Fun fact! Ritchie Valens real mom had a cameo in the movie, it was the scene where they’re celebrating for Ritchie I believe, and their whole family and friends are in the house, and the part where two of his family members are holding the camera recording everyone and they show a guy and an older lady on the couch, and the older lady is Ritchie valens real mom 👍

As the next morning they found out about the plane crash that took the lives of the young singers they'd just seen. My Mom has been gone since 2011. The middle sister loved snow but hated fog her whole life and refused to go anywhere if it were foggy. I know that it was a long, nerve wracked drive home, but that's not what they talked about. It was the music and the people they'd met. Years later when they'd talk about it, normally around the holidays when lots of family members were around, the subject would come up. I could see the change in my Mom's face.....not saddness exactly, but a forlorn look almost wishing the past were different. Hard to explain, but very powerful. I got crowded out of the school auditorium he was performing in and had to listen to a small speaker on the entry court. I'm from Modesto, Joe Valenzuela is my grandfather and Reyes is used as a middle name in my family. My dad and all my uncles have that same middle name and now my son does too.
He died at 17! He did so much in his short life. I love his music. He will life forever through is music. That’s something he would be proud of. I love that house! The chickens and the trees! Thank you for the video!
I watched it as a young boy because I am Mexican but I didn’t get it then and didn’t appreciate the film then but as I got in my late teens and early 20’s I understood it completely. Because it’s a big part of my heritage. Now I can’t stop watching it. Every time it’s on the tv I’m glued to the set. Thank you for doing this video.
Such a touching tribute & a tragic story of the late great Ritchie Valens. I have family buried at San Fernando Mission Cemetery. Only 17 years old when the crash happened. Ritchie was the 1st celebrity grave I ever visited. Santo & Johnny's Sleepwalk gets me every time. I can hear Bob yelling "Ritchie!!!" at the top of his lungs on that bridge. RIP Ritchie, Bob, Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper & pilot Roger Peterson. Great vlog Scott.
@Tony Dude, He lived there over 60 years ago! Obviously times have changed, neighborhood, towns. I’m sure back then it was a nice home for them when he bought it for his mom. Geez, you and your comments 🤦🏻♀️ what you keep calling a dump is someone else home, so not sure what your point is here
@@mirandavinci4146 I know my joke about the movie to all my family and friends is Connie would have rather had Bob on that plane, Not her Ritchie 🤣🎸 #whataboutmeeeeeuhadmelockedup!
I love the way the home and town really never changed, it is as if you can see him there just as it was then. It is like predetermined in some way that his fear became reality... it is strange and mysterious how that happens sometimes... Great video.
I agree, I was thinking the same thing. It looks the same there, like Ritchie could be in the house and just come out and walk down the street. So quiet and peaceful looking.
There was something extremely peaceful about Ritchie Valens home it brought complete calmness over me and I cannot stop staring at the house thank you Scott I don't know what it was but there's something special about that house
My sister was/is a big Richie Valens fan and I''ve probably seen "La Bamba" 20 times. We visited his house and gravesite in 1999 when we took a trip to LA. "Sleepwalk" gives me goosebumps.
Cannot think about the film “La Bamba”whenever I hear “Sleepwalk”. That last shot as Easai Morales screams “Richie”, with Richie and Bob running up the hill in slow motion, gets me every time.
I grow up hearing stories about Ritchie valens and his brother mostly his brother from my great uncles that use to run around with Bob back in the day ....sadly me great uncles passed back in 2014 but my grandma is still around and remembers Ritchie back in highschool I've seen some of my grandmas pictures of Ritchie's mom and my great grandma
Buddy holly ‘s wife never visited the grave of his husband and for this tragic lost , she lost also their only baby when she was pregnant .. very very sad
Oh,so sad! I wasn't even born when they died, but i had much older siblings and really appreciated the music. Too much talent to lose all in one morning! Thank you again Scott!❤
Unfortunately I just now saw this story. I have a couple of amazing things that happened to me when I saw the movie. 1st I went with a friend who chose this movie I knew nothing much about it. But of course it went on to become amongst my top ten list. As I was watching I was surprised to see the drummer, who I knew from the video store I worked at. He had membership there. 2nd I also took the Ritchey tour. Basically what you showed. However when I was at his gravesite a woman showed up there. She said her nickname was “boots.” She was very nice and offered to take me to the house he grew up in. She did! She said she took care of him as a baby. I thought that that was so very cool! Thanks for the video.
I’ve been to both the Surf Ballroom and the Crash site. Both were absolutely amazing and I played Sleepwalk for them when I got there. I believe I truly felt their presence and felt an overwhelming sense of sadness. Definitely want to go again and you should DEFINITELY go
@@patobantan420 it came out in August 1959. A few months after they died. The movie was inaccurate in that way because they played that song in memory of them but like I said wasn’t released until That summer.
I absolutely love all of them especially Richie omg when my aunt played his music I just melted and I'm black but I have Latinos in my family I never learned a language so fast after hearing Richie my family was shocked.
My grandparents knew Richie personally mother is from Pacoima I grew up in the neighboring city of San Fernando. Richie was a big part of the pop culture identity of the area.

