- If you became a metalhead at any time in the last 25 years, then chances are you had a Slipknot phase. From their super heavy first two albums to the more experimental direction of their recent material, the Iowa NIne have cranked out dozens of kick-ass songs and played a huge part in shaping the sound and culture of 21st century metal. We turned to bigwig metal and rock musicians, many of whom grew up on Slipknot- members of Spiritbox, Bring Me the Horizon, In Flames, We Came As Romans and more - to pick their single favorite songs in all of the 'Knot's catalog. See their picks above and let us know yours in the comments below!

Makes sense that Vended had some of the most valid picks lmao
Fr. No Life, Diluted like of course they know the deep cuts. Also No Life with the opening "My freedom is best, whole country's on house arrest..."
@@Creeping_Justice I listened to No Life like 5 times yesterday then diluted, then put on some other band, swear to God. Thanks for your comment. It's pretty much confirmation that I have a sweet ass taste in music. 💪😎
My fucking dude Peter Smith with the A1 statement
All the people saying Duality or Psychosocial should listen to Get This.
Vended is Slipknot son band members
Solway Firth is extremely underrated IMO. Easily one of the most intense songs they’ve put out in the later half of their career.
I love you so much
Solway Firth for me is one of the very best metal songs of the past decade and maybe ever.
I love Solway Firth. I lore We Are Not Your Kind in general.
@@thegoatfromiowa8948 agreed. It’s really damn good lol.
Most Lirical song I have been related in the last years my guy, love it too
Skin Ticket is still some of the heaviest shit I’ve ever heard
Agreed. Especially the live version.
Skin Ticket is out of control. That breakdown at the end.
paired with new abortion. doesn't get any better.
That is such an underrated slipknot song
My Plague. Never fails to give me goosebumps
that riff is disgusting... it's like the sonic personification of a giant slimy slug slowly crawling over your entire body like waves in the beach
I have concluded that the blister exists is underrated as fuck (my plague is fuckin cool too)
Same here
First song i ever heard of Slipknot, hooked for life. Still my personal favorite till this day
"your impossible ego fuck is like a megalomaniacal tab on my tongue" the lyrics in that song are so incredible
Shawn’s son picking “No Life” when that is reportedly the song where Shawn decided Corey was officially in the band… so full circle it’s insane
But can’t pronounce Gematria
No. The song that got Corey the job was Me Inside, it’s not “reportedly” either, it’s known for sure
@@ian6fx995 you're right. i'm trash lol thank you!
Psychosocial is literally what got me into them when I was in middle school. I replayed the music video constantly. It’s their core for me.
Years back i'd always play it at the biker bar i would drink at. Always pissed everyone off... lol
Yes and nameless
such a mid song
For me the two best songs by far are Disasterpiece and Solway Firth
Solway firth is so fucking good man
Disasterpiece and The heretic Anthem is GOAT
@@camzilla_does_music834 their best song
Disasterpiece for sure
@@camzilla_does_music834 100% agree. Top 3 for me
Left Behind was the first one I heard, and one of the songs that got me into metal, but Snuff is so hauntingly beautiful
Same bro, left behind got me into metal and vocals. I wanted to do what corey taylor was doing so bad lol they opened the doors for me and literally changed my life
Purity is my all-time favorite to this day. Sucks it couldn't be on the debut originally.
It is on the original issue of the debut, but then had to be taken off for the reissue.
I had it on the OG press. Was lucky to have it and wish I still had it.
This is my pick as well!!! Def a great beautiful song with a dark story!!
Yup
Gotta agree with this one - Their Self Titled is my favorite album from them and Purity is the one song that I will not skip no matter what im in the mood for.
Wait and Bleed to me is the perfect Slipknot song. It's a song where everyone in the band gets to shine, especially Corey and Joey.
At least Simon mentioned Gematria 🔥 such a underrated song, still waiting for them to play it live!!!
Absolutely agree, song is not talked about enough
That song is sick
@@iceyhot8796 fr. I don't know why it's so unknown. It's one of if not slipknot best songs ever made
Gematria sic eyeless Eeyore is top notch
@@iceyhot8796 Ikr! We all know Iowa and Self Titled are masterpiece but man AHIG is another level imo. I rather listen to most of the AHIG songs live than their popular songs, i mean I love every album but i think they should change their liveset, they should play their underrated songs more often!
