I'm one of 7 children. I was left home alone once, and a sister got left at a gas station when we were moving across country. So yes, the initial premise is plausible
I have one sister and I have been left alone. I was lucky enough that my sister wasn't as evil and wicked as she wanted because she told my parents the moment they hit the road. And yes I was the kid who could engineer things but hated packing and wasn't ready when everybody else was in the car.
The other thing that also bugged me is that Kevin comes downstairs and the house is NEAT AS A PIN after everyone left in a tearing hurry to make their flight.
Whats funny is that I subscribed 2 years ago, then got bored with the channel since they started basically re-doing their videos. About a month ago I found a screen rant video on my home page and ended up subscribing again. Now I'm amazed by the totally new (and improved) content, as well as what's probably my new favorite series.
Of course it has. The whole point about Christmas is being with those you love, so obviously that's the theme of Kevin missing his family and they him, and the whole part about the creepy neighbor is to forgive each other and opening your hearts, which again is what Christmas is about. These pitches are just made for fun, but if you honestly can't see the overarching Christmas theme in Home Alone, then you have a fundamentally wrong and very superficial understanding of what Christmas is about.
+GinnyLuna123 - Please re-read what KTK wrote. KTK did not say that their religion was wrong, KTK said that the other writer’s “understanding of the Christmas holiday and celebration” was off.
To be fair, just about the only Christmas movie or special that does celebrate the actual true meaning of Christmas is "A Charlie Brown Christmas." Although, "Home Alone" is still a lot closer to being a "Christmas movie" than something like "Die Hard."
In Poland it became a tradition to watch "Kevin alone at home" every Christmas. They play it on a lot of different channels so you are sure to catch it and now it's not the same without it. That movie and getting clementines are the two classic Christmas things.
Home Alone gets shown a lot around Christmas in America but the one that gets shown the most is A Christmas Story. On Christmas day they show it back to back all day long. I have never heard of Dinner for One before though. I suppose that makes sense since it looks like it is in German. I'll have to see if I can find an English subtitled or dubbed version somewhere.

to me the best part is seeing how this ties into screen rant. often times ryan has to be really specific just to tie into screen rant just to make a pitch meeting possible
This does raise a lot of good points that are entertaining to listen to rather than risking ruining my enjoyment of this film (as Home Alone isn't meant to be taken too seriously). Such as Kevin not being able to pack a suitcase but he can set all those elaborate traps (and with calling him a psychopath here I expected a reference to the theory that he grows up to be Jigsaw), and how Marv and Harry forget about robbing the house when Kevin leaves them alone and are more interested in killing him. I did of course see the part about his reaction to thinking he killed his family coming from a mile away.
I like how during different pitch meetings the writer and the producer sometimes have subtly different personalities from other pitch meetings. Or one of them will sometimes be smarter or more observant... or rational. That's a nice touch.

It's crazy how much I always used to think about home alone as a Christmas movie and realize now that there was absolutely nothing Christmasy about it other than the aesthetics lol
I mean valuing family is a pretty Christmasy theme and it's all over this movie. Kevin eventually wishes for his family back and even helps his neighbor reunite with his.
@@moretac This is an excellent point, although the movie undermines it somewhat by having the whole rest of the family show up at the end 45 seconds after Mrs. McAllister.
Ok, I acknowledge the setup is extremely coincidental and unrealistic. But I really like it, because it shows the writers actually put thought and effort into building the plot. Rather than just have them forget him and leave it at that, they worked hard to cover as many bases as they could think up. So rather than a continuous strain of suspension of disbelief, it’s a massive pill right at the start.
The best part of this is where he points out that Home Alone is somehow known as 'the most popular Christmas' film while it has almost nothing to do with Christmas.
It's the same with Die Hard. Die Hard is considered a Christmas movie by many simply because there's Christmas themed stuff around. Most of the movie has nothing to do with Christmas at all.
I just got into the pitch meeting thing and discovered all the newer ones before I saw this. Kinda weird to see him doing the same jokes but not in the snarky voice!
Right?!? I've been watching them for years, I love the newer ones with more attitude lol 😂 Also having seen hoke alone probably 100x since its release growing up ad now with my own kids I mever realized the dad throwing out the plaw ticket in the trash lol
I've been watching pitch meeting since the beginning and I just rewatched this for the first time in 5 years. And yeah, it just feels weird after getting used to the new ones.
I always use suspension of disbelief for all movies. If the whole family went on holiday to the moon and "accidentally" leaves Kevin on the moon at the mercy of the moon people, I'd still love it. Your pitch meetings are amazing Ryan, well done.
I just can't believe how perfect this was! Thank you for speaking the emotions and thoughts that were always in my mind about this movie but I could never phrase it this way (nor staying this calm about it) :D
I always love the notion of a professional screenwriter "doing some research" to discover the concept of suspension of disbelief. It's one of those little comedic details that always gets me.
"That's when you make a movie take place at Christmas time so that people think it's a Christmas movie" Ironically the same reason people think Die Hard is a Christmas movie (instead of a movie taking place AT Christmas), despite being reelased in July 1988. Especially since Home Alone is Die Hard for Kids.
Suspension of disbelief... Or a chain of coincidences. 1) As a child i was a very heavy sleeper (Still am) and since he is a floor above the chaos, there is a very good chance it is not as loud as you may think 2) The plane ticket is very possible, it is an accident 3) He is one of the youngest and impulsive it is quite possible that Kevin is often bullied. 4) The random kid is a next door neighbor, he was curious what is going on. (But they should have done a second head count) 5) They were rushing and often do not have somone in the attic. 6) Power outages in the inter can easily be explained. In 1998 quebec had an ice storm that knocked power out almost everywhere. My family had 10 days with no power. in april 2023, I lost power for about a week after an ice storm. It was cold enough to see my breath in my apartment. (Stayed at my moms until i got power back)

