Pagan Altar was one of the earliest Doom Metal bands, but often overlooked even by Doom Fans. As for The Obsessed, it's Scott Weinrich's original band and his main band when he's not with Saint Vitus. Great ranking for the most part! 🤘
You're ranking was soo good and then you had to shit the bed moving Tool to A+ when you had it right the first time with S tier. Fun list - great content.
Great video. Would have loved to see you rank Agalloch, Enforced, Powertrip, Defheaven, Vektor, Ulcerate, Mgla, Blood Incantation, Temple of Void, etc. But I’m not complaining. Awesome work!
The band at 39:09 that you said was something on a cereal box, is an English thrash metal band called Xentrix. I absolutely love these guys. If you haven't already, check out their second album from 1990, For Whose Advantage.

Would it have been triple dipping to include Rainbow because you already had black sabbath and DIO and he would technically appeared 3 times on this list?
That was fun. I was triggered by a few choices. Of course this is about personal taste, as you said. I love Deftones and they would probably go A+ tier. Judas Priest and Black Sabbath are S tier for me without a doubt. You may enjoy Pagan Altar. Classic doom. The Obsessed is also doom but with a hardcore punk influence. Wino from Saint Vitus leads The Obsessed and they are similar.
37:13 Helstar (Power/speed metal band from Texas, known for heavy incorporation of vampire/occult-related themes; somewhat comparable in sound to bands like Jag Panzer and Agent Steel, with perhaps a dash of Mercyful Fate) 39:01 Xentrix (British thrash band, fairly similar in sound to Testament; generally considered one of the U.K.'s 'Big Four' of thrash alongside Onslaught, Sabbat, and Acid Reign)

I thought it was the old Immortal logo and not the Marduk logo? Quite difficult to separate them though! I made my own list before watching and only found room for 3 bands in S tier: Darkthrone, Blind Guardian and Rammstein.
Cold Lake isn't a bad album, it just shouldn't have been a Celtic Frost album. Tom should have made a new moniker for it. I love the album XD Also, the energy drink logo band is Xentrix, a UK thrash band. They're quite good.
Definitely check out Battle Cry by Omen, By Inheritance by Artillery, For Whose Advantage by Xentrix, Magical & Mythical by Pagan Altar, Skeptics Apocalypse by Agent Steel and my two favorite albums of all time: Death or Glory and Stronger than Evil by Heavy Load 🤘🏻
I do have a few of the Same S-level bands as you - Bolt Thrower, Death. But I would also have Carcass there, and Tool as well. Maybe even Coroner, if not then they would definitely be A+. You did say something that really caught me off guard- you said that Obituary all sounds the same and nothing stands out. Have you really listened to Cause of Death? Repeated listening to commit it to memory? I had it when it first came out, and I can say that even today when I randomly have a riff going through my head there is a 50% chance it's from Cause of Death.
Artilley, Xentrix and Heavy Load are the top 3 you haven't heard that I'd recommend. Artillery are the greatest Danish Thrash band, Xentrix are (probably) the greatest British Thrash band maybe on level with Evile(which are more Thrash revival) and Heavy Load are brilliant NWOBHM-style Heavy Metal. Phil Lynott played bass on the song Free - check that one out! And it's hilarious that the band Free did a song called Heavy Load, while the band Heavy Load did a song called Free!
Funny, “Whatever the hell that is” is my favorite metal band of all time. Helstar…Probably the most underrated metal band ever. They were absolutely destroying their peers(Megadeth, Anthrax, Metallica) live in the mid 80’s.
solid list most of the things I agree with or would only move up or down one spot with ONE exception entombed in b? have you lost your mind?! there second only to boltthrower thrower! ps were would you put goat moon on this list?
Damn, as a thrasher it hurts to see you don't know Agent Steel, Xentrix, Sacred Reich or Artillery. Check out For Whose Advantage, Ignorance and By Inheritance, all excellent albums.
Great list! Definitely check out Helstar, they are pioneers in the US Power / Speed Metal scene, in the vein of early Iced Earth. Distant Thunder and Nosferatu albums are God tier! Heavy Load is in a similar vein too, Conan the Barbarian vibes!