I love how diverse the picks are and a lot of the favourite songs arent even singles. I think there were a lot of slipknot fans in front of the camera
Look at them, most of them are mid-twenties. Slipknot was probably a gateway metal band for a lot of them!
The blister exists is the best showcase of the whole band and kinda captures what they have as a whole imo
THANK YOU. Scrolled way too far for this answer.
Truly underrated. Great 1 from vol 3
We all love the Joey's drum style on that song
My favorite has been and always will be "Gently", something so comforting yet so possibly destructive as the song builds, feels so personal
my man
Especially the live version on disasterpiece dvd. It’s like being in a dream.
@Donald Nowak I agree!! When I was in Iraq I had that DVD, it kept me alive and motivated. Whole DVD is amazing though
The first version is also amazing
@@leeo3 yes it absolutely is!
Surprised to hear someone mention Diluted. I love that song! I have yet to find any videos of them playing it live. A few others that weren’t mentioned that i love: Snuff, Skin Ticket, Circle, Vermillion 2, Purity, Eyeore and Prosthetics.
yeah they havent played it live yet unfortunately, probably wont ever do it live cuz i think its really personal to corey
@@big_joe_8478which is kinda bullshit, because Metabolic is about the exact same topic and they’ve played it many times
Purity is amazing and so underrated
Skin Ticket and Purity are easily two of their best tracks 🤘🏻
Diluted is soooo good
For me it’s Purity. I just love this song start to finish.
Especially with Tattered&Torn and Frail Limb Nursery
Eyeless has always been my favorite, absolute banger
Eyeless definitely my favorite as well
Purity and The Shape.
🖤🖤🖤
Iowa to me is the most emotional and dark album in metal history period. There is so much pain that it gives me goosebumps and it makes me cry
And I will die on that fucking hill to this day and never change that opinion
I I had to pick one per album:
Surfacing (or purity)
Disasterpiece (or people = sh*t)
Before I Forget (or vermillion pt2)
Psychosocial (or gematria)
The Negative One (or the devil in i)
Unsainted (or solway firth)
Hive Mind (or h377)
It's really hard to pick just one cuz there's so many good songs.
Disasterpiece is the song for me. Pure adrenaline and the lyrics are brutal 🔥🔥
For me it's "Me Inside". Short and sweet, and it shows every aspect of what Slipknot really is.
whats short and sweet is EEYORE
Eyeless.
Man, this is so hard to choose. Every album has at least one absolute banger. Most of them have like 5 or 6, with a couple of other really good ones. I personally really like Eeyore and People=Shit myself. I always love it when Slipknot is at their most belligerent, confrontational, and death metal. But then you have the the thrash pop of Psycosocial, which is just so catchy. And then there's the brooding stomp grooves of The Devil in I. And you can't forget the death funk stylings of Do Nothing/Bitch Slap (I LOVE the Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat stuff. Freaking death metal Faith No More!). The speed rapping on songs like Spit it Out and Liberate in immaculate. And Snuff is one of the most heartbreaking songs ever written
Gematria has to be one of Slipknot's underrated song in the whole discography or maybe one of the underrated metal song of all time.
Disasterpiece. Hands down. The Disasterpiece dvd has the drum cam footage and i remember it blew me away the first time i saw it. Still does. Joey in his prime was a machine. A true masterclass in metal drumming.
Sic will always be super brutal to me and that first album was a game changer for me, but I would say Devil in I is one of my all time favorites Slipknot song. The Video is soooo brutal🤘🤘
I remember when the first album dropped when I was in high school.. only being exposed to the likes of Korn, Metallica, etc it was the craziest album ever. I'd say (sic) because I just never heard anything that heavy before so it stays as my favorite to this day. And honestly it took a few listens to really get it because my musical vocabulary just wasn't up to par yet. Such a gateway drug of a band to heavier genres too!
