@@fcamiola Yeah man, thanks for that. Been into Dillinger Escape Plan, The Hirsch Effekt and Twelve Foot Ninja a lot this year so they look right up my alley too.
Okay, how the @&$& did I never listen to this band before? Well, I know the answer: I was deep into jazz and classical and alternative and had gotten away from the 80s metal and rock I’d grown up with. Thanks to the lockdowns, and a few great UA-camrs like Questy, I started to explore this genre and all that I had missed. Long story short, I can’t stop listening to Blackwater Park. It’s my first, and I know I’ve got a bunch more to explore, but this...is...a masterpiece!! I feel like a kid again, knowing I have a whole huge discography to explore from this band...thank you for opening up this genre to me, and for knowing what you love and not giving a flying &@&$ what others think of your taste in bands! Love it!!
Dude, same here! I was big on 80s thrash but it got boring then I checked out Opeth's Still Life thanks to Questy and it opened my eyes to a whole new subgenre of metal.
Quest For Metal, thank you. I've needed a funny, brutally honest metal channel in my life to fill the void left by Coverkillernation. I have been loving your videos for the past week or two. Keep up the excellent work and greetings from Bangor, Maine, USA.
Blackwater Park's more popular than Still Life mostly for the change of Label and Producer. Their New Label (Music For Nations) actually distributed decently their Music, gave them Tours, and, pretty much, allow more people to know them, and therefore, they finally Broke through. It's really a proof of how much difference being in a decent label makes to a musical Artist.
Ghost Reveries is my favorite because it combines their best death metal with their best prog. Number 2 is Still Life and number 3 is Blackwater Park. Morningrise I will not rate because Black Rose Immortal is my favorite composition from them and the rest of the album is different. Good video. Can never get enough Opeth!

