Superman killed Zod in Superman II and no one bats an eye.
Superman killed Zod in Man of Steel and everyone loses their minds!
:)
Nightsilver yup. In the original Zod is powerless thus NOT Superman's equal and Supes breaks his hand and throws him to his death. Then he has a good laugh with Lois.
Studio2770 Exactly. If Zod lost his powers, why would Superman kill him. He could of put him in prison. And to top it all off, he didn't even feel bad about it. Superman kills when it's necessary. When he kills when it's necessary in Man of Steel, everyone loses their shit! Atleast he felt bad about it.
Nightsilver some say the Donner's Cut or a deleted scene from the Donner's cut shows Zod and his peeps getting arrested but if it's not in the actual movie then it doesn't really count.
Studio2770 True
Nightsilver Well, yeah as he should! He didn't just kill someone. He killed one of the last of his original kind, one of the last of his almost extinct kind. I think it was kind of symbolic actually. He had to choose between a innocent human family or a fellow Kryptonian.
Michael Shannon's performance of General Zod is underrated as hell. He brought so much emotional conflict to the character. At no point did I ever think General Zod was evil. I saw a man who was willing to do anything to save his people and it ended up driving him to insanity.
Your move...creep.
-Robocop
+nb45001 Mhm, I mean the other one (names slipped my mind) was entertaining but he was also cheesy as fuck. This Zod gave me chills.
+nb45001 " I exist only to serve Kripton, that is the sole reason for which I was born, and every action I take no matter how violent, or cruel, was for the greater good of my people...and now I have no people..." - Zod
+ShandalfGreyhame Terrence stamp did a good job but you're right, it was cheesy.
Your move...creep.
-Robocop
I loved that bit, it turned Zod from a calculating villain into just a rage machine and I loved both aspects of him, no longer seeking to win or even live, he just wants to make sure that Kal-El goes with him.
He works so well as the embodiment of the problem with the Kryptonian birth programming. He was forced from birth to protect Krypton at any and all costs. So he is a monster because he lacks true individuality. Superman is effectively fulfilling the same role as an incorruptible defender of his home planet. But Superman works because he is a moral being with free will. Zod might as well be Ultron
this is one of the most unbiased review on man of steel
I know it's great
are you sure, it feels more of a review by comic fan, that just watched a live action comic book film.
MoS is masterpiece.
@@tsoupakis Jeremy doesn’t read many comics
@@tsoupakis you can be a fan of something while still giving an unbiased review/opinion on it
holy shit....Jeremy predicted most of Batman v Superman...like three years ago...
ikr
IKR 👌😄HE'S PRETTY GOOD AT THIS
Holy shit indeed!
Haha there's a billboard in I Am Legend that has the Batman V Superman advertisement on it. That's when I started getting suspicious.
+Sorino well i mean there are batman/superman comics with that logo i doubt it was meant to be bvs but to be that so its not that shocking
Spider-Man has a no kill policy. He pretty much forced Gwen to fry Electro to save the two planes from crashing. No one gave shit about that.
Pete pretty much killed Gwen
FinalForkXII no she killed herself , she was ignorant to Peter's concerns of how she isn't a hero but yet she still goes off as if she is
N Dangster Your 100% right. That's why it is considered the end of the *Silver Age of Comics*, because it utterly *destroyed* Peter. Its like an "I am your father moment". He broke her neck by accident, and the film was just bullshit immitation
+N Dangster That movie is terrible you absolute buffoon. Everyone is making fun of that movie. "No one gave shit about that" lol
The Fights scenes were hands down the best Fight scenes in a Superhero film, it look straight outta Dragon Ball Z
+The RED Samurai true that. but the story was horrid
+enjoy5566 How was the story horrid?
+Chad Benjamin yeah the weakest elements came from the script, but thankfully David s Goyer has been fired
superman was fighting like that in comics way before DBZ!!!
or you know just from the actual comics which came out way before the existence of dbz
I always took that Superman killing scene to be the moment where Superman decided not to kill going forward. It affected him so much that he had to establish that rule.
He really didn't want to do it hopefully he can give batman that same motavation again
The way he yells directly after he kills Zod is so heavy. You can really hear the agony in his voice.
@@Woodsman9273 and ppl always tend to ignore this!!
as for part 7:34 to 8:36 i have only one thing to say.
Have you ever thought of getting a job as a screenwriter?
That would've been so badass :')
Thank God he addressed the bullshit anger towards Zod's death. It's my favourite scene in the movie because it's handled perfectly. It's not a matter of opinion, based on the way the story played out and the situation it culminated in, the only recourse Superman had was to kill him.