Spit it Out is probably my Pick, close others are Eyeless, Dying Song, Heretic Anthem, People = Sh!t, Unsainted, and Solway Firth. I think Spit it out shows each position in the band really well. Honestly Dying Song and Slipknot are probably the two best representations of the newer and Older works of Slipnkt
I was agreeing with everyone, couldn't figure out which one I was thinking of until I heard someone said "surfacing". When I heard them on the live album with Corey screaming "here's your new national f*ING anthem, I went nuts. Then I heard it live during the encore and lost my shit
Metabolic was it for me. That Iowa album is a masterpiece start to finish.
same
Thank you.
Thank you.
The most based of them all
I love the energy of All Out Life, I think its my favorite slipknot song
Wait and Bleed was the very first song I've ever heard. I remember going through my older brothers unmarked CD collection and the CD had tons of random songs from various artists. I heard Wait and Bleed and immediately became a fan.
left behind, snuff and purity... all right in the feels for me
Purity is top for me!! Good song
Left behind. A man of culture
Left Behind is it for me
YES BROOO ALSO DILUTED
Most diverse list of answers. I think that shows how good their songs really are. Some lists are like two songs.
My pick will be Vermilion. I know it's underated for sure, but man that song hits different to me
This is a fun one because of all the different responses. Such a fun band and one of the most engaging live acts I’ve ever seen. All hail Slipknot🤘🏼🔥
I made a list based on my personal emotional touch:
1. Snuff
2. Wait and Bleed
3. Custer
4. Nero Forte
5. (sic)
6. Spit it Out
7. Psychosocial
8. Eyeless
9. People = Shit
10. The Heretic Anthem
11. Vermilion (both)
12. Til we Die
13. Dead Memories
14. Duality
15. Left behind
16. Unsainted
17. Scissors
Those are in my daily playlist but of course there are many more bangers!
No love for Gematria?Mick and Jim killed that on guitars
@@HellusRaizen I think their most political and brutal song.
no before I forget?
Spit it out has been my favourite or up in there for so long, but recently I love Nero Forte, its that rumbling rhythm and perfect fluidity throughout. Its fun and so easy to listen to.
I'll always remember being in the 4th grade and my big brothers coming back home after being in Texas for 3 years and introducing me to slipknot wait and bleed was the 1st track I ever heard and will forever be my favorite
“The Shape” just hits different, especially the breakdown
For whatever reason, ever since I first heard it, my favorite has been danger-keep away. Just something about it has always enthralled me and I can listen to it for hours on end if I wanted to. Sulfur, everything ends, child of burning time, and solway firth would probably round out my top 5, with the vol.3 and .5 intros not far behind, but like basically all of them said its so hard to choose between them all.
Diluted is far and away my favourite song from S/T, it's everything about the first album dialed in perfectly
I have 3 favourites from them:
- Wait and Bleed
- Pulse of the Maggots
- Gematria (The Killing name)
Gematria ( The Killing Name) is a underrated Slipknot banger !!
It's the nameless, the song people don't talk about and mostly forgotten but it represent the band as a whole.
Man, this is a hard question. Psychosocial is the song that got me into Slipknot and I agree with Courtney: if I were to use one song to showcase Slipknot as a band, it would be that. But at the same time I think (sic) is insane given the time and the relative mainstream-ness of that album; it’s 3 minutes of a mental breakdown that just keeps getting worse. And there are still like 9 other songs that are unskippable during gym sessions.
I’m glad some people are appreciating Custer
Gently is great, and I love the atmosphere of Iowa
Nobody mentioned Snuff or Solway Firth, which are both up there for me
1st song to pop in my head was “Before I Forget”
But they have alot of great songs, half their catalogue could be a good answer to this
I would have to spend a couple hours reviewing their albums & comparing songs to make a real decision not off the top of my head
I will say “If Rain Is What You Want” as my 2nd & more thought out answer
Song gives major vibes man, 1st it’s all somber & then it just explodes in epic fashion
THE ONLY THING DEEPER THAN MY LAST BREATH!
THE ONLY THING DARKER THAN MY LAST DEATH!
IS THE PANIC! THE STATIC!
I’VE COME BACK FROM THE DEAD!!!