Still have yet to dive super heavily into Opeth, but they are one band that's a high priority for me to check out more of. I've heard their latest album which I really enjoyed, and Blackwater Park which is just about a 10/10 for me. Definitely will be checking out more of these guys in the near future!
I have become a fan of this band and it took a while for sure. It is amazing and hilarious that no two people can agree on the rankings of these albums. Its a testament to their awesomeness.
Damnation for me. But yes, you could throw dice to rank them, because they are all sooooo good. I had great pleasure to see your admiration to Opeth in every sentence and gesture you did. Opeth is religion.
Since they can't all be number 1, I'll go with this list. 1. Blackwater Park 3. Still Life 2. Ghost Reveries 6. Deliverance 4. My Arms, Your Hearse 5. Morningrise 9. Orchid 8. Watershed 7. Damnation 12. Pale Communion 13. Heritage 10. In Cauda Venenum 11. Sorceress Also check out the Martin Mendez side project White Stones - Kuarahy. Fantastic!
This is mine: 13. Heritage 12. Morningrise 11. Sorceress 10. Damnation 9. Pale communion 8. Orchid 7. ICV 6. Deliverance 5. My arms your hearse 4. Watershed 3. Ghost reveries 2. Blackwater park 1. Still life
I agree with you on your least favorite albums released by Opeth and I do agree with you, regarding Opeth being a favorite band. It's one of my favorite groups, as well. However, I have a different ranking, considering their top three releases. This is my top three: *1)* _Morningrise_ (1996): a *very* beautiful and complex album, with remarkable basslines, mainly what we listen to. Love it, from "Advent" to "To Bid You Farewell". "Advent" is mighty beautiful, with so many good riffs, like the one from 3:19 to 4:21 of that song, and the gorgeous interlude from 5:43 to 8:06. Not to mention the bright reference the song has, regarding Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name", at the 13:02 section. "The Night and the Silent Water" is a pure beauty, a reference to Mike's deceased grandpa. Then, comes "Nectar", one of my most favorite Opeth songs: brilliant basslines, powerful drumming and vocals. My favorite section from it goes from 4:50 to 6:18. "Black Rose Immortal" is music history in one piece. Beautiful. Beautiful. Really beautiful, with a nice Black Metal reference at the end of it. The interlude that goes from 9:42 to 11:52 is one of the most beautiful things I've ever listened to, in my life. Finally, "To Bid You Farewell". Just too beautiful. *2)* _My Arms, Your Hearse_ (1998): my favorite concept album released by Opeth and my favorite concept album overall. A story about a ghost and his love, in brutally and well written lyrics. *SO BEAUTIFUL* and a piece of fine art, with allusions to the four seasons! How great that can be? "Prologue" is a mysterious instrumental track. That raining intro is immersive to the oncoming story of the album. A nice catch. The ghost is out. "April Ethereal": love this track, a reference to spring. The riff from 3:41 to 4:41 is gorgeous. The ghost is seeking for his love. "When": has a great intro and I especially love the interlude from 6:08 to 7:40. The ghost is getting desperate to find his love, seeking for her in her house. "Madrigal": a mysterious interlude to the album. It's a nice instrumental track and a remarkable one, mainly for it's intrinsic lyrics: "Our abode 'mongst the stars is waiting". The ghost is getting even more desperate. "The Amen Corner": another one of my most favorite Opeth tracks. A reference to summer. How come the fans don't talk much about this brilliant song!? How unfair. "The Amen Corner" is a high point in _MAYH's_ story: it has a mighty, remarkable intro, *outstanding* lyrics (oh, Gosh, how the lyrics in this one get me): "Until now we shared the same aura, my ashes within your hands". Wow! Breathless. The interlude from 3:13 to 5:32 is a requiem-like piece of music. I feel for the ghost, in this one. The section from 6:35 till the end is one of the most remarkable sections in Opeth's history, to me. I LOVE "THE AMEN CORNER" SO MUCH. "Demon of the Fall": a _magnum opus_ song. Another favorite of mine. This and "The Amen Corner" share the climax of the album story. As the name states, it's the reference to the "fall" season. What can I say? A pure majestic music. An amazing indeed song: great and powerful intro, gorgeous lyrics and great progression. I bang my head to this one. I especially like very much the interlude that goes from 3:094:26 (with the intense bridge that goes from 3:39 to 3:55). Not to mention the lyrics at 4:56 and the outro: "that day came to an end and she had lost in me her credence". An explosion of emotions. The ghost finally faced his love. "Credence": a sad, pretty sad song. The ghost is desolated. This is also the very first Opeth song I've fully learned to sing. I get bad for the ghost: he realized it was effortless to get back to his love. "Karma": a fantastic and powerful song. It has another requiem for the ghost: the section from 2:54 is the realization of the emptiness in the ghost realm and the climax begins at 3:41: POOR GHOST... "Epilogue": winter has come. A sad song and the ghost finally rests. Wow! _MAYH_ is one of my beloved things. Great and breathless album. My favorite tracks, in from it, are: "The Amen Corner", "Demon of the Fall" and "April Ethereal". *3)* _Blackwater Park_ (2001): a very great release. I can't get enough of this one. _BWP_ is the epitome of a great Death Metal and Progressive Metal work. It deserves much recognition and I, particularly, disagree with you, when you stated that it is "overrated". Actually, it's well received and reconized: a credit that is given where it's due. The entire _BWP_ album is fantastic and very refined. Opeth proved to be absolutely complete and at another level. My favorite tracks from that album are: "The Funeral Portrait": has a very headbanging rhythm and an outstanding outro that always reminds me of a sunset. I must have listened to it hundreds of time; "The Leper Affinity": wow! Just wow! What a great intro song highlighting the sections from 3:14 to 4:02; the interlude from 4:03 to 6:07 and the spectacular outro, from 7:51 to 8:47; and "Bleak": the duo with Steven Wilson and Mark Akerfeld defines it all. Honorable mentions, composing a top five Opeth albums list of mine comprehends _Orchid_ (1995) and _Still Life_ (1999).
