How To Make People Think You Can Play Guitar
Вставка

- Hello. My name is Jared Dines and I’ve been fooling people into thinking I can play the guitar for years. Since you clicked on this video, you must be interested in doing that too. But let's be honest, in this economy nobody has the time to practice. You have parties to go to, friends to hangout with, girls to impress. You want people to think you’re a guitar god without putting in thousands of hours, and I’m here to show you how...

I refuse to learn any music theory because I like the MYSTERY.
Vai and Satriani aren't having any fun......cuz they treat music like plumbing. A banal science.
I used to say 20 years wasted of playing guitar. But I’ve actually tripled my audience in the last few years. I no longer play alone in my room. My wife and kid are there now too.
lmao
LMAO! How big are you planning on growing your audience? Half a dozen kids?
Me too bro! same exact success! I'm up to a room of four captive audience members who surely think I am gods gift to the instrument.
when the cat comes in the room at the same time we make a big deal about the fire limit in our small club for extra gravitas and threaten to call the fire marshall
This is actually wholesome af, that’s my goal
@@thedogefather I’m stealing the fire capacity joke. That’s genius.
Back in my early 20's, I've been practicing classical and fingerstyle guitar every single day for multiple hours. I absolutely refused to strum chords and play popular stuff to which people can sing. During all those years, it only occurred 3 times that I've impressed a girl:
1. I was at a party and didn't know many people. Someone brought a guitar so I though "well, might as well do some practice while I'm here". I started playing Angelina by Tommy Emmanuel and a girl literally ran up to me from a 10m distance while exclaiming "omg, this guy can REALLY play!". She stayed until the end of the song, but I didn't get her later. Some guy with an emo haircut and piercings beat me to it lol. I did impress 2 random dudes though, hahaha...
2. I was playing classical guitar while riding a train home. Last seat in the last wagon, just playing some arrangements for my own enjoyment. At one station, in comes a girl, and although the train was almost empty, she sits right in front of me. She sat there for 45min while listening to me play, she didn't say a word and I didn't wanna start a conversation cuz at that point in my life I really didn't wanna waste my time on girls. Before she got of the train she said "Sorry to interrupt you, I just need to tell you that you are a really talented guitar player". I smiled, said "Thank you!" and kept on playing. Not sure if she was into me or not, but she sure was impressed.
3. While I was doing gymnastics I got injured so I sat on the bench. Next to me was a girl who also had an injury and had to rest there. We got into a conversation and I told her that I play the guitar. She asked me what kind of music I play, to which I just laughed and said "Just some fingerstyle stuff, no one ever recognizes the songs I play". So she said "Try me". I was like "Nah, no way you'd know. Some of them are even Japanese and even some guitarists don't know about them. Like, a dude called Kotaro Oshio for example. There's just no way that..." and she just exclaimed "OMG! You know about Kotaro Oshio?! Look up at the Evening Starts is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard on the guitar!". I was mindblown. That was one of the standard songs on my set list. Turns out she's a piano school graduate and was not only into classical music, but also into fingerstyle guitar artists, anime music and video game music, just like me. So she knew over half of the songs in my setlist. 10 years later we got married and now we have 4 lovely guitars, a healthy keyboard and a cute violin in our living room. :D
A Beautiful family Sir. 👏
What a great story sir.
Wish you bliss
That was so heartwarming and inspirational. You're nurturing hope for many aspiring guitarists looking for love.
You married the right one... but you should have clearly banged the one on the train in the station toilets.
so wholesome, I'm happy for you sir!
my favorite thing about this is that C# minor isn't even that weird of a key. It's actually a super natural key for a guitar if you know how to play major keys at all. It's basically just E major
Mystery solved😂😂😂
bro no one know E Major
It seems like something a metalcore fan would use. 🤔
@@manuebg3685 Whole Whole Half Whole Whole Whole Half start on an E note. Boom you now know E major 🤘(E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D# - If you want the notes)

The most OP move is to noodle quietly and then when someone asks you to play something be like, “nah I don’t want to be that guy” and put down the guitar.
Genius. You just picked up the guitar to mess around, you weren't trying to give a performance.
I do this all the time lol
Yes that's what I do. Like the whole reason I'm playing is to not talk to people leave me alonge.
@@kirkwahmmett1666 Yeah I recently started taking my guitar to social events for that reason. I feel obligated to be there, but I'd rather practice fingerpicking patterns than interact with anyone.
The hilarity in this piece,
From the acting to the writing,
The girl yelling "hey everyone" killed me
Is insane. My day has been arpeggioed
“If you ever stumble upon a chord that’s to hard to play, like an F”… well played 😂
Best way to make people think you can play guitar: practice until your friends forget what you look like
bruh 😂
Or until you lose all your social skills
I achieved both, its useless now because without a network and social skills, I can only enjoy my hour of playing daily between 7 days of double shifts at Dominoes.
@@KrisofS Dominos do make sick pizzas tho 🔥
@@BackgardGuitar I thought the same, until I started making my own custom pizzas, tip for ya: ask for plenty garlic butter with garlic powder on the crust. If you are an employee, pretend that you want to learn how to make the dough amd then make an accidentally large one, so they will let you have a large pizza. If you have a friend at dominoes delivery, order a false delivery to a fake adress and then have your friend ask shiftleader to keep the leftover pizza after the shift.
The cinematic work put into this is the icing on the cake.
Someone noticed
I remember 10 years ago when I first picked up a guitar the only reason I wanted to play was bc "girls liked guys who played guitar" then in college I actually played at a party kinda like that exact scenario and impressed a girl (literally just finger picked 3 chords on loop and hit the guitar for percussion lmaoo)... Now me and said girl have been together for almost 3 years. So, I'd say its accurate.
Glad it worked out for you man!
"Remember, you're not lazy. You're an artist," was gold. I'm stealing that line lol.