I have no problem with how it was done however was i really the only solution? He couldve just fly with him out of there or ripped his eyes out or many other options
And he was actually sad about it, unlike superman 2
@@TheBloodmist81 I mean, it's possible Zod could've countered that, futhermore in an intense moment when lives are at risk, would you really be able to think up convenient alternatives
@@AeneasGemini EXACTLY!
@@TheBloodmist81 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 Fly with him were?!? To the Mall? To Hawaii? To pre-long the fight! If he didn't kill Zod then, Zod would've beaten him! Zod is a fighter the only advantage Kal had was his experience with his powers. But, Zod mastered his powers the fight would've been over!
I'm not a crazy superman fan, but I fucking loved this movie. Why, you ask? Because...
WAIT FOR IT
it had DragonBall-esque fights
It was kind of my favorite part of the movie
+Joseph Griffin i understand but superman did it BEFORE goku ;) ,
i LOVE both dragon ball and DC comics. the fight scenes were masterpieces.
lol same-ish...but THE MATRIX-ESQUE FIGHT dbz feeling AWESOMELESS!!!
shane fuller EXACTLY! i was about to write that , that was also epic as hell awesome dbz style.
+shane fuller That final fight from the trilogy came after DragonBall
I don't get why people freaked out about Superman killing Zod at the end, I mean in the Christopher Reeve Superman after he tricked them into losing their powers he pretty much goes out of his war to kill them, he crushes Zod's hand and throws him into the pit, the big guy tries to fly and just falls in and then Lois punches the girl into the pit and people call this the greatest Superman moment ever.
So let's compare:
Man of Steel: Reluctantly kills Zod to save an innocent family and is distraught afterwards.
Superman 2: Tricks Zod into losing his powers so he can straight up murder the guy after crushing every bone in his hand and smiles.
I've said this same thing so many times. People who disagree point out that in the directors cut of Superman II Zod is returned to the phantom zone, but still the first reaction at the end is that crew are all dead, after being reduced to a human state. I'd also like to point out that in Superman II, Superman decides he no longer wants to be Superman, and instead wants a normal life and lays down the mantle of being a hero. I think that act alone is far more shameful than anything wrong with Man of Steel. Also, Man of Steel Superman takes his revenge out on a truck from the bar scene instead of beating the guy down, in Superman II, he is bullied, looses, and then returns after saving the world, picks another fight, and crushes the guy's hand. So even though people say Man of Steel was a let down, if you compare the two "Zod" movies, Man of Steel's Superman is more of an honest and heroic character. In the Zod fight in Man of Steel, Superman is a rookie, and Zod was literally born to be a soldier. Zod does way more damage than Superman does, with Superman getting in a good shot from time to time because he has more raw strength. Zod had more skill because of his training and genetic programing. Bottom line is in this Universe, the phantom zone is closed, and there isn't a chain or jail on Earth that's going to hold either "man". Man of Steel is the best attempt at a Superman movie so far. I am worried about the next installment, but so far I'm pleasantly surprised.
@@jlittle1998 agree. Zod essentially lays down the gauntlet...
*THIS ENDS ONE WAY, KAL. EITHER YOU DIE OR I DO!*
That was it.
Superman is supposed to be smart, maybe he could've just pocked Zod's eyes out.
Dunno, just funny to think about.
the difference is massive. superman 2 is a light hearted goofy fun flick, the “death” is just portrayed as a satisfying defeat. in man of steel, zods death is him getting his neck snapped. the whole dragon ball z fight was cool and all but if zod was sucked into the phantom zone with the other kryptonians, nothing about the movie’s plot or theme would change, so it’s basically just for shock value.
People bitching about him killing Zod, and it being "something Superman would never do" need to go watch Superman II again. *Spoilers*............................At the end of that movie he kills a de-powered and helpless Zod with a smile on his face. Then stands there and does nothing as Zods companions die.
Capt Flea you don't even see Zod actually dying so you're wrong
unknown unknown
Right right. We just see him fall into a dark abyss inside Superman's fortress. I'm sure there were pillows waiting for him to catch his fall. He killed him dude. Don't be a stupid troll
Capt Flea
There is a deleted scene showing he survived lol you MOS fanboys are so desperate with excuses and dumb logic to defend that trash.
unknown unknown
A deleted scene is irrelevant because that means it's not part of the movie. Please explain how it's dumb logic because I am in no way a fanboy. I just hate it when people make a big fuss over something that's not a big deal in a movie. In the DC comics towns, cities, hell even the entire planet has been destroyed by Superman or other characters battles. It's something that IS going to happen when you have Godlike beings going head to head in an all out brawl.
Capt Flea
Unless you can actually prove he really died then you have no argument here, go ahead...