"Duality", "killpop" & "left behind" are always fighting for my favorite slipknot song.
I won’t say its their best songs. But Left Behind and Wait and Bleed have the most replays for me probably. Self-titled, and Iowa where my freshman and sophomore years of high school. Good Times
I feel that No Life is a hidden treasure. Such an awesome song. But I’m with those that couldn’t answer the question.
It honestly blows my mind with some the greatest and most underrated songs that were not mentioned cause slipknot is my favorite band ever and these bands had amazing answers but i would have mentioned songs like three nil, don’t get close, scream, and welcome and to think how people don’t talk about vol.3 that much that album to me is so underrated because as a guitar player Jim and mick just came out of nowhere with these insane solos but any song really is the best there isnt anything by them I don’t like 🤟🤟
Scream and 3 nil too. Good picks man.
to be fair, the blister exists, duality and before i forget are on that album, so they might've not mentioned it specifically but it also wasnt let out of the conversation
@@kippz1337 yea I understand that I just wish someone would’ve said it on cam cause I always think that shit in the back of my head but never heard my opinion being agreed with or talked about that much but respected everything they said everyone got different taste in music love the diversity and love slipknot
@@hunterhousewright8711 Yeah I get ya. However, in most cases I don't really appreciate the album argument anyways. Sure, some might contain alot of bangers but usually they don't feel like something you have to play in order to get the full experience. I'd say albums like "The shape of punk to come" would be a great example for an amazing album cause you could hear the entire thing an say it might've been a single track as well.
My favorite is one that always pumps me up to go good in whatever im doing at the time, the negative one. but wait and bleed i feel like represent who they are as a whole great cleans greats screaming, medium to hard riffs, great break down, all around fucking amazing.
I love the not-quite-but-almost Slipknot background music in this video lol, I think my fav now is Spit It Out, but when I first heard them it was Disasterpiece. and Wait & Bleed is objectively a perfect song
neo forte and dead memories are my personal favorites
Also great choices. Reading through these comments is just reinforcing how hard this question is 😂😂
Slipknot has earned so much respect from other metal bands ❤ even their own sons have favorite songs of theirs
Pledge of Allegiance tour 2001 was my first concert ever! Slipknot headlining right after Iowa came out. I was 10 or 11
Vended has the best picks and it shows that they actually know the band well
I really love a lot of Vol. 3. The stretch of songs from Welcome to The Nameless is just banger after banger.
And Before I Forget is just one of those songs that transcends mere ‘goodness’ with what it’s about and you can apply it to your life n shit.
Love all of them. At the moment my favorite is The Burden.
Wargasm knowing some Slipknot deepcuts is sick, I love that same remix Milkie Way is talking about 🙏
As a personal favourite it'll always be The Negative One but to vote as the greatest song of Slipknot for me ofc its Psychosocial...psychosocial got this quality which really brings new fans and listeners for slipknot I'm saying this based on my experience as even me my first ever slipknot song was Psychosocial and gradually slipknot became my No.1 band
The Burden is my all time favorite, pure perfection of the song it has atmosphere it has chuggish riffs, it’s very heavy it’s very melodic, the only nitpick, that this song is B side from deluxe edition, who haven’t listened that song, do yourself a favor and give it a go
I love heavy riffs, I love songs with a groove so I love KILLPOP.
Wait and Bleed was my intro to slipknot. Will always hold a place in my heart
Scissors is quite possibly my all time favorite song, not just by slipknot but in general
Highly underrated songs from Slipkot.
Pulse of the Maggots
Snap from Freddy vs jason
YES, pulse of the maggots is the shit
Honestly, while my favorite Slipknot song is probably Solway Firth right now, I absolutely agree with Courtney. Psychosocial is so catchy and a rather easy way to find out what Slipknot sounds like. It's the song that first got me into the band. It has the heaviness, catchy clean vocals in the chorus and a great harsh vocal performance by Corey.
Slipknot played Wait and Bleed on Conan O’Bryan on Feb. 20th, 2000….. it was my 14th Birthday… been a fan ever since… haha
"As I close my eyes I feel it all slipping away..."
We all got LEFT BEHIND.
