      Lou Diamond Phillips actually wanted to play Bob and Esai Morales wanted to play as Richie.
      It was decided though that Lou fit Richie's character better, and likewise for Esai. And I'd definitely say it worked out wonderfully. 💯💯

    Watching him in this clip makes you realize just how great of a job Esai Morales did in playing him. He sounds and talks just like in the movie. It's pretty crazy how accurately he was portrayed. La Bamba is the realest movie out there that's based on a true story, we can thank Ritchie's family for that. They were very involved in the making of this movie. The movie is pure authenticity, no bullshit.

    I Know Ritchie's family. His mom and my mom were friends. I did a lot of the research that went into Ritchie Valens biography. Ritchie was going to Pacoima Junior High and briefly San Fernando High School. He was never working in a Farm Workers camp. That part of the story comes from Luis Valdez and his brother Danny Valdez.. Riychie's aunt Ernestine Reyes who Ritchie lived with during his short career, was shocked when she read the script because she knew there were a lot of things in there that just were not true. " Ritchie didn't wear a rattlesnake necklace, he wore a Saint Christopher's necklace!" She told me.
    I appreciate how the movie made Millions more people know about Ritchie Valens. And I understand that Luis Valdez who I met and audition for, needed to tell a good story and get the movie done with the incomplete information that they had about Ritchie's life at that time.

      @Tornado1994 4 роки тому +32

      @@bobblehead7732 Nope. Bob Morales and Ritchie were blood brothers. He LOVED his little brother dearly and was proud of him. He chaperoned him during his Career, and backed out on joining him on the 1959 Winter Dance Party because Ritchie was super excited about Buddy Holly. Buddy was his HERO.
      The Movie did change a few thing: For one, Bob made money customizing Bikes and Auto Detailing and never sold Illegal Drugs, two, yeah he did smoke weed(He's a bit stoned in this interview), and three he was married twice. His first Wife was Rosetta Avila, she forced him to attend the Baby Shower for their daughter(his first child) instead of him being able to take the Bus to Burbank after he had won the $500 Disney Cleanup Artist Contest. Walt Disney himself HAD offered him a Job as a Cleanup Artist(Bob ALMOST got to Work on the Sword and the Stone) and had plans on hiring Morales as his first Latina Artist. Morales was VERY talented at storyboarding, and was crushed and heartbroken when he was forced to miss the opportunity to Bus ride to Burbank,CA after Rose nagged him over and again that if he missed the Shower, he was a Deadbeat walking out of her and their Baby. Connie originally supported Bob's decision to go to Burbank, but Rose talked her into forcing him to attend the Shower.
      So although the film made it look like Connie told Bob no and attend the shower, it was his first WIFE that talked him out of going by nagging the hell out of him.
      Connie was PROUD of her boys and supported Bob's dream of becoming a Cleanup Artist for Walt Disney, she NEVER had any favoritism toward Ritchie or Bob. Ironically, Bob was set to Drive to Burbank with Ritchie on February 20,1959 (The Tour was set to finally end February 17th and Bob had agreed to pick Ritchie up and take him back to Pacoima)to get him signed to Capital Records for help in distributing his Debut LP and Bob had once again been offered to do Cleanup work for Walt Disney. The February 3rd Tragedy, absolutely destroyed all hopes of any of these events occurring.
      The Movie Sorta of got right how Bob got the News. He WAS up that Tuesday Morning at 8 AM and WAS working on his 1942 Chevy fixing the Transmission mount on top instead of the Gear Solenoid in the film version when the Radio flashed by Bob Hale "We've been furiously been trying to tell a story, a story that ended tragically Early this morning in a Sad death that took 3 names in the Music Business. A Small Plane carrying them, went down outside of Clear Lake,IA around 1 AM this morning. Claiming the lives of 4 young men including the pilot. The Musicians identified killed in this crash were Buddy Holly 22, of Lubbock,TX, Ritchie Valens 17, of San Fernando and Jiles Richardson 28, of Beaumont,TX also known as the Big Bopper". As soon as Ritchie's name was mentioned on the Radio, Bob panicked, jumped up and ran to their Mother's house, before he did Rosa was sobbing when she implied that Ritchie indeed was on the Plane. Bob actually ran home shouting "MAMA!MAMA! Before he saw her surrounded by people carrying Ritchie's photo. He fell to his knees in anguish.
      "It was like a Neverending Bad Dream I couldn't wake up from. I wanted to wake up. I wanted it just be a Nightmare I was having. I wanted my Brother to be there with me, with us, Alive and Well. But it was Reality. It was a CRUEL reality. A Sad Joke. Mama got it the worst. Losing a Child is a EVERY parent's Worse Nightmare. My Mom never got over Ritchie's passing. I spent 1959-1960 in desolation and Anger. I was angry at God. At the World. My Brother was only 17. He was just a Kid. How could God allow this to happen? How could he take my little brother away from us like that?The World was ROBBED. Ritchie coulda REALLY made an impact and opened the door for us Latinos. Donna's father was Racist. He forced her to skip Ritchie's First Tour Trip Party. Donna REFUSED to believe that Ritchie was on the Plane. She lived in DENIAL about it and kept telling our baby sister Con Con that Ritchie was going to come home. Other Students actually jeered her and bullied her about the news. Reality for Con Con and Donna set in the next day. They broke down with my Mama"

His mom did not show support at all mybe its because of Bob fathers coz most mothers they turn to hurt the child due to breakups and Bob and said something that his step dad said Ritch will take over the world while he never got that from the man he thought was his dad. When I saw the movie, La Bamba, it broke my heart, such a tragedy, what intrigued me is back in the days people found out everything thru the Radio, now people find out things thru a dam apps, called Tiktok or any social media platform. We have come a long way with technology, sad 😔 that people find out a love one has passed away through a post..😭😵😔💔

    But will always remember the best line that Esai did in La Bamba: "No lie dude, I mean, the pendejo was smoking weed. He was smoking DUKE WEED." "Take a hit, babe. Put a little mota in our loave life." "Baby, I need some ACTION tonight." LOL
