This movie gets better every year that goes by. Phenomenal movie. And the more you watch it with the intent of watching and not hating, you pick up on a lot of the emotional depth and characters. One of my fave Superhero movies of all time. Shannon as Zod was great too.
I've loved this movie since everyone hated on it. So glad to see there are people who feel the same as me.
I just watched it for like the 12th time (since it released) and I agree. I just don't understand why critics like Stuckman don't see this as at least an A or 9 out of 10. There are rapid scene transitions and at times it moves like a dream would where there is no transition you just go from one setting to the next like the scene where they have Superman arrested and he says lets put our cards on the table and the next scene has him and Louis in the desert awaiting Zods pickup. To me that's not a problem but I thin it is for critics like Chris.
I'll go one further and say this is better than the first Reeves Superman movie and I was a kid and saw that one at the theatre as skid at release so its not a case of me being young and watching MAN OF STEEL first and thus it being my preference. I just think it's better over all. I think Cavil is a better superman than Reeves albeit not much.
Lol no, it was an abomination
That movie was boring and repetitive. It had some cool scene's...
Really? I’ve had the opposite effect woth repeated viewings
this movie is a good introduction to the DC Cinematic Universe and has awesome fights, CGI and action
8.2/10 and very underrated
Dont get all the hate lol
Ralf 24 Superman does kill in the comics, Injustice game and also in the theatrical cut of Superman 2
very solid movie. the opening sequence is amazing!
doody magoob indeed so ;)
I thought the intro was better than the Reeve's one
doody magoob really? i see you everywhere and i didn't expect you to like it. huh. no offense.
This film has grown on me so much
Garrett Pity
Garrett me as well
Same
This movie has always ben special to me.
It’s done the opposite for me haha
Henry Cavill was amazing as superman
IKR what the heck happened in Batman v Superman?!?!
Ajayz Horrible writing. Henry Cavill is great when he's allowed to actually act with the character. Hence why Man of Steel was so good
Henry cavill has 0 charisma such an awful actor, worst superman
@@thingsicantfind9545 obvious troll is obvious.
The Troll Killer its really sad you go around defending this bland boring mess
Best fight scenes I've ever seen in a superhero movie. I'm glad Zack didn't abuse slow motion in this one. They felt so real, like, that's how it'd look to our eyes.
I thought Michael Shannon was a great villain. Whenever I'm looking for my keys or my matching socks I yell out "I WILL FIND THEM!"
And yet they allude me every time… always on the move… it’s hard being vigilant
Just watched it again after Snyder’s justice league, and it’s so much better than I remember from when I first saw it. Ahead of its time for sure.
not really… shakey cam and CGI are already dated lmao
I enjoyed this movie. It didn't feel like a Batman Begins, but more like a remake of the first one. Just wished there were a bit more character depth added to the characters and tone down the destruction.
He did not kill in the first one.
+BadAssIceKing The classic or Man of Steel? He...ok, "manslaughtered" a lot of people to save lives.
The FirstBourne Which people?
Yes it seems supes gave zero fucks about the civilians during his fight with zod
Marcus Clark At least he fixed it with time travel. (I only watched the Richard Donner Cut).
i’d give man of steel an A, it would A+ if like chris stuckmann said, it had breaks between the epic scenes. in my opinion the figh scenes were the best ever coreography in movie history
For me Man Steel is spetacular, is not just a fun movie, is great as a movie, A++.
man of steel was terrible
+Joe Bryant Man Of Steel was great.
Joe Bryant Your opinion is not a fact, and I don't care about your opinion.
+Lucas Vieira Galvão man of steel was a cgi piece of shit with no character development and a lot of plot holes and it was a big disappointment to me and a lot of other superman fans
Joe Bryant CGI combined with practical effects, it has character development, littl plotholes (people who see that don't pay attention), this is the best live-action Superman movie ever.
RT's ratings are surprisingly low.
because its terrible
@@steveb7932 well would you look at this, we’re both 7 years late.
@@steveb7932 It’s been 7 years since the comment was made lmao, and how is that movie terrible lmfao?
@@darkseidwavyy boring, terribly shot, wooden acting, generic villain. Anyone who has any semblance of taste in film would recognize this, sorry.
@@steveb7932 you think Zod is generic? alright then :00
I think people just don't fully understand the movie. The plot is masterful. That Zod isn't natural he can't do he want. He was programmed to protect krypton.
masterful is an extreme overstatement
Stop insulting people's IQ by claiming we didn't understand what was a very very straight forward film.