When people used to like DCEU
I definitely think the DCEU could've benefited more if they made a MoS sequel before BvS
When dc had a good heading and wasn't copying mcu
@@Minetic Which was Snyder's plan initially, but WB wanted BvS
Still love it
Technically the DCEU didn’t really exist at this point. I remember people theorizing about whether or not they were gonna tie MOS into The Dark Knight trilogy.
It seems like everyone has forgot the fact, that Superman killed Zod in Superman II.. And not only that, Zod did not possess any superpowers at the time when Superman killed him..
It was out of sight out of mind the way that he killed him in Superman II. This was an in your face, I broke this mofo's neck on screen that people couldn't handle.
The suit was crafted inside the ship when jor el was uploaded to the main frame. It wasn't already there, it was just created by the ships technology by Jor El.
How did so many people not understand that?
I don't think jor el's interface created the suit... and even if it did, not once was it mentioned in the movie.
No, dude. Its a scout ship. That's a kryptonian scout uniform.
Also it was said that the ship was part of the El family.
Probably because that was never established and you’re thinking for the movie now.
@@alexmaverick6647 Finally a lad with some logic in this comment section.
The film has a chronic problem with skipping basic continuity - or in other word - making leaps in logic. Some of these explanations COULD work, but what you're doing is called "writing for the movie" now. The film has a plot hole and you are trying to fill it in with a plausible solution. But the fact remains people that the film didn't bother to explain it. Don't clothe it in intellectual finery and say "YoU jUsT dIdN't GeT iT sImPleToN!"
The neck snapping was the best part of the movie. This is the first time we've seen superman having to make a tough decision to either save an innocent family or the last Kryptonian. In the end, Zod had to die. He'd lost everything and made it clear he was going to kill everyone on earth. He even said during the fight "Theres only one way this ends Kal. Either you die or I do!"
To me man of steel is good when I saw it but each time I saw
It it got better to greater . Henry cavil is really great in man of steel .
Amy Adams is really good . Micheal Shannon is one of the best Zod . The fights in the film are awesome.
SPOILERS
Zod's death is controversial I thought it was amazing and had weight every superhero has to face music and do what you have to
Do.
100/100
One of the best Zod? there have been 2
Zain Peterson Smallville, The Adventures of Superman and Lois Lane
TheBlond49 well yah but this is about movies.
Zain Peterson Well, only movies.
But just in case: Superman / Batman World's Finest, Superman Branisc Attacks, Superman / Batman Public Enemies, Justice League Crisis On Two Earths, All Star Superman
TheBlond49 ONLY MOVIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never get why people get so pissed off that Superman killed Zod. Well lemme check a list here:
Superman 2: Superman threw a weakened Zod into a pit
Injustice Gods Among Us: Superman shoved a fist through Joker's chest
I heard he killed someone named Titan in Smallville
And any other comic book storylines
I actually liked it how he killed Zod, He had to kill his own kind for the survival of the rest. Also, that scream of pain afterwards.. I felt that.. O.O
I am not a hater of that particular scene , though I wonder if snapping the neck was the only option he had ? Maybe he could have flown up with him still in the headlock ? I mean it was possible yes ? Though I would have liked an ending something similar to how Superman killed Doomsday in the animated movie. [without Supes dying I mean :P ] Just an idea folks :)
Arjun Salwan Maybe if he flew him up Zod would've "Accidently" burned them with his eyes. Though I guess it could've happened with the snapping of the neck too. Or afterwards what would have happened? Zod wouldnt have stopped and he couldnt be sent to prison.. so ya.. xD (just saying)
What I mean that snapping the neck was kinda cheap way for Zod to die. I wish there was something even more epic. Like dive bombing from space to earth , while fighting all the way down. Getting what I mean ? :)
Arjun Salwan oh my bad XD Ya.. that wouldve been cool actually xD
I feel like the only people who hated on this movie were the really hardcore superman fans. I thought it was great.
I've said this already in other videos, but my grandpa has been a fan of Superman ever since 1938, and he really enjoyed Man of Steel. Also, ever watch The Angry Joe Show?
yeah occasionally
He absolutely loved Man of Steel. For some reason, I feel he's one of the only people on TGWTG that gave it a positive review.
As a fan of movies, this movie wasn't done very well. I liked what the movie wanted to accomplish, but I thought it was flat.
There are two versions of Superman fans... Superman fans who are also critical thinkers, and the "straight ticket" Superman fans who believe that anything with Superman can do no wrong.
I've seen Man of Steel like 20 times xD
Damn! lol I've probably seen it seven times. Can't hold a candle to 20 though! ha
This is insannnnee lmao
100+ now
I've seen Man of Steel nearly 20 times.
at least 40 times
This how the Jonathan Kent death scene should have gone down.