This is probably my favorite video by you. My favorite band is Mercyful Fate/King Diamond. The only issue I have with this list is that they were made as two bands. I would have made it one. Reason being King writes virtually everything on both projects. Opeth is my second favorite and My Dying Bride my third even though they were not featured here. Oh and thank you thank you for putting Dillinger Escape Plan in F. I listened to one album by them. When it was done I wanted to throw up.
Hey man great list! Really interesting videos and love your channel. I was just wondering could you send a list of modern metal bands that play “Classic/Traditional” Standard Heavy Metal but with modern sounding heavy instruments? So a similar style to bands like Enforcer and White Wizard, Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest but with a sound that’s modern like Primal Fear or Judas Priests Firepower album.
I was about to cry as I saw that you put Sonata Arctica only in A tier and COB only in B tier. That was kinda sad... Just kidding Great Video was fun to watch

Artillery - By Inheritance is one of the best thrash albums ever, definitely the best one I know from Scandinavia Sacred Reich - Ignorance, Surf Nicaragua, The American Way are definitely worth checking out Xentrix - not my most favourite, but still solid. Check out Shattered Existence and For Whose Advantage.

I love these, you're puttng yourself at major risk here aswell by doing 100 bands; that's atleast 100 pissed off people haha. Gonna go through what were my favourite bands & whether you got them in a good spot or not. First of all, Disturbed in F? C'mon, c'mon you're just lying to yourself, you know they're atleast in C, they still play their old songs live & the fact their still a band after being on hiatus for like 5 years stands tall to their testamony. Every single song is good but like, sometime it just feels like I'm listening to the ame song with a different riff, which is weird to say. Anthrax in B, I can get behind. Fairly average, pretty gateway material but still good. I didn't need to write any of this but I did. If there's anything I took away from this it's that I got a few more bands to listn too.
I know this list 'only' covered 100 bands or so and there are many more to talk about. With that said, this list tries to cover all the metal subgenres more or less but completely ignored 1 of them: symphonic metal. Yes, yes, pure metal fans who hate female lead singers and all that, but metal is metal and if you're covering all the different subgenres you should cover at least a few of those. Top 3 are obviously Nightwish, Epica and Within Temptation. Also it's weird for a list that covers black metal bands to not have Mayhem, Emperor and Burzum in it. There are also plenty of others like Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, etc but I get that you can't include everything, but as a Brit where is Cradle of Filth? And speaking of incomplete parts, German thrash metal without Destruction and Tankard? That's 2 of the big 4 AWOL.
Wow! Some of your picks really baffle me 😂 Mostly the placement of SOAD, LOG, Trivium, Slipknot, A7X and similar bands, who to me are D tier at their absolute peak, and I'm feeling generous. Especially above bands like Satan, Possessed, Electric Wizard. And Coroner (who are S tier without a shadow of a doubt!) But this is your list, not mine so I can't argue with your selelction, I just thought our tastes were more similar. And dude, absofuckinglutely check out every single band you put in 'Not heard!' Each and every single one of them is amazing! All of them ranging from A to A+ for me, Helstar and Omen may even reach S.
@@jurekavcic4369 Everything. Talented musicans and all that, but their music and sound just does absolutely nothing for me. I'm obviously not a fan of this alternative metal/metalcore stuff from the 00s and things on that end of the spectrum. Bores me to death
@@ingolfrvargr yeah I don't like metalcore either, but Shogun and In The Court of the dragon by Trivium and self titled, nightmare and the stage by Avenged Sevenfold are some of my favorite metal albums. Especially the proggy songs because my favorite genre is prog.
@@all_the_good_names_are_gon68 Yep. I respect them as musicians and I know their music is well crafted and all that, but I wouldn't put them any higher than D tier since their music just doesn't do shit for me. I just don't gel with anything they've done, so yeah, D it is.
