B came on, terror emerged in Charles eyes, his hands started shaking, he stood up and looked at Jack getting out of his truck, Jack had blood stains on his shirt he was carrying a knife, he'd just killed and skinned a deer, but Charles thought he was there to hurt us, Charles got that huge shot gun, my mother covered my head, and before I knew it, I heard it, then silence , I lost my hearing for three days, the doctor said that a mere gunshot sound wouldn't do that. But something clawed itself in the heart and soul of Charles that day, he pleaded insanity. I've never heard about him again.I can't drive when this song plays, when I listen to it, I don't feel myself. It's an evil covered in beauty.

In this episode of Brad & Lex, The comfortable couch couple are both led down the bassline rabbit hole into upbeat drum ecstacy before Ozzy's informal introduction to his natural yet unorthodox vocal tone changes the atmosphere. Brad has a theory and so does Lex as they passively debate love, lust or other but not without returning to the issue at hand and displaying what we come for.....Brad's signature "side to side sway" and Lex's "air guitar/rock bop"?
The title NIB refers to a pen nib - the old style fountain pen which Black Sabbath members would have used when they were kids in the 1950's. Bill Ward's beard was shaped like a pen nib so they just called the song NIB.
The term N.I.B has some connection to police forensics; however, the truth of the matter in naming this song is that the drummer Bill Ward's beard, according to the rest of the band, looked like a pen nib.
Man if we had all the resources that we have today, back in the 60's and 70's, Bands like this Badass group and the greatest ever in the Beatles, would be super rich! Thanks for sharing Brad and Lex!

Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward & Geezer Butler we’re the awesome combo callled BLACK SABBATH. They are the pioneers that started Heavy Metal. And inspired many other sub-genres of Heavy Metal.
There is a version of this song with Ozzy and Primus, bass is over the top with Mr. Claypool. Can be found on Soundcloud but not here on YT (copyright stuff I think).
If I’ve done enough to make Him feel the need to visit me it’s probably too late to not listen to or look into His eyes-the deeds have been done 😳Millions of people have been killed in the name of religion for millennia’s so if someone put a gun to my head and said “Pick one” I would definitely choose this path. But only w that gun pointed at me-otherwise any ‘organized’ religion is nothing more than a glorified cult in my opinion. But hey, opinions are like assholes-everybody’s got one😳
Many fans thought the title stood for "Nativity In Black" or "Name In Blood." The bass intro is called "Bassically." It is listed as a separate song on US versions of the album. "Nativity In Black" is the name of two Black Sabbath tribute albums released in 1994 and 2000. Groups contributing to the albums include Megadeth, Godsmack, Biohazzard, and Faith No More. The first Nativity In Black album, released in 1994, contains a cover of this by Ugly Kid Joe. The second, from 2000, contains a version from Primus with Ozzy Osbourne. In November of 1969, Black Sabbath appeared on John Peel's Top Gear radio show, where they played this song along with "Black Sabbath," "Behind the Wall of Sleep," and "Sleeping Village." It was some great early exposure for the band.
Lord of this world is my personal fav BS song. I also like about 2/3 of Born Again. I know. I know. It wasn’t ozzy nor dio and Ian’s voice didn’t quite fit but there are some good songs on there- thrashed, zero the hero, disturbing the priest. Just my opinion.
From Wiki: "N.I.B." is a song released by British rock band Black Sabbath. It first appeared as the fourth track on the band's 1970 debut album, Black Sabbath. The lyrics are in the first person from the point of view of Lucifer. Bassist Geezer Butler, who composed the song's lyrics, has said that "the song was about the devil falling in love and totally changing, becoming a good person."
This story actually happened in real life because my wife's sister had to have been seduced by the Devil because her little kid is a demon that could only have been spawned by Satan himself. The kid drives me absolutely crazy at the holiday dinners. Anyways - thanks for your reactions. I love them.
I was playing this album in my bedroom at 14. My dad busted in and heard "my name is Lucifer pleas take my hand." Three weeks later I was enrolled in a Military Academy halfway across the state (Virginia). Yeah, this song brings up a lot of bad memories. In fact, it's the first time I've listened to it since that very night.
“My name is Lucifer, please take my hand “ Basically…… will you take this fools hand?….. because I will love you forever……. Silly for everybody to hear lyrics, but yeah we are just saying we will take care of you and love you forever……
Tony Iommi, the guitarist, quit his job in a factory to pursue his music career with Black Sabbath. On his last day, he got put onto a machine that he wasn't familiar with and chopped the ends of his fingers off. He ended up melting bottle tops onto the ends of his stumped fingers so that he could still perform on the guitar.