What was there in MoS to NOT understand? The dialogue was clunky, the themes and imagery were laughably obvious.
The fact that you guys think there are things in this film that are complex enough to "not get" speaks more to how shallow the ideas were and how easily duped audiences are
+Kingslayer64 well said. This film didn't feel like Supes. They did whatever they liked with the character and put a Supes suit on him.
+Angel Colòn yeah- the issue wasn't that Snyder "changed him". This film simply didn't develop him at all. He looks the part, finally shows off his "badass" superpowers, the film was humorless, and tells us it's deep- that's enough for some people I guess
Kingslayer64 the movie more or less tries to make us think it's deep. When really you can tell the script was just rushed. And what the fuck happened to Zack Snyder?! I watched Dawn of the Dead the other day and I can honestly say that movie was fucking great. And it was a straightforward 24-30fps MOVIE. Now he makes 2 hour music-videos that double as marketing campaigns for SEARS and IHOP. And all he does is speed things up or slow them down. He could be a great filmmaker but it's as though he's just filling in the blanks around the action scenes
Thank you for this one Chris. Giving an objective and rational opinion on the film. I'm so sick of whiny fanboys making this out to be some sort of cinematic abomination when their only argument is that it wasn't what they expected.
This movie is amazingly underrated.
Man of steel was one of the best DCEU movie every created and i love it
I liked the movie.I have it on Blu ray.
killerrodan hell yeah
@@predatoreusfilms9992 At least, it's better than Superman 3 and 4. Still isn't a masterpiece but it's far from the worst.

superman return sucks
Superman (1978): A
Superman II: A
Superman III: D
Superman IV: F
Superman Returns: C+
Man of Steel: A
Batman v Superman: B
Someone with the same opinion as me... (Really hard to find someone like that lol) however I'd only give BvS a B for the ultimate cut.
I agree 100%
Agree except I'd give superman returns a B and BvS a C+
Actually, MOS is probably more a B+
Let me fix your grading for you:
Superman (1978): A
Superman II: A
Superman III: C
Superman IV: D
Superman Returns: B+
Man of Steel: C
Batman v Superman: didn't see it, but the premise is stupid that a mortal could possibly have a chance against superman, so it gets and F- -
No character depth? The problem was too much character depth. People just didnt process it
*Things that absolutely cannot be denied about Man of Steel:*
1. Hans Zimmer's score was one of the best in a superhero movie, and one of his best compositions. The Grand but Humble score fits Superman perfectly.
2. Zod was a great villain - better than all the Marvel villains so far (including Loki) - and better than older Superman movie villains. He was justified evil and didn't monologue, preach or mess around.
3. Action and fights were unprecedented and unparalleled by any other superhero movie. E.g. Kal vs Faora and Nam-Ek, and Kal vs Zod.
4. One of the most visually stunning CBMs of all time. E.g. Planet Krypton sequence, Terraforming scenes.
If I would give it a score, it would be 8.5 or 9 out of 10. It was a great movie in my opinion - and also can be considered a masterpiece. Great review Chris Stuckmann!
Also, visit this UA-cam channel: "ManOfSteelAnswers" and this website: www.manofsteelanswers.com/ to clear up any misconceptions you have about the film.
Richard Jones Dude all of those things are easily denied. Zodd was terrible and Thor 2 villain (worst in marvel history) was on par with Zod. . Action sucked and was predictable. Krypton was nice, but the final fight looks ps2 at times.
Richard Jones I kind of agree with a couple those points, except for Zod as a villain and to a point, the action. I thought Zod was an ok villain, probably better than the villains in previous Superman movies, but definitely not better than all Marvel villains (I'm not trying to turn this into a DC vs. Marvel thing), and while I did think the action was great, I don't think I'd say it's the best in a superhero movie.
Our last hero Hmm let's discuss then.
What Marvel villains do you like more? For me, Loki comes close. Winter Solider was awesome too.
Zod is better because he had sound motivations, did what he was supposed to do, didn't monologue, didn't show off, and didn't idly fret. He's a villain you can believe with a point of view you can support - you could also think of him as a "hero" as you understand his motivations. So he is therefore a more fleshed-out character.
Yeah you're right about the action not being the best - but I said they were "unprecedented"...and to your point, I myself do think it is *one of* the best (if not the best).
What action scenes did you like (better) from other movies?
