The Trilogy is one of the best "albums" since With Teeth
In my opinion Pretty Hate Machine should go to the S position next to The Downward Spiral and Fragile.

Ghosts is a 10/10 in my opinion. Honestly, its is one of the most beautiful and harrowing albums of all time, for me. It never fails to heal me when I'm at my lowest points. Thank you for giving it so much well deserved appreciation! An absolute masterpiece and my favourite NIN album of all time.

@@_Wakaz_ I should listen to it agian tbh, my opinions have slightly changed I wouldn't be so fanboyish now and give so many 10's and prefer With Teeth to The Slip and maybe even more than Pretty Hate Machine Idk yet. Also prefer the Downward Spiral to The Fragile. Still like all the projects tho

@@ericthompson9101 Omg almost all of them are so bad. It sounds like a 16 year old talking about revolution after reading some edgy young adult novel hahaha. The lyrics truly did not age well. All of Capital G, The Great Destroyer and Meet your Master are so awfully cringe. Here are some honorable mentions from the rest of the album:

Like, come on.
The Fragile is favourite of theirs. And it’s one of my favourite albums of all time. Everything on it is so, so good! And the production, the complex, immersive sound design and the way it is sequenced just elevates it to top tier art.
Hesitation marks is something I had to grow into. I enjoyed it for a time, haven't given anything newer much of a chance, I do really enjoy How to Destroy angels, quiet different but I hear some of it leaking into the newer NIN stuff.
I feel like I am the only one here who would put Hesitation Marks on A tier. I honestly like the more synth pop approach of this album. My only gripes about it is the A side on the second record is a bit bland but I enjoyed Satellite and Copy of A
I've only got three NIN albums (Pretty Hate Machine, The Downward Spiral, The Slip) but I love them all. I'd have to say Pretty Hate Machine is probably my favourite though I love that bastardised 80s sound for some reason. It feels like a homage and a piss take at the same time. I really love Sanctified (that bass), Sin and the cover of Get Down Make Love.
Weirdly though I've never listened to The Fragile despite loving Just Like You Imagined (it was on a 300 trailer I believe). I'll have to check it out

I recommend you The Fragile, it's a great album. I love Pretty Hate Machine as well and it's always tough for me between PHM and The Downward Spiral to choose my favourite NIN album.

Yes!!! Totally agree with your rankings other than Hesitation marks. I love that album and would rank that one an “A”. For some odd reason in Canada it was removed from Spotify which is terrible. I am 50 years old and listened to NIN since 1989. My absolute favourite album is the Fragile. It literally gives me goosebumps every time I listen and the Fragility concert was beyond memorable.
My first was cassette of PHM, I listened to that a ton, then I got Broken on cassette, these albums along with Ministry. But I got Fixed on CD, this was my first disc. I was blown away by the sound design. Then I found SP Rabies because Al. But man when downward spiral came out it was like another shift in the fabric of industrial music, 1994 thru 1999 I collected so much shit.

This is almost exactly my ranking lol
I feel sorry for all the younger people that didn’t get to experience these albums as they were released or consume them in that order. PHM was my first NiN album and one of my first albums ever purchased. By the way, March of the Pigs was the lead single off TDS, not Closer.
I’m twenty, and NIN caught my ear when I was eight. The music scared the shit out of me when I first heard it. I loved being the only little kid listening to wild shit. As I grew up, I realized that NIN is the only “edgy” band that I can still enjoy wholeheartedly. Fucking incredible music.
I am 52 and thought that PHM wasn't that great when compared with Ministry's The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste or Psalm69.
But the Downward Spiral was a complete game-changer!
Fragile is neck and neck with TDS, though for me Fragile wins out on a personal level with my favorite songs.

NIN has evolved so much. For me, personally, I've loved nearly everything Trent has done. The Downward Spiral is clear #1. It's a masterpiece.
Pretty hate machine is the best album
Okeyyyy... here's mine:
1. The Fragile (Tier S) - Best concept album since Dark Side of the Moon
2. Downward Spiral (Tier S) - Best industrial metal album of all times
3. Ghosts I-IV (Tier A) - Best instrumental album ever and the template for Reznor/Ross film scores
4. Pretty Hate Machine (Tier A) - Best “alternative” debut album
5. Broken (Tier A) - I love the intensity!
6. With Teeth (Tier A) - Best “commercial” industrial rock album
7. Ghosts VI (Tier A) - The devil's in the detail, it really grows on you
8. Ghosts V (Tier B) - Great, but Brian Eno has done this kinda thing much better
9. Year Zero (Tier C) - OK, but the remix version is better
10. Hesitation Marks (Tier C) - Good singles but too many fillers
11. Bad Witch (Tier C) - OK, but I never listen to it
12. Not the Actual Events (Tier C) - Ditto
13. Add Violence (Tier C) - As above
14. The Slip (Tier D) - Just naff... Trying to sound like "this and that" and there is no continuity. It was free for a reason I suppose...

