Item #2: While the games never really spell out what the Thalmor are after, there are a lot of in-game books that offer some interesting hints. In particular, books on religion and the Divines have lots of information about the differences between Men and Mer outlooks. Basically, in the time before the Elder Scrolls world (Nirn) existed, all the mortal races were free spirits that danced and flew around Aetherius. When Nirn was created, the spirits were tied to mortal bodies and thrown into the world. The races of Men think this was a blessing and want to protect Nirn, while the races of Mer think this was a horrible joke and want to return to the spirit-existence they used to have. Long story short, the Thalmor are religious extremists who want to literally end Nirn and return all of existence to the spirit world that once was. And that statement about how they will win in the end is actually well-supported. The end of the main quest lines in both E.S. 2 Daggerfall and E.S. 3 Morowind each involved one of the pillars holding the mortal world in place: Numidium and the Heart of Lorkahn respectively. And in Morowind, the Heart of Lorkahn was actually destroyed. One of the pillars holding the mortal realm in place was *actually destroyed*. And then there's Parthunaax, the leader of the Greybeards, oldest living dragon, Avatar of Akatosh himself, etc. When you meet him for the first time in Skyrim, he sort of halfway scolds you about trying to prevent the end of the world. He lectures you about how some day, Nirn will have to die to make way for the next world that will be born. And if there's one thing you can count on from an immortal child of the God of Time himself, it's understanding about how the world will end. In the end, it seems that even if the Thalmor themselves are smashed and stamped out, eventually the end of the world will come anyway. They will get what they want, even if they themselves aren't the architects of it.
To note: The Dominion army in Hammerfell was, at the same time the host in Cyrodiil was being annihilated, being driven back and suffering defeat after defeat by the Legion and redguards there. These two armies were the largest the Dominion had at the time, and the defeat of both was very crippling to the group as a whole. Had the Empire continued the war, it would have ended in either the Dominion's defeat entirely, or at least a retreat back to and being held within the Summerset Isle by the Imperial navy.
Dominion still had armies in Elsweyr and Valenwood, which borders Cyrodiil. Meanwhile, Legionnaire contingents from Cyrodiil, Hammerfell, and Skyrim were tired and bloodied. Sure, the war can go either way. But Titus Mede II knows limit of his forces, so he pulled out when he was ahead. It is your choice to judge him as being cowardly or cautious.
@@svenrio8521 at, Great War, 30 years before or at the time of Skyrim (4E 201)? Leonard and I talked about the time of Great War. While, military heavily burden treasury is post GW thing.
First time I played Skyrim, I didn't realize the Thalmor and the Empire were different entities altogether because they always seemed so connected and i took my sweet time getting to the main questline I of course realize now that the Thalmor really just wanted to extend the Civil War as long as possible and they had a shaky truce with the Imperial Legion, but at the time it seemed like they were a close ally and this misunderstanding made me really dislike the Imperials at first.
I found the Thalmor Dossier on Ulfric, how he was their dormant asset etc, and yes their goal was just to prolong the war and weaken the empire from the inside. Not to mention the blatant proof that Ulfric is racist towards other races, and it just so happens i play an argonian mage, so yea, to hell with ulfric and his stormcloak. He's no different from that Madanach douche. Always sided with the empire from that moment on.
There's no blatant proof ulfric is racist. Sure he probably doesn't love other races as much as the nords, but he'll accept you and respect you no matter what race you are.
I remain pretty convinced that the final dragon mask, whose name translates to "warlord" was intended as the prize for a dragonborn recruited into the ranks of the dragon cult. Since that scenario would mean that the only being capable of truly killing a dragon would be fighting with them, the world would have been forced to bow the knee to the dragon cult. However, the dragon cult never got a chance to reward said mask and crumbled in absence of a dragonborn.
I tried that disguise thing in the embassy on my first playthrough as a dark elf. They immediately caught me even from across an entire hallway. So unless you are specifically an altmer, that strategy is effectively useless. I honestly doubt the idea has any effect at all aside from that.
Which is sad. If Skyrim was a bit deeper, it would allow members of the other elven races to do a speech check. "Oh, I'm part of a mer exchange program. You know, learn things, ban false gods, all that stuff"

Dragonborn: becomes Archmage, listener of the dark brother hood. Civil war hero. Thane of whiterun. Defeater of Alduin the world eater. The dragonborn whom the greybeards summoned. Vilkas: "I've never even heard of this outsider."
I was kinda pissed that you cant actively fight and defeat them in Skyrim. So I snuck into their headquarter in Solitude, emptyed all my garbage out of my inventory and unrelenting forced the pile for them to clean up. Also killed every thalmor I saw on the road.
"Enjoy sweeping up all those wooden bowls, bloody linen wraps, and embalming tools. That is, if your framerate with all this garbage (besides yourselves) around lets you."

