Miraak's tomb sure did have a claw wall. But since he betrayed the dragons and killed quite a few of them, its likely that after he was defeated by Vahlok the Jailer, the claw to the door was likely found, and either buried far away, or thrown into the sea to add insult to injury. And since Miraak was mind-controlling people and had them rebuilding his temple, he had his thralls break the door down.
I thought similar except the dragon loyalists likely simply smashed the door apart when laying seige to Miraak's temple, which also accounts for how damaged the place is.
When you travel to Dead Men's Respite for the Bard's College to collect the lost Verse of Svaknir's part in the Poetic Edda, you have to kill the undead King Olaf, who has the shape of a Draugr now. And, when facing him to kill him, you can clearly see, that Olaf One-Eye has two beautiful sky-blue eyes - I mean - TWO eyes. So why Olaf One-Eye????
Although I like the idea of Miraak getting frustrated and annoyed at a Claw door, I can't see why he'd damage it and at least not make anyone repair it. My theory is that someone else destroyed it - perhaps Vahlok the Jailor when he and Miraak fought. After all, the Black Book that houses Miraak is located further inside, and why would he want a defense mechanism that protects that to be destroyed - even if by his own hand? Also, we know that the Temple was Miraak's right? So, why wouldn't he have the Claw that goes with the door? I can understand him destroying the door if he didn't have the matching claw, but he should have it and know how the door works; right?
Doesn't "amongst the draugr" contradict "death of a wanderer"? In one book the draugr are intelligent, cleaning up and repairing the tombs, in the other they bump against walls and ignored a bleeding body among them?
It’s likely that Death of a Wanderer is over exaggerating a bit, and it’s also possible that the draugr are largely on autopilot when doing their routines
Embalming tools are often laying about in those tombs. I wonder if these tools are what are necessary to create the Draugr. They don't appear to be your atypical "zombie". Their bodies seem more purposefully mummified, and at the same time, not completely dried out. After all, some can use the voice. This also explains who has been keeping the fires going in the tombs.
I once found a draugr on his knees in a tomb, I undid my armor and said "well if you insist" but it appears he didn't like what he saw.... I don't want to talk about it.

Theory on the difference between Solstheim and Skyrim draugr: the 'servant' draugr came first, created by the Dragon Cult. The Skaal found the practice abominable, given their respect for nature and natural processes. Then, when Miraak and Vahlok the Jailer had their titanic battle that supposedly broke Solstheim off from the mainland, the Skaal tribesmen took shelter from the carnage in the tombs. Some of the crypts ended up buried due to all the landscape-altering fighting, and the now trapped Skaal resorted to cannibalism. This is why the All-Maker made them into draugr: he turned them into the same abominations they had once feared.
Yeah. Their stories start off with a shout that sends you flying and leaves you prone. Then when you start to stand up they MDK you into the ground before you can defend yourself. :D
First time in Skyrim, I didnt know where to find the Codes for the doors, so I activated historian mode and tried to analyse the reliefs on the walls XD

Regarding the Nords all being sealed alive in the tombs, it seems likely that this was the punishment meted out to the supporters of Miraak after he lost to the Guardian. Also, because his temple was laid siege to, it seems just as likely that Vahlok the Jailor was the one who Shouted down the dragon claw door Miraak thougbt to protect himself behind.

@@recklessabandon5678 TLDR: I go super detailed about a tiny detail. Draugr often use frost magic, and are weak to fire damage. I don't think many of them use fire spells. Also, only certain stones can be struck together to make a spark that has the potential to create a flame. This includes the famous flint and steel (or steel on steel, if you're desperate, strong, and skilled), but even these combinations need dexterity to strike properly, as well as proper fuel that catches easily (often dry grass or other long, thin materials).
@@jameshubbell2000 No, Draugrs arent weak to fire damage, they are resistent to frost because they are nords and immune to posion because they are undead. Exist only 3 enemies with some weak, the 2 Trolls and Vampire. You can check the wiki if dont believe in me. But yes, no draugr uses fire magic

Fun fact: You can actually get both of the Red Eagle weapons if you find the key weapon in the wild, complete the quest to get Red Eagle's Bane, then find "The Legend of Red Eagle", forcing the key weapon to respawn and officially starting the quest. Simply take the key, place it in the slot to open the tomb completing the quest, and remove the key as it is. Red Eagle doesn't respawn himself so the weapon never changes and you get to keep it AND Red Eagle's Bane.
That could be cool, but you'd still not be a Reachman, so it wouldn't make sense with his lore for him to help you or respond to you in any way positively.
What you should be able to do, is if you're a Breton, you have a chance to join the Forsworn. Like, PROPERLY. And the end-quest is to revive Red Eagle.
@@Alizudo That's honestly what I hoped would happen, some cool story event, but in the end it was just another generic end-dungeon boss with a different name. Honestly one of the biggest let-downs of this game's quests, imho.