While the Kents are helping everyone to escape the tornado and hiding under the bridge, Jonathan starts to have a heart attack (since it is a very intense situation). Clark wants to rush him to a hospital using his speed, but Pa Kent tells him no, that too many people are watching. Clark and Martha mourn Jonathan's passing as the destructive tornado passes by in the background.
I think that would've been better than Jonathan dying because he didn't let Clark go save the dog.
N Slater
It was perfect. If he let clark do it, he would've strayed aWay from the protective parent he embodied in that movie.
@@jonathanstarsmoure5791 Lol. 'Perfect'. Because 'let people die for the greater narrative and good of the world, and more importantly - yourself (selfishness)' was a great teaching moment on Jonathan's part. 'Are you saying he should have let the bus full of kids die?' 'Maybe' - was another one. You can break down what Jonathan wanted, and also then smack the shit out of his logic on paper, and show that there are better ways in all of that, and he comes across as a bit... Deranged.
"the fact that she didn't sit on his face in front of the entire US army, that is remarkable restraint on her part "
I think Man of Steel is awesometacular:)
However, the terraformer having hentai tentacles makes sense. They need a defense mechanism that can adapt to any environment because it needs to adapt in different planets.
Read this while Jeremy rants this
Finally someone talking sense on Man of Steel, bravo.
So fed up of hearing people yap on about _"This is not what Superman is about"_ _"This is not my Superman."_ while forgetting that as an origin story it would be idealist and frankly unrealistic to expect Superman to be the perfect Superman with perfect morals right from the jump. If he was perfect from day dot his character would have nowhere to go.
People acting like he should just KNOW how to be Superman from the moment he puts on the suit and they forget he is basically a novice at this stage! He has to experience things that help him establish his moral fibre before he can have any conviction about them and carry them out with any integrity. Who's to say that Killing Zod helps him establish a rule in his life that that is the first and _last_ time he will _ever_ resort to something like that? His experiences will shape him and he'll grow into the Superman people have come to expect. But the fact that he was flawed in this movie was more realistic to his humanity than if he'd made all these righteous decisions.
I enjoyed the whole movie. I understood everything because I know 99% there is to know about him. I know he killed Zod is a very angry moment for fans but It is to show Superman is not God and he isn't perfect so he'd do what 89% of people in the world would do. The flashbacks were random but they showed key parts of his life which made me understand. A lot about him. It wasn't the best action movie in the world but it still entertains. As a Superman fan I'd give this movie an 8/10 but because I don't care what anyone thinks Ill give it a 9/10.
You people don't appreciate an original take on the omvie, everyone expected not to kill him, so he did, what? You want them to make the movies EXACTLY like in the comics? That would be boring, have some element of surprise in it, focus on a different approach, that's what I personally like to see in these superhero movies, so yep.
I think they should focus on bringing the general characters/other elements from the comics onto the big screen, but originality is good like in the dark knight trilogy.
I think they made Jonathan Kent die in a tornado because that shows how brutaly honest and unegoistic he was about what he said to Clark (If you should let other people die in the bus, you must do the same for me)
Oh thats a great thought!
people have complained about superman killing people in the buildings he flew through, flying through the buildings was a quicker way to get to the problem so he uses X-ray vision to make sure no one is in the section of the building he is about to fly through, if there were people in the building he would have swerved around, that's just an idea.
I mean flyinf through the buildings, even in empty sections, would've still caused structural damage that would've still led to deaths, not blaming the guy for it (had to be done), but still
@@AeneasGemini The only building he flies through is the 7/11 in a blind rage when Zod threatened his mother (something he quickly came out of when they landed and he saw the result of that lack of discipline) every other building he goes through he was thrown through.
Jeremy I completely agree with you 100%… Less action could have been more, and everything else did work well.
In Tim Burton's cancelled film Superman Lives the producer Jon Peters wanted Superman to fight a spider or octopus like creature at some point in the movie. When I watched Man of Steel and saw those tentacles that Superman fights I thought is was a homage to that. Then I saw that one of the producers of Man of Steel was Jon Peters so I definitely think he put the tentacles in the movie.
12:15 - 12:29
And with that Jeremy Jahns created Batman v Superman.
Though the AI is called OMAC or Doomsday and not Braniac :P
+carrastealth Want to clarify now?

Goddammit Jeremy.
HOLY SHIT. HE DID.

it was the best superman movie. end of discussion.
Yea but there was not a lot of competition

+habib ahmed it stunk. open discussion
+habib ahmed The amount of religious references were insane. I don't need to have that shoved down my throat in movies too.
+Yasha Unknown I hated that too. Still enjoyed the film a lot but the Jesus imagery was waay OTT.
i guess Zack Snyder watched this video and decided to make BvS
Danny SJ That's not true. BvS was originally planned to just be MoS2 before they changed it.
