That paper towel to soak up the grease is the best cooking and kitchen tip I have ever gotten. I can't believe it was right in front of me, (and I couldn't see it) In the 50 or so years of cooking. Thank you
Are you kidding??? Anyways... In hard times keep it even though it's unhealthy. My father grew up poor, large family and grandma on her own. they only ate meat once a week and nightly ate bread dipped in the grease and everyone survived to 80's
See I don't like it I feel like I cannot get all the grease out . And we are trying to eat healthier so I want all that extra fat out so I go ahead and strain mine but in a pinch I will use the pt but I have to do at least 3 or 4 times to make sure its properly drained for me

@@gen81465 I think that is what is really great about Catherine's plates is that you can easily make substitutions to make recipes so that they fit your pallet. Catherine has a family to feed and considers their pallets for her food. Your suggestions do sound really good.
I made this for dinner tonight. Very tasty!! I used 1 large onion instead of two and I used 1 lb of ground beef instead of 2. Came out great! I totally forgot the cheese but it was fine. Served with a slice of garlic bread toast and a side salad and it was very filling! And we have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow. Thank you!
I like not so much beef but more rice so I would do half the ground beef probably. But that's just my preference. I probably wouldn't add the peas but use mushrooms instead. I bet it would be good with toast or garlic bread. Yummy!
One of my gobto skillet dinners is: 2-3. Potatoes diced. One small onion and a small green pepper diced. Heat the skillet and add fat of your choice. I use butter. Add potatoes, onion, and pepper. My mom made what she called southern baked rice but she didn’t bake it just one skillet. Brown ground beef add onion celery mushrooms 1 can chicken gumbo soup 1 can water white long grain rice season to taste bon appetite.
I made this for the 1st time today and it was so good I had 2nds. I love to cook but health issues has made it difficult to stand for very long. Love French onion soup and all of your receipts! I usually cut the recipe in half, because I’m 77 and living alone. So my freezer is full most of the time! But after sixty years of cooking for two to six, it’s hard not to do that.
I'm so making this tonight. Don't have the canned french onion soup, but i have the Lipton soup packet. I'll just add a bit more broth. I also have a can of french fried onions left over from Thanksgiving. Pan fry enough per serving and sprinkle on top. Can wait to try this!
Just made this tonight 2-19-2024 it was delicious! Definitely adding to our monthly dinner list, kids and adults all loved it happy family of 5. Thank you for sharing.
Delicious! Didn't have canned soup so substituted Lipton onion soup with qt. of beef broth. Did not add salt and used your 2nd recipe using egg noodles. LOVE IT!!
Been making this since the 1960's. I also put in 1 or 2 cans of Hunt's Stewed Tomatoes, and sprinkle heavy with cheese, & then put under the broiler until the cheese melts & is nice and brown. Yuck to the peas, though, as mushrooms would be much better. Mum used to make this all the time. She said this was a depression meal. She also put in real fresh tomatoes, and celery from the gardens. I'm hungry for it again. Mum called it Spanish Rice. Daddy used to put ketchup on it.
Catherine, I saw this video and gave it a try. My husband and I love our one pot meals and we want to thank you because we absoutly love this one. Just made this today on a Sunday afternoon & yes, oh my yes - it is delicious! You can eat it with or without the cheese. I left the cheese out so that anyone eating it can just reheat with their own cheese. A definite winner here. I’m thinking of making this ahead of time for a football gathering by putting it in a crockpot. Keep your recipes coming !
Mixed it with shredded oaxaca cheese, substitute the peas for carrots and used a 50/50 pork/beef ground meat(cheaper). Was awesome! Makes a lot too! Easy to do, tasty, feeds a lot, and not that expensive to make.
Love onion soup and this looks extra special and comforting. The peas i like are LeSeur peas only because they're very small. Its been very hot in the West coast but I'll make this for sure. Thank you Catherine.
Beautiful! Game-changer if peas are added more toward the end. (They’ll maintain a fresher green look and taste) and not mix in the cheese but rather add a little grated cheese on top after rice is on a serving plate. (Makes the rice less mushy) Serve with a fresh sprig of parsley. Thanks, Catherine. Your videos are well done and easy to follow. Blessings.

My husband found this recipe for me and I made it today. I don't care for peas but added green peppers (hubby's request) and mushrooms. The cheese I had on hand was a mix of shredded mozzarella and provolone. We just finished tasting it and it is so delicious. It's just the two of us but I decided to make the full recipe so I would have leftovers to freeze for another day. Thank you so much for your videos they are really helpful. You have yet again helped me with what’s for supper my dear! Since I’ve never been good at cooking rice in anything I will most likely make my rice in my pressure cooker and make it with beef broth or consommé instead of water to impart that beef flavor in the rice and then just add it to the beef mixture. Looks amazing!
I made this last night and it was delicious. I totally forgot the cheese and it was still really really good. Considering how few spices there are I was really quite surprised that it was so tasty. Will definitely make again
This is what I call the perfect, easy and delicious meal. I could eat this everyday (minus the cheese). I’ll be making this dish. Thanks for sharing your recipe. 🙏 ❤😊
I am making this for dinner tonight! I can’t wait! Then tomorrow I’ll be making the pork, carrots and potatoes in the crockpot with the cream of onion soup! I just found your channel two days ago and I’m loving it! Thank you so much! Love your channel.
I wanted to let everyone know how mine turned out……..it was just ok. Actually I was a little bit disappointed in it. The only difference was I only had half the amount of ground meat, but I still used a full cup of rice because I thought that’s a lot of meat for so little rice. I used about a half a bag of frozen mixed vegetables. The flavor overall was sweet not savory. My husband didn’t care for it and frankly neither did I.😢. But I am still a fan and will be continuing to watch your videos ♥️
Catherine I bought the meat chopper oh my that's my favorite tool for the kitchen also doing the paper towel drain another favorite really enjoy your recipes
I made this last night for dinner. We absolutely loved it! It is so good and so easy to prepare. This recipe will be made frequently! Thank you for another wonderful meal idea! ❤

