Thumbs up if you like Raiden.
He grew on me, especially on MGS4.

Honestly I think Hideo Kojima took the entire Illuminati idea and switched the name with the Patriots and tied it in with the Metal Gear series which was brilliant.
Thats the same thing i was picking up
he did even more than that - he mixed in 5 themes was fantastic
The LALELULELO???
@@Ervinabrahamian Yes
Awesome as it is, Raiden slipping on bird poop was hilarious.
I thought him getting pissed on was funnier
@@Ervinabrahamian in the famous words of AI Campbell "They don't call it wetwork for nothing"
if you consider that Kojima made this sequel heavily themed with control of information and illusion of choice by making you play as as unlikable rookie (nobody knew about) who idols the legendary solid snake...(the character you want to play as, deceptively taken from you)...AND trough the plot destroys the reality around him with a crapload of weirdness just to point out that what he is living (may be) just a VR simulation...like the very game you are playing pretending to be raiden, you kinda start to think just how genius MGS2 may be in the use of metalanguage...see how strange everything sounds via codec even to raiden himself from the beginning??
"raiden turn the game console off right now!"
And then we get to know about Raidens past, that he is actually more than just a figure for the players to control, at the end, Raiden throws away his dog tag with the players name on it to show that he has decided to not be a puppet anymore, that scene was powerful
you've hit the nail with the analysis jm. I didnt realized what kind of game I had played until I started watching these videos explaining what it was all about
@@suwatsaksri7191 Indeed!
@@owoled282 Thanks man! I didn't like MGS2 that much until i saw superbunnyhop's analysis here on yt...look it up, it is brilliant to say the least. Cheers!
@@jm_draws7253 i have seen that one also. really great content. gives a lot of food for thought specially these days
People were pissed because they missed the entire point of the games themes. The power of the misuse of information.
Yeah after 2016, 2020, this game hold so well in fact that this would happen, kojima had this idea of the internet going full drive, the user taking advantage and being exploted like a product by the coperate. 2020 was anther hit storm, 2016 was unexpected shock effect. That any of us put preconceived notions can be flawed and bias. That's where after 2016 youtube or people were quiet and argument both ends going at it. People in their small little ponds, leaking whatever truth suits them in to the growing cesspool in society at large. Even before 2016 I did find this ending, game puzzling but very resonating. The game stood out for me becouse it's how it was worded. I got the idea that people in all kinds were diffrent but the medium or how its orgustrated by a narritive is not compatable too one another, its conflict in the polical level, the narrative buffers with a point of view, and they change over time. The real world is messy, and I've known my bias and others to know that we hold half truths or truth barriers, or not the complete story as we think. Mgs2 is like what that person said on wiki, it's too dame clever for it's own good.
I got to the series late, around the time MGS4 was coming out. And everyone saying it's a big deal is what got me interested. So I went in blind, played MGS1 and loved it. Then played MGS2 (again, knowing nothing, having no expectations) and... FFFFUCKING LOVED IT EVEN MORE! It's still my favorite one of the entire series.
Amazing! I wish more people had the same tastes and state of mind as you! MGS2 is a timeless masterpiece.
+Jet 27 Same here
I loved MGS 2 But I didnt like that they didnt tell you that you were going to be raiden
I thought that was kinda funny
+SneakyToast Gaming You weren't supposed to know. That part was supposed to be kept secret to subvert you're expectations for the game. It one of the many reasons why I consider MGS2 to be a postmodern masterpiece.
I didn't play any Metal Gear game, never heard of them. A guy who voice acts for me said it's one of his favourites game series, so I got the name in my head. Later I noticed that another friend who records video game cutscenes and gameplay to make them look like a movie did that with the Metal Gear Solid games. So I was like "ok if it's great, I will check those cutscenes". It was interesting and I ended up watching the entire series like they were movies and said "That's better than most hollywood movies, I need to play those games".
i been playing metal gear 1 when much younger it came out on psone in 2000 thats when i played the game for the 1st time it really amazed me nd i never got tired of it from that time
I read the entire comment, saw your picture and scrolled down, 5 seconds later I scrolled back up and saw it was you, and my heart stopped a little
Talibanana
lol
What video is it? I wanna watch that movie cutscene.