*Faora* is the name of the chick..... and yes, she's a badass.... I want her and *Zod* in the next Injustice game... :P
Diego De Souza Zod is a DLC character in Injustice but I hope Faora will make an appearance in the sequel :D
***** I think she went to the Phantom Zone at the end.
"Then General Zod comes to earth and starts acting like a dick"
I love the way you review movies xD
This is the most level-headed and sensible review I've seen for Man of Steel. Too much unwarranted hate exists for this movie. Great job ***** !!
Still watching in 2015.
This was probably the best review i've seen/read about this movie. You were honest in both good and bad, and seriously, man, your suggestion for how the scene with the World Engine should have happened is genius. That emotional punch would have worked wonders for the movie, especially since the most emotional scenes involve his fathers, especially the one where Clark says "Can't I keep pretending I'm your son?" and Jonathan says "You ARE my son!" and hugs him. T_T
I have been been your silent subscriber for a while now. I really appreciate your unbiased takes on every movie review. That said, your analysis of the world engine scene in MOS hit me..really hard. This is coming from a person who loves Man of Steel (but still realizes it has it flaws from a movie making standpoint). I think you really nailed that scene with just the right emotional context. This should have been in the movie. I wish I had seen this video before so i could have dropped this comment a lot earlier. Keep doing these reviews with an open mind, like you always do.
Man of Steel is better than Avengers because Avengers ending is just the Phantom Menace, explode space ship and robots malfunction. :I
No

yes
yeah, and thor not being able to lift his hammer, bruce being able to control his rage for plot reason and also capt. murica gets aids from bloody baseball cards
Dont get me wrong, i loved Avengers, but enjoyed Man of Steel more. I love Superman tho!
Is this a joke?
The most annoying part of the movie for me was when his father died. I mean he died trying to save a dog? That was blocked in a car? Really? That scene really made me laugh because it was too stupid and didnt make sense.
Ok bub, people really care about their dogs. I lost my dog last September and it was like loosing a member of the family. If I saw my dog in that car about to be caught in a tornado, you bet you ass I would have ran to save her.
batdan530
Dude that's not his point.
The point is Clark could have saved them all. And the fact that everybody in this movie acts so calm when they die is just stupid
batdan530
No you wouldn't.
I understand if you think this is stupid, I mean clearly they went in a different direction with this film and its obviously going to anger people. But who said Johnathan Kent had to be perfect or logical or rational all the time. He is a parent not Yoda not Mr. Miyagi nor Morpheus he is not all wise and all knowing he is a man who deeply loves and cares for his son, I think the movie did a good job of communicating that message whether or not its wise to save the dog and not let Clark that's debatable but its not unreasonable that as a father one would do that to protect their son regardless of their super powers.
Yours is one of the best reviews I've seen. And no... not just because I agree with you, but more WHY I agree with you. I've read elsewhere about many plot holes (you can see some in what's wrong with The Man of Steel in 6 minutes or less, etc.), but half of them are internally self fixing if you just pay attention. After all, a good movie doesn't just tell you everything, it SHOWS you, and if you miss a detail, it's easy to perceive something else as a plot hole.
I love your enthusiasm here Jer. And this film is getting better with time like fine wine.
10:19 he also killed Ra's al ghul, "I won't kill you, but I don't have to save you" he let him die in other words he killed him by leave him in that train, but he didn't let the the Joker fall to his death because?
If anyone, Gordon killed him. He blew out the train track.
And I guess Harvey Dent push himself out of that bulding :D
*****
Well in the same movie Batman showed that his armor can stand falls from higher buildings than the one Harvey fell, why not save them both the same way he saved Rachel?
That wouldn't quite work out, since he'd have to hold two people, and take the brunt of three people falling (Himself, Harvey, and the boy). Considering that, there was no guarantee that the boy would survive if Batman hadn't taken the actions he took. So, in saving the boy, he had to let Harvey fall to his death, unfortunately.
Getting Batman to kill him was precisely what the Joker wanted to happen; he really didn't care what happened to himself, all he cared about was that his point, that anyone can go over the edge and break their moral code, was proven right, and Batman was not about to let that happen. It was for the greater good.
7 years later, Jahns is looking like Jor-El.
this movie was fantastic. too much action, true, but still really fantastic.
lexodius the action scenes in Avengers were similar length.
i didnt like the avengers movies really. i cant find the deeper meaning in them.
Jeremy:"I just don't know who he's gonna fight in the sequel."