Khajiits also kind of related to elves, they have tall khajiits that should be shorly called "high khajiits", they also can have red eyes, so they are thr highest beings in Tamriel. Maybe in whole Nirn
Listening to this video, something that we do in Skyrim now makes sense. I doubt Motierre was smart enough on his own to set into motion the assassination of the emperor. Someone must have put the idea into his head somehow. Maybe the Thalmor. Because as part of the build-up to his assassination we have to murder the son of the head of the Penitus Oculatus. Then at the end, we kill said head in revenge for his messing with the player character. The Thalmor is the only group that benefits from dismantling the P.O. Thalmor gives Motierrer the idea, sits back and watches as he sets everything in motion, they don't really get their hands dirty in the whole mess.
The interesting thing to me about the Great War and the time Skyrim takes place is that since mer live so much longer than men most of the men who fought on the imperial side of the war are older and likely retired from soldiering but there’s a good chance any Thalmor agent you encounter in Skyrim took part in the war and killed many of the relatives of the people of Skyrim. 30 years ain’t nothin for an Altmer

@@valendrien6517 Actually, there is some truth to that. You have to read a lot of the in-game books to start getting a more rounded picture of what Talos aka Tiber Septim aka Hjalti Early-Beard (yes, before he changed his name to Tiber Septim, that was his name.) There's a lot of argument in the books about what Tiber did or did not do, but it seems there is a lot of documentary and testimonial evidence (but very little demonstrative evidence) that Tiber Septim may have been guilty of quite a few crimes including assassinating his former king (and then becoming emperor with him out of the way) and an illicit affair with a Dunmer princess (Barenziah.) Of course, Skyrim gives you evidence for and against these crimes (and others) so no matter how deep you dig, there is no absolute proof. Still, if he did do some of the crimes he was accused of then, yeah, he was definitely being a low-life at times.

I don’t see how a Thalmor victory is inevitable when they have a huge disadvantage: Elves have a low birthrate. The Empire is able to replenish it’s ranks much easier than the Dominion, so in the long run, it doesn’t look good for them.
I think I read somewhere that elven birthrate is tied to the population density. "Conditionally fertile" i believe the term was. If there are a lot of elves, they don't have many children. If many elves are going off to war and dying, fertility rates would spike.

Thalmor hit squad: "You can't hide from me!" Me: Silently whispering "Keep telling yourself that " as I slowly draw The Blade of Woe across their necks.
In the Thalmor’s defense, Talos (and many other Nord cultural heroes) did many wrongs to the elves. (Think of the Numidium in Summerset, for example.) It makes sense for them to resent Talos, and thus believe he doesn’t deserve worship. Also the Thalmor aren’t a justification for hating Altmer in general. They are Elven Supremacists and do not reflect the opinions of the Altmer at large.
@Cody Allen my character grew up around Thalmor and because of this she despises them. She knows what they're trying to do and she will try to stop it at any cost. And that's why she was captured at the border lol.
I'll play an Altmer in my next playthrough, and I've already got a backstory planned for her. She didn't support the Thalmor ideals but was forced to become a Thalmor soldier against her will. When she was reassigned to Skyrim to accompany a Thalmor Justiciar (like the ones you see wandering around Skyrim in-game), she deserted the first chance she got and killed the Justiciar and freed the prisoner in the process. Turns out killing the Justiciar was a bad idea, because he had the status of a diplomat, and she ended up captured and sentenced to death- her execution is interrupted by none other than Alduin, and that's where her story as the protagonist of Skyrim begins.
The Thalmor should be scared. The first leader of every "human" Empire has always been a dragonborn, Saint Alessia, Reman Cyridiil, Tiber Septim, things didn't end well last time the high elves fought a dragon born led empire. I also find it convinient that Titus mede just so happens to die at the same time a dragon born appears.

The massive loss of resources (weapons, armor, personnel, etc.) at our hands alone (if we fight them, which I always do) means that they're weakened and not as powerful as they seem. If/when we join the fight against them in the coming war, there's a real chance that we could turn the tide.

Nate, hope you feel better soon! All these years and I never knew about dressing in Thalmor robes; holy crap.:-) Kirkbride's take on the Thalmor is quite interesting; I know he's a point of contention among TES fans (some love him, others not so much). I'll not spoil the details here, but according to Kirkbride, the Thalmor want to end Mundus, and erase the very idea of "Men" (hence their religious crusade against Talos) so Men can never exist again. “Normally you’d have to fight your way through said courtyard”
*EXCLUSIVE FOOTAGE OF A STREAKING DRAGONBORN*
Look at Alduins wall too, there’s a whole prophecy on it similar to the detailed you just laid out.
@@Masitu0031 It was also implied the Imperial economy wasn't doing too well, with most of the treasury being drained of gold to fund the war effort.

First time I played Skyrim, I didn't realize the Thalmor and the Empire were different entities altogether because they always seemed so connected and i took my sweet time getting to the main questline
I of course realize now that the Thalmor really just wanted to extend the Civil War as long as possible and they had a shaky truce with the Imperial Legion, but at the time it seemed like they were a close ally and this misunderstanding made me really dislike the Imperials at first.
Same happened for ESO, (The youtubwr guy, Danny.) but he's still stuck with that viewpoint.
That's nothing. It took me a while to tell the difference between "Thalmor" and "Falmer" (I had no subtitles).