I justbrecently saw _Thor_ for the first time, and I don't see why everybody thinks Loki is so great. Sure, he was fine, but not the best villain ever.
I will say the Avengers action scenes were slightly better due to the teamwork
Just rewatched it the cgi holds up better than newer movies such as endgame or even the Snyder cut and Hans Zimmer’s score is just jaw dropping makes you get goosebumps this was a great Superman movie! Sad that Henry might not return and Zach won’t continue the justice league franchise Bc the Snyder cut was actually amazing to me.
true. I just couldn't get how the CGI went bad in BvS when it's superb in MoS.
I never understand why people say there was no human element to this movie. There were plenty of scenes with Pa Kent, Ma Kent, Clark with Jor-el, Jor-el and his wife, etc. And I also get tired of the comparison to Chris Reeve. He was the Superman of the 70s-early 80's. Totally different era, totally different tone.
and they didnt have the internet back then. Nowadays you can't watch a trailer without the comment section destroys the movie in advance
Southern Picking With Resale Rookie Also When He Kill Zod (The Last Person f His Planet), Superman Screams Like Hell. Nobody Noticed That Scene
Johnathan Kent's lessons and actions are stupid, especially when he runs into the twister and tells Clark Kent to not save him and let him die.
Hey Chris! I really think the movie deserved at least an A- because the director "Nolan" really through a curve ball at us, with the somewhat of a dark upbringing of the man of steel, and made it ROCK!
Nolan did not direct it, Zack Snyder did.
U know what I mean lol I liked the twist
very great movie
saw it last night and i dont get the hate
i would give it an A-
U only saw it this yr?????? IT WAS MADE IN 2013!!!!!!
+Master Amuser he could be watching on the telly
I give it a A+
Hate? Its got an A-cinemascore and a 7.2 IMDb score and a 75% RT audience score.
M0HAMED-Immortal anything made by Zack Snyder doesn’t go well with critics. I honestly don’t think his movie on the Watchmen comic was bad at all. With the time given to him I think he did the best with the resources he was given.
Great review! I surprisingly love Man of Steel after reading all the bad reviews it received. Now I won't trust Rotten Tomatoes. I would give this movie an A. It's not perfect, but it's definitely the best and the most underrated Superman movie we've got. Zack Snyder is an underrated director, and he deserves more credit and respect than he should've got.
Wow. I love you for crediting Zack. That dude has the best passion as a director since Tarantino.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
+Tony MangKb Well, pretty much every movie the guy makes has a passionate fan base. So he's guaranteed to get a ton of hate.
Dawn of the Dead: Remaking a classic Zombie film with a passionate fanbase and even doing some (imo necessary) changes like making the zombies able to run? Even though reasonable fans recognise the film as a good remake that doesn't really hurt the original, he got a shit ton of hate before the film was even released.
300: Adapting a comicbook, get hate for doing stuff the way they were in the comic (historical inaccurates etc.)
Watchmen: Adapts one the best graphic novels ever, a book that was deemed "unfilmable". Changes stuff and leaves stuff out (it's a movie after all), mainly the ending (which I still don't understand the hate for, please someone try to explain to me how the comics ending would've fitted better to a *movie*). Also gets shit for making it darker and more brutal than the comic, but somehow some fans of the graphic novel missed that when it was released. Watchmen was just that for comics. The film just does the same thing, but for a time that has more dark comicbook stuff in it.
Sucker Punch: Easily his worst film (I still enjoy it). A lot of hate probably comes from people think it's anti-feminist(?!?!) and due to it "sucker punching" the people who saw it just for sexy girls and action. Great idea, flawed execution (not easy to realise what the film is about.)
Owls of Ga'hoole: Other movie based on something that has a fanbase. I haven't seen the film so I can't comment.
Man of Steel: Do I even need to say anything?
Connor Morley 👍👍👍👍👍👍
An A... its so bland and boring and the cinematography is so empty. wow, the mainstream public is not very bright
I personally prefer this one over the 1978 original, mainly because I thought the pacing was 1k better than the original, if anyone's seen the original, you know that Superman doesn't get to Earth until 25-30 minutes into the film!
Its about 20 minutes in MoS isn't it?
Yeah, well it's a lot better pace than the original, they don't waste any time, like they did in the original, see 'Everything Wrong with Superman' for more details
Dude I prefer MoS. It's actually the only Superman movie I've ever enjoyed. It had problems, but I think it speaks to me because I wasn't a big fan of Superman, and it gave me a different side of Superman. I could see how fans of the character might be pissed at it.