Warner Brothers: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Official Reveal Trailer
SOOOO GLAD that you talked about the kryptopnian woman, I forgott her name though, something like Taora-Ul. She was sooo badass. I like her especially because of how different she is from all these other "badass sexy" girls from movies. She doesnt need a skin tight suit, or high split kicks. She uses brute force. She was sexy in the way that she really was powerful and confidennt, but not in the "sassy and sexy" way that characters such as The Black Widow and Cat woman were portrayed (not that I dislike those characters). Not to mention her accent made it all 10x better.
Faora-UL. in some continuities she is zod's wife. i loved her in the movie :)
Ah thanks, just barely got the name wrong...she was indeed amazing in the movie, the actor did really well.
To be honest, with the neck breaking thing it would have had to happen eventually. Lets be real, there would be no way to imprison Zod with the current knowledge of the Kryptonians in this movie, hell not even Clark knows anything about his race other than what Jor-El tells him. Synthesized kryptonite isnt a thing yet either. Eventually, Zod was going to have to die and this is the way they did it. I liked it, it felt like Clark choosing between his race or his home and I think they did a really good job with it.
The reason superman killed zod could be found in what zod said before he died. Superman was pleading him to stop and zod said "never" which meant even if superman stopped him from killing the family they would've kept on fighting or zod would just go around trying or succeeding in killing people. There's no way to subdue zod without killing him. The phantom drive is gone there's no prison on earth to confine a kryptonian with the strength of the yellow sun. So that's why I think zod had to die
My God. If they would have done your idea of the tentical scene Jeremy...I would have stood up and yelled "F*ck yeah!!!!!" in the theatre after Superman destroyed the planet ship.
my first viewing i hated it. but the more i watch it, the more i appreciate it. i feel there is alot you can miss if you dont pay attention or dont care. people were expecting to be spoon fed the film, like the avengers (no hate on marvel, theyre just very different) instead of diving into the movie and seeing it for what it is deep down. people complain it was too dark, but it wasnt. it was just realistic there is a difference. i thought it was very uplifting, with superman trying to find his destiny to lead humanity. ill say it, this movie is underrated gold, and one of my favorites. its not the movie that was bad. ironically, the world just wasnt ready for man of steel.
Nipple Juice hell yes friend
FiZzLE 030 interesting, because it was the exact opposite for me lol. First time viewing was the best; rewatching it 2 years later and thought it was meh
FiZzLE 030 I agree. I watched the movie in the theater and I absolutely hated it because I didn't understand the story. I watched when it came out on DVD as I didn't understand it at first. Then I absolutely LOVED Man of Steel!. I think the hate is completely unnecessary. People complain that Metropolis was annihilated but if you look closely while Zod and Kal-El were flying, there were lots of buildings that weren't destroyed. People expect perfection from Superman but he wore the cape for 1 day. Obviously people will die in the process. Especially when he's against another kryptonian.
TheGoldenRule all depends on the point of view you see the film. its either transformers, or gold.
Personally I'm the opposite. The first time (or two) I watched it I quite liked it. Then I bought it on Bluray, watched it, and I didn't like it. The action was the best its ever been but the script was a bit hard to sit through
I didn't have a problem with the testicle scene until you started at about 7:50 and then I was like JESUS FUCK THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT.
It's the only thing I would change about the movie!
*tentacle
You have unknowingly just made this film all the more intrested/perverted to those who have yet to watch Man Of Steal.
Man Of Steal: Now with more Stealing.
I never actually played Metal Gear 4 and I already know that would have been awesome
But on the other hand, it kind of would have been a major plot hole if Zod had just sent half of his ship to the other side of the Earth to create Krypton and Aquaman with no protection whatsoever.
And yeah, that's probably how they're going to make Aquaman
Bahahahahahahahahahaha
That was hilarious. I'm dying xD
been 2 years, still like rewatching your review.
There's a suit at the 20,000 years ship because it's was an El ship.
Also caped onesies are what all Kryptonians wear, so it's not unrealistic to have one with the hope emblem on it already.
**mindblown**
I've always felt that the suit was created as a result of the command key being inserted. In addition, I thought it was made out of the same liquid-metal the command key came from.
I agree I never understood what's it is with these critics shitting all over this movie. In my opinion this was the 1st EVER superman movie done right. Yes it isn't without it's flaws.. But even the dark knight wasn't perfect but it's still one of the best. Lighten up people. Take it for what it is n stop comparing it to the comics. No comic book movie comes straight off the page. They all tweek it a lil. Except for like sin city...
The movie gets hate just because trying be and is abit different of what is most pop today, even the cast and producers behind the movie are people who wants to explore, and just for that.
ikr, superhero comic books are always retconed, reboot, reimagined so it can and will go off the borders, except for watchmen which I find the movie excellent and very underrated
I rarely agree with someone about a movie more than like 60%. But I agree with Jeremy like 99%! It was an awesome movie if it wasn't for that extensive action. More heart would make this awesometacular!