So Geezer wrote the song. Someone commented about how it's the Devil falling in love with a woman...Ok 🫢🫢. I could be wrong, but I think N.I.B stands for Nativity In Black. I'm not an expert in this area. The early 70's were a real mess, and Cocain played a huge role. Don't know if I'll ever understand this song completely. Anyway, early Black Sabbath is so Awesome! Well and I have to say, the idea of the Devil falling in love with a woman and becoming good is very bizarre, but original.
You are wrong. The band has told the story several times. The title N.I.B. comes from the band's nickname for the drummer. They called him nibby because his pointy beard resembled the tip or nib of a fountain pen. The periods were added to the title later to make it look more interesting in print. The bassist and lyricist Geezer (also a nickname) Butler said that wondered what would happen if Satan fell in love with a woman and how that might change him and make him good. It's similar to some Greek myths where God's would fall in love with humans. The idea of Nativity In Black came from misguided fans who often wrongly believed that Black Sabbath were Satanists. They actually wrote a few Christian based songs to prove that they didn't worship Satan. Furthermore, Nativity In Black makes zero sense. Lucifer, the devil or Satan are Judeo Christian concepts. In Judaism and Christianity, there is no such thing as a Satanic Nativity. God created the devil as an angel and later cast him down to earth after he and 1/3 of the other angels rebelled against God and had a war with the other angels. You can't just take a being from the existing Christian religion, who already has his own creation story and then give him the same birth story as Christ, just because it sounds correct to you. It isn't correct. The Bible is very clear about how Satan came to exist. He was not born in a human body like Jesus. It's just like the concept of selling your soul to the devil. That's not a Christian concept. It's not in the Bible. According to Christianity. Your soul belongs to God and he judges your soul. It's not your soul to sell. You can't just take the devil from Christianity and make him do things that aren't a part of Christianity. You might as well say that Santa Claus attended the birth of Jesus and later sold his soul to the devil to receive his Christmas magic, because that also doesn't appear in any religious text. Simply saying the words, Nativity in Black, doesn't suddenly make it a real thing. It's not a thing. However, Black Sabbath has a good sense of humor. They embrace the stupid, made up, non existent Satanic Nativity concept and as an inside joke for their fans they named two Sabbath tribute albums, Nativity in Black.
@@avocado6394 I always have trouble choosing a bands favourite track but it has to be Black Sabbath. First album , first song. So original and very powerful.
N.I.B honestly doesn't mean anything at all. People think it means Nativity in Black, among other rumors. In reality, one of the members decided to try to grow a beard during the recording, but he just had a "nib" on his chin. Kindve an inside joke.
The title of the song refers to geezers (the bass player) facial hair that he had at time ozzy thought looks like a nib pen so it's a pretty random title
I saw this band in 71 and of my friends were in to them yet so ,I went alone. The small arena they played was sold out and the floor had fold up chairs set up like they expected everyone to just sit there and listen. That didn't work very well
Geezer wrote the lyrics for Sabbath. Iommi said , people are drawn into the dark scary stuff. Not his words exactly. They noticed how many lineup for horror flicks.
Sabbath admittedly saw an opening and took it with scary songs. Surrounded by Hippies, but not feeling the peace, love and happiness, they took their name from a creepy horror movie and cornered the market on scary songs. Worked out pretty well for them.
Lets not forget that this debut record was recorded over a weekend for $600. It has sold millions and has influenced a million bands.

Your taste is the same as mine.
Yes some also say Name In Blood in which the Devil makes pacts.
Says Butler: Originally it was Nib, which was Bill's beard. When I wrote N.I.B., I couldn't think of a title for the song, so I just called it Nib, after Bill's beard. To make it more intriguing I put punctuation marks in there to make it N.I.B.
You gotta see Zack Wylde play this song on a hello kitty acoustic guitar now
I sing this to my 3 month old daughter named Ozzy every day. Specifically “I will give you those things you thought unreal. The sun, the moon, the stars..” great song
The song is very obvious and bluntly about satan.
"Oh yeah!
Some people say my love cannot be true
Please believe me, my love, and i'll show you
I will give you those things you thought unreal
The sun, the moon, the stars all bear my seal
Oh yeah!
Follow me now and you will not regret
Leaving the life you led before we met
You are the first to have this love of
Forever with me 'till the end of time
Your love for me has just got to be real
Before you know the way i'm going to feel
I'm going to feel
I'm going to feel
Oh yeah!
Now i have you with me, under my power
Our love grows stronger now with every hour
Look into my eyes, you will see who i am
My name is lucifer, please take my hand
Oh yeah!
Follow me now and you will not regret
Leaving the life you led before we met
You are the first to have this love of mine
Forever with me 'till the end of time
Your love for me has just got to be real
Before you know the way i'm going to feel
I'm going to feel
I'm going to feel
Oh yeah!