Use the revival pi... Oh wait
MGS2 is by far the most unique game in the series. The themes of censorship and the like are extremely relevant in today's time. But what really gets me is the theme of "memes" and how it breaks the fourth wall. You play as raiden when you thought it would be snake... raiden thought Campbell was real when he was just an AI... everything about Vamp... everything about the Patriots... it's hard to know what's real and what's not. You and Raiden feel the exact same by the end of the game in that regard. But recall Snake's words at the end... this is paraphrased but to decide for yourself what to believe in. Whether it's right or wrong doesn't matter. Pick what you HONESTLY believe in, and pass THAT along to the future. MGS2 is simply a masterpiece
I missed Metal Gear Solid 1 cause I never had a PS1, and just hoped on board with Sons of Liberty and FUCKING LOVED that shit. It was a mind-blowing gaming experience for me back then, and still is. One of my favorite games/sagas of all time.
you need to download MGS 1 from the PSN store. You must!
Or get Twin Snakes on Gamecube. That takes the story of MGS and revamps the gameplay and cut scenes. Twin Snakes is for me the best MGS game.
Indersen Mirchandani lol
***** And Raiden slipping on seagull doodoo.
Patrick
Shit gets so weird and intense when you reach arsenal gear, is like you start to play some sort of horror game for a few minutes, until you learn the truth.
Bigbrother3465 and that truth was pretty scary
apedreitor Yeah exactly, when Snake appears again things cool down a little and the Mgs atmosphere returns until the fight with the Rays. When the IA calls you at Federal Hall thats when shit gets scary again.
Ok, to understand my feelings about MGS2, there are two things I need to say about me:
First: I'm an adopted child, and I never got to meet my biological parents.
Second: I'm currently writing a dissertation paper on Cultural Dimensions in Language Acquisition.
If you've played and understood MGS2, then you probably get why I consider MGS2 my favorite of the series.
Granted, when I first played it, I was only 11 years old, and I didn't understand shit.
But today, it's just a goldmine of information: it taught me so much about how to view myself, about who I could and wanted to be, about the choice of your own culture...so much that Hideo Kojima is on the bibliography of my dissertation paper.
So yeah: MGS2 is probably the most elitist game in the franchise: it's abusively complex, it doesn't give you time to properly process the information it's feeding you, but if you give it a chance, it's just a philosophical marvel.
I too can use long words to confuse the reader of thinking I'm intelligent.
cam lindsay those words weren't that complicated dude. I understood him perfectly and english isn't my native language.
cam lindsay
lol. I thought it made plenty sense.
Amen. Couldn't agree more. MGS@... or all of them for that matter... taught me a little TOO much as a child. TOO much, lol. Made me a freakin' mastermind at a tender age. I owe Hideo a lot.
Cam, you are just an idiot, all of his words used there were not used pretentiously, the original comment used "complicated" words such as bibliography because they were relevant, saying that he is trying to confuse someone is stupid
Unless if we were talking about sandwiches and he said
"Sandwiches are a delectable food where you can put two pieces of bread which wre made up of wheat and fill them with whateverfood you want! And as i use my jaw muscles to chew it, i swallow it and my throat passes it all the way to my stomach where it is digested and then enters my large intestine where it exits out of my anus"
The George bush impression Hahahah
I died laughing bro xD
it was pretty damn good
MGS2 was a statement against MEME culture with the Tanker chapter acting as everything fans wanted from an MGS game, and the plant acting as a sort of commentary for Hideo Kojima's thoughts on fan boyism and fan expectations. That's why it was supposed to be the last game in the series. It was Kojima's way of saying "You don't need answers for everything. Make up your own ending. ". I think it was brilliant.
i was only 9 years old when it came out. I had beaten the first game. ready for the second one, excited, got to the part with Raiden. Do you know what my first thoughts were?
..... nothing. I didn't think anything of it. I just figured it was part of the story and that was that. I loved the second one even from age 9. All in all, I've played and beaten all the games at least 3 times (1st one being the most played through) and I can honestly say I do still love the second one
I just kept thinking who TF is this and did snake just die 🙄
The game is not incredibly difficult as long as you are patient. Except the part when you fight like 3-5 metal gears. That part was hard as fuck.