1. Morningrise 2. Black water park 3. Still life 4. My arms your hearse 5. Deliverance 6. Ghost reveries 7. Orchid 8. Damnation 9. Watershed 10. The rest I can’t decide on them but I still enjoy the newer stuff. I love morningrise too it’s so beautiful and black rose immortal is the best song ever!, ghost reveries definitely has the best songwriting by them as well. Top 7 are 10s and the rest are 9 and 8s!
I started to listen to Opeth quite recently and fell in love with the music! This is my top-5 at the moment. 1. In Cauda Venenum (2019) 2. Heritage (2011) 3. Pale Communion (2014) 4. Deliverance (2002) 5. Damnation (2003) As you can guess I am a progressive rock fan with favourites like King Crimson, Van der Graaf Generator, Anekdoten, Univers Zero, and Jethro Tull.
One of my favorite bands of all time. Opeth Re-Ranking I like Most of these albums except for last place: 13 Sorceress 12 Morningrise (Night and the Silent Water, Black Rose Immortal are amazing, the rest I can take or leave) 11 Heritage (This album is growing on me, Devils Orchard, Folklore, Repenthe, Marrow of the Earth, Haxprocess are Great songs) 10 Deliverance 9 Damnation 8 Pale Communion (Moon Above, Sun Below is one of their greatest Songs) 7 Ghost Reveries 6 ICV 5 My Arms Your Hearse 4 Orchid (This album has grown on me the most, I LOVE the Black Metal/Blackened Death feel to this record. It’s like Dissection mixed with Prog) 3 Watershed 2 Still Life (Maybe my favorite album cover of all time) 1 Blackwater Park (One of my top 5 Favorite albums ever made)
Just found this channel like a week ago but I love both the way you present your rankings and the rankings themselves. Opeth has been my favourite band ever since I was a teenager, took the nr 1 position from In Flames. My fav is probably Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries, with Ghost Reveries my most listened one for sure. Deliverance and Damnation got a lot of play time too, and I loved Watershed when it came out. Didn't get too deep into their older stuff, but that's gonna change now, thank you for this video!
1. Watershed 2. Deliverance 3. Blackwater Park 4. My arms your hearse 5. Morningrise 6. Still Life 7. Damnation 8. Ghost Reveries 9. Orchid 10. Pale Communion 11. In Cauda venenum 12. Heritage 13. Sorceress
Totally agree, still life is such an amazing album, definitely their best. I remember in an interview Mikael said that it was supposed to be their breakthrough but nobody bought it at the time so they almost quit. But luckily they released Blackwater park and the rest is history!
I am a 1 year old Opeth fan and they become my all time favourite in such a short time. This is my list (It can change in the future as I listen more): 1 - My Arms, Your Hearse / Still Life 2 - Orchid / Morningrise 3 - Blackwater Park / Ghost Reveries / Watershed (I don't know all of the songs on GR and Watershed yet, but I'll listen) 4 - Damnation 5 - Sorceress (This also has a couple of songs that I haven't listened yet) 6 - Heritage 7 - Pale Communion / In Cauda Venenum / Deliverance (I know some songs on these albums but I haven't listened them properly. But I will)
1. My Arms Your Hearse TIED with Still Life 3.Ghost Reveries 4.Deliverance 5.Blackwater Park 6.Morningrise 7.Orchid 8.Damnation 9.Watershed 10.Pale Comunion 11.Sorceress 12. In Cauda Venenum 13. Heritage
I'm new to your channel and really like the videos I have seen so far. Your energy taking about your favorites make me want to listen to those albums right now, lol. Keep up the good work. I basically love every album from Watershed and older but haven't given the newer albums a fair shot. I should change that.
I will deliver the top 5,if only because it's hard to compare Opeth pre-Watershed and after Watershed. They are both amazing, but so different that I haven't decided on it yet. 1.Ghost Reveries (a masterpiece of epic proportions. For me it has the best blend of melody and heaviness Opeth ever delivered, the Deliverance-Damnation experiment paid off in that regard. I love, how Mikael's growls are used more for accent moments,it gives them more weight like on Grand Conjuration.) 2.Still Life (I can see,why many people call it the best one, it's very close to being that for me. It has a lot of melodies that will stuck in your head forever like that opening riff of The Moor with accent of acoustic guitar or the opening of Godhead's Lament. It's maybe less heavy as some of their other albums, but it's not a big concern for me) 3.Blackwater Park (For me it's a bit overhyped. Don't get me wrong, still an incredible album, but after Still Life it sounds like a step backwards to me. Credit, where it's due,the atmosphere on this album is just insane. Every riff just oozes with this melancholic darkness.) 4.Watershed (The last ride for old Opeth, and it's a great one! It's like a perfect bridge between the Ghost Reveries and Heritage in a sense, having more pianos and clean guitars than ever before, but still having enough power and urgency to keep you listening for all its runtime.) 5.Orchid (Yeah, it's raw as hell. Yeah, the songs are underdeveloped in places. But come one, this album is still awesome! I love it for its energy and "throw it all together at once" approach. There are tons of riffs on this album and all of them are killer. It's a debut album with all its flaws, but the potential is evident from the first riff.)
Ah been waiting for this... I was addicted to that song ranking for Opeth for weeks back in the day! My number 1 band this year! Great video and didnt even watched the whole thing! Forgot the list here it goes: 13 - Heritage 7.9/10 12- Pale communion 8/10 11 - Sorceress 8.3/10 10- In cauda 8.5 9- Damnation 9.3 8 - Orchid 9.5 7 - Normanrise 9.6 6 - My arms 9.7 5- Ghost 9.8 4- Water 9.9 3- Blackwater Park 10 2- Deliverance 1- Still Life This last 3 on my top 10 of all time

