45+ 2010s Bands. 1 Video. Let's rank 'em up! (This is primarily for well known / acclaimed acts, not smaller ones no shade to them at all)
If coin was on here where would you put them?
LOL, no Black Keys should make most question this guy’s taste in music. 1 Direction? WTF?
@@lookluke4063 sheesh. this guy gets only 16,000 views because he doesn’t seem to interact with fans.
I agree with BMTH’s ranking. They’re one of a few bands that started in the 2000s that imo got significantly better once the 2010s hit (a decade where a handful of bands from the 90s and 00s really lost their spark/made divisive material).
Should’ve been S tier
I can’t deny the influence that Tame Impala and Florence and the Machine had on alternative music in the 2010s. Not gonna lie, some of these bands on this list brought a little nostalgia to me.
Black Keys with Brothers (2010) and El Camino (2011) can’t be skipped.
I definitely agree with Tame Impala/Kevin Parker’s ranking. He’s definitely important to the sound of the 2010s, and their music is really good imo. My username definitely checks out lol
really digging these tier list ideas, right on man!
the ones i’ve listened to:
•S - Bring Me the Horizon, Royal Blood
•A - Foster the People, Florence + the Machine, Waterparks, Twenty One Pilots, Walk the Moon, Tame Impala, MGMT
•B - Nothing But Thieves, The Neighbourhood, Ghost, King Gizzard, Neck Deep, Glass Animals, Beartooth
•C - Black Veil Brides, 5 Seconds of Summer, Imagine Dragons, One Direction, Haim, Fun, The 1975, Bastille, Vampire Weekend, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers
•D - Sleeping With Sirens, Falling in Reverse
•F - AJR, Five Finger Death Punch (yeah no seriously wtf are these bands..)
I would argue The 1975 should be at least A tier if not S, though I am heavily biased. They were one of the most influential bands in the indie scene over that decade, with countless acts inspired by them and many just blatantly ripping them off. Considering Notes isn't in this decade I would say all the decades albums are incredible (I rate Brief Inquiry far higher than you do tbf) so I can't see them any lower than A. Album 5 is on the way too, with the first single coming on July 7th, hopefully it's a return to form after the huge disappointment of Notes.
Which bands are/were ripping them off?
John just hates them for no reason. Don’t take it personally. I think everybody else would agree The 1975 are one of the most popular/influential bands of the 2010s.
Agreed. The 1975 are my favorite new band that began during that decade. There are only a handful of songs by them that I don't love before NOACF. And even Notes has some incredible highs. Overall, i like it when you sleep is one of my favorite albums of all time. Just beautiful and diverse, while still sounding fully cohesive. Their self titled debut LP (including the bonus EP tracks), as well as ABIIOR are also modern classics in my opinion. That was an incredible run through their first three full length records. Even their loosies and singles like "Medicine" are among my favorite songs of the 2010s. The 1975 is also fascinating in that they've really evolved through each album. And from the sounds of their next album coming later this year, that evolution will continue. The 1975 are S tier, no question.
Yeah it really doesn't make any sense. The 1975 are absolutely massive, they can play the 02 Arena 3 nights in a row and sell out all 3 shows in minutes. They are extremely unique, and The Sex EP, the self titled album, and I like It When You Sleep were absolute juggernaut albums and some of the most important indie work put out in the entire decade.
@@jackcox2830 Yeah I don't understand how someone so high on bands like Green Day and Paramore can have this weird, non sensical downplaying for a band as good, talented, and unique as The 1975. It's just.......odd.
I would say if you want to get further into King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard's discography, definitely take each album at a snail's pace and don't rush despite the overwhelming number of albums they've released. And when in doubt, always remember: The power of the Gizz compels you.
Solid collection of bands that encapsulates the 2010s pretty well. I agree with everyone saying that CHVRCHES should be mentioned here since I believe they are the most popular synth-pop band of the 2010s. I might be biased since they are one of my favorite bands but still I think they deserve a mention. For my own ranking I would also add Deafheaven and Modern Baseball. I think Modern Baseball are probably the most well known emo band of the 2010s and Defheaven popularized and made the genre of blackgaze mainstream, within metal, in terms of critical and commercial success.
So glad to see Nothing More included in here. They're one of my favorite bands of the last few years and they were a blast to see live.
I want to show some love to Modern Baseball. Imo they’re the 2010’s emo band who’s music holds up the best to listen to now. They had a massive hit with The Weekend, and didn’t burned so brightly from their debut in 2012, to Holy Ghost and eventual break up.
The brightest stars tend to burn out the most quickly a lot of times. But I feel if you’re gonna include some of that emo era they shouldn’t get forgotten
Glad to see both my suggestions from the live stream - YTG and WTM - make the A tier! Impatiently waiting for LP5 after the announcement of YTG new single dropping next Wednesday!