That's why I don't understand why no one took Raiden seriously, he fought all of those Metal Gears and beat them before he was a Cyborg. He seemed to have more trouble with the Gekko as a Cyborg than the Metal Gears as a full human.
ScarletSnake I think those were the earlier Rays so they probably don't have all of the upgrades we see later like the one in Revengeance and they were unmanned, they probably didn't want to give all of the power to something that could possibly have a software glitch and randomly fire a nuke or, worse yet, be hacked. Also, being an anti-Metal Gear doesn't necessarily mean it's stronger, it just may have an arsenal and abilities that can counter the common design of Metal Gears. From an eyeball test alone, Ray seems to be more maneuverable than Rex which may allow it to counter Rex's fire power with being be to out flank it. Question, The Patriots didn't originally create Metal Gears, right? I know that Russian scientist initially formulated the theory of Metal Gears but it was first created by Big Boss in Mother Base, right?
ScarletSnake its possible that ray was cheaper to produce and could gank a rex
Gootothesecond It was huey (otacons father) who first came up with the design for metal gear which he sent the designs to the russian guy in metal gear solid 3
Con Cahill Thanks, I was always hazy about that . It's kind of weird that they'd be able to share that information during The Cold War.
Am i the only person that actually likes Raiden?
Bleeding Thumbs Murphy no
I like raiden as well.
No
yes
I wanted to see more how he the nickname jack the rippper
The mind fuck part was that Liquid never did posses Ocelot
wait... what!?!?
What are you talking about?
It's implied that he did posses Ocelot through Ocelot's unknown connection to the spiritual realm due to being the Sorrow's son, and this is what gave him the idea for his plot in four. In the last battle of four it's shown that he's removed Liquid's arm, which he would have no reason to do unless it really was causing him problems.
icantthinkofaname Soooo.... In the end Ocelot was Ocelot...
Ocelot apparently uses some kind of hypnosis to himself that makes him believe that liquid possesses him from time to time through liquid hands that is attached to him.
MGS2 is my favorite in the series. I just absolutely loved every second of that game.
Epic is the only word that can properly describe it.
your bush impersonation of solidus snake killed me real bad XD!!!!!
hahahaha man that was halarious!
Space Ghost seriously man #Cheers that was some acting and spoofing.
They don't call him Vamp because he's a vampire they call him Vamp because he's bisexual.
Sam Geuvenen yeah I never understood that, I know that is why they call him vamp, but why?
I don't know how that translates either, but there you go.
Sam Geuvenen because that's how he acted? The thing with blood, fear of crosses...
Kyle D Vamp is another word for someone who is sexually promiscuous - more specifically bisexual
+Kyle D I still believe snake was being sarcastic.
No. Solidus looks so old because the kill genes in him started working before they did in Solid.
+Sam Geuvenen I never knew that..Makes sense
+Sam Geuvenen I thought he was the one perfect clone to Big Boss compared to Solid Snak
***** I will now fully explain how it works: Since Solidus is an exact clone, he ought to look exactly like Naked Snake. However, the Kill Genes engineered into him by The Patriots activated earlier than his brothers, causing his accelerated aging before Solid or Liquid would've gotten it.
***** Damn your sarcasm is on point
I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm with the tuning fork in flapjaw space, does a raw blink on Hairi Kairi Rock.
I need scissors! 61!
No ones going to mention the skateboarding minigame? I loved messing around with that when I finished the game.
The original PS2 version that most people played didn't come with that.
I just finished Sons ofLiberty today, and all I can say is: Man, what a game! All those weirdness made sense at the end. I haven't played Guns of the patriots, so I guess I don't have the whole picture yet, but anyways I enjoyed playing it a lot!
You definitely should get MGS4.. To me, it's one of the best games ever made (again, ahead of its time. it is one of the first PS3 games and the graphics and gameplay are amazing.)
its amazing that the graphics of mgs4 are better than almost all next gen games

one of the biggest wtf moments in my gaming experience.

