I still come back to this. I remember hearing it live on triple j and how they explained they had jammed it the night before and it was 9min long. I wish they could have got the 9min version on the air. In my top 10 of the decade either way. Such a hidden gem.
Well mate..They are a ripping band, you are only scratching the surface with them in terms of amazing Aussie rock bands..A petty most Australian's wouldn't even know who they or any other of our great bands are.
oh my god, I could not agree more. after the intro of smells like teen spirit when James plays for a bit then Michael and luke come in I instantly thought of 1979
I was driving home from Jindabyne. 48°c in my VW golf with no AC. Heard the first 10 seconds and increased the volume. 2 minutes later and my fiance was blocking her ears and screaming at me to turn it down. 2 years later I'm living in Bali and this song is still giving me chills. One of the best moments of my life. I will never forget that moment. I will never forget that day. I will never forget the moment this song made me fall back in love with music!
Still in Bali mate or moved on? I’d love to open a bar in Bali or Thailand dedicated to Aussie bands, music and our culture in general. Just without the lockout laws lol
@@shanadekelly9509 mate thats a sick idea! what first got me interested in aus was all the excellent bands like violent soho, muncie girls, smith street band , stiff richards ect that you guys have produced and ive now ended up over here! 10/10 would help at that bar
My old English teacher is Luke's brother. They look alike too. I find it really funny that one of the brother's is a private school's English teacher and the other an Australian alternative rock band's lead singer. Very different personas...
Holy cow, just heard this for the first time. I am a SSP fan and VS rocks this. Amazing job, outstanding audio. I am listening through my Bose wireless sound denting noise headphones. No commercial but seriously amazing sounds. Great way to drink you morning coffee on front porch.
Best fucken Like A Version for the year by far....finally!!! This year has been shit to say the least compared to the last couple of years and Violent Soho nailed one of the best songs by one of my favourite bands ever!
Geesh this is still gotta be my favourite like a version, spewing it’s not on Spotify otherwise it’d for sure be in my top ten of the hottest of the decade. Love it what a tune
Im a big fan of The Silversun Pickups and I admit I wasn't expecting much before I heard this. I was wrong. A great cover. Pays homage to the original with enough of a spin to make it their own. Good stuff!
Their gig at Festy Hall on Halloween night was just "ace"...loved the audience singing along to "Your the Voice" and "Waltzing Matilda" before the actual gig, how amazing was hearing the whole joint singing along, gave the lads a great welcome to our city and they delivered, one of the most energetic gigs I've been too, the whole place reminded me so much of gigs back in the 90's!! Hope they come back and do it all again soon!
Was waiting for end of video to ask this. Second comment, listened from shit ear buds on shit phone. Was blown away. Crispy bass, tight drumming, loved it.
His pronunciation and his high notes are vaguely similar to Billy's. That's about it. It's the song itself... the guitar, but specifically the bass that's reminiscent of the Mellon Collie, and to an extent Siamese Dream sound.
I'm in the same boat as you, Aqualove... I write a lot of songs. Some of them are pretty heavily inspired by Violent Soho, too. I just can't find people who are super into playing in a band using music I write as the basis for what we play. Idk, man. It's hard. Just keep trying.
Violent Talent it's not only finding people but it's finding ppl with passion and consistency as well. Like are they going to turn up to band practices etc. It just seems to be luck really stumbling across good members.
Aqualove I feel you. That's basically all there is to it. Best of luck to you. Maybe someday we'll both have bands with some sick singles and albums under our belts :)
Amazing cover to one of my favorite tracks crazy that these guys are the same ones to write and play Covered in Chrome.. Viloent SoHo better be up there in R&R history.
SWEET! Nice, clean and clear vocals throughout, guitar riffs outstanding, loved the hint of distortion! Rhythm section made this song their own! Great intro too! I really got in to it! I'll probably never get to see ya'll play tho', unless ya'll tour the US, in the Deep South, specifically North Alabama!!! Easy days, mello nights!!😎😌
As far sound goes they fucking nailed that shit👌. the tone of this dude’s voice gives a smooth sound all together. best cover of I seen in a long time.
I must have watched this about a hundred times, the only thing I don't like is the fact my headphones can't go any louder, what an amazing cover by an amazing band,& the mix is so fucking perfect, absolutely beautiful 🎸👍❤️🤘
I remember it like it was yesterday... October 20th, Friday, 2016. I woke up at the crack of dawn, today was the day, like a version of the mighty Violent Soho, Brisbane's 3rd favourite foursome, of course behind State of Origin Series 2006-2009 and of course State of Origin Series 2010-2013. I threw on some boardies and my trusty Van Halen shirt that I was generously traded for my ripped Hawaiian button up mid-way through a solid 6 hour session of Karaoke at the Vic. Back when it was in the front room of course, when you weren't frowned upon for tipping one of your two glasses of sugarcane champagne all over yourself while belting out "Don't look back in anger" with a room-full of the rest of Brisbane's finest. I'm getting a bit off track here, but swear to god, I went down to Mitchelton's Blackwood street precinct, got myself a steak and mushroom pie and headed home in my falcon. I got to the driveway, chucked her in park and heard the morning duo revving up the country for this cover that you just watched. I made a split-second decision to run from the comfort of my car to the lounge room where I had the boombox waiting for me. I switched her to 107.7FM. Fuckin static. Wtf do I run back to my car? I found that antenna port on the back of the thing. I stuck the missus' cross-stitch needle into the back of it and had to hold one hand on the needle and the other on the trusty dogs eye. Luckily for me the neighbour's Jacaranda tree was in beautiful bloom, I felt like I was being pulled into Euphoria, one hand stretched out for the 3rd best Foursome in Brisbane, one for the local dogs eye. Best part was that the last swallow down of my pie timed in with the last sound of the cover. We finished together. They say it's times like these you need Minties, but speaking from experience, a Castlemaine Cranberry goes down just as well!
Seen SSPU at the Palladium in Santa Cruz last year.. Bad ass concert at a bad ass little venue... This took me back to that time. Well played Violent Soho.. Well played 🤘🏼😉
In my view this and Ball Park Music cover of Paranoid Android are the best of like a versions. Don’t think anyone else has come close. Violet Soho drummer is outstanding on this. His performance makes the song