So happy KGLW got such a good shout out. They are by far away the most innovative band out there in my opinion. I've listened to every album of theirs and there are very few flat points. I genuinely wish more bands would experiment and have fun as much as these Aussies do. A great great band.
Twenty One Pilots and The 1975 definitely were probably the most influential bands of the 2010's, soooo many bands rip them off and are heavily influenced from them
My personal ranking with the bands I know enough about (and by that I mean more than one song):
S: Royal Blood
A: Nothing But Thieves, Bring Me the Horizon, Florence + the Machine, Imagine Dragons
B: Mumford & Sons, Wolf Alice, Vampire Weekend, Bastille, One Direction
C: Haim, Fun, the XX, Twenty-One Pilots, the 1975, 5 Seconds of Summer
D: AJR, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Falling in Reverse, Black Veil Brides, Glass Animals, Greta Van Fleet, Nothing More
F: Five Finger Death Punch, Sleeping With Sirens
The only reason NBT didn't get top tier (I do really like them) is because I haven't heard their self titled debut yet, and Moral Panic, which was from 2020 is what got me into them. I'm not too big on BMTH anymore, but I still love That's The Spirit, and I can't deny their importance this decade. On the contrary, Imagine Dragons are my favourite band on this list, but I can't put them in top tier just because of their downfall later on in the decade.
One Direction would have been a tier lower if it wasn't for their enjoyable slew of singles they released after Zayn left (and I still maintain their One Way or Another cover is good). Regarding the lower tiers, I give AJR the benefit of the doubt as the only songs I've heard of theirs are the most hated ones (also they're not big in the UK so I've not had to deal with on the radio), and as much as I hate GVF's unoriginality at least they're an actual rock band, which is nice in the era of pop rock domination.
I don't know a lot about Nothing More but my mum once made me listen to one of their albums in the car (I think it was The Stories We Tell Ourselves) and I couldn't get past Johnny Hawkins' voice, and I found them very overproduced.
Also, if Biffy Clyro and Arctic Monkeys qualified as 2010's bands ,they'd be S tier in an instant.
Black Veil Brides, Neck Deep and The Wonder Years made my top 5 rock/metal albums of the 2010s with We Stitch These Wounds, Life's Not Out to Get You and Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing. Number 3 and 4 are A7X's Nightmare and All Time Low's Don't Panic.
I remember being bored one night and clicked on a video for a group called Twenty One Pilots. The song was Holding on to You. I kept asking myself why do I like this. I'm in my 40's, I hate rap, but still kept hitting the replay button. I went and bought their album Vessel, and once again I asked myself why do I like this. I'm too old to like this. Then came their second album Blurryface. And once again why do I like this. The lyrics don't make a lot of sense to me, but once again Tyler Joseph's voice is full of emotion, even when he raps. I also ask myself why do I like Beyond ARTV? I have no idea who a lot of the artist are that John talks about. I'm old school and music from the 80's and 90's are my go to, so why do I like this channel. It's because John is funny, and his enthusiasm for music is highly entertaining.
This means a lot to me man. Thank you!
Awesome video! Thank you
I found out about The Struts in 2017 and they very quickly became one of my favorite bands. I first discovered them when I saw them that year at a small festival in New Jersey and I was absolutely blown away by their set. Fast forward 5 years later and now I just saw them at Welcome to Rockville this past month. It was my 6th time seeing them, and they are by far the band that I’ve seen live the most
Totally agree with King Gizzard’s discography being so intimidating, I have been slowly checking out their albums and I find their sound so addictive that it’s kinda hard to stop by now lol. So far my favorites are I’m In Your Mind Fuzz and Fishing For Fishies, which the former I actually bought on vinyl recently I loved it so much. Super solid band I haven’t heard a bad album so far it’s just maybe they put out TOO many good albums to the point that looking at their discography makes me start nervously sweating lol
Thank you for including Code Orange
They were phenomenal when I saw them with KoRn and Chevelle
I agreed with nearly all of your rankings somehow, nothing but thieves is definitely S tier for modern bands… Conor is a killer vocalist and they have a distinct unique sound with great instrumentals so underrated not massively popular
I love Walk the Moon so much. Favorite band by a long shot and the majority only know them for "Shut Up and Dance". Their Major Label Debut is one of my favorite albums all time and Talking is Hard is overall solid af as well
Should have actually not talked about AJR and picked Two Door Cinema Club instead but still a great list
i love that this community shares the music taste that i have.
I like when you do videos like these because it’s interesting to see how you talk about a wide variety of different bands.
