Slept in a van with a tent like this for 3 weeks on a road trip, two tips: Bring what you need into the tent so you don't have to keep climbing in and out in public which is a pain, and park somewhere that might have shade in the morning so you dont wake up in an oven lol
Haha some shade would have been nice on its first outing
When I’ve gone camping before. “The oven” is the only thing that got me out of bed in a morning.
Tow a car to the track, sleep over, tow the car back. Smart move, looks good mate.

Oh yeah, tentbox is pretty cool too! Had a quick google because i thought to myself, i wouldn't mind one of those for cheap tours around scotland and to the 'ring if we're ever allowed to leave the country again. They aint cheap at all but would pay for themselves pretty quickly i suppose.

Hey Danny.👋 Large and in charge indeed. That tentbox is pretty damn nice. Makes perfect sense to me to get to the track the day before the event so you're not rushed and worn out before the race. Some will complain about the price, but after a couple of seasons of use, it'll probably pay for itself in hotel fees alone (assuming it holds up). It looks sturdy enough. With a 10% discount and bonus doggo chew toy, what's not to love? Ed was holding back a bit, but I think he was impressed.😅 Good vid, Dan. The classic rock hit the spot in this one. I bought a roof tent this year too, also for weekend Rallys. It's so relaxing to sleep next to your car during the races.
Too right. That was a good feeling. Obviously it can be done on the floor too but there’s something nice about not being down there

As you’ve stated the whole arriving the night before bit really improves the experience and ensures you’re in less of a rush for when the days driving commences (showers at most these circuits are good too👍🏼)

Love it 🤣 roof tent all the way unless you have something big enough to get a double air bed in the back. On another note, if you want an old renault trafic van as a project camper I know of one going cheap because space is needed…..
No thanks, already turned down a Traffic recently. The 5 series will take a double air bed no problem but I like to keep stuff in it lol

I'd glue a piece of pool noodle cut in 1/2 on the rear lip where the trunk may hit it in case it moved from use over time.
Might save you from braking the rear glass or scratching the hatch/spoiler and provide a soft padding to rest the hatch on.
Sounds a bit intense I don't think you've gathered how rough this car is but I will keep an eye out for it moving

I got me roof box on my bmw series2 gran tourer I never see before them tent box good idea 👍🏻
A little tip: if your roof bars are whisteling, put a strap around them, just on the front one. Solves the problem right away!

Can you sit comfortably in this? I’m looking at the Tentbox range and this one looks best for convenience/ease of erecting but doesn’t seem to have as much headroom which might be annoying in the longer term and make things like getting changed a pain.

Vans are great, I had a high roof AWD Transit just to carry my MX bike, I had to sell it though as neighbours kept complaining that it blocked out all the light ☹️

@@dannyDC2 Kind of, but also I live in that there London Village so we have ULEZ bullshit incoming, and it's all terraced houses with no where to park (inconvenient for someone with four cars), so it was a bit of a nightmare. I need to move to the countryside 🤔
There is a roof rack limit of 80kgs (~175pounds) for mostly all wagons. I would not dare to put much more above that limit.

Now then Dan! I think they're a great idea and staying at circuits makes for a lot less stress in my experience. Saves a fair few quid in hotel costs too. If I wasn't such a fat fucker I might have got myself one!

What do you normally do mate? I bought a ford mondeo diesel for all the miles and have slept in that or trusty travelodge etc, however that looks interesting!
Normally just get up early and do it all in a day but it’s hard work at towing speeds lol