Love a one skillet dinner. I will be making this for us. Thank you Catherine!!❤😋
I like your spice containers and the way you use them. So quick and handy.
As a working man I absolutely love one skillet meals. Especially during the work week.
I LOVE one skillet meals... I love anything easily done.
That tiny yellow pepper bowl pot how cute!
Think I’ll start making these meals they look delicious😋
This is AMAZING! My husband and I loved it so much and couldn't get enough of it, so I had to make it again 2 days later. 😅 I did tweak it a bit and added small cut pieces of broccoli 🥦 florets.
Mmmmmm. That sounds really good. I would probably have to add broccoli instead of the peas.
@ladennayoung2939 I used both. I added only the peas the first time I made it and couldn't taste them at all. The broccoli made it extra good, though!
Made it and we love it!! Husband hates peas added mushrooms and may sound weird, but husband loves them, diced( rinsed) water chestnuts for some texture. He loved it. 😋😋 . Thank you again.
Glad you liked it.
Love one pot and crock pot dinners. I made this one this morning and transferred it into a casserole dish so I can just heat it up anytime. I am taking care of my Sister who has been ill so I really appreciate simple but good foods that I can throw together and eat anytime. Thanks I am enjoying your site very much.
I made this for lunch today! It was delicious. I didn't have canned French Onion soup so I used liptons dry onion soup and it worked out very well!
Wonderful!
I don't use mushrooms for anything I feed to a large crowd. Alot of people are allergic to them some are deathly allergic to them
Good to know
I'm not a savvy cook, so I love simple & easy, yet yummy! I cooked watching your "how to" video. I'm serving this delicious one skillet meal tonight in about 1/2 hour. Can't wait. Thanks.
Wonderful! I hope y'all liked it.
Hi Catherine, yes, I enjoyed my delicious "French Onion Ground Beef & Rice" meal. I have lots left over and I've frozen into serving sized portions.
I'm recommending your web site to my girlfriends. Thanks

Wow! Thanks for that. I'm glad you and your family like my recipes.
Catherine, you are a life saver!! I have a hundred cookbooks (maybe more) and couldn't find one thing to make for supper tonight. I have a grandson that has an endless appetite and this is so filling and makes a good amount. I added a small can of mushrooms and a small can of drained corn because no one cares for peas. This really tastes good!! 😊
You are so welcome! I'm glad y'all liked it.
The wife and I just made (and ate) your french onion ground beef & rice dinner, wow was it GREAT!!!!!! We are looking forward to trying another 1 of your recipes, can't wait! Thank you so much
Wonderful!
Huge hit with my family, I made this yesterday for supper. I used provolone and had green squash on the side, yummy. Thanks for the recipe!
I think the frozen peas and carrots would be amazing in this, as well! ❤
This recipe went right to my rotation and is highly requested all the time, thanks Catherine!
You are so welcome!
Great mixture for stuffed bell peppers. Yum, yum.
I adore french onion soup🇬🇧
Omgz yes, mushrooms and small diced potatoes and I the peas and carrots mixed. Thank you for this recipe, it sounds and looks amazing!!🥕🍄🥦🥔🍚🍽🍷
Plenty of flavour - nice and simple - you're a winner, Catherine!

Looks delicious and easy to make Catherine, it would be great for my sons to take to work for lunch too. Thank you for sharing this with us. 💖💖💖🇦🇺
I made this last night and it was delicious. I totally forgot the cheese and it was still really really good. Considering how few spices there are I was really quite surprised that it was so tasty. Will definitely make again
Yes please. I would like more one pan dinners.
I am most definitely going to make this tomorrow night. Thanks.
This is what I call the perfect, easy and delicious meal. I could eat this everyday (minus the cheese). I’ll be making this dish. Thanks for sharing your recipe. 🙏 ❤😊
I’m making it tonight hubby already praising the nice fragrant around the house with the onions and garlic. Hope it comes out good. Thx for sharing.
You're welcome, hope y'all enjoy.
@@CatherinesPlates success he loved it 🥰
I am making this for dinner tonight! I can’t wait! Then tomorrow I’ll be making the pork, carrots and potatoes in the crockpot with the cream of onion soup! I just found your channel two days ago and I’m loving it! Thank you so much! Love your channel.
Welcome! and I'm glad you like my channel.
That is awesome!
❤delicious 😋😋😋thank you!🙄👌🏽👌🏽
I like your trick for getting rid of the fat you get when browning ground beef. I'm going to use that from now on.
I made this last night for dinner. We absolutely loved it! It is so good and so easy to prepare. This recipe will be made frequently! Thank you for another wonderful meal idea! ❤
I’m gonna make this sans the peas. Almost stopped the video when you pulled them out, but that’s my problem. This recipe looks delicious! Thanks for sharing ❤❤❤
One pot meals and casseroles are the way to go. This one looks delicious. I'm trying to cut down on red meat so I'll probably try it with ground turkey.
