Lex hit the nail on the head. Yes Kiss is one of the greats. A truly iconic band. Hard to argue against a band that has been around for 50 + years. Enduring and sometimes thriving through the public's changing tastes in music whether it be disco, glam, hair metal, heavy metal, hard rock, or even progressive rock ("Music from the Elder" ...can't win them all.) But to truly experience the majesty of Kiss is to see them live. They put on shows like no other and have so throughout their history. Sadly time is catching up and now the best way to experience their love shows is videos on UA-cam. You should check them out when you get the chance.

Brad & Lex, this was another one where you've got to do the actual video & see them. KISS really needs to be seen, not just heard. That's a BIG part of the whole experience. And the lyrics of this song are so easy to understand that you can understand them without a lyric video. So don't deprive yourself!! Go & watch them!! 😀🤘🎸🎵🎶

Back in the 70s, they sold out coliseums on day 1. Their albums and 8-tracks flew off the shelves. They might have been the first to paint their faces, use on-stage fire, explosions, and platforms with elevation. They were even hotter in concert.

So that you understand the context, disco was wildly popular at this time. So rock acts were trying to take advantage of the craze by adding some heavy bass dance beats to their own songs. The Rolling Stones, Rod Stewart etc did the same thing. A lot of hardcore rock fans hated these acts for doing this.

This song came out in '79 as the disco era was coming to it's abrupt end. In this era, many rock artists like The Grateful Dead (Shakedown Street), Rod Stewart (Do You Think I'm Sexy), and Rolling Stones (Miss You) were making token songs that were heavily disco based. This happened to be Kiss' "disco song".

Formed in 1973, KISS was one of most popular bands of the 1970s and are still out there winding down their final tour. They kept their faces hidden behind makeup. No one knew what they look like until mid-late 1980s. Their 1996 reunion tour of all 4 of the original members (Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss) grossed $143.7 million. Known for having one of the greatest stage shows in all of rock. One the most successfully bands of all-time.

This song came out at the height of disco. This song is often referred to as 'Kissco'. In their later live shows, they play it a little different so it sounds more rock and less disco. They once said in an interview that they did the face painting for attention and effect because at the time they were starting out, the biggest hit maker in the US was John Denver. They wanted to make a HUGE splash, and I'd say they succeeded.

Paul Stanley has stated that he was a big fan of Studio 54, and he used to go there, without makeup, and dance. one night he left there went to his studio, set a drum machine to 124 beats per minute, and decided to write a "disco" song. and that's how this song came about.

DISCO KISSCO!!! People hate on it. But I love this song. Guilty pleasure. There. I said it. You guys nailed it. To me, KISS represents mainstream 70's Rock and Roll. They're not going to wow you with their musical virtuosity. But they know their strengths and they capitalize on their strengths consistently. They were masters at marketing and self promotion. They made bold claims saying they would put on the best show you've ever seen in concert. And in many ways, they lived up to it. They recognized they owed much of their success to their fans and they toured tirelessly for decades to get in front of as many of their fans as possible in a live setting. As a little kid, like 7 or 8 years old, the first live double album I ever purchased was KISS Alive! They had their struggles with staying together as Peter Criss and Ace Frehley both left and were replaced but Gene and Paul stayed with it and I think they earned their nickname "The Hardest Working Band In The Land." They lived the "Rock Star" life of excess and that led to Peter's departure. But they always put on a hell of a show, night after night.

Just keep in mind Kiss have at least 40 albums in their catalog, lots of good stuff to explore! All of the suggestions from everybody here is pretty spot on, pick any song from their catalog and you can see how they have evolved over the years. Lots of history. My all time favorites from them are as followed, their self titled album Kiss, Kiss Alive 1, Kiss Alive II, Kiss Alive III, Kiss Double Platinum, Kiss Destroyer, Kiss Rock 'n Rollover, Kiss Love Gun, Their Solo albums, and Creatures Of The Night. Their entire catalog is musically different but excellent. Seeing their live performances is something not to be missed, you won't regret it.

In Paul Stanleys Book, (Paul Stanley is the singer on this song, Gene Simons who has a heavier voice sings on others, like the song 'I Love It Loud' ) Paul said in the late seventies a lot of the time he would take off the make up and go to clubs, He was listening to the music and the beats and thought, I should right a fun dance song... It is not KISS's normal sound but it still sounds like KISS if that makes any sense. Very popular song, and has a great catchy groove.

Been a KISS fan since '76. It amazes me how many reviewers do I Was Made For Loving You. The song is far from the band's best effort.......I agree with others that to really "get" the band, you need to see them perform live (video of course) whether with makeup or not.........I suggest for early years check out 100,000 Years or Strutter........ For years after this song, try Creatures Of The Night, I Still Love You, A Million To One.......I also suggest, from Paul Stanley's 1978 solo album Take Me Away (Together As One), or Tonight You Belong To Me.

But I have been a fan since 6th grade. When I was young(er) KISS would play a mini concert while traveling on the back of a flat bed truck to promote a show at a nearby arena. Many other rock acts did the same thing in the late 70's. This song was on the Dynasty album which really had some great traditional KISS songs on it. Ace had three awesome songs on it. He covered The Rolling Stones song 2000 Man and his other two songs Hard Times and Save Your Love to me were the best songs on Dynasty.

I feel like KISS is either loved or hated. Lots of people hate them for some unknown reason but these guys have a great total package, like Lex said. The album Double Platinum, an early greatest hits, is absolutely fantastic.

Paul Stanley wrote this song to prove a point. Anybody could write disco and get a hit song. Kiss wanted to expand their fan base. Granted, they lost fans over this song, but, it was a crossover hit for them. 🤘🤘🤘

@@pauljansen1137 born in '71. My mum was 13 when Beatlemania started. So I was brought up with the 60s rock n roll, 70s glam rock. My dad brought the country n western theme. My older sister was a punk and brought me and my younger brother along fir the ride. Then I discovered Iron Maiden and that was it. Heavy Metal and Hard Rock are my first loves but there is also classical, classic rock, blues, the 80s in general and all listed before. Good music, no matter what genre, transcends all boundaries. I'm glad to have been exposed to so many great bands/artists/songs and albums.

Its funny Lex said one of the greatest bands of all time because thats similar to their intros when doing live shows. The announcer says "The hottest band in the world, KISS!" at least they did on the alive II album and when i saw them in concert as a stagehand. They put on a great show BTW! I met Paul Stanley at that show, contrary to popular opinion ,I thought he was real nice!
