24:00 Technically, High Hrothgar might've been built by either ancient Proto-Nords - those who according to legends were "created" by Shor and Kyne right there, on the top of the Throat of the World, and later moved to Atmora to become atmorans; or by Shor himself. That script might be Atmoran language. Speaking of Proto-Nords who lived in Skyrim before moving to Atmora, it was also them who had probably built the Skyforge, before the snow elves took over those territories. Because one of forms of Kyne, a goddess Proto-Nords worshipped more than any other god apart from Shor, is an eagle (or a bird of prey in general) which neatly explains its bird-themed architecture.

As for the deadric runes on Jurgen's tomb, the Steel Plate armor also has deadric script on its helmet. Which translates to Nord Plate, so perhaps the ancient Nords just enjoyed labeling things in daedric script.

Its interesting to notice the Snow Elves also had an end of times Monastery dedicated to Akatosh.. It fell-just like the snow elves society did, but it still holds importance during an end of times event with the tyranny of the sun prophecy.
A few likes have brought me back to think about how each akatosh temple has nearby friendly dragons. Paarthurnax. Ju'Darri's dragon friend. The 2 lake dragons with their own altar in the Snow Elf temple. I assume that goes on, but it adds more to think about.
@@TheMeestLord isn't Auri-el the elf society's name for Akatosh? The elves had the same pantheon of gods as the nords, except Thalos, but called them different names. Of course, I still think it makes sense for the dragonborn to be Akatosh, and your deaths really happen, but you just turn back time after death to go back to your save points, and you absorb dragon souls.
@@djja8844 Most elves HATE Lorkhan who the Nords know as Shor their chief god. They really didn’t worship Dibella or Kynareth either. A strong argument can be made that Akatosh did not exist before the 3rd century of the 1st era when Alessia created the imperial pantheon which incorporated both elven and human deities as well as ones they shared. Shor was left out and Auri-el became Akatosh who was much more sympathetic to humans. This was done to accommodate the diverse peoples of the new empire. But Auri-el fought in the first war against the people who would become humans and Shor was on the other side and fought against those who would become the elven peoples.
I believe the deadric runes on the sarcophagus are some sort of "tome" that protect his body and soul from the daedra, so that no one could use him in death or raise him from the dead, and the dragon soul you get from the easter egg is mearly his knowledge of the dragon tounge as the greybeards do the same when teaching you. I do also think that he was dragonborn, but kept that to himself.
I don't think he was a Dragonborn since the Way of the Voice is more sided towards Kyne and the ability of mortals to learn shouts, not by the blessing from Akatosh himself

dude i just met him again last week n was wondering the same thing. it being his mom seems unlikely. i feel like her body would have been removed when he went to the orphanage. unless that's confirmed somewhere
You find a letter in the house that specifically says the steward sent a guard to escort him back to honorhall but suspiciously the guard is nowhere to be found. Yeah. He killed him
@@aedragorix o... that's a disturbingly cool theory. i dunno tho. aventis hates the orphanage so i always assumed that a guard came, took him away, and then he ran away from the orphanage after having to deal with grelog.
As an Icelander i always thought that Ustengrav meant one of these, The Eastern Grave or The Outer Grave or The First Grave. Great to see you back by the way Nate (:
The Daedric font on Jugern's tomb was supposed to be in Dragon language, in Dovahzul, if you look at the Skyrim Concept Arts you can find out that it actually is written in the Dragon language. And those tablets on the way up to High Hrothgar are very similar to the Dragon Language, but not an exact copy, maybe a modernization for mortals? Also those flying whales, great job Sir!
Jurgen Windcaller's story reminds me a bit of Miraak's. A dragonborn that was defeated, then (possibly) taken in by a daedra that made him more knowledgeable and stronger. herma Mora might collect Dragonborns. since the player character goes through a similar story.
i never realized how bad i missed the intro until i heard it here again. Nates videos brought me so much happiness and kept me sane through out quarantine. welcome back dude!!
At the end of each kappa, alduin returns to reap the world and allow the seeding of new life. Also Akatosh is a stickler for history repeating itself. Remnants of a previous dragon break make sense to explain why the khajiits have the same story and symbolism. Just look at the pantheons between races, the are like distorted mirrors. So too is this story. The end of a kappa began for the khajiits, and they stalled or stopped it for a time, or perhaps simply altered how the Kappa ended. Now in skyrim, the kappa yet again nears its end. alduin returns by the throat of the world, raises his army of destruction and is “slain” by the dragonborn. And so the kappa... continues? Ends? Changes? How long before histories strands unravel? Jorgen windcaller has lived before, just as the dragonborn, just as Sheogorath. The cycle begins anew.
The LDB wasn't stopping the Kalpic cycle. They were *resetting* it. Alduin had abandoned his destiny and began dominating Man, eventually seeking dominion over the entirety of Tamriel and probably Nirn. This was a problem for obvious reasons, since Alduin is the end of time and all that (like how Anui-El is the beginning of time and Akatosh is the present time). Since TES reportedly goes on into the 9th Era if you take MK's writings as canon, the Kalpa wasn't supposed to reset in the 4th. The Dragonborn was making sure that when it happens Alduin fulfills his duty instead of seeking domination over the world again.
Has anyone ever carried Jurgen's horn to Sovengard and tried to interact with Jurgen with it, possibly reverse pickpocketing the horn into Jurgen's inventory?
@@lilianakolb2032 I don't know if you know, but when you kill Alain and get Aegisbane you can retrieve it to its owner, I discovered this accidentally when I was talking with Torbjorn about going easy on the argonians.
I'm sure you already noticed, But something i just noticed was in the beginning scene when you meet Alduin He does the push shout at you. Which made me think of what Parthanaax says when you first meet him, When he says patience there are traditions to be held upon a first meeting of two of the Dovah and has you share you're thuum with him. Made me think that while Alduin may not like you he does atleast honor tradition. I just thought it was interesting.
One theory I'm taking a long shot towards is the dragon born is the shezerine of shor, known as lorkan to the elves. And I think the daedric princes used to follow him like he was the leader of their cult, or hero worshiped him when they heard about what he did. And so they flock to his reincarnations like flies to honey.
@@Ed_man_talking9 But then why do the Deadra still try to kill us? And why would they force us to follow them? It makes some sense and would certainly explain things but there are a few holes in your theory.
@@JonatasAdoM Yes, except the Dragonborn does not have ties to all of them. Not exactly. In fact he never engages with the most feared and powerful Daedric Prince, Jyggalag.

