40 years ago, my Thai sister taught me to use Jimmy Dean sausage (original flavor) and cabbage with soy sauce to make pretty much this same dish (the sausage is already seasoned up nicely). We serve it over rice as a main dish and use it as filling in egg rolls. A family favorite for decades!
@@100hooker no recipe. I brown the sausage completely, add roughly chopped cabbage and cook til it wilts, then add soy sauce to taste. It should be just a touch stronger than you would eat if you were eating it plain, because the rice will balance some of that saltiness.
I love serving using green leaf lettuce or butter lettuce as a wrapper and turn this into a bit of a spring roll cuz who doesn’t love finger food, am I right? 😂
I make fried cabbage using the bagged coleslaw. In a large skillet put 2-3 bags of coleslaw, one yellow onion, 1 stick of butter and 1 tbsp bacon drippings, and 2 cans of Rotel. Cook for about 20-30 minutes! Yum!!!
You can do crack slaw SO many ways. We've made it with Italian sausage and a little marinara at the end, ground beef with taco seasoning, leftover pork shoulder with green chile sauce, you can't really do it wrong. You don't need a big griddle, a 12" pan with a lid works great. The lid steams the cabbage if you like it cooked soft. Sometimes I cook just a whole head of cabbage with some butter, uncovered on medium high until it just starts to brown and use it as a side.
I got a tip from an Indian cook on here (YT). I chop up/processor fresh ginger..put it in ice cube trays for an hour then throw them in a container to use whenever. That’s what I used for this dish after looking up the ingredients in commercial paste. Nasty most of them. Straight ginger in this recipe was awesome. Great recipe. Thanks!
That's how this is often served. Unstuffed egg roll recipes have been around for many years, and alot of them include serving baked or fried wonton wrappers with the stuffing.

I'd like to make a recommendation on this. Add in some super thin cut steak that's been marinated over night in a mix of chili powder, lemon juice, A1, and ginger. You'll have to play with the marinade mix a bit for personal preference, but grill the steak and chop it up first before you start adding the pork to the mix that way the flavors can really mix in and play together.
We're eating it now and it's soooo good. You were right, it comes together so quickly and easily. We're definitely adding this to our dinner rotation. Tastes great, filling and low carb. Sounds so good!
Trick: Get you some type of domed lid with a handle, you can cover sections to allow the heat to build and cook through faster to keep control over what you're seering. Also this recipe is a grilled version similar to one called 'eggroll in a bowl' which is a low carb / keto dish that's done a lot.
When you first started I didn't get it but when you hit this with Asian aromatics and sauces........Ya Man gonna try it thank you
Love cabbage... Can't wait to try!
Tried this and it came out AMAZING!
Great to hear! Glad you enjoyed it!
First video of yours that I have watched and you sure are making me miss home. Not that you cooked something I really ever had in the 2 plus decades of living in the Durham/Chapel Hill area, but your accent and slang...thank you :)
So I ordered some lettuce and mixed greens from Walmart and I guess they thought a bag of angel hair coleslaw mix would be a good substitute… They were wrong. But because of that mistake I found you and found something really delicious to make on my iron skilletrather than let it go to waste. Thank you so much man. I’m a subscriber now.
I love cabbage and love it as a salad and also as cooked meal not to mention its healthy with nutrients and potassium and magnesium.! thanks for the new recipes I can try from your knowledge soooo much thanks!
Thanks so much !
Oh, I so love this!! Easy to make!! Thank you for this. I love egg rolls, but can't eat the wrapping. This is a great alternative!!
I used to make this as a healthy low carb meal on the stove top using ground turkey. I can't wait to try this on the griddle! I enjoy watching your channel and love the Southern Hospitality you provide us!
Thanks Steve for watching my friend!
Looks like an awesome go to dish..I must try it.😊 Appreciate you sharing what truly looks to be "good groceries" Thanks Hussy always a pleasure to see you cooking.😊🇺🇸😇
Looks delicious, Hussey. Your fist pump said it all!! Have a great week, my friend!!
Fist pump means good stuff!
Thank you so much, Sir. I have a big bag of cabbage and this is going to be a great different dinner. Have a nice day.
This was my first time to Your channel. I did give You A like and Subscribed to Your channel. I love this recipe. Thank You for sharing this with Us. I look forward to seeing more of Your videos.
God BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! ✝️🙏🏽👍🏼❤️👋🏼
Have to get the ingredients and try this ASAP. If it's not too wet, I'll use this fer lumpia filling. (Filipino egg rolls)❤
I made this a day ago and it was awesome! Great job...This will for sure be one of my "go to" recipes. I liked the sesame oil at the end; similar to my fried rice recipe. Next time I might add some finely chopped Water Chestnuts, but I followed the recipe in the video exactly. thanks!!!!
Ive made this several times.
I get the wonton strips and mix it in for a nice crunch.
Or you can use wonton wrappers, place cooked 'crack slaw' in a wrapper... Fry it like crab rangoon or egg roll/spring roll wrappers work too Im sure.
Dip them in your fave sauces... Yum
That looks absolutely amazing just amazing. I can’t wait to try it. I made a chicken salad today and I didn’t have any celery. All I had was coleslaw from Publix and I mixed a couple of tablespoons of coleslaw with the chicken along with onions, celery seed, pepper, salt, eggs, whole mustard, sweet relish and mayonnaise. I’ll tell you what it’s amazing what cabbage or coleslaw can do.
Sounds yum!
Cooked this up with some added Mung Beans and Chorizo. Totally awesome!
Thanks much for mentioning Sesame Oil, even though you're not a fan :) We love it!
I know many are for me, I just don't enjoy it. Thanks for watching!
@@thehungryhussey We're new subscribers and really enjoy your mannerisms and yummy dishes. Doggie cameos too! Blessings.
HH, you knocked it out of the park! Doing it this weekend! Thank you 👍🏼
Enjoy my friend!
I always made it just like that, but never tried it with ginger. I have to try it, lol! Sounds delicious!
The moment I seen ground meat and shredded cabbage cooked on a flat top, I immediately knew there would be some soy sauce soon, and it was gonna be like egg roll filling.
Looks delicious. I think I may try this myself with some pork and some shrimp.
Man that looks amazing. Gonna have to try that. I love your pup! Cutest sous chef ever!!!
Yum yum... Gotta make us some! God bless all!
Thanks for watching!
I'm trying this tomorrow, but I'm going to take this recipe and mix it with some rice to make it stretch for two meals. It looks awesome.😊
Your video was so good, and I cooked most of our meals on my blackstone. Our deck is getting rebuilt and cant use blackstone, so im doing it in a huge cast wok. it looked soo tasty, I just had to do it some how. Thank you for the video. Almost done and smells great.
Sounds great!