I was never a huge fan of Superman character either, but now after seeing MoS, I think I like him more by a decent amount.
Miner4Life99 I didn't like Superman before Man of Steel either. After seeing the movie, I started to like the more sympathetic and reliable version of Superman from the film more.
I really liked that Snyder brought us back to the beginning again. Yes, it has been done a few times (to say the least), but it was done well and I thought the ability to see more of Krypton rather just talking about it was a nice touch.
Henry Cavill made a great Superman, far better than all that he follows, bar Christopher Reeve, of course. Since I saw him in Count Of Monte Cristo, he showed promise and I feel he really suits the new Superman.
Where I feel the story is let down, is that there is (as "The Stuckmanator" says), a distinct lack of moments where it's calm. It's just constant and with no let up. Also, Superman would not jeopardise humans in the way that was portrayed, in that I mean, he fought through buildings and collapsed them and put a lot of humans in danger. Yes, Zodd wanted to destroy the human race, but Kal-El wouldn't forfeit 50% of the human population just to save it, IMHO. (Steps off soap box).
Nice review though, Chris, and many points I agree with. Cheers.
General Zod is way better of a villain than Loki, I NEVER understood the hype for Loki. By far the less threatening villain I've ever seen.
Exactly he's like so cartoony like a kid movie vilain I don't get the hype either
He's charming and kind of manipulative.
The thing about Loki is that he presses every button that he can with Thor and the avengers
+Tony Vercetti just imgurian tards jerking over tom hiddleston
+Tony Vercetti loki is for children!!
I saw it today and was blown away,, its not perfect and there are a couple of scenes that i might have tweaked more, but the action, the intensity, the score, the performances were all great and i'll be seeing it again on Sunday!
I'm in the camp of people who loved Man of Steel, even though I'm fully aware of its rather deep flaws.
It's flawless for me...and I'm not one of those toxic dc fanbitches who slaughtered and shitted on it's every movie until the snyder cut and then...yaaayyyy we love dc. Imagine the cringe, anger and agony I get by the sudden shear appreaciation for snyder,cavil,MoS,BvS,batfleck..jl...freaking dc. I wish snyder, cavil, affleck announce they quit dc spitting on the faces of these idiots and scaring them for life of what could have been the snyderverse.
@@apetogetherstrong4243 It has flaws too dark desaturated colours like Batman need to look like Superman Returns.
@@RobertK1993 exactly...snyder is too good for the audience. They don't deserve him
The film score is my absolute favorite part of this movie, and it's my favorite film score of all time! There is a lot that doesn't make this film the best, but it's one of my favorite superhero movies because of the film score. LISTEN TO THE FILM SCORE everyone. Thank you for mentioning Hans Zimmer in the your review.

BvS is not good but mediocre
+Infernagon I've seen it. Personally loved it but that's just me. I do think critics were a bit to harse.
tyler moran Yeah we base it in our own opinions. But for average reviewers and watchers, its mediocre at best
I can see where you guys come from for sure. There are definitely parts even for a hardcore DC Fan like me that I felt were poor. Mostly why superman was in the movie other than his (spoiler) death scene
+tyler moran he didnt die! He simply faked his death so people wont hate him for another "too much rekt city". We all knew how that turned out when he snapped Zod's head
B+ is fair. Cavill was easily the best Superman that we've seen so far. I love lesser known actors for these huge roles. The Reeves era is over. People need to get over it. He was great in his time but in the here and now, Henry Cavill is our new Supes and he's way more believable than Reeves.
Man of Steel is a decent intro and yeah those fanboys need to accept changes just like Tobey Maguire as Spidey, Christian Bale as Batman being replaced by different actors etc.
@@AeroHybrid To my mind, I can perfectly watch another actor playing Superman other than Christopher Reeve but Reeve will forever be the best Superman ever. Henry Cavill added no humanity to his character in my opinion.
What about tom welling from smallville?

@@mateoairaudo5535 it helped that he had 10 seasons to form his character, but he's honestly the reason I couldn't enjoy Henry as superman. I kept expecting something different. Great review. I defend this movie and Snyder constantly against an army of marvel fanboy trolls, and self important hipster critics. I have to say this review was so very spot on. Your critique is excellent!
+Aiz3n *sigh* This movie isn't hated because it's DC. There isn't an army of fanboys out to get you. Some people are real enough to realise that this film should have been amazing given the source material, the importance of it being a big hit and the great casting. Nevertheless it was a let down.