JARED should make a video with an aspiring female who comes in with DOLLY PARTON fingers and tries to play guitar!
Ha, the day I went looking for a Stratocaster; had a whole crowd gathered when I blasted off PROUD MARY with all of the bar chords sliding down the fingerboard! I told him I needed a narrow neck guitar to get a better sound!!
WELL DONE, Jared!; You hold that guitar like a real PRO. You should hove been at the Brass Ring years ago, when Delaney and Bonnie were preforming there. I was working with Ben Benay on some originals arrangements; I played a few melodies for him on violin, and he knew I was teaching myself guitar; He said he wanted to show me something that the "guitarists like to use to impress the girls' with!" HE SHOWED ME THE BAR CHORD, ha the Major, the Minors, the 7th; (and yes, the C#Minorj, with a diminished 7th"....THEN he clamped a capo on; WOW Guitar made Easy! WHEN I SHOWED MY FEMALE FRIENDS AND STUDENTS THAT BAR CHORD sliding up and down the fingerboard, I think live band performances lost a major part of their screaming girl fans!
Like to see you use that CHEATER BAR in some of your new videos!

Might need to use this advice for myself because even though I’ve spent the past 6 1/2 years practicing guitar, getting good at sweeping, tapping, etc, and making it onto Jared’s Shred Collab, people still ask me if I can play an acoustic guitar whenever they see me play (I can’t lol)

Actually I play guitar for myself , it makes me feel so happy. So much so that I never needed anyone's compliments to keep me going.
I'm a self taught.
Careful with the alcohol step. Was hanging out with some people a few weeks ago and the fact that I played guitar got brought up. The guy who owned the house walked upstairs and randomly came down with a guitar. I was piss drunk and put on the spot and 8 years of playing shot out the side of my head, and I lost all finger dexterity. I looked like an absolute imbecile lol
Yup. I can play great with 2-3 drinks, 4 or more and I may as well have never picked up the instrument lol
I think everyones a little different when it come to drinking, but completly know where your coming from.
Some poeple do better with out drinking, or light but others get better. One of my best friends
starts drinking when playing, and it's like he Levels up every time he has a beer. lol
In cases like that, play something easy and don't think about mistakes.
Well, the right way is other way around - audience drinking is correct, not the performer :-)
Once, for a friend birthday party, we were drunk as requested (the scene takes place in Bordeaux, France). We were playing "Manouche" Swing (Gipsy Swing), and suddenly people asked us to play guitar, we tried "The Dark Eyes" maybe even faster than what Biréli Lagrène plays, and we must have tortured all gipsy spirits in heaven massacring the track.
Django Reinhardt ghost might have asked himself how he would doom us for this blasphemy.
We didn't get to the end, I was rolling and laughing on the floor quite quickly.
"Im not been playing guitar for a long time. Now i cant even sweep picking"
-the lying legend 🗿
That revelation at the end is such a masterpiece I can't even put into words how hard I laughed
This is awesome!!! I love it Jared keep up the good work. I keep laughing my ass off. Oh and sick guitar.

You came a long way, Stevie T❤
In my experience, the best way of learning is to learn the actual songs and never ever be satisfied with a "beginner" version. Just remember to actually work on unfamiliar techniques as you're learning a song. The best thing about this approach is that you're truly learning the songs you like instead of doing random exercises and learning "practice" songs. This way, I've made more progress in a year than in all the years before that. And you don't have to turn into a hermit to achieve good results. If you want to be the next Steve Vai, then you have no choice but to eat and sleep with your guitar, but being able to play the songs you like and play them well is not that hard. The problem is most people go for the easiest rendition of a song every time, so they never improve. I know, for I was one of them. Now I can easily play and sing like 20 songs at a party (which is not much compared to my friends' tracklists), but I do it well and get positive reactions every time. And I certainly get better reviews than those who can play a million songs, but have to whip out their phones with chords every time they play. If you're staring at your phone or your fretboard all the time, people lose interest in no time.

I would rip into my favourite Iron Maiden song while a dude would play G - Cadd9 - D and people's world would fall apart as they admired the greatest guitarist ever known.
This is essentially the Ed Sheeran way to professional guitarology.

Besides my grandfather teaching me chords i taught myself. You dont need to pay for lessons. There are too many free outlets. Best thing to do is learn the basics and stop there.