Here’s my tier list of 2010’s bands I’ve listened to:
S-twenty one pilots, the 1975
A-Car seat headrest, MGMT, AJR, king gizzard and the lizard wizard, beach house, daft punk, chvrches, wolf Alice, modern baseball, vampire weeknd, walk the moon, pierce the veil, bring me the horizon, Waterparks
B-neck deep, imagine dragons, Mumford and sons, knuckle puck, remo drive, ghost, glass animals, tame impala, fun, the story so far, cage the elephant
C-royal blood, the neighborhood, one direction, 5 seconds of summer
D-Greta van fleet, x ambassadors, the script, bastille
F-five finger death punch
Imagine Dragons ahead of Royal Blood? Fucking hell you’re brave
@@iliketrains3495 thanks I guess, I honestly never got the hype around royal blood and imagine dragons was the first band I ever got to really know so they are extremely nostalgic for me which is why I place them as high as I did.
@@Alexander-hi8bo I’m an Imagine Dragons fan too, but I feel like Royal Blood really have a true ‘saviours of rock’ hype surrounding them, and their music slaps
Lol everyone seems to hate FFDP but me . 😂
This list is missing Echosmith and Turnover. Now those bands are so good
You know, i've had hard time getting into new bands during the last decade, i'm an "old head", very much into 90s bands especially...
But couple of years ago i fell hard for Tame Impala. Now, i decided to dive into 21 Pilots as i had liked couple of songs i heard across the years and... Holy f*** they are good. My mind is blown 🤯
Great to see both of them in the S tier! So i guess i'm on the right track. I'm currently checking out more of the bands in the first 3 tiers 👍
Would have loved to see where you would put atl since they've had some real ups (dont panic) and downs (last young renegades) that decade which would make for an interesting ranking
King gizz is easily my top band of the 2010s. So glad you have them S tier!
@John, I am late to your video, but I would have loved to see where PVRIS would have ranked. They have a really good catalog.
Im actually curious to hear which king gizzare albums you have heard, Id assume nonagon infinity is one
I honestly feel like bring me belong in the S tier.
Absolute blasphemy that they aren’t. And if Florence and the Machine and Vampire Weekend somehow made S tier, Royal Blood and Cage the Elephant should be too
@@atomicpunk2360 I don’t listen to much CTE but I strongly agree about royal blood.
Agree with a lot of your rankings! And Bastille has always rubbed me the wrong way.
It’s hard to narrow down so many bands to rate. It’s a good list for sure. There are a few more I would add:
Lorde
Dua Lipa
Citizen
Kacey Musgraves
The Maine (Arguably)
You could make a part 2 for sure!
Dua Lipa will probably be more defining for the 2020's
@@evj4082 You’re right. I thought Future Nostalgia was 2019.
Dua lipa and lorde aren’t bands
Surprised to see no CHVRCHES here. They are the first thing that comes to mind when I think of 2010's synth-pop, especially with how iconic the Mother we Share is.
I really hope Highly Suspect does make a comeback! And can't wait to see Nothing More bring more to the table!
17:58 absolutely!!
You’re forgetting MAN LIKE MACHINE super underrated. Jonny is a killer and slay me are best two rock songs of the 2010s
This video must be showed to all the people who say that aren't good music now
First: great video!
Second: I think Imagine Dragons, Chvrches, Onerepublic, The Midnight should have been here. Anyways, great video
Imagine Dragons are on here! And OneRepublic count as a 2000s band. Should’ve gotten CHVRCHES though you’re right on that! Thanks for watching
Speaking of CHVRCHES, Jon how was the concert in Charlotte?
Thank you for giving falling in reverse some respect and atleast giving them a C lmao if it was based only on their first record I personally would put them in B or A tier tbh but they definitely do deserve to be in C now. I just wish you included pierce the veil and crown the empire tho
Halestorm try too hard to stay in the hard rock/metal genre, but they absolutely shine on more straight up rock songs and ballads. They’re a great live band as well.
I almost thought BMTH was gonna be S tier but I'll take A tier
I was not expecting Nothing More to be on here. They've honestly become one of my favorite bands of all time just from their first two albums. I'd say their ranking on this list is pretty accurate tho, cuz they arent the "most" well known band and Stories was definitely not as good as Self Titled (which I have as a 9.5/10). If their first album came out a year later (2010 instead of 2009) that would change things though, since Few not Fleeting is on par with Self Titled in terms of quality.
Do 70s to 90s Bands Tier Lists
A: Crystal Castles
B: Bring Me The Horizon, The Neighbourhood, CHVRCHES, Florence + the Machine, Phantogram
C: IC3PEAK, Years & Years, МЫ, АИГЕЛ, Cream Soda, Пошлая Молли, кис-кис
D: She Past Away, Lebanon Hanover, Kælan Mikla, She Wants Revenge
F: Warpaint, Hey Violet, Washed Out, Boogie Belgique
S Tier = Jon's Spanish Love Songs t-shirt
Waterparks easily take number one for me personally :)
Mouthful of Diamonds by Phantogram is fucking fantastic. Y'all should check it out if you have not heard it.