Blazed Again Have you played Batman Arkham Asylum? If so, you can possibly add another moment.
LOL That George Bush impression was awesome
raushan latiff it was haha
FISSION MAILED.....
Most of my friends who played the game before I did back then, said the story has its moments, but its okay. But they said they REALLY hated Raiden the most, and even said he killed the game. Then, when MGS4 was released & later Metal Gear Rising, they started appreciating him. Not just my friends, but almost the whole Metal gear fan base hated him too, again, until MGS4 & Rising was out. Now....not to sound like a black sheep, but I myself, didn't really mind Raiden that much, I actually liked the guy, and this was way before he became a badass in MGS4 and Rising. So, for you people saying Raiden killed the game, he really didn't. Yes, his character in MGS2 is a little Meh, but Raiden didn't ruin the game. NOTHING ruined MGS2! Its a great game!
+The KING Same here I reaalllyyy liked Raiden, thought he was a nice filler
+The KING Agreed. I would even go as far as saying I prefer Raiden in MGS2 than what he becomes in 4.
+The KING pls do not mention rising, it is not part of the saga. To true fans, it is like a fan-fiction, a what-if if you may.
It really says something about this game when I can get through Homestuck, Lost, and Inception and have a good understanding of what happened and how everything works, and be totally confused about the ending to this game. I mean, is it all a simulation? What's the deal with Liquid possessing Ocelot? Why is Vamp a vampire? Granted, a lot of it was explained in 4, but I still play through it again and say "yep, I still don't know what's going on."
I'm pretty sure they make it clear in MGS2 that Vamp isn't actually a vampire
Jinzo Seven They did? I haven't played it in a while so my memory is a little fuzzy.
Maximus-Kanic I think when he was a kid there was some explosion and he was trapped under the rubble of a building. He survived for days by drinking the blood of his family, and he liked the taste. At least I think that's what happened
The whole thing was real, but they were all manipulated to reenact shadow moses. Rose was an agent of the patriots, but it was a real person. Vamp and Ocelet's arm you already know about. What else?
Also, in a meta level, it was a play on sequels that are exactly like the original. It feels nice, but there's some feeling in the back of your head that things are not quite alright.
Played the first game, getting the HD collection and Phantom Pain now
Awesome
Same exact thing i did.
I got the legacy collection that has Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear VR missions, Peacewalker, the HD collection, Guns of the Patriot, the original nes games, and some other content. Well worth the 26 dollars I paid for it on ebay. The only downside is that you have to download MGS 1 and the VR games onto your ps3 hard-drive with a voucher, as opposed to them being on the physical copy. It's fine though, it's not as if either take up much space, at least comparatively to new games.
I lost my shit at the George W. Bush - Solidus Snake part haha
ICarly has metal gear
what?
O_o My god.
"President of the Shadow Moses Incident" -Jeremy Jahns 2012
Vamp isn't because he's a vampire, it's because he's bisexual
I still don’t get it
@@kilochampion787 you have to play the game to get that, snake says it in a codec call
Even Raiden was like, yeah its a vampire. And then Snake had to be like nope. I mean cmon XD
I just finished the game and I gotta say... My mind is fucking overflowing with too much information.
fission mailer blew my FUCKING mind.

DAMN, IKr
The last hour blew my mind.
Fission Mailed?
MGS2 is amazing and I love it. Raiden is an incredible badass that took out 20 metal gear rays simultaneously and then proceeded to defeat the clone of big boss in a sword fight on the roof of a building.
MGS 2 is my favourite, being my favourite game as a kid... haha pissed me off so much but still going back and playing it now I love it! Don't get me wrong... there all amazing and some of my favourite bosses from the series (I can't remember his name) I love the guy that could read your memory card. Amazing series!
Dead Cell.
Their name was Dead Cell. Not Sons of Liberty.
d3m1.60d // but they group as a whole including Solidus and ocelot is sons of Liberty. Dead cell is just vamp, Fatman, and fortune
4:55 Wasting you with ak-47s? More like fa-mas (spelled like that in mgs 1)
Lol the "lalelulelo" i forgot about that shit!
