Dear Kristie ~ I just had to write you, as I'm sitting here eating the crack slaw I just made. This will be on my rotation from now on. Fairly quick, really easy, and OH, SO DELICIOUS! I had a heart attack the beginning of March and spent 9 days in the hospital, having a stent placement. I got released a couple days before my 54th birthday. I've been a diabetic for years and insulin dependent for the last two or so. After the scare of the heart attack I just had to do something, so started on this low carb journey. Your channel, your recipes, and just YOU have been such a help to me. I almost feel like I would be comfortable sitting at the kitchen table with you having a cup of coffee & just talking about nothing and everything. Anyways, I didn't mean to go on and on like this, but wanted to let you know what I difference you've been making for me and I'm sure so many others. Thanks for being you! ~ Jill Apel. PS: I'm down 30 pounds since March and my sugars have been in the normal range. I see my doctor in a couple weeks and I'm thinking he's going to stop my insulin and maybe some of my oral meds as well! WOO-HOO!!!

For those who dont know sesame oil should be added at the end for flavor. Not used to fry it will make it bitter. Ive watched a few vids where they add at the beginning. Its morelike a condiment added at the end for flavor

My ALL TIME personal favorite! I have been eating it every week. One thing I have learned since Feb. 1 start is that I need to prepare meals ahead of time. That keeps me from eating too late. I did a big pot of Crack Slaw, baked Chicken thighs on top of broken cauliflower, and a pan of beef and peppers. Fish is a quicker dinner so I won't do that ahead of time. Yay me!

Jeepgurl My Grandmother cooked with lard back then. The lifestyles were so different back then. We didn't have the obesity epidemic we have now. People are lazier, and eat more of the wrong foods. I'm on a Keto diet now, but I will not use bacon and animal fats as suggested. I don't even do the suggested 75% fat. I save the bacon grease to season my cast iron pans.......lol.

I’ve begun to wonder if the “secret of life” isn’t bacon! Lol! Both my maternal grandparents lived to be over 100 years old. My g’ma was 104, my g’pa 101. They started their day with a huge breakfast, typically consisting of bacon, ham, potatoes, eggs, toast, and a fresh tomato. My g’ma also kept bacon fat to cook and season her pans with. Their dinners often included potatoes and/or chicken fried in bacon fat. Yep, I think bacon may just be the secret! Lol!

I love this recipe and I make it a lot. Today, I had a little malfunction and figured out that my slaw mix was bad after I had the meat cooking... :-o. I quickly quartered a bunch of Brussels Sprouts.... And tossed them in with a little bit of butter (2Tbsp) and WOW! I did cook in the skillet with a lid on it for 7-8 min to make sure the sprouts got done.
Thanks for all the work you do putting recipes out there.

The reason your channel is so important is that I love to cook. I don't think I could stay keto if I couldn't invent or discover ways of making full meals. Last night I made tuna steak, sautéed garlic mushrooms, and steamed broccoli very nice 3 course keto meal. One pan wonders I used to make 3 nights a week this is a way to bring them back.

Hi Kristie, my husband has been doing the keto diet for about a month now, and seen great results. Our 25 year old daughter started about 2-3 weeks and has also seen some great results. Since my college years, I too have struggled with my weight, getting as high as 233lbs. Last October, I joined a 6-week challenge & workout gym, and saw fantastic results with my first 2 challenges (40lbs) but have stalled and found it very hard to find that thing that I can continue with to live a healthy life & get those last 40lbs off. My mom got your name from a friend, and told me about your videos. I found one, and started watching, and just kept watching. Your story resonated with me and I found your book. When I saw all the yummy recipes, and just had to give it a try. We made your Crack Slaw last night, and the whole family loved it. Going to make a big batch for this next week. So very yummy!! Thank you for sharing your story and recipes!! - Jenny R

I have been making something like this for YEARS...and although I'm just learning LCHF keto type dieting, I did do Atkins for awhile back in 2005. We used to eat this over brown rice and I would include bok choy, napa cabbage, bamboo shoots. Glad to see it would still be translatable to keto HF plan... without the rice, of course :) Thanks

I've made a similar dish for several years and we've always loved it. Then I tried almost the same recipe, but used ground pork instead of the ground beef. I added fluffy scrambled eggs right at the end. Wow! Tasted like a pork egg roll without the high carb wrapper, and we loved it! Hubby asks for this a lot! Trying to figure out how to prepare it ahead of time and maybe re-heat for our sailing trips. Seems to be pretty good the second time around, so I think it should work.

Last night my son made chips and cheese. This morning there was one last piece with cheese melted cheese. I looked at it and quickly gave it to the dog. Today I decided to make my own version. I sprayed a baking stone pan and threw a bag of shredded cheese all over it. I shook Mexican seasoning over it and popped it into the oven till it got bubbly and crusty on the sides. Letting it cool and cutting it into strips with kitchen scissors, provided me with a wildly tasty version. It was crunchy and delicious! My son loved it too! I loved hearing your story too. I pray for your continued SUCCESS!!!!!

