- After my bad experience sleeping in the car in Hawaii, I made some modifications to my car sleeping setup. Security is a concern so one of the requirements is to only leave a 1/4" crack or less in all windows. Another is to not allow the windows to fog up so that no one will suspect there is someone inside. I have added a few personal touches to make it very stealthy. It's so good that no one will ever suspect some one is sleeping inside!

Toyota Prius camping is a thing. You can run the AC off of the battery and the seats fold down to make a 6 foot bed. And, there is a tent expander on the market that works with the hatchback.
The vent in the back of the BMW (and all other cars) is there for when the airbags deploy to expel the pressure so your eardrums don't burst.

No fog in my setup due to the fan expelling CO2.
Prius allows you to have temp control all night. Engine turns on automatically as needed to maintain a comfortable temperature.
Cheapest car to run heater/air conditioner on all night.

Okay... I need a better label next time. No one will carry used toilet supplies I think. The box itself might be too nice. I will come up with something better next time.

I can just imagine a police officer walking by, saying whats this, a large amazon box in a car, wait 2 boxes in a car joined together, and all of the windows slightly open, seems like a body could fit in that space, and since the windows are open hears the breathing and snoring from inside. Then they shine a torch and see the "Donate" written on the box, ohhh, the contents of the boxes have been marked for a donation, and therefore cannot possibly be any expensive items hidden inside there let alone a person sleeping inside of there. then they walk away and BTB's masterplan has been a success.
I slept so soundly that I did not notice anyone check the car or walk near it. So I cannot say it was able to fool anyone just yet.
maybe add a extended snorkel out the window for some fresh air
And a periscope to check when the coast is clear to jump out without any pants on?

The emergency pull handle (only to be used when locked in trunk) glows in the dark... who would know that with out this video!!! excellent piece of information.

@@BeatTheBush I sort of got that you were serious near the end of the video, but it sort of reminded me of the video you did on minimalism in your empty apartment (no toilet paper, just use your hands, etc., thought it was hilarious in light of all the minimalism videos on youtube), so thought it was a parody on the RV/stealth camping craze because I could NEVER sleep in the box as ingenious as it is, Always love your videos whether they are funny or not. :)

Prepare for dehydration. You might oversleep, anything. Have water available. It is critical. And not one small bottle. A gallon or a 6 pack.

I see alot of people sleep and stay in there storage unit its cheaper than renting here in ca ive seen they put alot of boxes in front to give u illusion of full storage but inside they have a bed how about trying that?
Hmmm... last storage I saw was a sauna in there with no AC, not usable electricity.
BeatTheBush theres outlets that they plug long extension cords to on the outside of storages im sure its for maintenance use but some managers look the other way

I'm glad you laughed! Although I didn't intend this to be a comedy piece. Sort of like how to dress poor video was hilarious to many. Well... I did get a few referrals on Airbnb so I was able to use that to stay at the last place in my video.

yeah see... if you can do it comfortably. It's not good to do it too long as I really did not enjoy it that much because it was not the most comfortable.
This is absolutely stealthy
During college, I slept in my car during the day due to a schedule of very early and quite late classes. I did sleep through a bomb scare and a campus evacuation. Note after 50 F the temps got too high for not having the windows pretty open during the day.
Only 50F is too high already? Well.. it works if you sleep when the sun goes down. So no green house effect.

At one point i was so broke i actually did this LOL, except my windows are super dark i just put on the sunshade, turn on a usb powered fan connected to a powerbank, take the back seat off, lay it on the trunk and its actually a pretty spacious bed can even sit up to 3 persons haha

Prius is one of the best cars to stealth camp in. You can run the A/C and heat overnight. Nissan Leaf is good for that too.

Pretty funny. I have an out/back trip scheduled to pick up a puppy and with COVID, I'm planning to do something similar. I will put sun screens in front/rear windows and I have kid sun screens for the back windows that will inhibit viewing. I like the idea of boxes, so I may take up the entire back seat with it boxed out.

My solution to sleeping in a car. Tint the front windows and top of the windshield. Get a black curtain behind the front seats in 2 pieces so you can peak through and slip into the drivers seat to drive away. Spray paint the rear windows with black plasti-dip. Fold down both rear seats and use a thin sleeping mat. As for airflow a strong fan at the rear vent and running the ac fan with outside air will replace all the air in the car fast.
Front window tinting is illegal in California and some police may make you peel it off on the spot. Curtain is too obvious someone is sleeping back there.