Nope the LALILOLELO not LALELOLELO
You both got it wrong, it's LaLiLuLeLo.
Been watching you for years just found out about these reviews looking up the new nintendo switch port. Then I ended up checking out the whole series on your channel lol.
The themes in Mgs 2 are beyond relevant today it’s actually insane
Honestly I love the people saying that they don't understand the mgs story after they played then in the order they came out in, the order I played it in was 2, 4, 1, Portable Ops, 3, Peace Walker. And at this point I understand it fairly well. If you can understand it after playing through it in that order than you can fucking understand kingdom hearts
Talibanana Kingdom Hearts isn's hard to understand until the latest entries. And I didn't have problems with these neither.
this holds a lot of nostalgia for me, i remember playing this at my friends house while listening to the 'NOW 51' album and having a few beers back in 2002, kill to be 14 again.
Jeremy whenever I'm down you make things awesometacular dude
I actually liked Raiden's story. Also, the moment when you fight many enemies with Snake shooting and throwing you ammo, that was epic
George W as Solidus...I laughed so much. I love it.
same here
Thanks for reviewing the MGS series! I've been a fan of Metal Gear for many years and I love your reviews, so watching your reviews of MGS is really cool. Thanks again and keep it up.
I enjoyed MGS2. I would agree though that after the first play through, I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to play as Snake. I also agree that the last hour was so weird and confusing that my jaw was on the ground and my brain was leaking out of my ear. And don't even get my started on those damn flying cameras! All in All, 9/10. Solid game. No pun intended.
The thing about playing this when I was younger I just rolled with the ocelot liquid arm thing
That Bush impression, though! 👍
so i have the hd collection and im having audio problems.
there is no voice audio during in game cutscenes or with conversations on the codec. any solutions?
This was the first metal gear game I ever played when I was a teen and it was life changing. I had no idea who these characters were and all that but the themes that were discussed literally changed me as a person. I have never been the same since!
lmfao Solidus Bush lolololol
It was a masterpiece in 2001
Its even more of a masterpiece in 2018
We all know why.... it will live on as The Unique game and story Ever.
honestly I liked it, I agree its the most frustrating one but still enjoyable and I liked Raiden. He's a good character and had a good arc. Also yeah the scene with Snake & Otacon's super best friend hand shake was really awesome because you knew then that Snake was no longer alone in the world. He finally had a friend.
I was never really a fan of Metal Gear, but Jeremy, you got me interested. So I got the HD collection and was just wondering, which order should I play them in? I could go production order, MGS1, MGS2, and etc. Or I could go in chronological order which I think might make more sense. So I'm not really sure which way to go. Any suggestions? :)
Thinking individuals should skip this review
Superbunnyhop's critical close-up on you tube got it.
Yeah, it's pretty sad that such a big fan of the series would completely miss the subtext.
Subtext isn't jeremy Jahn's strong suit
I'm playing through 2 at the moment (in preparation for 5) and although I couldn't stand the tanker part, the Big Shell parts with Raiden I am really liking. And I'm not all too far into it but already things about the story are starting to be really intriguing. There are certain plot points of the series that have already been spoiled for me but I want to fill in the rest of the main gaps and 2 from my knowledge has a lot of them between 3 and 4.
And although the story can be really complicated and weird, I do actually really love these sorts of stories and is one of the reasons why Kingdom Hearts is probably my favorite game series cos of the extremely complicated story. Some people hate that in a game series but I personally think its great and from what I can tell, Metal Gear Solid is very much like that in its complexity and depth.
+ZantofDarkness Same, couldn't agree more. Let me know what you think of the ending of mgs 2 !
_ MJG _ Oh I finished it. Never has a game affected me to the point where my entire view on the world and life have been changed. As much as I was dreading playing MGS2, I ended up loving it even more than MGS1 cos of that ending. Kojima is a genius.
Same here bro. Same here.
_ MJG _ I'm about to start 3. Then I'll play PW, then GZ, then V and THEN 4. I probably will play Rising (I know its hated a lot) but ONLY cos of the gameplay since I love Platinum games. The story I likely wont consider canon depending on how I feel about 4.