So rather than a continuous strain of suspension of disbelief, it’s a massive pill right at the start.
A pitch meeting for the “final destination” films would be hilarious.
Who else came to this video to check the computer in the background after seeing the 100th episode special?
I saw the 100 special two days ago. now I remembered and checked. Thanks
Me lel
Yeah
"Because they have some VCR's"
"VCR's are great"
"and they always will be"
XD
lovee this
I just got into the pitch meeting thing and discovered all the newer ones before I saw this. Kinda weird to see him doing the same jokes but not in the snarky voice!
Right?!? I've been watching them for years, I love the newer ones with more attitude lol 😂
Also having seen hoke alone probably 100x since its release growing up ad now with my own kids I mever realized the dad throwing out the plaw ticket in the trash lol
I love watching these pitch meetings, its super easy, barely an inconvenience! Lol.
I just can't believe how perfect this was!
Thank you for speaking the emotions and thoughts that were always in my mind about this movie but I could never phrase it this way (nor staying this calm about it) :D
I totally feel you! ;)
"They somehow survive a bunch of very very fatal injuries"
I'm beginning to love this series
"Super easy, barely an inconvenience." Seems like that line makes it into all of these pitch meetings.
I always love the notion of a professional screenwriter "doing some research" to discover the concept of suspension of disbelief. It's one of those little comedic details that always gets me.
"That's when you make a movie take place at Christmas time so that people think it's a Christmas movie"
Ironically the same reason people think Die Hard is a Christmas movie (instead of a movie taking place AT Christmas), despite being reelased in July 1988. Especially since Home Alone is Die Hard for Kids.
I didn’t have to suspend my disbelief for any part of the movie, until they showed that they left both garage doors open before leaving to Paris.
"VCRs are great and they probably always will be" 🤣
Suspension of disbelief... Or a chain of coincidences.
1) As a child i was a very heavy sleeper (Still am) and since he is a floor above the chaos, there is a very good chance it is not as loud as you may think
2) The plane ticket is very possible, it is an accident
3) He is one of the youngest and impulsive it is quite possible that Kevin is often bullied.
4) The random kid is a next door neighbor, he was curious what is going on. (But they should have done a second head count)
5) They were rushing and often do not have somone in the attic.
6) Power outages in the inter can easily be explained. In 1998 quebec had an ice storm that knocked power out almost everywhere. My family had 10 days with no power. in april 2023, I lost power for about a week after an ice storm. It was cold enough to see my breath in my apartment. (Stayed at my moms until i got power back)
watching this video three years later and comparing ryan's evolution with pitch meetings is so amazing
3:45 "Except I didn't shave " was GOLD
People: you watch the pitch meeting BECAUSE you watch the movies.
Me, an intellectual: we watch the movies SO we can watch the pitch meeting.
4:18 "Ohhh.....i dont get it"
My entire college education.
That intro... it scares me. Not hearing, "So, you have a movie for me" rocks me to my core.
You forgot that even the AIRPORT CHECK-IN STAFF forget Kevin, like, there's an empty seat. Where's the announcement?