@@SereneHaze6213 Yawn, racist, game, yawn.
And then crumbled in the presence of one as well 😂

Listening to this video, something that we do in Skyrim now makes sense. I doubt Motierre was smart enough on his own to set into motion the assassination of the emperor. Someone must have put the idea into his head somehow. Maybe the Thalmor. Because as part of the build-up to his assassination we have to murder the son of the head of the Penitus Oculatus. Then at the end, we kill said head in revenge for his messing with the player character. The Thalmor is the only group that benefits from dismantling the P.O. Thalmor gives Motierrer the idea, sits back and watches as he sets everything in motion, they don't really get their hands dirty in the whole mess.
i would say any faction not allied with the empire would benefit from the p.o being wiped out, not only the thalmor.
I always had a sneaking suspicion that the hit Motierre ordered was also orchestrated by the Thalmor as well, he was just a puppet for them
It was the Emperor himself.

Talos is a funny way to spell "low life"
@@valendrien6517 Actually, there is some truth to that.

“Empire strikes back” (Star wars)
Let’s just acknowledge that the shots were next level in this video
The Thalmor were actively looking for any powerful magical items, spells, or knowledge they could use for the upcoming 2nd Great War. The Empire isn’t shy about it either. One putts threatened my College after I fixed a dwemer map device.
My greatest fear is if they found out about the Dwemer's creation, the Aetherium Forge. That would lead to utter catastrophe.
Surprised he didn't mention the Oblivion DLC (knights of the nine) having to do with Umaril the Unfeathered - which is one of the only times Talos has played a pivotal role, post-ascension.
Question ... Is there a "Mod" available, which allows more thalmore to wonder around Skyrim?
I would greatly enjoy this simply to hunt them down.
@Noah Veon Thank you !!!
I want a mod that let's me wipe them out.
@@ocefloww There’s a mod that allows another Great War and you can fight for the Stormcloaks, Imperials, or Dominion in a voiced quest line.
What the video should’ve been named: *The Empire Strikes Back*
Disney: *copy strikes* “Listen to me; I am the captain now.”
Isn't Disney run by the Thalmor?
Its crazy to me that after years of playing skyrim theirs still so much that i dont know about it. It just goes to show how deep skyrims lore is and how much game development there is
"The Thalmor just kinda forgot that the Empire was a threat"
They're not much of a threat anymore
*Is wearing a fucking Eldritch Armor from the depths of Hell*
Thalmor: This dude probably worships Talos. Lets fuck him up!
Nate, hope you feel better soon! All these years and I never knew about dressing in Thalmor robes; holy crap.:-)
Kirkbride's take on the Thalmor is quite interesting; I know he's a point of contention among TES fans (some love him, others not so much). I'll not spoil the details here, but according to Kirkbride, the Thalmor want to end Mundus, and erase the very idea of "Men" (hence their religious crusade against Talos) so Men can never exist again. There's a great deal more to the scenario, but I won't get into it further. Im also wondrring if the Thalmor will be appearing in TES 6; Nazi mer make such a goid villain faction.
"Yellow little thumbs" Would the thalmor consider this as racist maybe? Hmm...Just a thought...
Well if they do they're hypocrites just saying
[pulls the tops of my ears up] - yOu LoOk LiKe A hErEtIc
"Towards my final days" sounds like you're dying, mate.
Hopefully not... I also hope it's not the "final days" of his UA-cam channel either. :-(
If he does go to sovngarde we can burn him in the skyforge
Dragonborn: The Thane of every hold, slain Miraak, Harkon, and Alduin. Literally the most powerful person in Skyrim.
Random thief on road: HAND OVER YOUR VALUABLES OR I'LL GUT YOU LIKE A FISH.
"Can only visit the Aldmeri Dominion during this one quest"
(lockpicking skills say otherwise)
The front door on the Thalmor embassy can't be picked, and no one you kill outside it or in the barracks has a key. Trust me I tried. I went back to kill everything at the embassy, and couldn't get into the door
@@lefthook4878 I hadn't tried, but I seem to recall once, just once, the gate saying that it was a Master level lock.
...Maybe this is bad memory or a glitch, or I dunno.
@@lefthook4878 can’t you enter through the cave you exit?
I tried the disguise thing when I played through the main quest as a high elf and I can confirm that it's apparently kinda buggy and didn't work for me. So disappointing, but at least I still had to brutally murder a bunch of thalmor so there's still solace in that haha
5:27 see what you did there Nate ;)
I have a mountain of thalmor bodies to go with all the raider bodies that i keep in the lake at nuka world.
I love the fact that the world is so big that regardless of how much one knows, one has no clue as to some of the most basic questions
17:48 "Desbern and Elfine" i will forever call them this