Savatage is S tier for me without any question. One of the greatest bands of all time. Love 'em to death. Other bands i would rank differently are Metallica (D tier at best - only because of their first 4 albums), Tool (also D tier), never really got into them, although i tried many times. In Flames also lost a lot of credibility in my book after Clayman (i would put them in C tier). Other then that i can relate to your ratings. Maybe +/-1 here and there. But ranking 100 bands is not an easy task. I did a lot of those rankings back in the 90s with my friends and it ended up almost every time in heated discussions.
You put Hypocrisy in A, so I approve this list. I don't approve Marduk, Accept, Sabaton and Slayer in D and Arch Enemy and Hammerfall in F, but what are you gonna do.
Right there with you on Deftones. I’ve never understand why people call White Pony a classic record. I’ve seen them twice live at festivals. Walked away with same opinion both times.
I liked your video as soon as you stated Opeth were no 1 all time....though Sabbath should also be S .... They are The Beatles of metal sir....been getting into a few of the other bands out of all the others here recently...will check out the ones not heard in your S tier for sure...loving Amorphis recently and Cirith Ungol too... Cathedral also really got into recently...agree that Tool don't make S tier....much like Dream Theatre for me they have that little something that irritates me on every album...something cold in their DNA....despite obvious excellence. Of the many missing bands from this list despite obvious excellence in their craft...love Yob...they are an S band for me...along with Cult of Luna (competing for 1st place with Opeth.) And for operatic metal....Nightwish are top end A+ at least....and def an S standard live band. I'd also put Ghost in S for sheer song writing prowess but perhaps getting too poprock orientated for this list there....
Look I listen to metal and i have for years at this point but if i cant make out your band name on your album covers I'm just going to assume your some kind of Black Metal band I don't want to listen to.
I’m surprised no 🤘Inquisition 🤘which should have been in S since Questy has stated that they are his favorite black metal band. They are my favorite as well. Dagon is a riff genius and songwriter and Incubus is in the elite class of black metal drummers. Also, where is the great Immortal?
This is easily the worst list I have ever seen for this specific tier list. I mean the lack of objectivity is astounding. If you want to rank them based on how much you enjoy the music, that is fine. But if you are going to make the claim about how talented they are, music writing ability, consistency of discography, etc., then you have to at least be somewhat objective. Opeth- how is opeth the best of all of these bands? Yeah some of the earlier stuff was good, but they have an extremely inconsistent discography. I get the band has had many changes in its lineup but it doesn't matter, the net result is their music quality isn't consistent. For an S caliber band, I feel like there has to be very little flaws the band has, and this isn't it. I would say a B worthy band. Blind guardian? Like what objective factors can make blind guardian better than all the other bands on this list by a landslide? Deftones, The Dillinger Escape Plan, KORN, Fear Factory, Disturbed, Killswitch Engage…like what the fuck are they doing so low. At the absolute worst case scenario they are all C tier bands. When you say these bands are F and D tier that essentially means they have no qualities about them that are good. Damn, I dont even really like Deftones but they still deserve B/C tier based on impact, consistent quality of albums, creativity, etc. How is In Flames B tier with how bad the previous albums have been but the bands above are D/F tier? The scale you are using to make these decisions makes zero sense.
@@Transilvanian90 I know they were in the same era but I really wouldn’t consider system nu metal. They also wrote the most popular metal song of all time in chop suey. Also probably the most talented band overall on the list. No one can really cover system because of how unique all the members were.
@@V3RT1C0N talented is extremely subjective. As for popularity… what are you even talking about? Plenty of Metallica, black sabbath and iron maiden songs blow Chop Suey out of the water…

But this is your list, not mine so I can't argue with your selelction, I just thought our tastes were more similar.
And dude, absofuckinglutely check out every single band you put in 'Not heard!' Each and every single one of them is amazing! All of them ranging from A to A+ for me, Helstar and Omen may even reach S.
what's wrong with Trivium and A7X?
@@jurekavcic4369 Everything. Talented musicans and all that, but their music and sound just does absolutely nothing for me. I'm obviously not a fan of this alternative metal/metalcore stuff from the 00s and things on that end of the spectrum. Bores me to death
@@ingolfrvargr yeah I don't like metalcore either, but Shogun and In The Court of the dragon by Trivium and self titled, nightmare and the stage by Avenged Sevenfold are some of my favorite metal albums. Especially the proggy songs because my favorite genre is prog.
