@1kTroopKoopas Well the waiting will be better at least. Lol. However many are quick to forget or never know, bands like this built the foundation onto a greater foundation. Generations may not know, but I can certainly hear the progression in metal and the DNA of music past in current sounds. I'm just happy metal is alive and vibrant really.
Funny you say that, quite a bit of slipknot joey done with one foot and only threw in the double for fast bits or when he got tired. Its pretty damn trippy. Another great example is maiden.
So hyped that you guys partnered with Drumeo and that they support you with this style of video that they popularized! Drummers supporting drummers is the way man
Lil dude is a beast! Even though he was out of his comfort zone, he gave it a shot and took a lot of chances during the retake after listening to the original (and even tried to respect the original groove as much as he could). That was phenomenal. That right foot control is mental! What a legend. Imagine what he would do if he had a lot of time to practice, create and record a song like this on an album.
From the second verse on it got progressively good outside of a few miscues here and there overall a great interpretation of duality a classic slipknot track 👍👍this kid has amazing potential at 16
That was so much fun watching him go from struggling a bit to enjoying himself. Joey would be proud. Was a blast to watch. Those fills just made me smile. Well done.
I mean... giving a 16 year old kid JOEY JORDISON. not fair. but for him to not be fearful when he heard the track without the drums and go for it... good on him
I mean... What does age have to do with anything? I've heard some 8 year olds nail Slipknot songs with ease. Practice makes perfect. Also the best drummers are the ones who don't stick to one genre but try to embrace it all and learn as many techniques as they can. They become versatile beasts on drums.
@@timkrash9190 You could also say that by taking on challenges like this Joshua us doing "what the best do" by taking on new genres and improving his ability to be put on the spot. You can 100% tell he wasn't ready for it, but every time he got back to a part again it was cleaner and sounded better. By the end he was doing an incredible job. My only tip to Josh may only be practicing more active listening. It seems like while he was listening he didn't play around too much which is something you would see someone like Chad Smith do right away. Either way he's only 16 and he's got a great career ahead of him.
Travis is an amazing drummer though. Pretty technical and actually incorporates a lot of drum rudiments in the songs. Most drummers just skip rudiments and go full on blasting the drums.
He was real nervous the first time but his 2nd take after hearing it is nuts. The foot speed, creativity in his fills and groove, and consistency with rhythm are already top notch.
Makes total sense to find a younger drummer to do this challenge. What a talented kid to add a touch of gospel to slipknot! now a metal drummer has to play a gospel song
So cool you got hooked up with Drumeo and they're showing love back. And loving that smile on his face part way through the bridge the 2nd time around.
I think a few of wish we were this good at 16. My guy smashed it on the redemption Still waiting on our main man Tim to throw down. Until then you will be known as a coward 😂😂😂 (still love you tim)
I love, that he was bobbin’ his head to it like it was a simple little drum part. He was claiming how his foot tired, trying to do 3 bass drum parts with his one beater. Amazing talent! Thank you!!
"The way the guitar and the bass come together, just like the way it sounds with the melody. its so crazy. i hear it. like, i just hear it. it sounds so fire." can feel the appreciation for the musicianship. he gets it.
Great Performance. And thank you for not copying the concept but putting a Twist on the drumeo formula. It was really cool to hear the second Performance after heard the original ❤
Ayo can I just shout out homie absolutely CATCHING the groove in that bridge and fills section? He starts into it, steps off a little on the beat to catch it, and then just sits in the pocket the whole way through. What a quick adaption! Good work lil bro, that was some solid work!
Coming from this old head drummer, who spent much of the late 90's and early 2000's in a Slipknot mosh pit, I loved what this young man did! That was a lot of fun to listen to, and fun to watch as well. Good job! 👏👏👏
Metal drummer here- I started learning Duality at 13 on my cheap electronic kit coming from a punk rock background. This beat threw me for a loop in a totally different way than him but it was super cool to see the perspective switch!!
Not gonna lie, this dude got talent! I've been drumming for over 25 years, and I couldn't have done this. I would have had to hear this more than 3 times to play it. Good Job!!!!
To be fair apart from the all time great Joey Jordinson, Slipknot had also 2 percussionists producing some crazy fills, so give this kid some mad respect for making a decent effort on a monster track! Way to go lil fella!
One of my favorite episodes! 16 years old and taking on slipknot as a challenge! I teach drums to kids your age. I'm definitely going to show them this video about perspective. I love metal and gospel drums so this is just so awesome. Joshua Grant, you got a fan. Appreciate you and drumble for this series.
"My pops listens to Slipknot". I just realised that I could be this kid's dad. That's crazy. Obviously, Slipknot was huge 20 years ago, when I was a teen. To now hear kids talking about their "pops" listening to it... burh. I guess I'm a similar age to this kid's dad. I don't have kids. But if this was my kid, I would be hella proud for his incredible achievements in the music/drum space. What an absolute weapon.
Now I subbed. That guy is killing it. He has a good intuition. Never heard that song before he got most parts especially the ones most drummer ignore, when a drummer just to take it low to silent. Respect. My guess when he would work on that song just one day he could nail it. Respect. Keep on rocking
Feel like the metronome was doin' him dirty haha Bringing the energy of the verse down was something I'd never think of doing in a million years but it sounded freakin sick
Dude I fucking LOVE when stereotypes are absolutely demolished like and for lack of a better way of putting it African Americans hating rock/metal and its always such a fucking jam watching homies jam these songs and at times even goosebumps inducing how into it they get absolutely fucking KILLING the songs with passion and drive. Well done lads, another killer vid! His pops is a fucking legend! Props to the youngin, hope he goes far!
I've always wanted to try this on my channel but it would never make sense, seeing as you not only need someone else to help facilitate it all but also to find a song that I've never heard before. Hopefully someday I'd get to try it, because it sounds really intriguing to truly try and take a stab at something for the first time ever and improv it, hoping it does justice to the original. Kid did good. Keep up this content!
Oh my God. That second run through. Daaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmnnnn with a little more syncopated beats I think you could fill in for the slip knot drummer if he was sick . ❤
I thought Joshua really started hitting his stride half way through his take. I would have loved to hear him take a 2nd go at the song before hearing the original. He has a lot of talent. Bring him back sometime.
And he WENT FOR IT after hearing the song, this is what drumming looks like and my man is a beast. I bet he has it perfect 24 hours after this was recorded. Much love man keep rocking

“My pops listens to Slipknot” - I’m getting old 😩 😂😂
It used to be "my dad listens to The Beatles" 😂
Wait... ffffffuuuuuuaaahhh I'm old too!
Classic metal LOL
Slipknot is going to be played in elevators and waiting rooms soon

Church drummers are always top shelf. This dude rips.

Yeah, it was a bit beyond him, but he laid down a good groove for it, and I'd like to see what he'd do with it in 10 years.

That song has 3 drummers so an impossible sound to fully replicate, he did a great job.

This is like the 2nd or 3rd gospel drummer I’ve seen do metal. Very impressive. Kids gonna go far if he wants to for sure.
Bro putting a gospel vibe on Slipknot, pure class