Top man for putting Deliverance ahead of Blackwater Park. It is a bit of a love letter to Morbid Angel, which is fine because I’m a huge Morbid Angel fan. Deliverance is definitely the standout track though.
Very cool list :D I have a few Opeth Albums in my collection too. My favorite at the moment is My Arms, Your Hearse. Mikaels Growl in the beginning of When is even scarier than the jumpscare in Ghost of Perdition: Awesome! Also: DEMON! DEMON OF THE FAAAALL! XD PS: Greetings from Germany :) Rock on!
I love your passion !.. 🖤🎵🔥👍🏼and I agree totally, my favorite record too is Still Life and face of Melinda my favorite song 🎵 from it. Drapery falls my favorite song generally
My guitars name is "melinda" because of these guys. i used to call my highschool crush as melinda as well back in the day. I know its kinda stupid but things happen. I guess it would be more accurate if i called her harlequinn.
My ranking: 1. Ghost reveries 2. Still life 3. Blackwater park 4. Watershed 5. Deliverance 6. My arms your hearse 7. Pale communion 8. Damnation 9. In cauda venenum 10. Morningrise 11. Heritage 12. Sorceress 13. Orchid
Opeth is one of my favorite bands, and the band that actually got me into heavier extreme metal. I do prefer their death metal stuff. Some of the prog rock stuff feels kind of bland, but some of it is amazing. And I really don't like black metal, so even though I love Opeth, I don't really like the first two albums tbh. 13. Sorceress 12. Morningrise 11. Heritage 10. Orchid 9. My Arms Your Hearse 8. Pale Communion 7. Watershed 6. In Cauda Venenum 5. Deliverance 4. Damnation 3. Ghost Reveries 2. Still Life 1. Blackwater Park
1. still life 2. blackwater park 3. my arms, your hearse 4. ghost reveries 5. morningrise 6. deliverance 7. orchid 8. watershed 9. damnation 10. in cauda venenum 11. Pale communion 12. heritage 13. sorceress
I do think Blackwater Park is better than deliverance, but I’m glad you liked Morningrise so much. I find it to be their most underrated and best release.
Funny, my personal list from worst to best overlaps the chronological order of the albums, Mikeal craft in songwriting is just getting better and better regardless of the style. I agree that the last album requires time but eventually his beauty hits you, The Garroter is sooo good! Kind of disagree about the audio quality of Sorceress, yes they left the album un-mastered, it lacks a bit of punch but you just need to put the volume a little higher and you get an amazing listening experience, every track in that album sounds amazing, a whole other league from the earlier stuff. Still Life, Blackwater Park, Deliverance and Damnation and Ghost Reveries hold a unique Opeth sound, there's a very special atmosphere in those albums that is present only in little hints over later records.
Swap BWP and Morningrise and I agree. Your points about the similarity of BWP and SL make sense. SL is better. What probably happened us SL stirred the pot enough that when the next album came out all it had to do was be similar and it would explode in popularity. I think this a fair amount with bands. Do a video on that?
Personally I’m all about the Martin Lopez & Peter Lindgren era of Opeth anything without them two is a step down in quality 1. Still Life 2. My arms, your hearse 3. Blackwater park 4. Deliverance 5. Ghosts reveries 6. Damnation 7. Morning Rise 8. Orchid 9. Watershed 10. Heritage 11. Sorceress 12. Pale communion 13. In cauda venenum
My arms your hearse Still Life Blackwater Park Deliverance Ghost Reveries Morningrise Orchid Watershed Damnation Pale Communion Sorceress In cauda venenum Heritage
1. Blackwater Park 2. Still Life 3. Deliverance 4. My Arms, Your Hearse 5. Ghost Reveries 6. Watershed 7. Damnation 8. Morningrise 9. Sorceress 10. Pale Communion 11. Orchid 12. In Cauda Venenum 13. Heritage (I love every album and wouldn't put even the bottom ones below a B tier or 8/10)
Nice ranking. I'm actually not too familiar with Opeth other than Blackwater Park. They are a band I would like to look into though. You're getting close to 4K man!
You might like still life if you enjoy blackwater. Then try pale communion or one of the newer albums as you like prog rock so I think you’d enjoy them too
Still Life, Blackwater Park and Ghost Reveries are a trilogy in a sense. They are pretty similar in style, but have different unique atmospheres and ideas to them. Watershed is like the big three above, but more prog. Morningrise is a proggy death metal/black metal album. Orhid is Morningrise but not as proggy and not as good. My Arms Your Hearse is a bridge between Morningrise and Still Life. A very good bridge. Deliverance is arguably their heaviest and can be compared to Blackwater Park in many regards. Others are clean albums, most amazing. Some like Pale Communion are love letters to classic prog rock like King Crimson, but some are pretty unique, especially Damnation. Damnation is not even that proggy, but just incredibly beautiful, melacholic and groovy at times.
My Top 3 are... 1. Orchid 2. Morningrise 3. Watershed The debut and Morningrise rather remind me of older Katatonia which I also love, guess that's why these are my favourites. I'm not that much into prog but still, I can recognize the musicality as well as originality of their later work. I'm just more into the rawer approach of the old albums. Watershed, though, was my first contact to Opeth and probably the Opeth album I listened to the most.
I love Opeth! When you said that they're also you're favorite band, I immediately subscribed. Anyways, my ranking: 1. Morningrise (I'm a sucker for epic long tracks that go all over the place) 2. Orchid (best melodies of the entire discography on this album) 3. Still Life (Opeth's mash-up of extreme metal and jazz fusion) 4. Blackwater Park (Some of their best death metal riffs) 5. Deliverance (pretty similar to Blackwater Park) 6. Ghost Reveries (production is too clean, but still some bad-ass riffs) Everything else I don't like.
@@Questformetal There's a pretty big difference between the riffs, melodies, and production between the first two albums and everything that came after. The melodies are a bit simpler on the first two and they tend to be folkier. Not to mention, they borrowed the dual lead guitar approach from melodeath bands on these two albums. The production and riffs have a "blackened" feel to them. The vocals are shriekier on the first two albums. It actually conveys the nickname that used to be given to Opeth "forest metal". It's like black metal but with some beauty and complexity to it. MAYH has more of a death metal feel to the riffs and vocals. Also, MAYH's soundscape is pretty hazy sounding. A lot of the particularities of MAYH's melodies are drowned out. Still Life is a much cleaner production that shows off Opeth's technical side (thus making it my third favorite album).
