    FanControl pulled a sneaky! Opened it up today to tune my settings and there was a changelog with the newest update, one of the points were "program now asks you to save when you attempt to close it without saving (Thanks Jay!)". Really did a nice thing here with this video, keep up the amazing content and showing people these amazing softwares that not everyone knows about, definitely helping improve the PC community one step at a time!

      Just donated too. The headaches I've had with other software, I tell you what. FanXpert straight up forgets the fan configuration at random. Afterburner drops fan control like a hot potato when it's not running. With this Fan Control software, it's only a few megabytes and does a stellar job of making everything reliable and easy to use. And even beats the other software in functionality too.

    I love FanControl! I've been using it since 2019. I have one suggestion for people that use it though. Open the program, click the three-dots, then click sensor settings and uncheck "Storage" monitoring. I found that having this monitoring turned on would make it difficult for me to unmount drives at times (I have a dual-SATA drive dock and a couple of USB docks). Simply unchecking this option fixed the issue entirely. I highly highly recommend FanControl though! My favorite feature is setting up custom curves that will link, for example, the speed of exhaust fans to whatever is the highest temperature in the PC (GPU or CPU) so that there will always be enough air exiting the case when there is a lot of heat being generated.

    Just to clarify in case anyone gets confused. The "max" function on the "mix" curve selects the "max" fan percentage. NOT the max temperature. For example: if the GPU was 40C but you set it to spin fans at 100%... And the CPU was at 80C and you set it to run fans at 30%... The mix set to "max" would favor GPU and spin at 100% even though the GPU is cooler

    • @TheDarkestSmurf
      @TheDarkestSmurf 2 роки тому +8

      So, I want to control the speed of the intake fan blowing air directly towards my GPU to be controlled either by CPU temp, with the rest of my case fans like it normally would, or by GPU temp, for when the GPU is running hotter than the CPU. They both usually hover around 36-40°C when idle, depending on ambient temperature.
      Shouldn't setting identical fan curves in Fan Control for both CPU und GPU achieve that and circumvent the scenario you described?

    it was one of the first pieces of software I have installed on my PC as I have finished building it last August. It's really amazing. Over time my fan curves and sensor combinations grew more complex and the system got cooler without fans freaking out at every load spike.
    EDIT: I wanted to mention one more way of dealing with the after-blow without too long response times. Add a custom sensor for 300 sec average temp and a sensor for 5 sec average. Add a custom sensor with max function of the both 300 and 5 sec average. This max is now the temperature source for your component (CPU for example). So it will ramp up quickly enough and bring down the 5 minute average after that. In my case it's a 420mm AIO that's going to get thermal soaked. You can use the 5 minute average for mixing like Jay did for the CPU/GPU max and set the exhaust fan for the same purpose of cooling down the hotbox after sustained load. The opportunities are endless!

There is nothing special about anything going on inside a computer outside of the CPUs instruction set. Its all based on available standardized protocols and usually available datasheets. All its takes is a bit of knowhow and tinkering to come up with a solution that blows holes in their little walled gardens of implied (and falsely so) proprietary software.

    Big thanks to Jay for the rather quick explanation and to Rem0o for creating the software.
    I had to go through 6h of troubleshooting why my SSD wouldn't let me install windows with all 8 fans inside the case going at max RPM, and when I finally managed to install this, it was showing percentages working, but the fans weren't responding. So it can also be used to troubleshoot.
    Actually hearing saver for me. I can still hear the airplane inside the room in my head.

    Finally got around to sitting down and using this. The way you (Jay) set it up in the video actually doesn't seem to go off the highest temperature, but rather the highest fan curve. I played around a bit and what you actually want to do is make a Mix Sensor. Add your CPU and GPU temp sensors to that and change it to Max, THEN make a Fan Curve based on that Mix Sensor.
    I prefer my GPU to be 0 RPM below 40C, so this is how I discovered the issue with just making a Mixed Curve. I have a GPU curve set to the GPU fans and then the Mix Sensor Curve set to the chassis/rad fans.
    Hope that helps every one!

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz 2 роки тому

      I think max PWM signal from individual fan curves is the more sensible approach because raw temperatures aren't that interesting, you could have two components that have vastly different preferred temperatures, like you may either want to have more overclocking room on your CPU and keep its maximum temperature lower, or on the other hand you might not care about the CPU that much and you're fine with it being anywhere just short of throttle limit, you just want your GPU to have fresh happy air when it needs it. So even if he hasn't worded it that way it may have been quite exactly what he wanted.

    • @dangerwr
      @dangerwr 2 роки тому

      @@SianaGearz With a custom temp sensor set to max applied to the case fans, you still set the PWM curve to whatever you want and you only have to do it once, then ALL components benefit.

So my sister said 'fans are for FFFFF' (she blew) and lights are for looks. Then we explained what we were looking for. So I then said, 'so what you get depends on the purpose, if one with lights has the features that work well _AS A FAN_ then go for it. But remember it is a fan first...

