Finally ! An honest review of this watch 👍. I agree, too high a price for this movement and the QC issues. And the short hands jump out at me every time I see it, all three hands are too short, almost like they were a “parts bin” handset and not made for this watch.
I like Spinnaker watches. But, every time I am thinking about pulling the trigger on one. I am reminded that there are better options out there.
This comment should be highlighted. These are way too expensive for what you get.
This is the way I feel about both spinnaker and Orient , I've been tempted then always talk myself out of them.
I've received the Bradner 10 days ago, and have spent a full week with it. It's outsanding in person, but lume is sub-par if like me you expect it to ba as good as the SKX.
That Cahill looks cheap though. I'd be tempted to compare it to some higher(ish)-end Vostok.
@@saintdave1877 Orient Ray 2 is curently the cheapest real dive watch. You can get one from eBay for around 150$.
@@user-ue4nq3kc3j it's not the price that stops me , it's just something that I always talk myself out of..last time I bought a Seiko baby monster instead , Theres just something about both these brands that makes me hesitate.maybe just not being able to see either in the flesh..don't really know exactly.
The micro brand diver watch market between $200 and $500 is extremely competitive, especially if you also consider slightly or unused versions of recent releases. It doesn't allow much room for error by the manufacturers and this one doesn't seem to offer good relative value. However, the problem I have with all my watche purchases is that I cannot see them before I buy. So, I rely heavily on honest reviews like this to steer me in the right direction. Thanks!

Totally agree with your pros and cons. Some of the cons seem so obvious, it begs the question "how could they not know this". That crown being the major whoops!

I have the V1 Cahill Midsize, it has a NH35, not sure why they changed it. Also hands went full Merc, like old handes better. However V1 had no lume on bezel, so thats an upgrade.

I agree, a few problems with this watch. The crown, especially without guards, looks too large. The hands are also too narrow, and I don't like the Mercedes head on the hour hand. The deal breaker is the name on the case side--no idea why it's ever even considered by any brand. The price isn't terrible, but I expect better for it. Great review, keep it up...hi to Mr. Bond!

is there better options? I can think of Tisell, Mathey Tissot and many other Seiko watches (5 series)...etc
Most of things that you have pointed out, they are all obvious things. I just wonder what Spinnaker was thinking when they designed and made this watch.

For only a 150 dollars more , a Steinhart 39mm blows the doors off this watch in every category . Elabore grade eta2824 , ceramic bezel , sapphire , excellent bracelet . literally everything.
I like a serial number on the side like a Stowa Classic, but agree about the brand name.
The hands look wrong on it , if they used either the ones they used with the kind of rectangle near the end or a Tudor type set of hands it would look much better in my opinion. Nice dial and bezel.
Nice watch but l prefer bigger ones. 45 mm diameter or even more. And it should be thinner in my opinion. The overall look is OK.👍
Not loving the Spinnaker on the side either, I guess the reason is the watch is a part homage to the Blancpain fifty fathoms (bezel is the same), and some versions have Blancpain on the side of the case. Wish brands just stuck to being original, have the same feeling for the Rolex hands. I would rather have normal sword or pretty much any hands, the only watch I want Rolex hands on is ummm a Rolex. Great vid keep it up!

Spinnaker is an odd company, their pricing is all over the place, The crown wouldn't bother me much since I'm left handed. I have a Dumas which they use a Seiko NH36 with a decent (to me) mesh bracelet had a coupon code so paid just over $300.00 I happen to like it. And also got a Spence which was like $175 with the same code and has a NH35 movement. As I said they're all over the place, some good stuff and deals, both wear well and are hackable. I think in the same micro arena, Boldr has some nice stuff good support and took a cancelation on a back order and an apology and a discount credit for $50 which I used for a Journey Sopwith meca-quartz chronograph, ended up costing like $100.00 hasn't come yet. BTW, like your dog.

I own this watch and I cannot, for the life of me, find any misalignment. Maybe the unit you received has it (which is one unit too many), but I don’t know that it is something that happens on many, or most units.
I agree with you about the crown: it’s too “long”.
There is always going to be “better” options, but at the end of the day, what is “better”? The watch you want, or that other one which hands are .4 mm longer? Or the one that has a bezel that is somewhat easier to turn under water, with gloves on, when the owner knows that the watch will never be anywhere near a body of water? I am aware that some movements are better than others, but I think that a lot of features are personal preferences rather than “faults” from a manufacturer.
Name on the side of the case: I know what you mean, and I fully understand where people are coming from when they say they don’t like it, but to look at this feature realistically: I don’t remember seeing what’s on the side of any of my watches while checking what time it was 😊 So again, it depends on why one buys the watch: functionality and/or overall looks, or to look at it from every angle all day long. None of those is “wrong”, it just depends on the buyer.
You forgot to mention that one advantage of this movement is that if, at any point, you no longer want the watch, you can give it to a toddler, who will in turn be able to use it as a rattle 😂
Hey Martin.I got unlucky with the misaligned bezel. I don't think it s bad watch. Just a few easy fixes could make it better:) Enjoy your Spinnaker and don't let toddlers play with it 😂

Miyota 8215 ? When I see that a company uses this movement in some of their models it makes me not want to buy anything from them.
Can You tell me why? I have this movement in one of my Citizen watch and I'm happy with his work.

I know that the 8215 was non-hacking but I thought that Miyota updated it to include hacking. Are watch companies like Spinnaker using NOS?
The 8215, 8205 and 8N24 were not updated. The other 8 series movements now have hacking.

@@NathanChisholm041 My comment was from a microbrand perspective. They are sending out free watches not out of the goodness of their hearts, but because they consider it social media advertising. You and I and most people understand that and take everything said with a grain of salt. Still I will admit that I was introduced to some brands 1st through youtubers and their positive reviews for brands such as Zelos and Lorier spurred me to investigate further and ultimately purchase. Sorry for the lengthy reply.

The hand length has never bothered me.
This watch definitely has some shortcomings. At this point there is no reason not to have a hacking movement at this price. The crown is too wide and really does not match the case. Finally, they could of used any other hands, not a fan of Mercedes hands.
Spinnaker has a nicer model called the Fleus. Its a little larger, has the NH35, and a nicer design in my opinion. It also comes on a bracelet.

You wouldn't get that red mark on yourself from the crown if you didn't wear that bad boy on your hand. But i don't know about this one Dimitry, not a fan of the dial or case engraving.

As you said spinnaker makes much better watches than this one. This one has an ugly crown, too large, only one micro-adjustment between the two holes is a bad design. With a super cheap movement, I would price this about 100 dollars if even that. There are better Chinese specials for a lot less. hate to be so negative but it's the truth.