I'll rank the albums I've heard so far
S: The Downward Spiral, The Fragile, Pretty Hate Machine
A: With Teeth, Year Zero, The Slip
B: Broken, Ghosts I-IV
I think Pretty Hate Machine has slowly earned its way into my personal S tier. I just listened to it from beginning to end, and it holds up and I consider Pretty Hate Machine, The Downward Spiral, and The Fragile to be a three album run.
I know you ranked them lower, but I personally love With Teeth, Year Zero, and The Slip and consider them to be a 2000's three album run.
I think Broken is overrated on this list. It's only an EP, and even though it is great for what it is, I would still put it beneath their other 2000's albums. That's just my opinion though.
I haven't heard their 2010's stuff, but I really liked The Social Network score as well as the score for Soul.
I do want to listen to 2010's albums despite them having a not as legendary a reputation.
Thank you for doing this, it is much appreciated. I’ve always loved and appreciate his hard work, diligence, and genius,(in my opinion) as one of the best musicians/artists/compositional performers of all time.

Pretty much my identical ranking. If ranking Still, I would put it B. It does have one of my all time favorite NIN tracks “And All It Could Have Been”.
The Slip was pretty okay. When I saw them live the first time they were supporting The Slip and their performance of Echoplex was a lot of fun and creative.
The Fragile the only track I’m not a fan of is “Im Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally”
With Teeth is okay. In between B and C. Again live when they perform Only was fucking insane.
Year Zero and the remix album is pretty fun. They closed the show with In This Twilight.
Hesitation Marks is meh. Find My Way is the best track.

8:18 oh my god this album is something I always go back to. The interlude and segue tracks
ah... the most interesting thing (at least to me) about Broken is the video directed by Peter Christopherson (from Coil) that got banned everywhere and a few years later Reznor was proud to release the complete uncensored video on the pirate bay and announce it on his site.
Probably still available as a torrent --- but I didn't check it.

Great video. NIN is in my top 3 bands of all time, tied for first of course. I got to see them live in 1999 for their fragile tour, a perfect circle opened up for them and it was amazing. My ranking is
1. The Downward Spiral (deluxe edition including Burn 🔥)

4. With Teeth (amazing)
5. Pretty hate machine (good/much respect for his innovation)
6. Year Zero (good album/love the concept) scary that it’s almost hit a concept with everything happening in the world

They recorded "the Downward Spiral" in Sharon Tate's house where she was murdered in and then they took the door to another studio. Sharon Tate's sister confronted Reznor about, he has since said it was a mistake and soon afterwards, sold the house.
Ghost I - IV is fantastic should be a S and the new Ghost V as well. Not sure why everyone hates it. I thought Year Zero deserves B as well.

I think that when it comes to creativity and quality, the progression of NIN/Trent Reznor speaks of the importance of being a 'have not'.
With more success and acclaim, the music of NIN suffered, in terms of potency and immediacy. The Downward Spiral, Broken, and The Fragile, are wild rides, showcasing music that simply didn't exist before, and, in fairness, still hasn't been replicated.
While I'm all for experimentation and progression, NIN's music hasn't ever reached the heights of those three albums, since.
Trent's pushed extreme music about as far as it goes in his past, so it's probably for the best that he's now focusing more on soundtracks/soundscapes - he's a pioneering colossus, and excels in so many musical fields. I've constantly been in awe of his imagination, and it's fantastic that he's now injecting our movies with industrial grit.
PHM is S tier. Ringfinger, Pretty Lie and Head like a Hole helped get me into industrial in 7th grade.
Props for having Fragile where it belongs in S but you gotta put some respect on Year Zero. Absolutely crushing record

I also love HM! I couldn’t give it a 10 but it’s great. There’s a couple tracks I think are just ok but what does it for me is plonking ‘Everything’ in the middle which is absolutely inexplicable. Like even if I liked the track, it does not fit the album whatsoever…. Trent said he was initially deciding between a rock and electronic direction for HM, obviously the latter won, and Everything was a track from when he was considering the former. So a) why put it on the album, and b) why disrupt the album by putting it in the middle? I’ll never get it

I'm with you that the Fragile was a defining album for me, I think I was 13 when it came out. All time classic. I agree with pretty much everything else said, including Year Zero's Bush era concern to be quite tired. Everything after The Slip is mid and boring IMO.
Year Zero is one, I listen to when it came out. It was one my least favorites. But Year Zero, for me I listen it, Last year it grew on me. Just like fragile did, years after it came out
