Elvis Presley, The King - Polk Salad Annie
Live in Las Vegas 1970
High Quality
Some of you all never been down South too much...
I' gonna tell you a little story, so you'll understand where I'm talking about
Down there we have a plant that grows out in the woods and the fields,
and it looks something like a turnip green.
Everybody calls it Polk salad. Now that's Polk salad.
Used to know a girl that lived down there and
she'd go out in the evenings to pick a mess of it...
Carry it home and cook it for supper, 'cause that's about all they had to eat,
But they did all right.
Down in Louisiana
Where the alligators grow so mean
Lived a girl that I swear to the world
Made the alligators look tame
Polk salad Annie
'Gators got your granny
Everybody said it was a shame
For the mama was working on the chain-gang
What a mean, vicious woman
Everyday before suppertime
She'd go down by the truck patch
And pick her a mess of Polk salad
And carry it home in a tote sack
Polk salad Annie
'Gators got you granny
Everybody said it was a shame
'Cause the mama was working on the chain-gang
Whoo, how wretched, dispiteful, straight-razor totin' woman,
Lord have mercy.
Sock a little Polk salad to him
Yeah, you know what, yeah, yeah
But daddy was a lazy and a no-count
Claimed he had a bad back
All her brothers were fit for
Was stealing watermelons out of my truck
For once Polk salad Annie
'Gators got your granny
Everybody said it was a shame
For the mama was working on the chain-gang
Sock a little Polk salad to him
You know what meets a meal mention
You sock a little
Hey, hey, hey, yeah, yeah
Chic a bon, chic a bon, chic a bon bon bon bon
Chic a bon, chic a bon, chic a bon bon bon bon
Sock a little Polk salad to him
You know what meets a meal mention
Sock a little Polk salad to him
You know what meets a meal mention
Chinc, chinc, chinc, chin, ling, ling ling

Yep, listening now again and again 👌
I am a black woman here in "2024". And, I am not ashame to say that I LOVE THIS MAN. Elvis is my sweetheart ❤️
Aim a Mexican
I love him, too. Since I was 12 in 1984. There is a magical thing in his being, Its difficult to describe. The same thing I found in Pastor Bob Joyce, look at UA-cam, for example "let my people go" exactly the same spirit.
Elvis bought a new Cadillac to a black lady who was just gazing at the Cadillac from a car dealership.
I am 83 and I am still like to listen to Elvis. ❤❤
I can't explain it. but when I watch and listen to Elvis it leaves a lump in my throat, I just wish he'd stayed around for another 30 years
I’ve learned a few of Elvis songs on guitar.
I think we all do
yup you and me boy he should stayed fot another 30 years and it is sad that he didn't.

Can we talk about the band though? This is incredible. The rhythm group. The back up singers. The orchestra. It's extraordinary
Without a doubt! He was very proud them.
Was most likely best band at the time
Very much so. And this was before synthesisers became a thing. They were masters of music.
Drummer was a’rockin!
The drummer Ronnie Tutt died a few months ago…he’s in the Rock & Roll Heaven Band know July 2022
I’m 17, and Elvis is my favourite artist. His music is timeless in my opinion.
I’m 14 and I feel the exact same way ngl
I'm 17 also, and love Elvis and his music. Greetings from an Elvis fan from Chile ❤
My 12 Y O granddaughter loves his music as well. I believe he will continue to grow his music more with more time with this younger generation. Wonderful and timeless.
Honey, i am 62, I have been an Elvis fan since i was 5. I remember watching his NBC Special in Dec of 1968 on our tv set at home. It thrills me to know that a young lady of today loves to listen to Elvis! Im proud of you dear, may you have many years of thrills yet to come!

