Fun fact: when Roy Orbison came to my hometown on tour, my grandmother was young then and rushed the stage. Security caught her, and instead of kicking her out, Roy Orbison signed an autograph for her and was super nice. She still has the signed picture decades later. Thank you, Roy Orbison, for being nice to my crazy fan girl grandma. ❤️

Even though it was 100+ degrees in Austin, he wore like 6 layers of clothing, finishing with a heavy multi-colored coat. This made him smell pretty bad. Roy Orbison was truly a rare talent. His range was, and is still untouched today. It's rare to have a male vocalist hit such high notes, yet can also do wonders to the low notes. He did it with such force, such power, but the best of all, such clarity that his music will live on for thousands of years unsurpassed. What still amazes me since the first I've heard his music until today is, he did it with ease. It's incredible. His voice is unmatched even today..!!

I remember back in the late 70's the Big O came to my hometown and there was not much interest. My father was a huge fan and had tickets and asked if I wanted to go. 17 year old me laughed and said no way.
How I wish I had gone now. I bought the Black and White DVD and gave it to my father who was dieing at 65 as a parting gift. He loved it and I found a great artist who I treasure to this day.

I am 16 years old and a huge Roy Orbison fan. Never has a voice graced music like Roy Orbison, and I don't think there will ever be another close to him. He had such a unique and powerful voice that shakes your soul anytime you hear one of his songs. I hope that my generation and future generations will continue to carry on his legacy and his music, because it's musicians like Roy Orbison that stand out over anything being made today!

Maybe it's just me, but other than being a golden night of raw artists, with Roy in the middle, calmly but seriously watching everyone in the band do their thing, it just seemed as though he was a very solid centerpiece with a type of aura that cemented the whole band that night. It's like he was wearing an invisible crown, like a dad watching his children perform and keeping an eye on each one. When Roy joined the Traveling Wilbury's, I think that was a very magic moment for the group to have his talents combined with the other Royalty of music. That was a time when music was serious and involved. I lived through it; I know. Never to be repeated again.

The guitarist who added the most to this performance in his typically unassuming way was the incredibly talented James Burton. He's the one outdueling Bruce. If you know his pedigree, then you know why he is so remarkably talented as a guitarist. The former leader of Elvis Presley's band has played with just about every conceivable major Country & Rock & Roll artist. They all regard him as an icon of the guitar.

Thanks, Jack. How well I know a that. The tragedy that was Ricky Nelson. He was THE teen idol of the 1950's, and should have done much more with his music. He was just a bit too syrupy and "pretty." The country wanted something different and first got the "Bad Boy," Elvis and then The Beatles and then The Stones. Nelson was left dealing with drug addiction and a failed marriage. Burton was simply one if the best lead guitarists of that era and is still respected beyond his prime.

4.5 into 135 is less than 3%.... Some simply don't like certain players/singers such as I don't care for Barbara Strisand.... Great voice, but so what... One of my oldest brothers attended high school with Roy . And when Roy started making records. My brother gathering and playing Roy's records .when my brother entered the US Navy in 62-63 . I made it my job and pleasure to keep adding to my brothers collection. So when he got back home in 68 has was surprised to see how many Roy Orbison he then owned . So I have always been a huge fan. His unique voice and talent was not given the praise and fame I personally believe he deserved. Thank you for sharing. May he RIP and God bless and keep his family.