+jockadoobee only your comment is terrible
My god is UA-cam filled with shallow thinkers. I saw the problems with Man of Steel because I looked deep into the story, not because I am a Marvel fanboy.
I personally thought Man of Steel is the best Superman film and I'll go as far as to say it's one of the better super hero films! I loved it!!!
I can't believe how badly Chris underrated Michael Shannon's performance as Zod. It was fucking incredible. So many amazing moments. It wasn't just the lines but the delivery more than anything. He absolutely nailed it, just like Russel Crowe nailed Jor El, and Antje Traue nailed Faora (or by nail, I mean stole the show, since Faora isn't really an established character at all is she??)
Hey Chris I REALLY enjoy your superhero movie reviews! I enjoy hearing your opinion on them. They help me think more about the movies in question.
Regarding the Man Of Steel movie, I am SUPER happy that I'm not the only one who felt like the movie didn't feel as fluently put together as it could have been! I felt like it was all separate pieces put together as small episodes rather than 1 whole cohesive movie as movies should feel as one.
I don't understand why so many people think this is one of the worst movies ever made, it's really damn good, like really, REALLY good, I can see some things with the movie that may not be perfect but that's the same for Infinity War or The Godfather, no movie is perfect but it's amazing in its own way.
I love this movie and to this day it's my favourite D.C. movie.
I never understood how anyone didnt like this movie. Its easily the best superman film ever made. The acting directing and writing were far supurb than its predecessors. This movie is like the first john wick movie or edge fo tomorrow. A really great movie that fell way under the radar when it was released.
Such a underrated movie. The directing, acting, perfect cast, epic music by Hans Ximmer. Everything was ok. But the critics destroyed this Masterpiece. Its my favourite movie.
It’s always fun watching reviews like this 4 and a half years later, knowing that at the time not you or anyone else had any idea what a cluster the DCEU would become lol
This exactly why I prefer DC. Because they actually make you think about how these heroes and villains have repercussions in the real world. The film was a complete package and an epic journey from start to finish. I love the graphic novels used, the properly executed punchlines, and the background of the characters introduced. This movie did a great job showing the sheer power and destructive capabilities of Kryptonians under a yellow sun. Bro I am insanely in love with this cinematography and combat sequence. Notice how Faora didn't bash his masculinity or invoke any "girl power" nonsense? And still, she came off as a powerful female character in the movie. That's good writing by Nolan brothers and Zack Snyder. Brilliant actors by Crowe, Shanon, and Cavil.
faora isn’t a good character, she’s just a badass punching goon lol. the only antagonist that has character is zod. beatrix kiddo is a good female character.

I absolutely loved the movie of course there where a couple of bad thing, honestly they where outshined by everything else.
Also that was the best Chris Struckmann opening.
Man of Steel comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc today. I'm looking forward to buying the DVD in 16 days.
The first 27 seconds of anticipation of a new Chris Stuckmann video is pretty much so me everyday, which is not bad but I just started college recently, so when I do HW I take a break every 5-10 minutes refreshing YT page for any new CS videos...
I was hoping for this movie to be awesome. At the start on Krypton I was like "omg we're in the dc cinematic universe and about to see a great Superman!" Then as the movie went on I felt like there was little character development, poor screenplay and plot points that were way too forced. Also the constant flashbacks that repeatedly states the same messages over and over again were getting boring. The only interesting parts were the action scenes and I admit they were way cooler than anything in other superman films. Still the rest of the film was disappointing for a reintroduction of such a big superhero.
Just seen this movie and honestly it reminded me a lot of The Saiyan Arc in Dragon Ball Z. But 7/10 for me, pacing and character development could’ve been better. Introduction was a great setup. The Kiss felt too soon in the movie for me, there wasn’t any kindve bond established for that to happen regardless of what’s going on. Action was amazing asf. I like it.
I've really liked both MoS and BvS, not sure why the receive all the hate they get. My theory is big Marvel fans have a tough time enjoying a movie with less humor.
Well I'm a big time DC fan, and I thought that Man of Steel was mediocre, and that BvS was pretty bad. It wasn't that there wasn't any humor, it was mostly that it wasn't very enjoyable to watch.
I'm a both Marvel and DC fan. To be honest, I've started liking DC A LOT more than I used to but I only give BvS a B- and I only give Superman a D+
I don't think many people read only Marvel or only DC. Most read at least a bit of everything. I've always read both, and I really don't care for these DCEU movies.