If it was a personal car, just limo tent the back windows and put up some custom window shades. Install window rain blockers and open up the windows a little bit more.

Some good ideas here. I’m planning a cross country road trip in my Model 3 so may do this.
Model 3... has climate control so you're really good there. But it'll be hard for you to go long without charging stations. I wonder how it will do in the 118F weather I went through with this car.
Lol man I did sleep int the boot of an SUV with the back seat down a couple times but this is another level
Tip: cut the edges and tape them, so that you can break the box apart of needed in an emergency.
The box was cut in various ways that would've allowed easy breaking.
Why did you go through all of this trouble?
I wanted to sleep in the car but needed a way to make it work. The first try was in Hawaii so I knew what I had to change to make it work. Perhaps I may have a version 3.0 later.

I also know a guy here in Canada slept in his car in January. Temps got to -15C. And that guys still alive to this day. He was too cheap to get a hotel or an airbnb lol

According to another commenter, it sounds like you're selling this car or returning it, not sure. If it was yours to keep, I'd get those sun shade things that go on the outside that go around the tops of the windows. That way you can bring the windows down a bit more without people being able to see that they are cracked down. Also, maybe a solar fan or something may help as well, but obviously, not at night. However, a solar array might work in the day time to charge that battery pack.

Jesus Christ Man! Hawaii Just rent a hotel... Or invest a little money in a tent.... If you can afford hawaii, you can afford this..... Plus, people are going to think your car is abandon and might get curious with the car btw, Dead Body? Free Stuff?. Esp if you are in a non camping park.
I live in Hawaii, been paying 4 grand a mo now looking to car camp or glamp. I have all the equipment. Just don't know how safe I'd be or where I can be for a few months to save for another place. Can't rent & save for another 😢 scared 😬 but

@@BeatTheBush Most of the time any car is a liability rather than an investment. A van however brings more options to save and earn. Try auctions or debtcollectors, maybe? Or buy when taxes are due, or at other times when people may need some cash fast. Often they are cheaper the weirder their color.

Part necessity so that I can go where I want when I want while saving money at the same time. Then, I can buy what I want instead of a bed that I value very little. I'll have a video on what I spend ridiculous money on later during this same trip.

Years later, I reflect on this craziness I did and realize that it's not very comfortable to sleep in the car! And possibly dangerous if someone wants to rob me.
Should of camp in Tesla Model X or S. Really good for sleeping but just too expensive

The fan worked but the 90F night temp really makes it bad. Perhaps if I had more fans blowing on my body while I sleep I can do it.

Station wagons and minivans are the best for this kind of things! I did a roadtrip when I was owning a Volvo v50 (I put some dark windows tints before the trip) and did save a lot of money on hotels! But sometimes it's great to sleep in a actual bed, so the best is to do both on a long roadtrip

But after sleeping in a hot car all night, where do you shower in the morning? LOL I'd feel like sweaty balls after that night with no shower.
Wasn't hot at night at all. Or else I wouldn't be able to sleep.
This is only needed if worse case were to happen, no job, no savings, no family/friends to sleep over to, no skills, no passive incomes, no purpose to live, sacrifice comfortable living to save money or for camping purposes only as mentioned for the video. I will say props with the setup, I think it is well thought out and may have to try it one day!
I actually made it as comfortable as possible and had good enough sleep that I can fully function the next day. This is a game changer.
I could tell, The fan changes the comfort. The only thing I would of changed would be an extra box on the passenger seat to make it a little less obvious.

Clearly an oxymoron just right there. The car lease costs a lot more so why wouldn't the guy pay for a place to stay then? So you would suspect a person sleeping in one even less.

Hello there! I just spoke today with bmw dealer and i was asking about...tape measure. He looked at me and-ok no worries. I was asking him do you have any idea why I measure distance internal from the boot to the back of front seat? (fully slide to the front) Didn't expect what I told him hahaha ;) And yes for anyone who think about that. It's almost exactly 180cm. Because I'm tall 174cm, so...happy days! Sleeping pad, sleeping back or blanket and on longer trips I can fully stretch and sleep. BUT- only one thing I will need create. Don't know how but need look on some another cars.Full up gap between front seat and folded back seat to create full straight surface. Greetings from UK, Tom.