Also, for some reason I find it fascinating when visiting famous Graves that you are merely 6ft away from them at that point. It's just surreal to me, how close you really are to them
That’s one way to look at it but for me It’s not really them imo, just the vessel that held them. I don’t think that the person is present at the grave site.
I attended PMS, and I am now currently going to SFHS. The band (which I am a part of) played at the American Legion last Sunday (5/15/22) and we had to play La Bamba because well yk. Very unfortunate, he passed away so young.
The 50's are still a neat and innocent time to look back on. I probably know more Roy Orbison songs than I do Elvis, but know more of Elvis' history than Roy's. La Bamba is still a great and fun song to turn on when you're feeling good. I wish I knew more about the 50's. Great cars, diners, movies and more. Thanks for sharing this one Scott! Rock on sir!

Ritchie Valenz real name was Ricardo Valenzuela ! He had to change his name because there was a lot of prejudice in those years (. Still is but less ). So they told him to get a more Americanized name so he could make it in the Music World 🌎! La Bamba was a very good movie ! It brought tears to my eyes , very sad at the end .!
I want to thank this young man Scott for bringing this moment to us all . Pretty awesome tribute . Thank you once again for sharing s heart felt moment in time . For some this may be as close as one may get so it is very meaningful. God Bless 🙏

I'm glad I watched this video about Richie valens . It's also good to see that schools feed students whom aren't able to but food for themselves . Richie died way to young . We as fans miss him very much along with the big bopper and Buddy Holly .
My parents attended the winter party tour show at the Capital theater in Davenport IA on Jan 29. My mother was pregnant at the time and almost didn't go. My father was making a living as a musician at the time in Davenport so it was a must-see show.
all the great music we were deprived of, that he would have created, but for his untimely death, same goes for every other musician that left us way before their time, all that music in their souls , went to the graves with them.
What's sad is the record producer didn't give the family what they deserved. His mom lost the house his car , everything because the were only down-payments .
i read that she lived in the house for 6 years before moving out because it was too hard for her stay there anymore and then sold it after 20 years later
Fun fact Christina Applegate also went to Pacoima Jr High. I grew up a few blocks from Richies home and ended up at the same Jr High. There’s murals of both actors inside the school.