Finally, THE Epic Nate has come back. You haven't missed a single step dude, and you mentioned needing several more videos to tell part of the backstory here? Fuckin go for it, I've literally never not been very satisfied and appreciative of your videos. Welcome back
I’m still curious about how Delphine retrieved the horn before the Dragonborn could get to it. If the only way you can get into Jurgen’s tomb is by using whirlwind shout, does that imply that Delphine knows how to use the way of the voice? And if so, does that not go against what the Blades believe in? So many unanswered questions.
Well not necessarily. The Way is about the voice not being used for glory/personal gain. However it's entirely feasible that as a Blade she had access to either a tutor to teach her, or some written record to go off of and learn at least a couple minor shouts. The Way of the Voice is not the use of the Voice itself.
When the Greybeards grant you their knowledge, the effect displayed is the same as when a dragon gives you its soul, so I think that effect from Windcaller's tomb is his knowledge gifted to you as a reward for bringing the horn back. The fact that the knowledge is given to you in the form of 1 soul is the game mechanics' way of representing it.
I'm surprised he didn't mention that the other graybeards gave similar effects to be honest That said, jurgan windcalled might still have been a dragonborn. In years past, people knew the dragonborn only by their lineage to the imperial throne because there were no dragons to pit them against, jurgan could be an offshoot of the family, like the player Character of Skyrim might be. So jurgan, a dragonborn, comes to know of shouts, and learns some, at the battle of red mountain, one or more daedra teach him many more words of power in the dragon language and that's what makes him so powerful, and he can accept the information so readily because of his dragonborn lineage
There is a slight difference. When the Greybeards (or Partysnax) teach you a shout, you get the effect, but not the message ‘Dragon Soul Absorbed’ or the chanting sound that comes when you absorb a dragon’s soul. When you get the soul from Windcaller’s tomb, however, you do get that message. Knowing that Bethesda doesn’t always apply the best coding practices, it might just be something baked into the game for when your number of Dragon Souls is incremented (as is seen with the console command ‘player.modav dragonsouls x'), but I still think that it’s worth mentioning.
@@schrodingersmoth what I like to think is that if Jürgen was indeed a dragonborn then he then must have had a dragon soul, by returning the horn you freed his soul from the tomb and absorbed it. That would probably mean that he could have been revived in some regard like Alduin's dragons because they kept their soul, and you have to absorb it for them to be truly gone and un-revivable
@@YourPoliticalCousin But then how would we see him in Sovngarde? If his soul is either in his tomb of absorbed by the LDB, he wouldn't be in any kind of afterlife.
I just found your videos on Skyrim V. I can't tell you how many times I play this game since it came out! Your videos add a lot of back story as well as trying new things. Thanks so much for your time and diligence for putting out this content. I just started a new game and I NEVER knew or even thought of taking the horn back!! I am this time!! Thank you!!
It's worth noting that when the Greybeards grant you their knowledge of Shouts, they use the same visuals as when you absorb a Dragon Soul. It's possible that when we return the horn to Jurgen's sarcophagus, we receive _his_ knowledge- just represented as a Dragon Soul for gameplay convenience