At this moment my favourite is watershed. Other album albums i really like are pale comunion, Ghost reveries, but I'm listening to the other like Blackwater park, my arms, damnation, sorceress so I could change idea
You should do Drudkh albums ranked. Also, Hate Forest, band associated with Drudkh is releasing a new album on January 25th after 16 years being split-up!
1. Blackwater Park 2. Ghost Reveries 3. Damnation 4. Deliverance 5. Watershed 6. Still Life 7. My Arms, Your Hearse 8. Morningrise 9. Pale Communion 10. In Cauda Venenum 11. Orchid 12. Sorceress 13. Heritage This is the correct ranking
I have Morningrise first and My Arms, Your Hurse third. But other than that they fall in about the same for me. Opeth is legendary.. I’m hoping for a new album from them soon.
Just to stick it to you, I’m gonna make a tier list for opeth S: Blackwater Park 10/10, My Arms Your Hearse 10/10 A+: Still Life 10/10, Ghost Reveries 10/10 A: Deliverance/damnation 9/10, Orchid 9/10 A-: Sorceress 9/10, Watershed 9/10 B: Morningrise 8/10, Pale Communion 8/10 B-: In Cauda Venenum 8/10, Heritage 7/10
At this moment my list is: 13.- Heritage 12.- In Cauda Venenum 11.- Sorceress 10.- Morningrise 9.- My Arms your Hearse 8.- Damnation 7.- Pale Communion 6.- Orchid 5.- Watershed 4.- Still Life 3.- Deliverance 2.- Ghost Reveries 1.- Blackwater Park
13. Heritage 12. Pale Communion 11. Sorceress 10. In Cauda Venenum 9. Orchid 8. Watershed 7. Morningrise 6. Damnation 5. Blackwater Park 4. Deliverance 3. Ghost Reveries 2. Still Life 1. My Arms, Your Hearse
Alright, this list needed a remake. 13 - Pale Communion (Still my least Favorite) 12 - Heritage (Now, the good stuff) 11 - Sorceress 10 - Deliverance 9 - In Cauda Venenum 8 - Damnation 7 - Ghost Reveries 6 - Watershed 5 - My Arms, Your Hearse 4 - Blackwater Park 3 - Morningrise 2 - Orchid 1 - Still Life Lots of changes.
Am I the only one who says Heritage is my favorite album? And I am someone who likes the heavy side of Opeth too. Heritage first and second place is Ghost Reveries I think.
13. Orchid 12. Morningrise 11. My Arms, Your Hearse 10. Heritage 9. In Cauda Venenum 8. Sorceress 7. Pale Communion 6. Watershed 5. Deliverance 4. Damnation 3. Blackwater Park 2. Still Life 1. Ghost Reveries Catch me on a different day, I'll rearrange the top 3.
im newer to opeth. so i havent heard every album, but my list so far 1-Watershed 2-Ghost Reveries 3-Damnation 4-Deliverance 5-In Cauda Venenum 6-Blackwater Park 7-Pale Communion I’ve heard Still Life, but not enough times to have an opinion other than it being a good album. everything else i havent heard all the way through.
best opeth album is a shared top spot for still life and blackwater park. Least favourite are orchid. Orchid and morningrise. They still are 9/10 tho, and all other opeth albums are 10/10 easily btw, best ghost reveries song is the baying of the hounds easily. Followed by harlequin forest. Ghost of perdition is far from their best song, but still 10/10
My ranking: 13) Sorceress 12) Heritage 11) Orchid 10) Watershed 9) Deliverance 8) In Cauda Venenum 7) Pale Communion 6) Morningrise 5) My Arms, Your Hearse 4) Damnation 3) Ghost Reveries 2) Blackwater Park 1) Still Life And BTW, there's no "Bad" or even "Mediocre" Opeth album, i only consider Sorceress to be Average, which is more that i can say for the bottom half of other bands. The rest ranks from Good to Excelent. Now that you remade this and Katatonia, it's time for Edge Of Sanity. Praise Dan Swanö!
For everyone missing metal Opeth, here's my favorite surrogates: Ikuinen Kaamos (listen to "Indoctrination of the lost"), Barren Earth ("Oriental Pyre"), Obsidian Tide ("Seven"), Gwynbleidd ("Nostalgia"), Iapetus ("My father, my god"). I have been looking for music to fill the gap Opeth left after Watershed for many years now. That's the best I have to offer.
Favorite band and turns out I 100% agree with this list because every album is amazing but yeah their prog stuff isn’t their best but I still listen to those ones so much wow
Ghost Reveries is probably always going to be my favourite album of any artists. I'd be happy to be wrong, but how do you you improve on absolute perfection? As any Opeth fan will probably say, it's really hard to pick a favourite song, but if I had to choose, it'd probably be Harlequin Forest. It has everything that made that era of Opeth so incredible. The perfect balance of clean and heavy bits and the outro gives even Deliverance a run for its money. Also, did you really forget about Damnation?
1. MAYH 2. Blackwater Park 3. Pale Communion 4. Still Life 5. Watershed 6. Ghost Reveries 7. Orchid 8. Delivarence 9. Sorcerres 10. Damnation 11. Morningrise 12. ICV 13. Heritage I like all of them, but the last 2 just aren't doing it for me like the rest of them.
Bad tier: 13. Orchid 12. Morningrise (I don't care what anyone says. I'm not a fan of their first two albums. I don't mind neither the sound nor the production. My main problem is the songwriting. These albums are "copy-paste" albums for me. They just threw stuff together and didn't lay any focus on structure, flow or consistensy. With the exception of the beautiful A Bid To Farewell, I never listen to anything from Orchid or Morningrise). OK tier: 11. Heritage 10. My Arms, Your Hearse Good tier: 9. Watershed Great tier: 8. Sorceress 7. Pale Communion 6. In Cauda Venenum Amazing tier: 5. Deliverance 4. Damnation God tier: 3. Ghost Reveries 2. Blackwater Park 1. Still Life
Not really. it's their 2nd most acclaimed album lol nobody's gonna be mad at him for that. Morningrise at #2 on the other hand.... Yeah I agree with him about Morningrise, though 😅
my rankings would be. 1. Still Life 2. Blackwater Park 3. Ghost Reveries 4. Damnation 5. In Cauda Venenum 6. Deliverance 7. Pale Communion 8. My Arms, Your Hearse 9. Morningrise 10. Watershed 11. Sorceress 12. Orchid 13. Heritage
Opeth is the greatest band to ever grace this earth.
Yep.....and Cardiacs!
@@fcamiola Yeah man, thanks for that. Been into Dillinger Escape Plan, The Hirsch Effekt and Twelve Foot Ninja a lot this year so they look right up my alley too.
@@hackandslash873 yes twelve foot ninja was one of the first bands that I got into and they're still one of my favorites!!
Great band but Slayer is better (if you couldn't tell, this is a joke)
hot take they have a perfect discography
Top 3 for me
1.Ghost reveries
2.Blackwater park
3.Still life
Mine is
Ghost reveries
Blackwater park
My arms, your hearse
Almost the same
1.Still life