@Tony Dude, He lived there over 60 years ago! Obviously times have changed, neighborhood, towns. I’m sure back then it was a nice home for them when he bought it for his mom. Geez, you and your comments 🤦🏻♀️ what you keep calling a dump is someone else home, so not sure what your point is here
@Tony who are you making dumb comments? get out of here. You sound ignorant
I remember he bought his mom that home. When his mom found out he died she was in the backyard hanging up laundry and she screamed RICHIE! Rip
I thot she said I could understand if it was you Bob.. but not Ritchie! 🤔🤣
There are actually 2 homes Bob bought the first one and Ritchie bought the second just weeks before he died. This home I believe was the first one.
His mom was screaming Not Richie, Not my Richie. His brother Bob was the one that screamed out his name in the end of the movie
@@mirandavinci4146 I know my joke about the movie to all my family and friends is Connie would have rather had Bob on that plane, Not her Ritchie 🤣🎸
#whataboutmeeeeeuhadmelockedup!
@@ALSILVERU2 I know right, Because if she said “no not my Richie” then Who els , my bob ? 😂
I pass thru Richie valen park everyday only 5 minutes were I live I grew up san fernando all my life born and raised
@@popeye5274 yes!!! Same here!! Every single time!!! I must have seen this movie 60 times
Silly question, but does his family still own this home?
Definitely want to go again and you should DEFINITELY go
I've always wanted to go
Fun fact Sleepwalk came out years after he died
It’s on my bucket list to visit. Want to play Eddie Cochran 3 Stars at the crash site. Can’t imagine the emotions
@@patobantan420 it came out in August 1959. A few months after they died. The movie was inaccurate in that way because they played that song in memory of them but like I said wasn’t released until That summer.
Yesssss I definitely want to go!! I need to go
I was hoping you would do this one!! I love Ritchie Valens. So sad that we never got to see all the great things he could have done in life.
Y did u hop n da plane...R.V. nw u av to r.i.p..😇🙏🙏💜bio👍✌️💯
Amazing! Did they share what he was like?
What I have always found sad is, to this very day, the only one of these 3 singers not to have a movie or anything made about him, is the Big Bopper.
I find it sad as well. I would love to see a movie made about the Big Bopper.
So true the big bopper was amazing and so talented.
I agree that is very sad
@@deserieorona858 Think they were going to do one, but, the project fell through. They should try again. As the oldest of the trio, he obviously had some more life experiences and a story to share with the world.
@@deserieorona858 The line in "American Pie," that has the Persons Of the Trinity symbolizing the 3 dead singers; I personally see the Big Bopper as the Father, while Richie Valens as the Son, & Buddy Holly as the Holy Spirit (being the middle ager of the 3 of them).
Also, for some reason I find it fascinating when visiting famous Graves that you are merely 6ft away from them at that point. It's just surreal to me, how close you really are to them
Soo true ❤❤❤❤
I think about that so much.
Never thought of that, interesting
That’s one way to look at it but for me It’s not really them imo, just the vessel that held them. I don’t think that the person is present at the grave site.
@@LGRW313 I agree with you, but the vessel is still important
Came back to rewatch this as I just watched la bamba today 😔
Awesome !
I attended PMS, and I am now currently going to SFHS. The band (which I am a part of) played at the American Legion last Sunday (5/15/22) and we had to play La Bamba because well yk. Very unfortunate, he passed away so young.
Rip Ritchie... He was before my time but I been reading up on his history. And I love the video
Thank you Melinda!
@@SCOTTONTAPE Your welcome
I became a fan of Ritchie's after I had watched the movie La Bamba at the age of 14 in 1987. And have been a fan since
I love that they made a Ritchie Valens recreation center!❤
The 50's are still a neat and innocent time to look back on. I probably know more Roy Orbison songs than I do Elvis, but know more of Elvis' history than Roy's. La Bamba is still a great and fun song to turn on when you're feeling good. I wish I knew more about the 50's. Great cars, diners, movies and more. Thanks for sharing this one Scott! Rock on sir!
Great video. My Dad still has original 45s of his music.
That is awesome 👌
@@wicked8139 he was a DJ in Detroit so we have lots of original 45s and 8 tracks reels. My first concert was Kiss at Cobo Hall where my dad was helping with the mixing. It’s the Live Kiss Album.
@@stephaniesmith9094 that is amazing your father must have some story telling memories you are blessed 🙌🙏
Amazing 💯💯💯
Born in 1985 & la bamba was my favorite movie as a kid. When I would cry my mom/dad would put it on so I would stop crying
This was the School that Ritchie was going to when his fear of planes and flying began. This is where his best friend was killed when the two planes collided like you see at the beginning of La Bamba
I thought that was crazy!
@@anettie76 As mentioned in the video, Ritchie was attending his grandfather's funeral which means he was standing right there where Scott was shooting video, and looking at his own future gravesite, not knowing of course. Frank Reyes, the other grave next to Ritchie and his mother's grave, is his maternal grandfather whose funeral he was attending at the time of the 1957 crash where debris killed students.
La Bamba came out when I was a kid and I always was a fan..my father introduced oldies music to me also, from the 50s and 60s..RIP to these 3 talented musicians ❤
i love 50's and 60's music it's my favorite kind of music
Richie Valens didnt have a long life but what an impact hes had on so many lives, thanks for the memories Scott. I grew up with all those songs from my mum who is 4 years younger than Richie was. Great cid as always 🤘🏻🤘🏻
My husband went to the same school. His grandma used to baby sit Richie and his bro. My husband grandmas house was on La Rue St across the street from the school
That’s not true. Lucky husband was Ricardo.
An now Ritchies brother has joined them, may they all Rest in peace 🙏
Scott the guitar playing and the scene of the cemetery brought me to tears. RIP Ritchie.
I didn’t realize how young he was.. he was very talented
If you ever watched the movie, you'd see he was in Highschool.
Thank you for making this video happen @SCOTT ON TAPE love @Ritchie Valenzuela much love R.I.P. Ritchie Valenz. ❤❤❤❤
Wow even in school he looked like he took a lot of pride in whatever he did. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing!
Richie looked alot older than 17. The graveyard is so peaceful & beautiful. " forever young " rip 🙏🌹🕊
I want to thank this young man Scott for bringing this moment to us all . Pretty awesome tribute . Thank you once again for sharing s heart felt moment in time . For some this may be as close as one may get so it is very meaningful. God Bless 🙏
Thank you for sharing this. Richie was very talented, sadly his career was cut short. RIP Richie!!
Amazing Video!! So sad that he lost his live at such a young age!! My mom loved Buddy Holly!! RIP Richie Valens, Buddy Holly, & "The Big Bopper" & to the pilot Roger Peterson🙏
Just imagine Richie’s music career if he had lived he would have been huge he was so young and so talented
Thank you for taking us along ..I have to say if I owned that home knowing the history behind it I would have made sure to preserve as much of it how he had it originally because I def feel that house should have been looking a lot better
Clicked on this so fast. I grew up watching La bamba... such a good film Richie valens was so talented but so young when he died. Thank you Scott for this video lots of love from liverpool UK ☺️☺️
Thank you Jerri hope you like it!
If only Richie Didn't get on that plane RIP Richie Valens 🙏🙏🙏🙏. Great video as always Scott
Thanks so much for Richie Valens and showing his house and schools where he went Graveside with his mom and grandfather too...
So sad he was only 17 too young. He had such tallent all of them. My parents loved them. I heard his music along with others great video well done
I'm glad I watched this video about Richie valens . It's also good to see that schools feed students whom aren't able to but food for themselves . Richie died way to young . We as fans miss him very much along with the big bopper and Buddy Holly .
You should come to Lubbock tx for buddy holly they have his house here an he’s also buried here at the Lubbock cemetery
Yeah, Patsy Cline, John Denver, Ricky Nelson? Etc
What's sad is the record producer didn't give the family what they deserved. His mom lost the house his car , everything because the were only down-payments .
That is so sad. He grew up so fast. Makes you wonder if he comprehended the importance of insurance. Most likely no due to his age.
i read that she lived in the house for 6 years before moving out because it was too hard for her stay there anymore and then sold it after 20 years later

