I don't mind Panerai making a crazy piece with new tech once in a while. The ceramic/titanium combo looks amazing. Wish they would make a scaled down version. Seems like the new submersibles will have this coating. What Panerai owners want is high quality, good value base models with more time spent on dials, textures, actual quality straps and 300m wr or more on all pieces.
@@ams914 the rubber straps are good, I am even wearing one right now. However their textile and leather straps are way worse than the third party strap options. You can't charge 8k usd and then deliver a leather strap that you can find a complete equivalent to on a 800usd watch. Especially when third party offerings for 100-200 usd are amazing by comparison. Don't even get me started on their textile straps...
I agree, however on the base models the only thing I would add is a sandwich dial. Straps are brilliant especially rubber which is more comfortable than the leather until it softens.

They added this technology to the watch. What about the price? There's people out there that buy Richard Mille watches sometimes worth millions, i don't think that a 100k Euros Panerai watch is a problem for rich people out there. The obsession with in-house movements, and the bragging rights that go with them, is the worst thing to happen to the industry since the quartz crisis.
I’ve had a aquis and the bracelet screws came off all the time. The crown screwed open from it self… never had so much issue with other brands for less money. Was I alone with that ?
The main problem is Oris releasing existing watches with an improved movement. I love the calibre 400, Oris as a brand and the technology Oris has created. But Oris is still a brand that loses value hard on the secondary market. Why would I pay 3700€ for a new calibre Aquis when I can get a watch that looks nearly identical with an ETA movement in as good as new condition on the used market for around 1100€? I often see calibre 400 watches sold at AD's or webshops with huge discounts, which I interpret as the profit margin on these pieces being really high. I am sure Oris has a strategy for where they want to position their brand and I don't have any data to back up my claim. But I think they would sell higher volumes of watches if they were more modestly priced. I've been longing for a 38mm diver65 ever since the cotton candy and hodinkee LE, but I will wait until I can pick one up on the used market. Offtopic: What size of the campus are you wearing in the video? :)

8800 and 8900 movements not the same, latter has two barrels. Paneristis didnt complain about reduced diameter but joke water resistance on luminors, being traditionally dive watches.
Man those Omega Aquaterra's with the deep black lacquered dial look so fuckin good , absolute perfection ! I've always loved the aqua terra design language but hated the horizontal pattern on the dial with passion , glad there's an all black option with no dial pattern as it's my favourite colour anyways .
Panerai is going downwards. This new piece has no significance at all. If they could sell classic Luminor and Radiomir with good quality and decent prices, that would be great. I don’t really care about the Submersible and Luminor Due lines. They can do whatever they want with those products. What is awful is the fact that they have worsened their classic pieces and started to charge unreal prices. 1. No cosc certification. 2. Big wooden boxes have been replaced for small cardboard boxes. 3. They have worsened some of their calibers to reduce costs. 4. No decorated movements or sapphire caseback in the entry-level and mid-range models. 5. They dramatically increased prices. 6. They ignore their old customer base, so they can chase millionaire customers. They have lost many positions in the revenue ranking of luxury watches. Morgan Stanley said the watches market will face challenges in the near future. And Richemont keeps raising prices at each trimester. I don’t get their logics.

Some companies have been doing really well, such as Cartier and Longines. Cartier is also a Richemont brand and has also raised prices. However, they have kept the same quality standard, what Panerai has not.
This Panerai is very cool. But outside of this unobtainable concept watch, they have lost the script to a baffling degree. Too bad. The brand has so much potential and insists on realizing none of it.
A simple no second hand, no date simple based Panerai Luminor is over 7K retail. Just too expense when comparing to brands like Rolex and Omega. Assuming you can get Rolex at retail. That's another story itself.
With 95K Panerai is crossing the holy trinity and even for guys who can buy it will be foolish to pay this amount for which you can easily buy holy trinity watches

I think you are right. I have a standard Aquis and can't justify the higher cost for the extra power reserve. And I do really like my Aquis.

If i recall correctly, 8900 caliber is also a jump hour so it gives up the quickset date function