Slipknot has a lot of great songs. But Metabolic is always my fav one
The best song? Corey doing the sponge bob theme!
Too heavy for my liking
@@alexandrecorreia5246 lol 😂
YES!!!!😂
For me it’s easy. Saw the 1st album cover at a listening station at a Hot Topic in Reno, NV and just pressed play and my mind was completely blown.
The intro and (sic) is my pick
Meadowood Mall lol!
@@Josef_Favia 💯🙌🏻 That’s hilarious someone knew. You still live there? I moved away that same year in ‘99 to go to college in AZ.
@@DevilzDance81 I still live here but I moved out here in like 2010 but we used to come to Reno alot as kids to get studded belts and band tees at Hot Topic lol!
Eyeless and Everything Ends and Scissors and Gently. Can't decide, damn that's tough
spit it out is the goat
Courtney got me confused so quickly. All that just to say Psycosocial
My personal favs are deep cuts:
Eeyore and Get This
I'm surprised nobody mentioned these. They're top tier af! 🤘🏽💀
I first heard Slipknot my freshman year and it was the Iowa album. It just came out and I bought it for a friend's birthday. SHEER BRUTALITY! Left Behind hooked me in. The rest of the album grabbed ahold and I've never been let go since. Got Numbers shortly after. Wait and Bleed, Sic, Surfacing, Me Inside... ugh my God Me Inside...I, wasn't promised a thing! You keep mocking me! But you will never again! BEFORE YOU KNOW IT AFTER YOUR GONE!!! Ahh the joy 😊 😈
Its just unfair to make us choose slipknot best song,
We are talking about metal grammy winner afterall, its just way too hard to choose.
Probably a hot take... "Snuff" will be in my top 10 favorite songs ever for years to come most likely so I have to say that one.
Vermillion parts 1 and 2 for me are 2 of the best songs I have ever heard period.
Dont know much of them but i met shawn twice in lincoln ne at dirty little rabbits shows. Nice fella. Great band
Purity, New Abortion and The Nameless are the top for me. Each representing a part of Slipknot. Purity prominently features every member tho so I'd say that is their best song.
I know I am cheating but for me it is a tie between Duality and People=Shit. I can't choose one, both these songs are masterpieces.
Because people still = shit
Was so glad to hear Simon say Gematria, I’ve always seen that as their most underrated song
I love the darkness and rawness of Skin Ticket, cant get heavier or darker than that, but favorite I guess it goes to Eyeless
I only ever purchased their debut on release and I remember my favourite being "Tattered and Torn". Not a fan of the band though.
The Shape and The New Abortion were huge on me but so are all of their songs.
The Shape is awesome
Disasterpiece is always going to rip my head off! It’s an absolute monster! 🤘🔥🤘
For me, something about (sic) is just amazing and it never gets old, along with disasterpiece and solway firth.
Anything from their first album. Nothing else tops.
Surfacing and The Heretic Anthem 😏🫡😳
For me I'm a huge fan of their entire discography, the only slight misfire for me was All Hope Is Gone but I'm a big fan of their entire discography and still am to this day but my favorite will always be The Devil In I, I owe that song quite a lot for being one of those songs that got me through a tough time back when the single released however it's one I don't listen to as much but I can firmly say it is my favorite track from Slipknot but the one track I listen to the most is oddly enough one that doesn't get much attention but Birth of the Cruel from We Are Not Your Kind, Dying Song and New Abortion are also very high up there as potential favorites for me.
That’s so hard to pick, some really good answers in there. In terms of “greatest” it’s probably Psychosocial, Duality or Custer, but if i were asked I would have said something like Sulfur or Killpop to be diverse
Purity, hands-down.
Hell ya!!
It gives me physical pain when people choose post 2008 songs as the "greatest".
Good 🤷♂️
I could not pick 1 Slipknot song as their greatest. They have so many great songs!!!
I probably would have to say Before I Forget because I remember being idk 4 years old and going crazy on that song in Guitar Hero 3
(However I need to say also
- Wait and Bleed
- Left Behind
- The Heretic Anthem
- (sic)
- Eyeless
- Welcome
It might be a little too popular but it's just my opinion)