Pretty based man
Ah, so you just prefer their old stuff.
Morningrise is my number One .. and thats mayby i heard it first and to bid You farewell is my favourite opeth song 🤗
A gem of an album
The riffs rip.

I agree with you on your least favorite albums released by Opeth and I do agree with you, regarding Opeth being a favorite band. It's one of my favorite groups, as well.
However, I have a different ranking, considering their top three releases. This is my top three:
*1)* _Morningrise_ (1996): a *very* beautiful and complex album, with remarkable basslines, mainly what we listen to.
I especially like very much the interlude that goes from 3:09 4:26 (with the intense bridge that goes from 3:39 to 3:55).
My favorite tracks from that album are:
"The Funeral Portrait": has a very headbanging rhythm and an outstanding outro that always reminds me of a sunset. I must have listened to it hundreds of time;
"The Leper Affinity": wow! Just wow! What a great intro song highlighting the sections from 3:14 to 4:02; the interlude from 4:03 to 6:07 and the spectacular outro, from 7:51 to 8:47; and
"Bleak": the duo with Steven Wilson and Mark Akerfeld defines it all.
Honorable mentions, composing a top five Opeth albums list of mine comprehends _Orchid_ (1995) and _Still Life_ (1999).
Great post. Opeth is life!

Black Water Park is one of my favorite albums of all time. I love Opeth, Thank you 🙏 for the list🤘🤘
This is my list (It can change in the future as I listen more):
1 - My Arms, Your Hearse / Still Life
2 - Orchid / Morningrise
3 - Blackwater Park / Ghost Reveries / Watershed (I don't know all of the songs on GR and Watershed yet, but I'll listen)
4 - Damnation
5 - Sorceress (This also has a couple of songs that I haven't listened yet)
6 - Heritage
7 - Pale Communion / In Cauda Venenum / Deliverance (I know some songs on these albums but I haven't listened them properly. But I will)