Now I have you with me, under my power
Our love grows stronger now with every hour
Look into my eyes, you will see who i am
My name is lucifer, please take my hand"
Black Sabbath has many great songs🤘
Snowblind, Lord of this World, Supernaut, Hand of Doom, Children of the Grave....🤘🤘🤘
Ha ha .. well said
Oh,it's a Love Song...then MY NAME IS LUCIFER....always the same reaction ;)
Love watching your enjoyment out the music I grew up with back in the 70s😊 keep posting guys😁
Brad's reaction on the lucifer part, worth the price of admission :D
I love how she just kept jamming and feeling the music after the big revealing 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Chows party in that penthouse at Caesars Palace where he jumped off the balcony high on coke 😂🤣
Man if we had all the resources that we have today, back in the 60's and 70's,
Bands like this Badass group and the greatest ever in the Beatles, would be super rich!
Thanks for sharing Brad and Lex!
Brad you are like I am now,I learning the words to all the songs I grew up listening to.Lex is like I was growing up just feeling the groove and paying attention to the words
you guys are fun to watch Brad so serious analyzing every lyric and note, and Lex just vibing and grooving to the amazing feel of the music. Great song and band choice. Cheers
"Interesting Love Song", your face was priceless on the lyric "Lucifer" 😎. Great stuff.
That opening bass riff is one of the riffs that made me want to play bass. Geezer Butler was the man!
Ha , Lex diggin those guitar riffs , cool Brad , You're spot on about the love song theory .
NIB was the band members making fun of Gezzers Goatee. They said it looked like a pencil nib.
You should check out Zack Wylds “hello kitty” version. Truly magical
Yes it is😂😂
Ha! You took the words out of my mouth!
You're both very special, and I appreciate your collective existence. Thank you.
Holy moly Brad and Lex did NOT miss with these uploads today. Cheers guys. Happy holidays and thank you for all that you do
N.I.B means Nativity In Black one of my favorite song from Black Sabbath
Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Bill Ward & Geezer Butler we’re the awesome combo callled BLACK SABBATH. They are the pioneers that started Heavy Metal. And inspired many other sub-genres of Heavy Metal.
There is a version of this song with Ozzy and Primus, bass is over the top with Mr. Claypool. Can be found on Soundcloud but not here on YT (copyright stuff I think).
It's so good that it almost ruins the original.
When Lucifer tells you that youre special dont take his hand... and probably try not to look into his eyes either.
You do realise he is not real?
@@geofftottenperthcoys9944... you do realize its the subject of the song.
Better not listen you proselytizing athiest.
Neither is god or jesus-what’s your point?
glad to c u getting into the sab four so underated but so amazingly unique
The great thing about this channel is sometimes Brad gets it and Lex understands nothing and sometimes its the other way around. Really good shit.
One of the first songs I heard and loved by Black Sabbath!
Love the shirts. Kiss and Poison. Two bands that wore the same amount of makeup.
1st i listen this song i was 20..now i am 45..still to listen a more beautiful solo in a rock song..magic..these guys were pure raw rock n roll..
An excellent Black Sabbath Song, Nativity In Black or NIB, and I Love the opening Bass Line performed by bass player Geezer Butler
NIB Bill Ward had a, funky looking, goatee going on, the guys were writing, jamming, banged up, Ozzy said nice Nib you’ve got going on
I don’t know Black Sabbath’s music, but Ozzy’s voice is always recognizable! Cool song
You MUST listen to War Pigs,,,,it'll change your life. 💥💥💥😎
Nativity in black! My fav Black Sabbath song. Thanks.
I love the t-shirts. Great touch!
You really compliment each other. Lex is feelin the vibe and Brad is analysing the lyrics. And its your natural personality, nothing forced.
My sister had wrote out the lyrics to N. I. B.,, our mom found the note paper and thought that she was in a cult. LMFAO 🤘✌
jajajajaja Que honda con tu mamá, eso le pasó por meterse en las cosas de tu hermana sin su permiso.
What?
Many fans thought the title stood for "Nativity In Black" or "Name In Blood."
The bass intro is called "Bassically." It is listed as a separate song on US versions of the album.
Nib is Bill Ward.. little nibby
Hah I was waitin to see Brads reaction to "Lucifer"... and it didn't disappoint lol
"Lord of This World" is another one sung as the Devil in 1st person. The whole Master of Reality album (their 3rd) is a masterpiece.
Great choice love that song!
More sensational guitar and drum interplay thete and Izzys voice was so good Wonderful
And "Sympathy For the Devil" by the Rolling Stones.
