- Take a step into the pitch meeting that started the original Star Wars prequel film! Subscribe to our channel: bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Screenrant
Star Wars has come a long way since the original trilogy, and most people really like the new films following Rey, as well as the standalone prequel films that Lucasfilm has been putting out. But in order to get here, we had to go through a painful prequel trilogy in the late 90s and early 2000s. George Lucas took us on a CGI-filled ride and not everyone liked it. How did the prequel trilogy go so wrong? Why is it so focused on politics? Why does Jar Jar Binks exist? Step inside the pitch meeting that started it all! We promise, it's #SuperEasyBarelyAnInconvenience

Jedi so nice they knighted him twice...that line is TIGHT
Ryan George who knew that George Lucas could nail politics in 2018 almost 20 years prior. Time travel confirmed.
This channel is TIGHT!
I read this exactly when he said it o.o
Dan E. Ah, actually no.
No ge was already a jedi knight but they make him jedi master so he can train anakin
"Anakin and Padme a mother son relationship."
*AWWW*
"And in the next movie they bang."
*WHAT*
Alabama 100
Best part XD
Hahaha. I paused it at that point when I coughed up my drink. Good stuff!
Anakin is a gold digger and Padme is a Cougar confirmed
I mean, he's 9 and she's 14. Always seemed more like she was a big sister figure than mother. Besides, since the sequel is 10 years later, does 5 years make a difference?
Can we all stop and appreciate how each of his two characters pronounced "route" differently?
That's detail.
That’s because these twins were raised by separate parents in different parts of the world and then met later in life at camp.
Yup. Absolute proof that they are two different people, unlike what some conspiracy nuts are claiming here.
Wait, this isn't 2 different people? One isn't wearing glasses though, just like Clark Kent, so they look nothing alike to me.
@Srithor Oh, then I don't want to watch the next pitch meeting.
@Srithor I see what you did there.
The joke that gets me every time:
“Why would they do that though?”
“Because.”
“That works!”
My favorite is...
"They can't bring a kid to a war zone!"
"They bring a kid to a war zone."
My fav. is how did they get there?
I don't know
I read the comment and they said that dialogue at the same time lol
I'll never forget where I was the first time I heard,
.
"And he and Queen Amadala are going to have a sweet, mother-son thing going--"
.
"--Aww, that's cute--"
.
"--And in the next movies they're gonna bang."
.
"What?"
"a surprise to be sure but a welcome one" instant like
As soon as he said that lol
-wouldn't it be difficult to fit that quote in the video?
-actually it'll be super easy, barely an inconvenience
Welcome surprises are tight and adding one is super easy barely an inconvenience
Wow wow wow! ... Wow
Fricking Lionel Yu
Not gonna lie, I had no idea they ever used force speed
I know they used it but it never dawns on me that they never use it again. There are so many situations where that would have come in handy too.
Kinda like that weapon Obadiah uses to paralyze Tony in Ironman and how its never used again.
@@GCEXTREMEMN The paralysis thing wasn't used again in the movies, but it was shown briefly in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Except it apparently kills perfectly healthy people over phone lines now. And then it will never be used again.
@@GCEXTREMEMN Doesn't Tony give it to the little kid in Iron Man 3?
Nah, Spielberg saw Dragonball and thought it would be nice to incorporate some move/s from the said series into his storyline.
when you remember that george lucas is the writer and producer and this is just his inner monologue
😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well, this isn't the producer though but the studio exec which for star wars for some reason still would be 20th century fox.
The job of the producer isn't to give money but to be the project manager basically who helps the director to manage everything around the movie that isn't directing.
Honestly he should have stuck to writing and creating his universe, and should have let an actually good director direct episodes 1-3
@@GumaroRVillamil 33% of Lucas' directorial output - American Graffiti & Star Wars: A New Hope - was Oscar-nominated for directing - not bad for a supposedly poor director...
@M S American Graffiti was loved by critics but boring, and A New Hope was very good but George Lucas *was not* nominated for an Oscar, the nom’s were for best sound, costume design, editing, etc.
"Oh . Force speed. I bet that will come in handy later in the movie."
"They will literally never use it again."
Obiwan fails to use force speed and catch up to Darth Maul and Qui-gon. Qui-gon dies.
Obiwan is sad.
Obi-Wan.
Obiwan uses force speed and falls into the shaft...
Dave Robson runs with super speed, Darth maul turns on lightsaber, welp that’s two.
Ride Qui-Gon
Life Good
Qui-Gon Fights Back
Kill Qui-Gon
Qui Gone
Think About Qui-Gon
Regret
And then Anakin loses who would have been his father figure and the only one capable of keeping him from turning to the dark side and ever becoming Darth Vader and starting the whole story of Star Wars
Binge watching pitch meetings is super easy, barely an inconvenience
It’s tight
@@Edfiki86 tight as a gungussy
"Now this is podracing"
"But it's not"
"This, this is podracing"
That line is Tide.
The line actually does make sense though in the context of the situation... Anakin is trying to escape an exploding ship in a speeder roughly the size of a pod. Yeah, I bet it DID feel like podracing.
@@nahor88"I bet it DID feel like podracing" - Except it's not.
Now think about James Earl Jones saying that line...
Lmao, loved this
"Because."
"That works!"
Still one of the best phrases he has.
In this video he had to use it twice. And the second time the "that works" was a lot less enthusiastic than the first.
I noticed the blockade ships were gone when they returned to Nabooh but when Anikan blowd up the droid ship, they were back again? Did they go on strike for a bit then, after their reasonable demands were met, they returned to do the blockade again?
I. Wyrd I’m gonna need you to climb all the way off my back about that.
yep
Ok then!