The Draugr may have been learning Dovahzul (and the Thu'um) from their dragon overlords, while wearing Raycons. Otherwise, how the hell would they annoy us with their regular shouts?
You can actually become a Draugr in Skyrim, sort of. There is a draugr spell, that you can get by a glitch while exploring some ruins. This spell don't do much, it's just make your eyes glow blue. And it's can be removed only by a console command. It's probably some unfinished or just cut content, may be it could some thing like vampire disease.
Draugr is an old scandinavian word for "drowned" it also became synonymus with the "Undead" "Vengefull dead" and "Dishonored Dead" in scandinavian mythos. I suspect the reason for why both the Skyrim and Skaal are both called Draugr is most likely because they are "The Dishonorable Dead" among the Skaal due to cannibalism, and in Skyrim because during and after the revolt against the dragons i doubt most nords looked favorably upon the dragon cult. As for Apperance, Mummification and Dessication are quite similar in apperance on a human body.
On the topic of Red Eagle, I had a quite a surprise in my fight with him. The Red Eagle was a dragon priest! Possibly because I was at a high level, playing on Legendary difficultly. This makes no sense to me... maybe Red Eagle was meant to be the strongest undead opponent possible?

Its interesting since the loading screen says that are punished in this form because they were ALL apart of the dragon cults. But Potema uses her old followers to fight you in solitude. They were also Draugr. Also, idk if this was just a game mistake (deliberate or accident) but they all use 3rd age imperial currency. In oblivion (im probably wrong on this) the Ayleid zombies had there old money. Most tombs are very ancient but some were placed their in the 3rd age with draugr. And then theres that one place with ghosts instead of Draugr (the last tomb in the companions questline).
One of the dragon claws (the amethyst claw for one of Solstheim's barrows) is split in half and has no symbols on it. Your companion for that quest has to read the wall carvings to find it for you.

That "One-Eye" isn't referring to his ocular orbs... 😸
Probably because he had one eye when he was alive. Then in the afterlife you get back whatever body parts you lost or were missing while alive.
They say Miraak murdered the High Door, with his voice! Shouted him apart!
100% agree

I did exactly the same thing, analyzed the carvings on the walls, and then I read a book that said the claw was the answer and I solved it. I just got into Skyrim and MAN IVE BEEN MISSING OUT SO MUCH
@@patricioaroncastrillonross8372 welcome to the party, pal.
Dude, same. Weirdly, I got it right.
Just when i think i know everything about this damned game.
The lore of The Elder Scrolls is so deep, it takes a long time to fully grasp it, and then there's always C0DA and the Imperial Library if you want to believe in that. Either way, TES is gorgeous when it comes to world depth, nothing comes close to it.
Yep lol
I started studying ES as soon as I was introduced to it. Most of it was searing the web since not all of the game's lore is in the game.
@@AerYdmyg I mean technically you don't have to search the web. Becausenost of the lore is found in other games. That's how it gets on wikipedia and other fan wikis. But I did this same man its I intriguing.

Up next, Skyrim: 5 things you NEVER knew about goats
Nate out here looking like a model!!! While I'm out here looking homeless because of the quarantine.
@Fui Gebhardt1 there's no time to be homeless lol
Y did u comment twice
Thank you nate...you always make me think a little more about skyrim things I've never thought of and ive been playing for like 3 and a half years
"This wasn't based off of some famous figure or something, no, it only represents the most common depiction of a NORD NEREVARINE" okay Nate
I'm 100% certain that it's just Shor.
The DESIGN may be from Morrowind, but lorewise, its clearly supposed to be Shor; Nord God of the Afterlife and King of their Gods. There's literally NO other figure who would have a reason to be on *_every single tomb._*
I like that Nords build tombs for their enemies and give them proper burials if they die well. Really shows off their honorbound nature
Nate, just wanted to let you know that I appreciate the content. These videos have made me refall in love with Skyrim and the Fallout series. I know myself and many others eagerly anticipate each of your videos. Keep up the great work!
The red eagle for some reason is the book and lore I always read when I do a play through. I don’t know why, but every now and then in between doing everything I can to ignore the world’s lore, I’ll read through a book to understand the sub boss’s I fight in tombs. It helps to make it more immersive. It’s so fun knowing the name of the boss before I fight them.
Here's a fun fact, they scare me.
Even as a level 90 I still have a little bit of anxiety going into crypts

