The main album I am shocked wasn’t on this list is Heartwork
I'm pretty sure they had it as 3rd for the best death metal albums🫤. Loudwire have no consistency between their lists.
That makes no sense considering how much death metal made their top 50 of all time @@theyescapedtheweightofdarkness

I'm kinda surprised by how decent this list is. Big metal magazines usually manage to put the most god-awful stuff in their "best xyz" lists. Like Baby Metal and 9 generic nu metal bands being the top 10 metal bands of all time or something like that.
As far as this list goes, I mostly agree. Though it does have a chronic lack of Blind Guardian to represent power metal.
Yeah I think this list is one of their best was hard to order as they picked a lot of good albums
Thanks for mentioning Baby Metal. The biggest joke I've ever seen. I can't understand how metal fans can actually enjoy that silly garbage.
Korn's debut album is in s tier and Pantera vulgar display of power, for me personally. I do respect your list.
I get what you mean with Paul Baloff’s voice, but man…Bonded by Blood is probably the best written thrash metal album outside of Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer’s best albums. Iconic song after iconic song.
I hadn't listened to Exodus at all so I just gave them a chance because of this comment. I'm at "a lesson in violence" right now and I think the album is excellent so far. Not loving the vocals but the song writing is on par with if not better than Metallica's early stuff
There is no way on Earth that Mayhem are one of the 50 best albums ever. The vocals are terrible and the production is worse than bad, not completely disrespecting the band I actually quite like Mayhem but for a top 50 album it has to be completely amazing, I think they were put here just because of the influence they had on black metal. It kind of feels like that's what they've based there choices on here. Also big fan of Anthrax bit I wouldn't say Amongst the living is good enough to break a top 50 either... maybe top 100

Mayhem are the least of my fav black metal bands, but no one can deny the under ground influence of “ De Mysteriies……
Most album rankings are filled with classics that are not actually that good and leave out some amazing albums

Comparing any Mayem record with "Under the Sign of the Black Mark" for me is puzzling to say the least.
Awesome video, hard to argue with any of those rankings really.

Emperor's Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk is my favorite album of all time, Blackwater Park and Images & Words are also in my top 10.

I was more mad at the loud wire list haha, felt like they just put the most popular albums from each band on and not actual thought. But I actually really like your list mostly because I too love prog more than anything
Reign in Blood, Master of Puppets & Abigail would have to be in S tier for me.
Toxicity C? bruh
Them/Conspiracy are like a double album to me. It is my favorite work by King Diamond and that includes Mercyful Fate. But I am so happy to see Mercyful Fate win. King is my number one metal vocalist. Also liked the placements of Mindcrime and Images and Words. Images and Words two biggest influences are Mindcrime and material from Rush. A couple of other things that are different with me are that I don’t like Ride The Lightning that much or Master of Puppets. If I like any Metallica album a lot it would be And Justice for All. Also I put Peace Sells above Rust In Peace but just by a hair for two reasons Devils Island and Good Mourning Black Friday. I can’t stand Pantera as I hate that tough guy image Phil puts on.

There are some major albums I'm surprised that were not on this list. Some obviously made it just because they were influential, rather than good. Albums that belong on this list:

Coroner is so good
Dirt is one of my top 10 metal albums. But Deep Purple Machine Head is more rock so I would not include them on this list. Actually Fireball is my favorite Purple album. Ritchie Blackmore is my favorite guitarist of all time.

Powerslave and Number of the beast and Don’t break the oath should be the top 3 and everything comes after ..but I respect everyone’s opinion all these albums are killers and very important to the genre ..maybe I would discard Korn Slipknot and Mastodon but still I can’t deny how great these albums are ..and also I would switch wolverine blues with left hand path ..great video hails

I haven't heard all of these but I know Sad Wings of Destiny would go high for me. Third favourite Priest album after Painkiller and Turbo.

Great ranking, but I don't understand some of Loudwire's picks. Like not criticising their choices, but to me Painkiller is the best Priest album, and way better than British Steel.

That might just be the most offensive thing I've ever heard. haha Bonded By Blood is in my top 3 greatest metal albums of all time. :) While System of a Down is as uninteresting as Eminem or Green Day or something. :D But taste is like buttholes, split and hairy. haha Cheers!

Dio will never be better than Ozzy.
Well that depends on opinions. For me Ozzy was better for Black Sabbath but Dio has the edge for solo work. Dio is obviously way more talented and the Black Sabbath albums with Dio on them sound much more like Dio albums than traditional Black Sabbath.
Except he objectively is better as a singer and songwriter. You could say he fits better in to Sabbath but that's about it
I think every slipknot album is trash.
Killswitch Engage is so much better.