I didn't get the hate for Man of Steel too but BvS sucks big time
When critics and film lovers trash on MoS and BvS there's definitely something wrong. Theyr'e just poorly made movies with shallow characters adn writing
The human emotion critique makes no sense to me. I cry every fucking time I get to the tornado scene. It's almost too heavy handed the more I think about it. Cavills' heartbroken face when he snaps Zods neck is hard to look at too.
Superman: A+
Superman II: B
(I haven't seen III or IV yet. Wish me luck for when I get around to it)
Superman Returns: C+
Man of Steel: A+
Batman v Superman: B
I have loved Henry Cavill ever since he was in The Tudors and I though he did a fantastic job as Superman
A+ for me. It did have the time to cool down for me. I also felt like cavil brought a lot of great emotion to the character. Action was great as well. One moment with pa kent really brought me to tears. Superb acting ant filmmaking. Not quite as good as TDKR but much better than the Avengers.
Man Of Steel was so freaking awesome
Wow, I was so worried that you were going to hate on this. I was so glad that you pretty much agreed with me on everything. Good God, it has an amazing score.
And seriously, you have changed a LOT over the past three years, I just went from your Quest For Peace Hilariocity review and it is so noticeable.
Agreed with your opinion and rating. Though for me personally, Man of Steel is the best superman movie I have seen. In this movie, superman finally gets a decent outfit (compared to older ones), also this movie seems much more mature than any of the old superman movies and, I think, this movie goes much more in depth with superman's, as well as, other charaters' backstories. All of this is compared to other superman movies though. As a movie in general, I agree with giving it a B+.
why do people hate this movie?.....um Superman Returns and Superman 3 & 4 anyone?!????
Delon Luu I actually liked *"Superman Returns"* 3 and 4 😔😄
That awkward moment when you notice Chris Stuckman was actually really cool as superman
Man of Steel is the best portrayal of Superman
Eric Hurt L-O-L
You have nothing to prove it.
There is also a huge human element to him. Just as humans do, his enduring of hard times makes him mentally stronger. Whatever hardships you have in your life, struggle through and you will be better for it. Very powerful message.
I found it interesting, fresh, but most important it really grips you in places, the action scenes are intense, and the sad bits are just strong enough. I don't think most people would cry, but you can feel, for example Clark's despair and heartbreak at the hurricane
Just watched MOS in prep for Snyder's Justice League. This movie has aged WELL. I criticized it when it 1st came out, but in 2021, it really holds up. The tone is perfect, and the action is epic AF (especially in hindsight of the BvS opening scene). Remembering this is a literal universe, showing Krypton and space travel, it all fits the huge-ness of it all to setup Darkseid's arrival. Snyder's vision was/is brilliant. Glad we got a consolation in the re-release.
Ok, no one has the balls to say this, so here I am going to say -
*Man of Steel is the best Superman movie EVERRRRR!*
One word.
yes.
Even tho I was always a fan of the original Superman film and Superman 2 . It doesn’t keep up compared to man of steel storywise
Of course it is
Zach Snyder has no respect for the iconic character known as SuperMan. This film was ego driven. He got rid of John Williams iconic score. There was plot holes. And going against something that has worked for 75 years proves this was an ego driven movie. What doesn't Snyder get that SuperMan DOES NOT KILL? Even if pushed to his limits he cannot kill. If he does he's labeled as an antihero or a vigilante. I understand some liked this movie but it caters to those that like noise and is CG with out proper story structure. But in the end people like what their gonna like.
He's killed in the comics before.
Give it time for what? I have never seen more plot holes in a single film then Man Of Steel. I've seen B-Movies with better plot direction then MOS.
timeknowsfilms There is no perfect movie, The Dark Knight (the trilogy that revived Batman franchise), The beloved Christoher Reeve Superman 1 & 2 ,Captain America The Winter Soldier, The Avengers, The Matrix, Inception, The Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, those movies also has plotholes.
TheBlond49 Not as many as Man of Steel. If you goto film school you better hope they don't use this film as a reference. Unless they are using it as a "What not to do" as part of the course. All this movie was was noise and seeing how many buildings they can destroy.
timeknowsfilms That was collateral damage made by the villains, not the hero, and it's barely in the fight at the end. The rest was just a great story about the hero.