"I can't wait to see what this bad guy does in future movies!"
"Oh, he's gonna die."
The Clone Wars: "Well yes, but actually no."
The Rebels : actually yes
@@alphagamer9505 spoiler
That's how you can tell people who watched Clone Wars but not Rebels
You say "I really liked the part where Obi Wan killed Darth Maul on Tattooine.
People who only saw Phantom Menace will say: Well actually it was on Naboo
People who only saw Clone Wars will say: Actually he didn't die.
People who saw Rebels (Or only saw the films but don't have good memory) will say: Yeah it was great.
@Luis Martinex Clone Wars is canon whether you like it or not. Darth Maul is also in the Star Wars comics following this.
@@medafan53 wait so did he or did he not die in the phantom menace?? I'm so confused
@Luis Martinex Dude, Clone Wars is better than like 2/3 of the movies.
“So you have a Darth Jar Jar origin story for me.”
“Yes sir I do.”
actually Jar Jar retired from politics and became a street performer, loved by the children, and resented by their parents.
"The little kid we cast as Anakin is gonna be so lucky. It's gonna change his life!"
Jake Lloyd: "The Phantom Menace ruined my childhood."
It doesn't help that he's schizophrenic.
Richard Southworth
Yep he got bullied and became a drug attic
Reid Sinclair a drug attic? oh no not the attic!
Sorry I had to
Jake Lloyd really blames George Lucas.
Drug attics buy their drugs from a drug cellar.
Using "super easy, barely an inconvenience" twice in one video is TIGHT
Kyle Kashi He uses that phrase all of the time, apparently.
Used it twice? Whoops. Whoopsie!
"An inconvenience barely it is, Super easy it is, yessss....."
Do, or do not… There is no inconvenience.
What, they do? Wow wow wow... Wow wow
"They have a mother-son dynamic going on"
"That's nice"
"Yeah, in the next movie, they're going to bang."
"what!?!"
Hilarious!!
Milf tag added to SW
Lol.
More like a older sister younger brother thing, but still hilarious
Yeah, I never saw it as mother/son, especially since Anakin already had a close relationship with his mom. Padme might have felt motherly towards him, though I would tend to go more the big sister route, but his side of it was definitely more like the kid with a crush on his teacher.
Its Step sister... and not ironically, this is the generation that started the "step sister" genre on The Hub....
“They are gonna have this mother son relationship”
-okay, that’s cute
“and in the next movie they are gonna Bang”
-What
😂😂😂😂😂
Wouldn't be Star Wars without some incest
@Brian Cairns isn't she only 5 years older than him?
@@burger_kinghorn Yep. And when they do hook up, he's nineteen and she's twenty-four - literally nothing weird age-wise. People just love to hate this movie. I love it, though :)
Yes! I chuckled at that!
Actually its 10 or 9 years difference
Ahsoka and anakin have a 5 year age difference
Having two uses of "Super easy, barely an inconvenience" in this video is TIGHT!
-Hasn't he already said Yoda trained him though?
-Yeah whatever
He did, when he was a youngling.
Yeah they did established that in the second movie. Yoda trains the younglings, then at some point they apprentice to a designated master.
Literally my favorite part😂😂
And obi wan can only describe his master as yoda to luke because, qui gon's dead
Huh, almost as of George Lucas made up everything as he went along...
Bringing a child to a war zone is the plot of the Mandalorian
To be fair though mando tries to leave him behind in dangerous situations. Baby Yoda just don't give a damn.
Oh I don't like that.
so true
But he's a living weapon. Bringing a child to a war only is wrong if there isn't actually a very good reason for it like that, which normally is the case, normally, a child on a battlefield serves no advantage and is merely a liability.
Bah most of the writing of the mandalorian was very lazy.
It felt like watching side quest after side quest written by a bored game master.
A waste of talent and money imao.
The only sad part is that these pitch meetings sound very accurate.
They’re 100% accurate
@Gaius Wyrden well these star wars movies also such like really bad too
The real pitch meetings wouldnt have been anything like this at all. You can see lots of the makings of them in clips now anyway. These are accurate in the sense that he doesnt bend the facts of what happens in the movie for the sake of a joke, and so everything he says is true, just said in a satirical way. They arent accurate in the sense that they are like the real pitch meetings though.

As a Canadian expat, I must give you mad props for the two characters saying "routes" with the two different pronunciations - the correct way and the way Americans say it.
As a 'Murcan I normally say route like out, router not rooter. But if I talk about the old famous highway, I always say route as root 66. I blame that old TV show theme song.
I love this guy. Such a clever way to cynically review movies. You could seriously do anything in this format.
Ryan George! Good actor 🎭
I come here for the tightest film critiques! Aspiring screenwriters and producers: When fleshing out your ideas think, "How would Ryan tear this apart?"
As if they dream. Silly. You're channeling The Screenwriter.
😂
Unfortunately he did a poor job on this one.
How do you figure?
He parroted old and long-disproved talking points about the film.
i.e. opening bit, claimes "A major part of it has to do with the taxation of trade routes", when it's only just the opening crawl that mentions this. The rest of the politics is about the invasion.
Or when he mentions that the blockade is gone for no reason, forgetting that this is because the planet is invaded instead of blocked.
Lol, I was half expecting the studio exec to say, "Anakin Skywalker grew up on Tatooine and met Obi-Wan on Tatooine. But Darth Vader could never find Luke Skywalker? Guess that Skywalker name must be common."
He didn't know Luke existed to even look for him.
The joke is Obi-Wan's really bad plan to hide the twins. But for reasons, he decided to take one child to Anakins home planet and not even change his name. Of course the real story solution was to set The Phantom Menace on all new planets. But, nostalgia.