Wolf Alice and Greta Van Fleet... the supposed return of Rock, done decent imo.
Cage The Elephant only A tier? They are easily GOAT tier
I really wanted to argue with Falling in Reverse going C tier like “really dude? Have you not been paying attention, they’ve been literally the biggest band in rock music for the last 2-3 years.”
…but then I remembered you put 5FDP on F tier 😂
Clearly commercial success is not a big factor here lol
If they were on here, where would you have ranked pierce the veil?
I mean, I’m trying to respect the list. I just feel like more of it is personal rather than impact. On that list there’s really on three bands that should probably be S tier. Bmth (literally carrying metal/rock on their back and the biggest rock band in the world rn), Tame Impala (Carrying as well), and Tøp because they’ve never fell off and are do crazy numbers every time they drop. I also think Falling in reverse should be A tier because they fall behind bmth in carrying the rock scene. Then again I’m into metal and punk. Bmth and The story so far are my two favorite bands. Although, I do agree with the tssf ranking. Trying to be as unbiased as possible, Bmth is just S tier.
I really like Bring Me... but biggest rock band in the world? No shot lol
so many great bands that i like (no Foals though?!)
Foals are technically a 00's band, but then again so are FFDP.
Considering how much everyone throws a hissy fit nowadays crying “REEEE SOUNDS LIKE IMAGINE DRAGONS” whenever a band releases a poppy song, they should have moved up at least a tier just out of influence.
what about coldplay and maroon 5?
Hey your gonna have to react to Rolling Stones 200 best rap album
No Wage War on the list?
The only thing I truly disagree with is putting a band in S tier where you haven't heard majority of their music.
Where is foals
Technically FFDP is from the late 2000’s so could have omitted that group lol
Yeah, but like Bring Me the Horizon, they found more success and exposure in the last decade.
S: *Broken Bells*
WTF man, You’ve included The XX, and not London Grammar? They are just incredibly good (specially vocally) and sold tons of records in the 2010s.
Where’s bon iver?
Catfish and the Bottlemen are no longer a band btw. They never reached their potential sadly
Technically they're still active, but it's just Van and the bassist, and it does look like it might be the end (unless they do a Breaking Benjamin kind of thing where it's almost entirely new members)
@@iliketrains3495 feel like Van will do a Brendon Urie tbh
No Khruangbin no party
Ice Nine Kills
Where’s Biffy?
Highly suspect should be higher. I highly suspect you haven’t listened to them enough.
alt-j is s tier undoubtedly
Black Keys?
2000s, they released a ton of albums that decade
Young The Giant is such an incredible band and they absolutely ruled the alt genre in the 2010s. S Tier band for me.
I have an irrationally strong dislike for Bastille. I almost hate them more than AJR. F for me.
Crystal Castles should be S. Or at least A.
where is paramore
Riot! And BNE were 2000s albums.
Not really comparable to BMTH’s 2000s output as their more well-known albums Sempiternal and TTS (and singles) came out in the 2010s.
Where is Foals????
Total Life forever is probably the best album of the 2010's.
2010’s was one of the worst decades for music.
where was chvrches?
grammar police it's "this band *is" sorry i had to jon
I think migos and run the jewels deserved a mention... migos were one of the most influencial bands in the trap scene and run the jewels had amazing lyrics and production!
These are only actual bands, so Migos don't count
@@iliketrains3495 How is migos not a band?
@@joshhorrobinstanye2266 It's a rap group. They don't play instruments.
@@iliketrains3495 one direction tho?
@@joshhorrobinstanye2266 multiple members play instruments, look up performances
Yeah hard disagree with GVF being that high, they’re literally a Led Zeppelin tribute band and they don’t even try to hide it. I don’t really like classic rock revival bands anyway, but GVF are easily the worst offenders
Nah.
Tell me you’ve listened to 2 songs without telling me lol.
One Direction should've been S tier easily. Not even trolling rn. They revived pop groups and the whole earth was scrambling to ride their coat tails
I just can’t vibe with One Direction
🤢🤮for half of the bands
Lets just pretend you didnt forget to put Arctic Monkeys in the S Tier :)
Arctic Monkeys are most definitely a 00's band
yikes what an L ranking.
I’m sorry did you really just call Led Zeppelin a shitty band lmao
…? Maybe play that one again bud
I hate Glass Animals so much. It's the emptiest and lamest music I've ever heard.