+ZantofDarkness I honestly can't decide which I love best between 2 3 and 4. each time I play them I like the one I currently finished the best. they have that affect. Rising even though different I actually really did enjoy and the story it creates for itself makes you care and is somewhat relevant to the overall series and Raidens back story. I really enjoyed Rising. anyways hope you enjoy the rest of the games
Your Ocelot impression at the beginning was perfect.
Would you ever do a video covering the story of all the games in full spoilers, highlighting some of your favorite twists and what not.
I did enjoy MGS2 alot when I first played it but I did find the plot like: WTF did I just play? I wasn't happy about how grotesquely overpowered Vamp was in the game either - I'm glad they toned him down a bit in MGS4.
That all said, the gameplay and atmosphere in MGS2 is fucking incredible and leagues ahead of anything at the time. It had/has numerous mechanics in it that even triple-AAA games today lack.
this is my favorite mg game of all time. Just genius
Dude I'm surprised you didn't mention the mink games like the boss battle mode and of course the awesome skateboarding mini which were awesome!
Playing through MGS2 when I was a ten-year-old admirer of my all time favorite videogame character Solid Snake was a real adventure back in 2007. At the time, I was obsessed with MGS1 and really waiting to get a PS2 and see my hero back in action again. And so the trip started: I was thrilled to experience all the new aspects that the genius of Kojima added to his series, again revolutionizing videogames forever. The gameplay just got better, there's a lot more for the player to do, the music and the camera were at their best, and and my brain didn't entertain the weird idea of possibly playing a whole game in a Taker as long as I've been walking around, putting guards to sleep and dragging their bodies to hide them lockers. But then, after one of the most thrilling cut-scenes I've ever seen-- combining twists, brilliant voice acting, and lots of action with Snake,Liquid, and Ocelot-- I was surprised to find myself playing as this blond haired acrobat named "Snake" at first ( which made me think " Oh, don't you dare calling this rookie "Snake" ) and then "Raiden". So going through the game in the amazing and massive Big Shell looked like all about longing to go back to playing as Snake. But then I got used to Raiden and I started kind of liking him, until at some point, I met Pliskan.. And wow.. the game took a whole new turn for me ever since; I instantly knew it was Snake, but I never knew I was still not going to go back playing as him.. ever.
As the game proceeded, it was still all about Snake for me even though I kept up pretty well with Jack and enjoyed the game being him. Thus, I've experienced what Hideo said to be his goal when he made us play with Raiden and yet still interact with Snake, and that is to see our the legend from a different perspective, as a different person who might yet be even more than what we thought he was. I've seen a humble, deeper, and wiser side of Snake I maybe would've not discovered if I wasn't playing as Raiden with all the codex calls, that scene you've mentioned, and the words of wisdom towards the end of the game on Arsenal Gear. And for that, I think Hideo Kojima is an absolute genius and I salute him.
Adding to that all the weirdness you've mentioned, the amazing boss fights ( though the MGS1's were slightly better ), the variety of modes that suite all kinds of players, how brilliant the European Extreme mode was, the deep sense and life lessons in its plots, main characters and their stories, the music, the sadness in deaths..I could go on all day talking about how beautiful this game is...
I'll admit though that beating the game in normal mode offered very little challenge even for a ten-year-old kid but thank god the EE mode saved it. And I'll also admit that the plot was hard for me to understand at the time, but that was probably due to my young age, and even when I had beat it two years ago, it wasn't all crystal clear to me so I did it one last time in European Extreme and loved every single detail of the masterpiece.
love this game! Probably my 2nd favorite of the series.
MGS2's biggest flaw is the La-li-lu-le-lo: it's a linguistic thing that really doesn't work outside of Japan. Those 5 syllables are the 5 L syllables that are missing from Japanese that lead to all the Engrish jokes. The metaphor is "those who cannot be named" or something to that extent. They're undefinable, in a very literal sense. To English speakers who haven't studied Japanese linguistics, or have n degrees of separation from people like that who figured it out (I'm not the linguistics guy, I have n degrees of separation from that guy - you have N+1), it just makes no sense. The Japanese audience probably got it immediately, maybe the younger people who technically weren't old enough to play it.