LoG in D at their peak? Dude, please..
I LOVE Ulcerate. The BEST band in the world.Waiting new album this year
where the fuck is Mayhem?
Idk, whoever made this list was a bit... special.
Mayhem, Emperor, Ulver... 3 of the most important Black Metal acts outside of this list.
Deftones in the F tier almost killed me
Yeah they shuld be lower
Right off the bat Megadeth, Running Wild, Candlemass, Death, and Black Sabbath are S tier for me (gotta get a but of everything lol)
Agree with all the S tier except for Tool. They are good but not that good
A lot of this list hurt my soul but i appreciate not being the only one on the planet that thinks deftones is overrated dog water
When does this guy actually get the chance to listen to so much metal???
In bed 😴 gotta sacrifice that sleep
tool is my fav. but you dont have alice in chains i guess they are grunge but they were the best grunge. nice job tho
Oooh boy here we go.
S: Carcass, Edge of Sanity, Megadeth, Death, Dissection, Sodom, Dillinger Escape Plan
A+: Nevermore, Voivod, Symphony X, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Cryptopsy, Testament, Stratovarius, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, BTBAM, Mastodon, Vader, Sleep, Judas Priest

D: Pestilence, Trivium, Sabaton, Accept, Saxon, Overkill, Dream Theater, Venom, Marduk, Possessed, A7X, Slayer
F: Necrophagist, Machine Head, Arch Enemy, Hammerfall, Iced Earth
Great effort blackwater love it
You put Hypocrisy in A, so I approve this list. I don't approve Marduk, Accept, Sabaton and Slayer in D and Arch Enemy and Hammerfall in F, but what are you gonna do.
i LOVE Opeth
Savatage must go A!
My S tier would be:
Tool
Symphony X
Sabbath
Metallica
Iron Maidan
Right there with you on Deftones. I’ve never understand why people call White Pony a classic record. I’ve seen them twice live at festivals. Walked away with same opinion both times.
Tool should be in S tier
You miss out on a lot of good stuff that way, some black metal bands are completely essential.
Pantera in B????????
He said he enjoys them alot but doesnt listen to them as much maybe he will listen to more pantera soon
No mortician 🥲
Too much power metal early on, gotta skip
In terms of song quality I'd put Deftones above everything in this list. Chino is really inconsistent live though.
Agent steel...omega conspiracy.. listen to Questy must.. OR NO resty for Questy. Ha ha
Manowar??
Vader is a death metal not thrash
I never said they were thrash I said they were thrashy. They did used to be thrash though before becoming death metal
Where are Nile and Behemoth?
Probably on tour
This list is ridiculous
Yeah, it's missing a ton of essential bands.
Killswitch engage and korn in d is bizarre
Blind Guardian a S and Dream Theater an A. Am i missing something?
Deftones in F tier god damn it bro.
IKR WTF😰😰
Gonna get a lot of hate for this but... where the fucking hell is Manowar man?
S tier clearly 😁
I just started watching. This list better be exactly how my opinions expect it to be...or else I'm unsubscribing!!!
Ooof sorry about that. I was taking life too seriously and pretending to be self entitled. Lol
Metallica is by far the best metal band ever but u don’t put them s tier. You have a serious problem
Metallica is massively overrated. They're not even the best of the Big 4.
You probably must be the first person that I see don't liking Deftones.
Disturbed goes S jijijá
You know it’s pretty simple to understand. The bands are in their respective tiers because I like them different amounts 🤷♂️ Simples 🤡
Touch grass
Handling difference of opinion is not your strong suit wow 😂
21st century schizoid mannnnnnnn
People actually listen to Blind Guardian?? 🤔
you know at the end of day Tool is S-tier don't kid yourself fanboy
System in the b tier is disgraceful
Yeah, they belong in D at best.
@@Transilvanian90 only someone who couldn’t get a grade higher than D would think that
@@V3RT1C0N System of a Down and other nu-metal really, really isn't my thing. They don't even belong on this list to begin with.