Jeremy Jahns WITHOUT a beard!
Good times!
Perfect review Jeremy, u nailed it. U addressed all the problems that I had it makes me feel good!
MoS was a 8.8/10 for every reason that Jeremy addressed nice job :)
Lmao the fact that she didn’t just sit on his face in from of the military 😂😂😂😂
That line killed me! 😂 some of the things Jeremy says is just comedic gold 😂
I still watch your man of steel review whenever I can. Such a cool review. I loved man of steel. Watched at theatres, 7 times, 3 cities (two countries, 3 Imax shows). And bought the blu ray! Also watch man of steel when it's on tv. Also I love the soundtrack and I think this was one of hans zimmers greatest works. What did you think about the music? Thank you for this perfect review of man of steel!
I agree I like your insight on his father's death, but I also did really enjoy the tornado scene because Superman was reminded of what it means to be a part of mankind, especially after being assertive that he was not a human like his father just moments earlier. Even being as vincible as Johnathan Kent was, he decided to be a hero at that moment. He no longer questioned that he could live among the humans. Superman still learned valuable lessons aside from the fact that the world wasn't ready to see him.
Love this Movie!! By far my favorite Superman and Superhero movie!
"I do not have any trust in you. Where's Magog?"
Ha, a "Kingdom Come" reference! Nice.
XD i said the same thing
I agree with most of what you said.
I do think that starting with kryptonians was a bold move since now they don't have as many "amazing" bad guys. I like how they handled Clark/Kalel's thing with Louis. The suit being at the ship... Meh.
The tentacles? Hated it.
And then, there's Zod... That chick woulda been a better new villain. She was awesome.
I never had a second thought about the tentacles at the terriforming machine, and now that I think about, I agree. I was a little out of place. They could've have made it to where the machine had safety precaution and shot Supes with Kryponite guns mounted on the top, thus having a set up for Kryponite for further movies. I love these videos. You got a sub from me ;D
Honestly, what was Superman supposed to do with Zod? If he didn't kill him, what do you do?
Imprison him? You can't, nothing holds Kryptonians on Earth. What, is superman supposed to hold him in that position forever? But lets assume they could, then what?
Give him a trial? By who? A jury of his peers? They all got sucked into the Phantom Zone. The only peer he has is Superman.
And if it were a military court, the sentence would have been death. So in every case, Zod ends up dead.
Well what I would of done is just fly up then the family wouldn't be in danger.
Paddi Tuohy
Then what? What do you do with Zod after that?
What was he going to do if Zod was never trying to kill a family? Maybe run him to buildings, killing civlians? Derrh
But breaking his neck would be the only solution to Zod.
Paddi Tuohy
One thing I think most people forget is that Clark isn't Superman until after he kills Zod. It's that moment when he becomes the Superman we all know. He didn't have the experience with his powers to really know what he was capable of, so a lot of people got killed. Yeah, it's a little fucked up I guess, but I like that they bothered to show us the kind of traumatic experience you'd have to have to develop an unshakable moral compass like the one Superman has; he needs to know exactly how wrong things can go before he can really do right.
2:24 Zod told Kal-El that the ship in the glacier was a non manned spacecraft to some day go and research on that planet and it was a ship of the El clan, that's why the suit was in there.
What a fucking coinqudick
Damn Jeremy made a fantastic point about the second World Engine scene. That's why you're the man with the channel, dude man.
this movie is so under rated why, we need a little darkness in the story and Zack Snyder knows how to direct something like that
Absolutely everything i'd hoped it would be! some quirky stuff I could have done without but didn't hurt my personal experience... and I felt the Story and set up and delema's both moral and personal are wayyyy too underrated. For example... A year 1 or 2 superman would have gotten Pa Kent out of the tornado without anyone seeing him.. or totally dissipated the tornado by flying around it or something... But that was not Superman, that was Clark... Superman shows up for the first time in smallville... and should the entire Snyder Arc be exposed (through his cuts and Ultimate edition of BvS etc) i think most people will be happy these years later...
Loved it. Best big screen adaptation of Superman in my opinion. Looking forward to see where it goes in the sequel. Especially when you throw in Batman and Lex in the mix.
First movie was great, but already have the feeling that they ruined the sequel.
I hear ya. It definitely is getting setup for potential failure with all the hype. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they will put out another quality film.
I love how Lois is the only one who recognizes Kal at the end since she's the only one who works there that actually got a close enough and long enough glance to see a difference. I also like how some people argue that Brainiac could be the one who led Lois out of the Kryptonian ship in the form of a holographic Jor-El.