Born Again is a great album and Ian’s voice actually fitted the old Sabbath songs better than Ronnie’s live.
Fun fact: The intro bass solo is called Bassically and was a seperate track on the US release of this album
One of the best songs of all time great music great live band and makes the deference the drummer never sold had gold albums tell dio 1980
You should listen to the remake version where Ozzy sings it with Primus. The bass intro is epic.
My favorite version is on Speak of the Devil, with Brad Gillis shredding the guitar!
You both interpreted it correctly. Subjectively and wonderfully. Thanks for another great reaction.
From Wiki: "N.I.B." is a song released by British rock band Black Sabbath. It first appeared as the fourth track on the band's 1970 debut album, Black Sabbath. The lyrics are in the first person from the point of view of Lucifer. Bassist Geezer Butler, who composed the song's lyrics, has said that "the song was about the devil falling in love and totally changing, becoming a good person."
lex your smile is what i had 40 odd years ago listening to this
This story actually happened in real life because my wife's sister had to have been seduced by the Devil because her little kid is a demon that could only have been spawned by Satan himself. The kid drives me absolutely crazy at the holiday dinners. Anyways - thanks for your reactions. I love them.
😂🤣😂🤣😂😂🤣👹👹👹👹
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
LMAO
🤣😂🤣😂😅😂🤣😂🤣
Lol lol lol lol
black sabbath is slowly stealing your soul lol and yes i was around for parents freaking out when their kids listened to it including me
I was playing this album in my bedroom at 14. My dad busted in and heard "my name is Lucifer pleas take my hand." Three weeks later I was enrolled in a Military Academy halfway across the state (Virginia). Yeah, this song brings up a lot of bad memories. In fact, it's the first time I've listened to it since that very night.
i love u guys but i;m no fan of N>I>B . However i luv me some Black Sabbath, keep it going.
The bass intro is called “Basically” and listed as a separate song on US versions of the album.
"Now i have you with me under my power" Black Sabbath has you under their power. 🎸.
Hello Brad and Lex, thank you for sharing Black Sabbath N.I.B. This song from 1970 got by me after all these years.
“My name is Lucifer, please take my hand “
Basically…… will you take this fools hand?….. because I will love you forever…….
Silly for everybody to hear lyrics, but yeah we are just saying we will take care of you and love you forever……
It's cute when they play dumb with song lyrics.
Brad always be lookin so unimpressed 😂😂😂 maybe that’s just his intensely listening face.. hahaha but y’all are cool af love the channel
LOL @ Brad @ 3:41 as the song meaning suddenly comes into sharp focus
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Black Sabbath
Spent many teenage years head banging to sabbath in the seventies . They're a brilliant band with an incredibly unique sound. Still love em
What's your best songs from them
@@avocado6394 I always have trouble choosing a bands favourite track but it has to be Black Sabbath. First album , first song. So original and very powerful.
Love your rock t shirts Lex!
Bill’s drumming👌🏼..
I stay telling little kids to listen to black sabbath lol.. man thank u guys for doing this one. It'll still be banging 100 years from now.
LUCIFER: “I swear, baby; I never felt like this with anyone before. Take my hand…”
🖤
N.I.B honestly doesn't mean anything at all. People think it means Nativity in Black, among other rumors. In reality, one of the members decided to try to grow a beard during the recording, but he just had a "nib" on his chin. Kindve an inside joke.
They didn't title this record at 1st. It referred to Bill wards beard beaing shaped like a nib.but was later titled NATIVITY IN BLACK.
That didn't work very well
Nice!!! Hope to see you guys dive further into Black Sabbath w/ Ozzy from the 70s. They have so much great music from that era.
Watch black Sabbath the End tour live it's their last time playing together in 2016 in Birmingham England where they are from
Christ, I love you two. I would love to see you dig into The Sugarcubes. Birthday, or Motorcrash, or anything else.
never really paid attention to the lyrics - just loved the riff - thanks for the breakdown - "devil's love song" - brilliant...
Geezer wrote the lyrics for Sabbath. Iommi said , people are drawn into the dark scary stuff. Not his words exactly. They noticed how many lineup for horror flicks.
If you ever had the opportunity to hear sabbath perform this live, you would never forget it
Nativity in Black. You have to listen to War Pigs and Black Sabbath (the song). I truly great love song is Changes.....another a must.
Best bass line ever!!!
Oh he DEFINITELY knows where ITS GOING!!! LOL!!! Just hit play!!!
Great period to grow up. I still have this album tucked in a box garage , while I try and downsize.
Sabbath admittedly saw an opening and took it with scary songs. Surrounded by Hippies, but not feeling the peace, love and happiness, they took their name from a creepy horror movie and cornered the market on scary songs. Worked out pretty well for them.