And personally, I loved MGS2 the first time I played it. But then, it was my introduction to the MGS series (with the benefit of someone who'd been paying attention to all the hype marveling at and bemoaning all the changes). Starting with 2, your expectation of the whole series is that there;s going to be an odd lilt on everything. And really, going back to 1, it has that lilt, too, it's just tucked in a corner. Tuxedo Snake, C4ing guards backs...trust me, it's there.
Maximus-Kanic
I can't take credit for it - picked it up on the wiki. I have watched enough subtitled anime to notice that English loan words are rather obviously lacking in L sounds (particularly noticeable when the one European/American character is "Ellen" or something like that)
C'mon man, haven't you played Snake Eater? The password for ADAM and EVA was after snake day's "who are the patriots" they respond with "La-Lay-Liu-Lay-Lo". It makes sense, trust me.
Michael McCormick Keep in mind that Hideo Kojima originally intended the series to end with MGS2. The reason the plot is so strange and confusing in its presentation is that he intended to provoke a lot of interesting questions. He was dragged back to make 3 and 4 because the series was such a success by that point.
I suspect the password for "who are the patriots?" was a throwback, the way Raikov and the mask are.
And actually, the way that scene with EVA plays out - her inability to say La Li Lu Le Lo - kinda reinforces the whole idea of it the phrase being unspeakable.
Come to think of it, it parallels the tetragrammaton concept in theology - the 4 letters that create something unpronouncable (the hebrew alphabet's equivalent of YHWH)...point being that God cannot be defined by an earthly name. Hideo Kojima has since proven that he's not above blasphemy (to the point where there are easter eggs claiming he's God in some of the games), so perhaps that is essentially what he was getting at...after all, the Patriots at that point have a nearly godlike level of influence on the world.
rashkavar Woah, I like that explanation for La-Li-Lu-Le-Lo, but EVA inability to say wasn't really an inability, right? It's just she didn't knew the password.
Togo Kun True, but why? Sure, she probably wasn't the real EVA, but the thing with Sokolov suggests, as I recall, that she's been in place for some time now.
I just bought the metal gear solid legacy collection, and i was wondering if you could give some advice about the order how to play them to understand the polt. Thanks
No, play it in CHRONOLOGYCAL order:
Mgs3
Mgs: Portable OPS
Mgs: PW
Mgs V: Gz
Mgs V: The Phanton Pain
Metal Gear
Metal Gear 2
Mgs
Mgs 2
Mgs 4
It's great that you mention the hand shake scene, but I feel you forget that the hand shake only has as much power as it does because of the scene leading up to it. I guess you're trying not to spoil anything to much, but the entire 20 minute or whatever scene leading up to the hand shake is exactly why that moment felt so powerful.
MGS2 was the first game of the series I played and I found this game amazing. :D
MGS2 is somehow even more relevant to today than back in 2001 and 2012
My personal favorite of the series. The HD remaster is amazing. Raiden is awesome and having to fight alongside Snake was an awesome way of passing the torch
I had no idea what was going on at first and it took a few more playthroughs of MGS2 and 4 before I knew what was happening in it's entirety. However any qualms I may have had about MGS 2 at the time were immeadiately dissolved after the slo-mo walk with Raiden, Snake & Otacon followed by a legendary handshake bro moment.
Kojima admited he has no future plans when he writes his stories. MGS4 is clearly trying to tie all the loose ends that he created due to this.
Do not try to rationalize MGS2 as the pre-planned setup to future storylines
there is no need to tie up loose ends , some things remain a mistery - its ok not to know
@@gabrielpauna62 ok. Not saying otherwise.
"Things go from weird, to strange, to STRANGE." XD
MGS2 was my first MGS game and it was an awesome introduction to the series because I wasn't that connected to Snake yet so I wasn't very pissed that you play as Raiden. That being said, I did go into it knowing a good chunk of MGS1 and that helped tremendously!
1:06 There's a thing called codenames , also his real name is:
Adamska
His nickname is "Shalashaska"
Kojima is f****** mad and insane
when i first played mgs2 in 2002 I hated every moment that i waseted in this game
but after playing the mgs4 I was like WTF ?!!!! THIS BRILLIANT AND AWESOME.
its safe to say that Kojima is one brilliant son of bitch ...