Fun fact Christina Applegate also went to Pacoima Jr High. I grew up a few blocks from Richies home and ended up at the same Jr High. There’s murals of both actors inside the school.
Sending them all love
Every year at the Surf Club in clear lake Iowa plays his music every year of the anniversary.
I used to live there
I remember bawling my eyes out watching this as a kid. One of my all time favorite movies. I remember being shook when I finally saw the real Ritchie. 😭 So baby-faced. Thanks to the internet, I have all kinds of info on him.
"My dreams are pure rock and roll."... great video! Thanks for sharing! Liked and subscribed!
Thank you Sergio!
I love His music. I was 4 when he died, RIP!! TY!!
You have an incredible talent for chronicling and narrating fascinating historical events and anecdotes of both the famous and the the unknown in your own unique way. I also second the motion for free breakfast and lunch for every school kid in the world.
Such a talented young man that loved his family, His music will live on forever ❤
His maternal grandfather buried next to him.. it’s crazy that he was there in that cemetery seeing him get buried (1957) and less than 2 years later he’s buried right next to him 😱
So talented what a waste of a beautiful life far to young he had so much going for him so sad 😞. His home is so beautiful the trees gardens all so well kept the chicken was a lovely colour. I thank you once again for a fantastic video. Love ❤️ from West Yorkshire UK ❤️ 🇬🇧
Thank you for this video. I remember that I was 13, and at school in London when we heard about the crash. We were all great fans of Buddy Holly, Ritchie, and the Big Bopper. I will ever get to visit, so this is the next best thing.
Great video. Ritchie Valens was an amazing artist and his music will always live on
Thank you Scott for doing this video. So sad he died so young. La Bamba was a great movie.
It’s nice that they keep the house beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I just want to say that Scott is a really decent guy I mean I don't know him personally but he puts his heart in his soul into everything that he does I'm sure including this right here his videos are probably the best he really cares about his job and what he does and he cares about the people that he puts into his videos always subscribe to him he knows what he's doing he's got a good heart and a good soul keep going strong Scott.
Thank you Jon!
Your videos are so well done, you share the stories of the people that you visit (homes, graves...). There is a line in Hamilton that says: "Who's going to tell our story"and I have thought about that since I found your channel 2 weeks ago. Thank you for sharing their stories and RIP Ritchie Valens, gone too soon,
Thank you, for this great video. I love how Ritchie's Mum was so stylish even in her older photo's. It reminds me of the older women in my family. Us Chicana women are like that.
Gone too soon. At such a young age. If he would have lived. He would have done great things. Loved by many, never forgotten. Rest easy Richie.🌹🌹Thank you Scott for always being so caring. On such sensitive stories.
Been waiting for this video Scott, glad you finally got around to it, this is a great Story, can't imagine what Ritchie would have done if he had lived. Just need to get out to the Surf Ballroom now.
To quote an old song: A long, long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile,.........

Wow you brought me home. I grew up in North Hollywood about 10 minutes from his home. I moved to Texas in 2012. So sometimes I miss home. Had to pause the cemetery part and gather myself. I have family there. When I visited last year it was hard. But thank you for giving me a little bit of home.
Waylon Jennings was almost on the plane, he flipped a coin, lost, and said he hoped their plane crashed. Never settled well with him.
Actually it was Ritchie who flipped a coin and got on the plane . Waylon gave up his seat to JP Big Bopper after JP asked him because he was suffering from the flu. He did however make an offhand remark to Buddy Holly about the plane craziness g and he always regretted that. Thank you for watching. ✌🏽✌🏽