I love, how Mikael's growls are used more for accent moments,it gives them more weight like on Grand Conjuration.)
2.Still Life (I can see,why many people call it the best one, it's very close to being that for me. It has a lot of melodies that will stuck in your head forever like that opening riff of The Moor with accent of acoustic guitar or the opening of Godhead's Lament. It's maybe less heavy as some of their other albums, but it's not a big concern for me)
3.Blackwater Park (For me it's a bit overhyped. Don't get me wrong, still an incredible album, but after Still Life it sounds like a step backwards to me. Credit, where it's due,the atmosphere on this album is just insane. Every riff just oozes with this melancholic darkness.)
4.Watershed (The last ride for old Opeth, and it's a great one! It's like a perfect bridge between the Ghost Reveries and Heritage in a sense, having more pianos and clean guitars than ever before, but still having enough power and urgency to keep you listening for all its runtime.)
5.Orchid (Yeah, it's raw as hell.

Update?
Top man for putting Deliverance ahead of Blackwater Park. It is a bit of a love letter to Morbid Angel, which is fine because I’m a huge Morbid Angel fan. Deliverance is definitely the standout track though.
Very cool list :D
I have a few Opeth Albums in my collection too. My favorite at the moment is My Arms, Your Hearse. Mikaels Growl in the beginning of When is even scarier than the jumpscare in Ghost of Perdition: Awesome!
Also: DEMON! DEMON OF THE FAAAALL! XD
PS: Greetings from Germany :) Rock on!
Guessing it didn't end well then 😂
@@Questformetal Ofcourse sad prog boy!

Not to brag but I've seen them live 6 times. Best shows ever. Just picked up the 2010 audiophile vinyl of Blackwater Park today.

A: Orchid, Still Life, Ghost Reveries
B: MAYH, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Damnation
C: Watershed, Pale Communion, In Cauda Venenum
D: Heritage, Sorceress
Been waiting on this one
In Cauda Venenum is such a beauty!!!
My favorite Opeth album is "Blackwater Park" followed by "Still Life". "Heritage" is definitely my favorite of the new era.
karma...that's one of my top10 opeth songs for me. Such an underrated song.
Personally I’m all about the Martin Lopez & Peter Lindgren era of Opeth anything without them two is a step down in quality

(I love every album and wouldn't put even the bottom ones below a B tier or 8/10)
Nice ranking.
My ranking:
1. Blackwater Park (2001)
2. Still Life (1999)
3. Ghost Reveries (2005)
4. Deliverance (2002)
5. My Arms, Your Hearse (1998)
6. Damnation (2003)
7. Orchid (1995)
8. Watershed (2008)
9. In Cauda Venenum (2019)
10. Pale Communion (2014)
11. Heritage (2011)
12. Sorceress (2016)
13. Morningrise (1996)
My Top 3 are...
1. Orchid
2. Morningrise
3. Watershed
The debut and Morningrise rather remind me of older Katatonia which I also love, guess that's why these are my favourites. I'm not that much into prog but still, I can recognize the musicality as well as originality of their later work. I'm just more into the rawer approach of the old albums. Watershed, though, was my first contact to Opeth and probably the Opeth album I listened to the most.
Have you noticed how many times you've said in this video "this is the best Opeth song ever"?
Dann I love Opeth.
I love Opeth! When you said that they're also you're favorite band, I immediately subscribed. Anyways, my ranking:
1. Morningrise (I'm a sucker for epic long tracks that go all over the place)
2. Orchid (best melodies of the entire discography on this album)
3. Still Life (Opeth's mash-up of extreme metal and jazz fusion)
4. Blackwater Park (Some of their best death metal riffs)
5. Deliverance (pretty similar to Blackwater Park)
6. Ghost Reveries (production is too clean, but still some bad-ass riffs)
Everything else I don't like.
Very surprised you like the early stuff but not my arms your hearse
1-Blackwater Park
2-Still Life

At this moment my favourite is watershed. Other album albums i really like are pale comunion, Ghost reveries, but I'm listening to the other like Blackwater park, my arms, damnation, sorceress so I could change idea
You should do Drudkh albums ranked. Also, Hate Forest, band associated with Drudkh is releasing a new album on January 25th after 16 years being split-up!