It’s one thing to listen to Elvis. And it’s a totally different thing to watch him. He was the greatest entertainer this world has ever known.
What a cool cat. Everything you see is authentic and original, that is, no voice coach, no choreography or stage manager/trainer, no special effects or high tech. props etc. etc. He oozes charisma and stage presence that capture the audience to its core, have not seeing anyone like him ever. Definitely one of a kind!!👏
Amen, Elvis was the King 🤴, unbeatable
It was 1970’s
@@jaylenmcnairy8680 back when you needed talent to make it in music
Well said.,...some gave all......and this is one of them
He made singing well seem easy & as for his looks & charisma, well, he’s in a class all his own.
Only celebrity anywhere near as handsome since Elvis is Johnny Depp - & he’s also a lovely, funny guy that appreciates his fans more than anything…
Both gorgeous, talented men, inside & out😍
Elvis was fine as hell!!! NOBODY will EVER be able to replace him!

But it's sad that Taylor swift is taking over the next top chart with elvis song

The original by Tony Joe White is rocking. Elvis flew Tony and his wife to Vegas to watch him perform it all week
@@veilbreak5867 just gave it a listen 👌🏻
@@lukemeddemmen4576 He's got a really cool style. Tina Turner did a few of his too, and a few other bigger names covered him. But it must have been the ultimate watching Elvis perform this, and do it so much credit.
Saw Elvis at this concert when I lived in Charlotte. My wife and I saw him every chance we had till he passed August, 77. He was the King for sure!
I'm from Charlotte and I remember a radio station that was selling his hotel bedsheet 🤦♀️
I have been an Elvis fan for as long as I can remember. I am going back a long time. There were no conserts in SA but as fans we enjoyed his music and videos. He has a style all of his own and so good to see him singing with his daughter Lisa Marie.
So so jealous 🤦🏻♀️
Wow really?
How was it
2024 and this is killer ELVIS. Damn, I wish I would've been at this show! I love you ELVIS forever!!💜⚡️⚡️
Only a southern man could do this song justice. Beautiful. Love it. Lol great
In addition to his incredible raw talent, astounding unmatched musicianship...he is funny as hell. His comedy is subtle.... but it is strewn through his performances. Just pay attention! It’s a joy watching this man doing his thing...
Forreal! This is probably the first time I've watched any Elvis at all when he was in his top Vegas years (& only familiar with the later mess like everyone else unfortunately... 😔) and it's an absolute treat to watch him just kill it like this! There's absolutely no question how completely dialed-in he is towards every last music-related thing happening in his midst because that sense of completely commanding the stage comes through so loud & clear that it more or less eclipses any of the other parts of his personality you can see on display here, imo
Him shoving the mic down his throat will always be hilarious
Absolutely electric
Agree! must've had a terrific sense of humor.
That "Lord have Mercy... WOAGH" gets me every time
I’m 60 years old and I’m from Switzerland (Lucerne), I’ve been listening to Elvis since I was 10 years old, I watched Elvis' live concert in Hawaii in 1973. I appreciate many kinds of good music, I also know all the songs of Johnny Cash and June Carter (Great) and other great artists. However, Elvis remains the greatest musician and entertainer of all time, but in all his songs, all the power of his soul comes out. One could also say that he gave his whole heart to his listeners. This way is definitely unique and I think it will remain so. Denis Herger
live:.cid.846126d7c9681744
So so true. Couldn't have said it better. He always gave the fans every part of his heart and soul in his performances. And he had more talent than most could have in ten lifetimes
Elvis definitely poured his whole soul into his music. Listening to him can give you a feeling of connectedness.
2024 and Elvis still a favorite! Shame I wasn’t born til 10 yrs after he passed would of loved to seen him perform or been in those times! Greatest entertainer and simplier times lol
"The Untouchable" would have been an appropriate nickname for Elvis.
He was and still is the coolest man to walk this planet. Nothing like him before and nothing like him since
True!!!
Boooooooooooooooooooooooo 😅
yup
The Vegas Elvis was no joke, no mere caricature. This stage performance is insane!!
You got that right!!!
Absolutely nothing like it EVER since. Incredible talent.
Way ahead of his time this man. Fantastic performance and phenomenal vocals.
he was incandescent for the first run of the show. Being trapped there for five years, working nonstop... how could an artist maintain at that speed and continue to grow? It killed him... =(
Although he didn't like Vegas
This is a song that sounds like it could’ve came out in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Very timeless and fresh