      When i got the AIO (its a 280mm be quiet one), the instruction manual said to hook it up to the "ext_Cpu_Fan" pins, so that is what i did. I have that shown in the fan control program called as "CPU Optional Fan" and i just set it to manual and 100%, i don't think you would want to ever stop or slow down the waterpump. I measured it with a multimeter, yup, 12V all the way.
      You can also identify it in the program because it will not have an RPM (since the pump doesn't have an RPM pin, ((it's the 4th pin)) so it doesn't get any data back from the pump).

My only gripe was after it finished the scan, the name of the fans didn't match any of the speeds that were shown either (likely because I was using individual fan headers on the motherboard instead of a controller as have Corsair ML fans with node core). I had to manually stop the fans to determine which was which and then name accordingly, however once they were all named, configured, profile setup, this single piece of software has resolved all the issues I was having. Interesting that you're posting this video 2 days after I discovered the software. I can surely testify to how excellent and simple to use this software is. I can create my own curves, from as simple as flat or linear line graps, to complex graph curves utilizing custom sensors that return a value that is derived from multiple sensors. For instance, the custom sensor I use in my case fans fan curve is the sum of the CPU core sensor and the GPU core sensor. I configured the graph in such a way that the fans max out when the sensor reaches 110C, which is equivalent to either a CPU stress test or a gaming scenario. The software even detects the PCH fan, which is basically the little fan on my motherboard. It can control GPU fans too, although I use MSI afterburner for this task since it has better monitoring graphs, and lets me record and see hours of GPU temps, utilization, and fan speed history on graphs so that I can later on check how my temps and fan speeds were during my gaming session.
    My PC specs:
    MOBO: Asus Prime X570-p
    CPU: AMD 3700X @ 4.3GHz all-core
    GPU: Gigabyte Gaming OC RTX 2070S (Fellow owners of this card, know that this card will require a thermal paste renewal following a year or 2 of heavy gaming use.)
    PSU: Corsair RM750 CP-9020195-EU

    SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 1TB NVMe
    HDD: 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB ST2000DM008
    Monitor: LG 27GN950
    Case: Cooler Master H500 (using the mesh panel)
    Fan setup:
    - 2x Cooler Master MF200R RGB 200mm fans at the front (intake, comes with the case, combined with an aftermarket PWM splittler cable in order to equalize theirs speeds. The included cheap Y-splittler cable that comes with the case only outputs 2 pins, which means no speed control for the fans; the aftermarket Y-splitter cable outputs 4 pins, which is compatible with both PWM and DC fans. These fans are 3 pinned though, so they are DC.)
    - a 120mm Cooler Master fan (exhaust, comes with the case, DC, soon to replaced with an Arctic P12 PWD PST CO)
    - BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4 (2 PWM fans, one 120mm, the other 135mm)
    - Planning on installing 2 intake fans (Arctic P14 PWM PST CO 140mm) at the top
    Temps:
    - CPU temps settle at 55C while gaming, max peaks reach around 68C.
    - GPU temps settle at 65-66C, max peaks at 67C, GPU fans at 68% (custom fan curve, GPU temps used to be 75C at 90% GPU fans immediately prior to changing the factory paste)

This is why I have been using this program for about a year now. Almost spent about $75 more for a motherboard with a dedicated temp sensor input just to be able to do this.

    You are so right, this guy deserves our support! 2.3M views, now 2 years later. This was my third viewing. I saw this before I had all of my parts. I came back when I got to the stage of setting up fans and carefully followed along while I had the software open. Now, I've had the PC built for about 2 weeks and went in to put a little more work into my curves. I'm so happy with the way I was able to tune my fan speeds I just had to share how mine are running. Originally, if the CPU and GPU were between 30 and 40 degrees, fans were at 50%, with a diagonal line down to 0% if temps dropped below 30. On the other end, a diagonal line from %50 @40 degrees to 100% @80 degrees. Today, I have a fan curve that pretty much runs a diagonal from 0% at @0 degrees to 100% @80 degrees on both CPU and GPU curves. What's happening is actually interesting. As I respond here looking at my Fan Control display, the CPU is 33 degrees and GPU is 36 degrees with fans at 29%. Now if I do less than visit UA-cam and comment, both CPU and GPU cool off enough to get to about 25% fan speed. The AIO cooler fans don't shut off, but all the case fans completely stop. The case fans are cheaper and don't run at such low rpms. The AIO fans are from MSI and I would assume better quality allowing them to run at lower rpms. If I sit and watch after my display times out, the fans kick on every 2-5 minutes for maybe 30 seconds. The AIO pump and GPU fans are running at manufactures default speeds/curves. So when I walk away, the GPU fans and AIO pump are keeping things cool enough case fans aren't needed. So the case fans being less capable than the cooler fans is actually a good thing. I hope I explained this well enough.

    Argus Monitor has the same functionality. Studies show constant noise is less distracting than changing noise, even if louder, so make your curve “square” rather than smooth, so the fans step up and STAY at some rpm as temps rise and fall. To cool components after a load (slow ramp down) use ACTUAL temps from those components! Add them to the mix.