My biggest complaint with the movie isn't really that big or bad but I didn't like how it flashed back to supermans childhood. Like I wish it would have chronologically shown kal el grow up into superman like in the old movies instead of fast forwarding to him as a man and looking back at his past. Nevertheless I enjoyed the film and can't wait for BvS
Exactly! It's like they kept going back and forth from his childhood to his present state. It kept going on through a lot of the film and it was getting irritating
That's because Christopher Nolan helped work on this and they did the same thing with batman begins
+jefferson steelflex I agree. I wish I could edit the movie so it follows a linear story.
The opening Krypton segments are worth the price of the movie. Superman's parents are terrific, and it looks like a real planet. As the movie progresses, one understands even more why Jor-El makes the choice he did. From now on, when I think Krypton, I will think of the vision portrayed by this film.
Hans Zimmers score is absolutely awesome .
I just want to say I that I love this movie. I just wish that some people would stop saying this is as bad as suicide squad, or that it's "strike 1" for DC.
When I first saw movie I thought it was okay but I just saw it again recently--now I would give A+
Somehow the movie grew on me.
Damn Chris looks so young here 🥺
I'm here after 7 long years
I’m 9!
Looking back, this film is a masterpiece for me. The score... The acting... The depth... The fight scenes... The tensity... Everything was masterful, it felt like there were actual stakes unlike Justice League it felt like meh whatever. This movie is seriously overlooked
Won't lie... The quotes from Russel Crowe towards baby superman were deep af
Omg I have had such a HUGE crush on Amy Adams since I was at "that" very particular age of my adolescent development lol you know what I mean, don't you?! 👍😇
FINALLY! Someone on Channel awesome that absolutely liked Man Of Steel!
Doug & Rob: It sucked! Lewis: What did I just watch!? Lindsay: worst film of the year! Leon: The Jesus symbolisms! By god the Jesus Symbolisms! Erod: I need therapy! Hagen: Hated it! Brad: god what a piece of shit! and there were a couple more too.
Damn, that is harsh. I liked the film, & yeah, I didn't think it was a masterpiece or anything, but by god, it was still entertaining. Alot of the attacks on this reviews are mainly directed at Zack Snyder, who I don't think is as bad of a director as people make him out to be.
Forgot Angry Joe who loved it
ZomgRuler jeremy jahns love it
ZomgRuler I liked _Man of Steel_, but..it has its problems.
Critics like Bob Chipman, Rob & Doug Walker, and Lindsay Ellis have a right to "hate" it, but..I refuse to call it a "bad" movie. It was, in my opinion, a very _enjoyable_ movie. (I'd give it a C+)
Yeah, the script is the biggest issue for Man of Steel for me, but I am glad they have changed Goyer for Chris Terrio.. and I hope Snyder has taken some criticism well for Man of Steel and has improved for Batman v Superman.
BvS was even sloppier than this.
+Aidan O'Meara still Goyers initial script and ideas... i read Terrio only tweak parts :(
+Sam Lucke Yeah
+Sam Lucke You can mostly tell though which part Terrio tweaked.
Love man of steel i think it is The most under rated movie EVER :(
+muhammad hussain how is it underated? It was a big box office success. However it had obvious flaws and critics capitalized on them
I know where you are coming from but Man of Steel is not taken as it should have been
it invested me emotionally like no movie before ever i still remember the scene "You think you can threaten my mother " I had misty eyes and i punched the poor girl sitting next to me lol i dont know why people cant appreciate that movie as i did thats all .
muhammad hussain Fair enough.
@@deephabbit Surely you are embarrassed by this comment by now
I liked the majority of the movie but there were scenes and parts of the script that I didn't think sounded realistic. For example, when the guy from the army mentions that they have Superman with them, that's when we hear the word "Superman" for the first time. A reboot for a movie should be presented as though it is the only movie. When you come up with a name that sticks with this new superhero, you need to build up to it instead of just spilling it out and getting it over with. When Louise is falling out of the plane with no parachute, she should be in the most terrified feeling possible, but she isn't. This is either because we know that the background is just green screen, or she does skydiving in her free time.
I enjoyed the "Man of Steel". Since Superman 1 and Superman 2 everything else sucked, Christopher Reeve was the greatest Superman ever but Cavil did a good job playing Superman. I enjoyed Zod in this one. Everyone says the fighting is over the top, but all I have to say is , your fighting the most powerful man on the planet. There should be allot of destruction. Good review btw. I give this movie a 9!