Already did above!
Craziness! What I really like about this performance is what it shows us: how Elvis conducts the musicians. He was an incredibly good arranger.
I saw him 4 times in person. It’s hard to explain to the NEW ELVIS fans just how GREAT of an ENTERTAINER he was-IS. I’m 69 to ghis day NO ONE has come close to him. Unbelievable!!!
Elvis is the best entertainer that ever lived! He made you stand and listen he was that great! Entertainers today do not have the same drive he did to do and be the best at what he does ! Thanks Elvis for all the great entertainment you have given us mere mortals❤ miss seeing what you could have done had you lived longer ! Rest in Peace! We who saw you will love you forever❤❤❤

@Robin Anderson You’re being creepy.
I have come to appreciate his carisma and talent. Very good.
My mom would be your age. She was a Elvis fan like billions. I guess in my desire to rebel I rejected Elvis. But the older I get the more undeniable his genius is. And he seemed like a genuinely nice man.
Elvis was a total ball of energy. I have to agree Polk Salad Annie is a tremendous song to watch Elvis perform xx
Question how can a man who never learned to read music never wrote a song he sang but has the musical genius to put together a heart stopping show every single time? That’s how you know what ELVIS PRESLEY had was a God given gift. He felt the songs in his whole being and danced the way it made him feel. Priceless!
I think him not writing the music had a lot to do with the sincerity and excitement of the performances. He wasn't just singing; he was listening to the music with the audience and loving it just as much as they did. It made his performances joyous.
He was the greatest performer and singer I have ever heard back in 60's , 70,sand even today no one can touch him! Master of music ! 🎵❤!!!!!
I agree and he had fun doing it!
I think it had a lot to do w/ the loss of his identical twin---that haunted him his whole life, and I think he felt that somehow the specter of his twin was responsible for his inspirations and talents---he was living for both of them
I NEVER have, I never will stop listening and watching Elvis. There is no one equal to him to iste to or watch. No man on earthever looked as good as Elvis Presley. I would have paid to watch him wash his car. O, how I love this man.❤❤❤💋💋💋

Best part of Elvis performing live was how he just made it so fun and enjoyable. Even times where he screwed up the lyrics...it's the purest inside view of his fun and light-hearted personality. Where some artists would jump all over anyone who messed up, I can see Elvis poking fun after the concert. Best way to retain the respect of your musicians & backup singers. Everyone makes mistakes. It's how you make it work when it happens on stage. Definitely humanizes the guy and makes him more relatable to the average Joe.

My sister has twins, one umbilical cord and I could never tell Sean and Jeremy apart until they were teenagers and changed their hairstyles. 😀
@@jodejette He might have riveled the Jonas Brothers...lmfao. JK!...but seriously it is hard to imagine.
I will never get tired of watching this 😍 I'm 19 and proud to be an Elvis fan ⚡️
No shame in that young one.
I love this! Great to see the younger generation fall under his spell . Of all his performances this is my favourite too.
My 14 year old son is an Elvis fan and made me appreciate him more.
Any man who can sing a song about a turnip and make it groove n rock like this has earned the title the " King"
I’m also 19 and been a huge fan ever since the movie!
We will never see the likes of a Entertainer like Elvis Presley again ❤ l go to my local football stadium its half empty Elvis would have filled it a 100 times over, sadly missed God bless him and his family ❤❤
Had the weirdest dream last night. On the Stage was Elvis and Freddie Mercury having fun making great music together. The King and Queen... Both had to go to early.
Just perfection the band is glued to his every moves. The king no doubt.

I have seen this particular video, hundreds of times. For me, it is the highest level of perfection in music and entertaining I have ever seen. There is no doubt in who is the only King.
