My wife and I drove up from San Antonio to be at the 50th anniversary show. We met a couple that night who had seen the Feb. 3rd, 1959 show at the Surf as teenagers, and had returned all those years later. It was an amazing night in spite of being 6 BELOW zero outside. Many, many stars, as well as Bopper"s son, Ritchie's family, and Buddy's widow, Maria Elana were there. The next morning we went back and I got to stand on the stage in the spot where they had performed 50 years earlier for their final time. It was moving beyond words.

On Quora, I was once asked about things to see in Iowa. I gave a long list, and the ending item was the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa where Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper sang their last songs.

Of course he was. He lost a brother at a young age. Losing a sibling sucks at any age but when it happens when they are forever remembered in their youthful days it hurts. You never get over it. I speak from personal experience.
On top of it all as an older sibling it adds to the pain thinking you didn’t protect them or save them. Anyone who claims they get over that are full of…

Of course Selena Quintanilla made her version of La Bamba because she was obviously inspired by Ritchie. He was before her time and he deserves way more credit than her. I knew who Ritchie Valens was long before her. I never heard of Selena until years after her death. If it wasn't for Ritchie Valens, there wouldn't have been Selena.

I don’t know what you mean. Cold towards that girl Selena for no reason? I just stated that how she was inspired through him, and that may have somewhat helped her career. I never said that you or anyone else didn’t know he was before her time. He even inspired Carlos Santana, who help with the music for the movie La Bamba. He’s of course playing the guitars that are heard throughout the film during the scenes. He is a successful rocker thanks to Ritchie who he pays homage too. So again, not sure what you a saying, but many people seem to jump and defend something that’s not worth defending when one is just starting truth. It’s nothing rude or dismissive at all. That’s funny how nothing can be said about a regular person with the title “celebrity “ attached to them, because if so you get you head bitten off.

What would they all have done with there music. Would they have knocked the King off the mountain? Would they have squashed the Beetles? Would they been able to top The stones? What if? And who knows. Every Generation has there falling rock stars.

"La Bamba" has ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIES, I use to dance to his music, even tho I was born in 1962, I have to my celebrity boyfriend, a well known actor (mainly), and musician (a member of the Hollywood Vampires), if he ever wants to get on my good side, to sing one of Richie Valens's songs

Ritchie's songs lived on in TV shows and movies, like Grease 1978 movie. One scene, it was the dancing scenes. And I heard it the very first time, and I didn't know that Ritchie sung. And I loved the song.