Underrated and over hated movie, pretty awesome, love the plot line and action scenes were kick ass, awesome cast a little cliche in point, but awesome movie 7.5/10
For me it's a solid A
There is one theme about this movie that I think some people haven't noticed yet. The movie is ultimately about ''free-will vs destiny''. I heard people complaining about the way how some of the humans treat Clark Kent as a Messiah. And, for the most part, I did find that a little irritating as well, but I found it to be massively important to the film. Think about it! The movie goes into detail about the Kryptonians using artificial birth to give their race a purpose, which removes free-will to form their own. Clark's biological parents realized the flaw in this and decided to 'naturally' create a child of free-will. As for the humans on the other hand, they believe in destiny and purpose, despite that they have free-will. So it makes sense that they would see Clark as a Messiah, as apposed to the Kryptonians. The theme also works (surprisingly) well between the two fathers of Clark in this film as well. Jonathan believes that Clark has a destiny to become something more to humanity, while Jor-El is more about Clark deciding what he wants to become in life and responsibility. That's an element that ultimately has me loving this movie.
Great review, Chris! I have to say, however, that this is a strong A+ for me. As a film fan and as a Superman fan (fan of the first two Reeve films, some cartoons, and comics), Man of Steel was everything I wanted it to be. I loved the action, and I did feel that the heart was there the whole time. I have never gotten so many goosebumps in just one superhero film before. Michael Shannon might have been underused, but I loved how he had Faora and the other villains helping him.
Great Movie. Henry Cavill was the perfect choice to play Superman. Henry Cavill and Amy Adams have good chemistry and Adam Adams did a good job as Lois Lane. It was a good start to the DC Cinematic Universe. At the time I did not know at the time that Man of Steel was the first movie in a new cinematic universe. I thought Man of Steel was going to be the first instalment of a trilogy and that it was going to be like Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy which Superman would be reinvented and made a much darker character. It's a shame after Man of Steel, the following DCEU movies Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Suicide Squad. Justice League and Wonder Woman were terrible and the DCEU just couldn't capture what made the Marvel Cinematic Universe work and so successful. Aquaman was surprisingly good and I actually met Jason Momoa the same year Man of Steel came out. Aquaman was great and I thought it was the best DCEU movie since Man of Steel. Jason Momoa was born to play Aquaman. Despite it's pacing issues, Man of Steel is a great movie and it's up there with the classic 1978 Superman starring Christopher Reeve. One of the best comic book movies we've had in the last decade.
I agree with you on some points. But Wonderwoman 1st movie was great until the Ares fight. But overall a great movie. I expected Ares to be more of a challenge to diana. The second WW movie was crap tho
For the first time, i disagree with chris. I think MoS is 9/10
B+ is like an 8.5/10. So it’s not that far.
Superman : Man Of Steel and Batman VS Superman : Down OfJustice is the best DC Movie of Superman i can't wait to see Superman : Man Of Steel 2 at 2019 big fan of Zod and feel bad of my favorite villain dead , but i really like the fight scene better than Superman : Return Movie and if DC one day have new Actor of Zod i will be so happy and the best scene is Superman VS Zod .
My main gripe with this movie was the fact that pa Kent died by Clark letting him die in a tornado, his death was much more impactful in the original because he died of a sudden heart attack, despite all of Clark’s power there’s nothing he could’ve done for that, but he could’ve easily saved him from a tornado, I get the whole “the worlds not ready for Superman,” but it just didn’t work for me, other than that this movie is enjoyable and I love Henry Cavill as Superman
0:26 Go Tigers
Perhaps the dumbest power Superman ever got was in the Donner film, where he can just fly around the Earth and travel back in time. It's pretty stupid, because he can just undo anything that ever goes wrong. It's stupid, in MoS, that's not the case, what's more, Lex Luthor will likely be the kind of villain who will initially be seen as the hero because he has something to try and counteract the power of Superman.
We all can agree about that. Superman spinning the Earth around was a dumb way to end the film.
I'm surprised you haven't discussed this movie or Dark Knight Rises or Interstellar when you've been on Screen Junkies, who heavily dislike all of them. A lot.
Never really got the hate for either of those movies.
I'm surprised he hasn't reviewed watchmen. Please review watchmen or do an analysis on it.
Gigantic Superman fan here, but it doesn't mean I'm blind.
B-/C+
This movie was excellent. I think some fans didn't like it cause they were still holding on to the Christopher Reeve version of Superman. Well, I say watch Superman III or IV. That'll cure them.
Thank you so much for this review! Only one who put me at ease before I watched it, was so worried that it was going to be bad and I absolutely loved Man of Steel :)