22:30 i thought you were going to mention something about the wooden mask place, where it “bends time and reality”, as by wearing the mask you’re taken to a time within that room that the place wasnt entirely abandoned
OK. Its brilliant. Now explain Delphine. How does she get into Ustengrad and get the Horn? She isn't Dragonborn. There is a reason the Greybeards have a poor opinion of the Blades and vice versa. How does all that fit into this deep lore?
Yes, it was definitely Bethesda and not at all Zenimax Online Studios who made the game and has been making the DLC since the beginning. Bethesda bad yes. Give internet points.
Some thoughts 1) Delphine explains that the Greybeards were "predictable" in sending you after the horn, implying its a tradition for all dragonborns (and possibly prospective greybeards?) to retrieve (and assumedly later return) it. 2) There is little evidence as to you doing anything more than staggering at the force of the greybeard's chant, anything further is entirely speculative. 3) Given the look of his other horn, its possible Paarthurnax's missing horn also had two ends, meaning they could have gone to both Jurgen and Ja'Darri 4) The Greybeards can directly grant the Dragonborn the equivalent knowledge of a dragon shout, several times over. i see no reaosn their founder could not in some way enchant their tomb to do the same upon the return of the Horn 5) I wonder if the runes of those messages on the steps to High Hrothgar bear any resemblance to the ones on the Eye of Magnus or the Elder Scrolls... 23:50 A Snow Whale tis a rare sight to behold
3 Partysnacks horn is not nearly big enough to be both. It is more likely that the second prong was shaved of when drilling the horn. The other horn is also really different, though that is not necessarily a big dead since it is in another game.
Glad to have you back dude! You were dearly missed!

@@Ruhrich92 the lake dragons are aggro tho?
It’s is dedicated to Auri-el not Akatosh. There is a difference.

Oh dang, glad to see Hermaeus Mora decided to take the form of TheEpicNate315 again! Welcome back!

Here’s a mystery, I think. Has anyone ever asked where Aventis Arinteno got the body for his black sacrament ritual? Is it his mother? Or father? He is an orphan. I’m very curious

@@piyo744 Then there is Paarthanax's words about those who wish to either delay or hasten the end.
It's good to hear your epic voice again, welcome back.

Gone for a year, comes back and drops a great video and then bounces back out.
@@Ed_man_talking9 At least it would explain the dragonborn having ties with all of them.

So happy you are back! And safe. I was realy worried. Your voice brought so many good memories.
The Way of the Voice is not the use of the Voice itself.
she used the exit door to enter?
@@internetanalyst8166 no, it's closed.
@@16bursonk but if she used the way of the voice to get the horn she used the voice for personal gain. (To meet the dovakin)

OH MY GOD HE'S BACK! WELCOME BACK NATE, WE MISSED YOU!
And when the world needed him most……. He returned
I'm surprised he didn't mention that the other graybeards gave similar effects to be honest
That said, jurgan windcalled might still have been a dragonborn.
@@schrodingersmoth lmao I realized that like 2 minutes after I posted it, that's a good point.

Some thoughts
1) Delphine explains that the Greybeards were "predictable" in sending you after the horn, implying its a tradition for all dragonborns (and possibly prospective greybeards?) to retrieve (and assumedly later return) it.
2) There is little evidence as to you doing anything more than staggering at the force of the greybeard's chant, anything further is entirely speculative.
3) Given the look of his other horn, its possible Paarthurnax's missing horn also had two ends, meaning they could have gone to both Jurgen and Ja'Darri
4) The Greybeards can directly grant the Dragonborn the equivalent knowledge of a dragon shout, several times over. i see no reaosn their founder could not in some way enchant their tomb to do the same upon the return of the Horn
5) I wonder if the runes of those messages on the steps to High Hrothgar bear any resemblance to the ones on the Eye of Magnus or the Elder Scrolls...
23:50 A Snow Whale tis a rare sight to behold
3 Partysnacks horn is not nearly big enough to be both. It is more likely that the second prong was shaved of when drilling the horn. The other horn is also really different, though that is not necessarily a big dead since it is in another game.
We also get told in ESO that Ja'Darri's horn was given to her by Nahfahlaar
The Snow Whale interrupted my focus for a second. Lol