How could you fucking hate MGS2 i cant fucking believe .....
I didn't understand the story and radian was the least favorite character in the MGS series
I dont know what us problem with raiden in my opinion hes a cool character
and yes metal gear solid series plot is very confusing as jeremy said u would have to play mgs3/4 to understand 2 xD
mgs2 is one of my top favorite mgs.
You're making me want to play this series again! I've never been able to play 4 though, I don't have a PS3. Is it available on anything else now?
I know the video is old, but I recently played through MGS2 and I actually loved it. It was strange but in a good way. A challenging and interesting journey with many questions.
I think I am that kind of rarity that actually does love Raiden and his role in MGS2. I see Raiden as a place-holder for the player. He acts in a way that probably anybody who has his first serious spy-mission would do. He is green, he acts emotional and most importantly: He grows up during the game.
I love Raiden (not more than Snake, I love both of them) and enjoyed playing him in MGS2 and Metal Gear Rising. Now I am looking forward to play MGS3 and MGS4 some day
Jeremyjahns, just so you know. The La Lee Loo Leh Low derives from Japanese formulaic speech Ah Ee Oo Eh Oh. parallel to American English vowels A E I O U.
not a popular opinion..........but this was my favourite........and still is...
Doing a MGS run from MGS1 to V. After playng each game I just look info on them or reviews and I have always like Jeremy's reviews the way he acts like the characters cracks me up. LMAO.
MGS2 was my first metal gear game and i played it on pc around the time Snake Eater was released. So i heard about that cool guy snake and all that stuff, and i guess that make me felt that the switch to Raiden was... pretty cool. You look forward to meet snake in the game and all the time you like "yeah i really want to be as cool as he is" and when it turns out that all the plot is just about making a new hero i was just blown. I loved it.
my favourite metal gear
No Raiden is not "alright" he is and forever will be fuckin' LAME.
***** LOL Hideo tried soooo hard to make Raiden cool.
He was supposed to be. Kojima made MGS1 as a deconstruction of the action movie genre that backfired and made Snake one of the most iconic characters in gaming.
MGS2 was supposed to deconstruct player expectations and human culture, so he teased nothing but Snake in the trailers but ended up giving us Raiden, who is a representation of the player; People wanted to play as Snake again, and Raiden wanted to be as badass as Snake.
There's a video I found a few months ago that goes into extreme analysis about everything the game does. It's called "Critical Close-Up Metal Gear Solid 2" by "Super Bunnyhop". It does a good job explaining all the mind fucks the game gives you towards the end, as well as the roles that Snake and Raiden play.
I played these when I was a kid (probably shouldn’t have lol) and this was/is my favorite video game series ever. Played MGS pretty late on the PS1 probably around 02’ got a PS2 I think in 04’ and played MGS2 and I experienced every Jeremy said. Still loved it though. I used to play the Tanker mission with Snake and upon completion restart the game to play it again.
Metal Gear Solid fans question: could I just play the HD Collection which has Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and Peace Walker and understand things, or do I have to go all the way to MGS 1 to get a full grasp of what's going on? Ive yet to jump on this MGS train but after seeing many reviews i'm really considering it. Help me please...
First play Mgs 3, Mgs: Pw and Mgs 2 if you are playing the HD collection
I'm loving this game atm, however Rose is pissing me the fuck off.
Shoot the birds, she'll dump you
........NEVER AGAIN!!! Even though I never shot them
Your George bush made me fucking die it was great.
The way they introduce 'Vamp' was so bloody and shocking! One of the best scenes in MGS history.
I think when I fell in love with raiden was at that one point were he went back to back with snake. At that point i just had to admit that is one of the most badass things you can ever do
That was a great George Bush impression
It looked more like he was doing an Andy Sandberg impression doing a G.W impression xD
I NEED SCISSORS! 61!
I must say, you do wrap up a good review. I love MGS with a passion and though I cannot play it, I have MGS Integral Japanese import.
Wait a minute, Wasn't the Tanker-mission only accessible AFTER you beat the main game?