Spot on and killer review. I mean you nailed it on all fronts. And yes, I am very late to the party. The one and only thing that you did not address that I felt made this movie even better than it already was, was the score by Hans Zimmer. He did a fantastic job creating an original Superman score, and for me it was next level material.
To all the people bitching about the destruction at the end of the movie:
Okay, yes, I'll admit, on one hand the destruction was a bit over done, but on the other I absolutely love it. It shows perfectly what would happen if two people that were, essentially, gods, went all out in the middle of a heavily populated city, and how much of a fallout it would have on the area.
Also, at the part where Superman kills Zod. Jeremy explains it great, Superman gave Zod every chance he could to stop, and when he didn't, did what was necessary to save the lives of an innocent family caught at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Overall I love Man of Steel, by far my favourite Superman movie to date.
I think Metropolis getting trashed was good to have in the movie, and KIND OF the same thing with him killing Zod. This is the first thing Superman had to deal with. You wonder why he came up with the no killing rule? This movie shows you how. Wonder why Superman is always going out of his way to save people and minimize damage? This movie shows you why. It develops his character so he's more careful in later movies. I do want to see him not killing people and keeping up with damage control in BVS though, that way we'll know he learned his lesson from MOS.
7 years later, and still a wonderful review 🤘
I like how his suggestion for a Man Of Steel sequal is literally the beginning of The New 52 Action comics series.
Best film of the year.........but it had too much smashing through buildings!
that's one of the things I liked the most ;)
.
So how come is it too much then? :P
agree with you.
Dominique Deguire The action between the Kryptonians looks amazing, its just they destroyed metropolis.
Loved it.
THANK YOU! I was so wondering when someone would see that this the one situation when even a superhero has to kill the villain.
As much as I loved Man of Steel, I have to agree that the tentacles were over the top, and your idea was absolutely fantastic. It definitely would've added some welcome gravitas to the end of the film.
I loved Man of Steel!!!! It totally blew my mind when I First saw it.
Hey Jeremy, I agree with everything you mentioned, bar one caveat:
The suit wasn't IN the ship for 20k years, it was fabricated by the ship after Kal inserts the shard and Jor El is uploaded to the ship.
That scene was meant to show that his suit was essentially made by his father, then and there, out of the Kryptonian nano-material.. thing. That's why it doesn't just disintegrate.
well why was that not explained in the movie?
Jeremy Jahns' spoiler talk is somthing else
I love your thoughts. I watch your videos on 2x speed (hahah its much more entertaining to see you speak and think that fast)..but almost every single one of your videos, I agree like 100% on. You're the man. I'm a HUGE fan. I'm gonna watch all your reviews. the only other guy whose reviews I almost always agreed with was this guy called Mr. Black.. does anyone else remember "MrBlacksMovieReviews"??? so good, dont know what happened to that guy
i have seen lot of hated against man of steel because they always underrate this movie.. but i loved this movie it was awesome..... and your review is unbiased and i loved it
after bvs I have come to the conclusion that critics hate dc and love marvel iron man 3 has 79% on rotten tomatoes same as fight club wtf
Greatest superman movie ever.
I love when he mentioned how it would’ve been cool if In the third act Clark heard Jonathan’s voice telling him he was sent to earth for a reason and then they do it in Zack snyders justice league
Absolutely loooved it. Took me forever to see ur but totally worth it. As a beyond movie fan/lover cousmer absolutely loved it
"It's not like he snapped his neck, pissed on his face, and said 'Good!'" (Middle finger) Favorite Jeremy Jahns moment ever.
This is a masterpiece
Hey Jeremy, can you make a video where you talk about your top 10 favourite superhero movies?
holy fucking batshit jeremy your theory about aquaman was bang on even zack snyder has said that WAS aquaman that sent the whales to help superman but you said that aquaman himself set the oil rig up in flames,i hope that is addressed in batman v superman gives him a good reason to come ashore and raise this issue,mr jahns i salute you.
Couldn't agree more. Sometimes less action is more.
Just bought it on Blu Ray 2 nights ago...been waiting to watch this video for months lol
ehh i still watched it even when i never saw the movie. lol
Totally agree with you on the neck-snapping scene.
One of my favorite scenes was in the midst of the Smallville squabble, there's a moment where Superman is thrown and lands in a random yard or some'in, and just by chance he sees the one guy who used to be a school-bully but then got respect for him, and the two just look at each other like "Hey! That guy! How ya been?" and then Superman regains his composure and jumps back into the fight; it's such a cool little moment; that ex-bully character overall had a nice little sub-plot that was never even mentioned, it was just sitting there in the midst of the larger stuff and it lent character where character was so badly lacking in this film ... and yes, that Kryptonian lady was a stone-cold badass.