Swap blackwater with still life and it can pass ..bleak is their best song yeah, but the second half of blackwater has riffs going for too long
Your opinion is not correct. Quit being a pretentious douche
I bet Still Life is number 13 on the list.
Your ranking is correct nice taste
My Top 3 Albums:
1. Damnation🖤

3. Ghost Reveries
QfM: “Tier Lists are cheating”
also QfM: “All but 2 albums are 10/10.”
😂 Good list but I stand by my Tier List format.
You should do a Pestilence ranking. Also great video.
1. Ghost Reveries, 2. Blackwater Park, 3. Beats me! I can't pick one... maybe ICV or PC.
I have Morningrise first and My Arms, Your Hurse third. But other than that they fall in about the same for me. Opeth is legendary.. I’m hoping for a new album from them soon.

2-Ghost Reveries
3-Damnation
4-Deliverance
5-In Cauda Venenum
6-Blackwater Park
7-Pale Communion
I’ve heard Still Life, but not enough times to have an opinion other than it being a good album. everything else i havent heard all the way through.
best opeth album is a shared top spot for still life and blackwater park. Least favourite are orchid. Orchid and morningrise. They still are 9/10 tho, and all other opeth albums are 10/10 easily
btw, best ghost reveries song is the baying of the hounds easily. Followed by harlequin forest. Ghost of perdition is far from their best song, but still 10/10
My Favourite Albums are
My Arms Your Hearse, Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Sorceress, In Cauda Venenum.
My ranking:
13) Sorceress
12) Heritage
11) Orchid
10) Watershed
9) Deliverance
8) In Cauda Venenum
7) Pale Communion
6) Morningrise
5) My Arms, Your Hearse
4) Damnation
3) Ghost Reveries
2) Blackwater Park
1) Still Life
And BTW, there's no "Bad" or even "Mediocre" Opeth album, i only consider Sorceress to be Average, which is more that i can say for the bottom half of other bands.

Morningrise and ICV for me 🥺👍🏻💗
Rank the Ghost albums. I don't care if they are metal or not. Just do it and I'll be a happy man
I will once they release their next album as only 4 albums would be a short video
Favorite band and turns out I 100% agree with this list because every album is amazing but yeah their prog stuff isn’t their best but I still listen to those ones so much wow
11:07 nice shirt switch
Ghost Reveries is probably always going to be my favourite album of any artists. I'd be happy to be wrong, but how do you you improve on absolute perfection? As any Opeth fan will probably say, it's really hard to pick a favourite song, but if I had to choose, it'd probably be Harlequin Forest. It has everything that made that era of Opeth so incredible. The perfect balance of clean and heavy bits and the outro gives even Deliverance a run for its money. Also, did you really forget about Damnation?
My top 3
1. Blackwater Park
2. Still Life
3. Ghost Reveries
Pale Communion, then Still Life, and Ghost Reveries.
I love your channel, but Blackwater Park that low is a crime😂. Cheers though
And great channel :)
The albums are all great, and have the best album covers, and the Opeth logo.
heyyyyy still life
1. MAYH
2. Blackwater Park
3. Pale Communion
4. Still Life
5. Watershed
6. Ghost Reveries
7. Orchid
8. Delivarence

I like all of them, but the last 2 just aren't doing it for me like the rest of them.
show us your collection you promised to make a video about it
Bad tier:
13. Orchid
12. Morningrise
(I don't care what anyone says.
OK tier:
11. Heritage
10. My Arms, Your Hearse
Good tier:
9. Watershed
Great tier:
8. Sorceress
7. Pale Communion
6. In Cauda Venenum
Amazing tier:
5. Deliverance
4. Damnation
God tier:
3. Ghost Reveries
2. Blackwater Park
1. Still Life
Putting Ghost Reveries above Blackwater is a gutsy move amigo…
Not really. it's their 2nd most acclaimed album lol nobody's gonna be mad at him for that. Morningrise at #2 on the other hand.... Yeah
I agree with him about Morningrise, though 😅
my rankings would be.

2. Blackwater Park
3. Ghost Reveries
4. Damnation
5. In Cauda Venenum
6. Deliverance
7. Pale Communion
8. My Arms, Your Hearse