The dragon claw doors are also only able to be opened with one specific dragon claw, so having the combination on the key isn't a bad idea
Red Eagle can spawn as Dragon Priest if your high in level when you get the objective.
Who else would listen to Nate just read Skyrim books in videos maybe he could make it into a series or something.. just me? Ok
There is a UA-camr who does that
Why you can't read?
Wait so Red Eagle was a briarheart capable of using a small number of shouts?!? No wonder it took so many imperials to stop him. I have a new found respect for red eagle.

Man I keep coming back to your channel man. First watched you back when fallout 4 came out but I still enjoy everything you do, and some times put on your videos when I’m v stressed. Keep it up bro
Well the first detail explains a lot. I've always noticed that all most all the candles and fireplaces are always lit in the game. That never made sense to me. Now I know the Draugr's are taking care of the place. Thank's Nate.
Finally, an explanation for why the candles, torches, and braziers are lit! Now, where are they getting their fuel and firelighters?
Fire magic....Or the rocks lying around everywhere
@@erichdegurechaff9515 Oh, okay. I just assumed they were, being undead.

Idc about Raid, but when it's sponsoring a FECKING RuneScape channel is where it crosses the line.
Hey Nate, maybe to help keep the series going, you could just start reading us all the books and material, like audio books. I was always too lazy, or too short attention span, but would find it interesting and would give it a listen
The more videos I see from you about skyrim... the more I wanna play it again 🥰🥰🥰
it'd be cool if as a Stormcloak you could recruit the Red Eagle to fight against the empire.
That could be cool, but you'd still not be a Reachman, so it wouldn't make sense with his lore for him to help you or respond to you in any way positively.
He'd probably kill any stormcloaks he'd come across since ulfric killed his people
What you should be able to do, is if you're a Breton, you have a chance to join the Forsworn.
@@Alexrider02 Well...Bethesda ya know *shrugs*
6. King Olaf One-Eye's undead corpse is the only draugr we meet in the game that speaks Tamrielic (or English) when he says "Insolent Bard! Die!".
Draugr is basically the ancient Nordic word for zombie in real life. Therefore all the living dead can be called that, no matter how they became a Draugr.
I somehow bugged the red eagle quest and I was able to make it twice in one run getting two swords of his without cheating :'D Skyrim's a mess, but by God's I love it with my whole heart.

Nate modelling the buds was iconic. Slay us to death!
the most memorable thing about the draugrs was... the eyes effect bug that you get from the life aura shout that permanently make glowy eyes on your characters and you have to use console, race menu or mods to reset it
I can’t believe your still posting about fallout and Skyrim this truly is a amazing channel. Never give up
Draugr have a unattainable shout called " banish that weapon "
Actually you can get that shout it is called Disarm
@@theironfisherman4623 u clearly haven’t been disarmed before, you wouldn’t understand the stress of losing ur weapon on the ground and god forbid having it fall through the floor textures
@@CryNoM0 Yes I have been disarmed I lost my ebony war axe in labyrinthian. It pissed me off and I was so mad I punched the draugr to death
The Draugr may have been learning Dovahzul (and the Thu'um) from their dragon overlords, while wearing Raycons.
Otherwise, how the hell would they annoy us with their regular shouts?
I hope the next elder scrolls game is as good as this one was. It's amazing to listen to all of the lore in this game.

What ruin can you find this spell
@@aldousboal4920 He's bullshitting. Looking through TCRF and the wiki, I can't find a single reference to a draugr spell

Is it just me, or does there seem to be a huge hole in the "claw doors are mean to keep draugr in" idea? There are usually draugr on both sides of these doors, and many draugr are right near the entrances of various caves and dungeons anyway.
I think that’s for gameplay reasons
I think they mean the big boss not the servant cause the boss maybe still have some inteligence
I love the Red Eagle mission because of the mechanical door that you use the Sword as the key!!!! love features like that.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
OMG Nate. I don't always read those lore books where you seem to get alot of juicey details. I guess I need to hit my library at the museum and read up a bit. Had no idea of the details on these drauger!