I'm a gastric sleeve patient and I'm down 60 pounds but having a history of PCOS and insulin resistance I still don't lose when I take in the # of carbs that are supposed to be the acceptable number for me. I have to be in the extreme to lose. I just found your channel a few weeks ago after trying to find recipes to satisfy my cravings for sweets and easy recipes for everyday. I made the crack slaw tonight! It's freaking delicious! Reminds me of Sukiyaki (a Japanese meal-has similar flavors). I didn't have bacon grease so I plopped some butter in it and I only had the low sodium soy sauce. I will be purchasing the coconut amino and following everything you make. I'm a cake and cookies kind of girl and I've been dying for cake!

It's really unfortunate you felt you had to do that, I'm super sad to hear. Calories are not 100% of the equation, since sugar reacts in the body by causing hormonal changes to be altered, specifically insulin which will prevent weight loss even under low caloric restrictions, but leave you feeling starved and famished. Please look into keto, plenty of people have done amazing on it, and generally tend to do better on it than most all other life style changes / diets. It's truely is a lifestyle, because diets are "quick" things you do and often stop, keto is something you do for a year + ore continuously once you loose the weight, it changes your perception of food and how it effects both your physical & emotional state. Read this study, bjsm.bmj.com/content/51/2/133.full.pdf+html

Robert Kraig I do do Keto. The diet that they suggest with the sleeve is to have 60 grams of carbs a day. I don't lose at all at that. I have to eat super low carb. I had the surgery because along with the PCOS etc, I wanted to eat all the time. This has controlled my appetite and made sticking to a diet much easier. It is not a solution for others. I had to do it.

    • @chrisgordon6639
      @chrisgordon6639 7 років тому +1

Laura, please seriously consider that the Suggested diet they gave you is to high in carbs. Cutting it down 11 carbs, to 49 sounds nuts, but try it. ANd the urge to eat all the time is most likely caused by hormone imbalance, but not the hormone Insulin, other ones. Cutting your carbs will help. And ACV 2 x day in conjunction with GOOD high fats seems to correct gut issues to much high carb foods caused. Insulin being the primary evil, the others can't be corrected without correcting leaky gut syndrome, which is directly related to so many diseases along with obesity related diseases. ( which studies have indicated, Obesity is a hormone imbalance, insulin being the first because we can see the excess weight the resistance to insulin has caused. ANyway, I wish you luck. And RObert, (commenting to you above) is right. I'm off to check out that article he suggested you read. It might be crap. It could be something enlightening. I hope it's legit. Good luck to you. Kristies channel is great.

    • @karenquick8737

Hi Susan, it's been my understanding, that it's because the chemical in it raw, that can interfere with the meds. working properly. It's the cruciferous veggies, such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. Once they're cooked, the chemical is deactivated. So we can enjoy them as much as we like, with being cooked, and that's gotten to be my favorite way anyway. You can google your question, and there will be a better explanation and a list of ones that are better cooked. I will have some of the cabbage, etc., but it's real rare.

I can’t thank you enough for all you do! You have been a Blessing from God to me!
I all but given up hope, and just thought for the rest of my life I will live fat. You have inspired me. We are so much alike, so that helps 😉 inspire me to! I am a 45 year old mom. I have 5 kids, my youngest is 5. I love how you keep this lifestyle in the “Real World” . So many videos on UA-cam, are sales pitches, kids in their 20’s and 30’s with no kids. Just can’t relate to them. I’m on day 3 🥰
I’m also a member now on your Facebook group.

I'm very new to keto (3 weeks tomorrow!) and this has already become a staple for me...it's perfect for work lunches and I'm enjoying making my coworkers jealous every day when I heat it up! I look very forward to what you will make once the weather turns cooler (which I really hope is soon).

I made this for dinner tonight, and OH My Goodness.....the name is certainly appropriate! Having never made any dish using these seasonings, I took a light hand and was much too conservative. I'll know next time to be more generous! Thank you for sharing, as I now know that this will be a welcome addition to my menu.

Hi Kristie, I’m a new sub and wanted to thank you for your Soul bread recipe. If Highfalutin’ Low Carb guy thinks it’s good, I typically try the recipe. After watching your Aldi’s shopping video and listening to your comments, I can tell you are fully invested in the keto eating lifestyle. My husband and I began eating keto July, last year. He wanted to lose weight, as did I. In addition, I’ve been chronically ill for 7 years and needed a healthy eating lifestyle. I’m happy to say that changing our eating habits, along with many changes I’ve made, I feel I’m finally on the path back to health. As I watched this video, I noticed you used what appeared to be iodized salt? I and several others have done research on salt. We have found that the only salt you can safely consume is Pink Himalayan salt. Unless you’ve already done research on salt, I “suggest” for your family’s health that you please spend some time researching. In consideration for all you share, I wanted to pass along a healthy suggestion. I am so looking forward to learning more of your recipes and I thank you so very much for sharing them. Many blessings and much love to you.

Hi! I began my low carb journey 4 days ago and thus far have lost 1 lb each day :) I'm a frugal mom of 3 hungry teenagers and appreciate your practical advice. I'm going to try your recipe with coconut cream instead of the sweetener. 1 Tbsp of coconut cream has 1 g carbs.

Hello. I found you from reading your comment on The Indi Project. I knew when you used the word "Y'all" ( Yes people it's a word) that you were Southern. I looked you up to try and see what part you come from. I am in So. Alabama. I found instead a great recipe. Can't wait to try it. See you on the Indi Project.