They’ve done it with all of their Like a Version’s, it’s such a shame. They used to have a little banter between hosts and artists, an introduction to the song.
Triple j is a great source for covers. This is one of those that stands out. subtly just as good as the original. well executed but what do I know lol I just think it sounds good
Julia Jacklin's "Someday" cover set the Like A Version bar so high it's hard to appreciate other covers from Triple J now. If you haven't listened to it and you like The Strokes, look it up and be prepared to be blown away
7 years later and I will keep on coming back after ridiculous amounts of replays. Which I reckon everyone should do!!!
I still come back to this. I remember hearing it live on triple j and how they explained they had jammed it the night before and it was 9min long. I wish they could have got the 9min version on the air. In my top 10 of the decade either way. Such a hidden gem.
Agreed, I keep coming back to this too. A little gift for us from VS
4 years later and I will keep on coming back!
Silversun picks caught lightning in a bottle for one song and made something timeless that stands up with any of the greats Bravo
One of the best covers....the live engineer/producer/mixer ability to capture this in such perfect sounds 🫱🏼🫲🏼🫱🏼🫲🏼
I’ve been listening to music for my 57 years, the production here is the best I’ve ever heard.
OH MY GOD THE SOUND MIXING IN THIS IS INCREDIBLE. HOLY SHIT
I just discovered Violent Soho.....They absolutely F*kn Rock..!!!! I've been jammin out to them for several days now!! Virginia, USA
Well mate..They are a ripping band, you are only scratching the surface with them in terms of amazing Aussie rock bands..A petty most Australian's wouldn't even know who they or any other of our great bands are.
Check out the Aussie punk band the chats they are really good.
@@sklife-hb3wl a pussy is a piece of a skin wrapped in a pocket
Mate check out a few other aussie bands like the chats, sticky fingers, skegss and the DMA's!
check out dear seattle they are sad violent soho haha
It's been years and I still get the chills every time I listen to this masterpiece. Pure gold.
Just heard of this band TONIGHT and I cannot stop listening! Where tf have I been? Under a rock with Patrick star?
*SCREAMING* 6 years later and this is still so fucking smooth and good as it was when they first performed it.
Really would love to hear them cover 1979. His voice would be perfect
oh my god, I could not agree more. after the intro of smells like teen spirit when James plays for a bit then Michael and luke come in I instantly thought of 1979
What’s the point of doing a cover if it sounds the same?....
so much yessss
Covers - when done right - are a truly beautiful thing. This - Nice - but not quite there yet
Jordan Bowey not all covers need to be transformative, sometimes it’s just one band jamming a song they like
Hell Fuck Yeah!!
Violent cover Silversun. It's like a dream \o/
Diego Maraschin Mine too, nice!

The Stereo on this live track is mind blowing.
This song always gets right into my soul no matter how many times I hear it. Great cover
Totally know where you are coming from Walt.....could listen to this (or the original) ten times over and not bat an eyelid.
whoever uploaded this to youtube for me to watch a trillion times, is a bloody legend

Best like a version ever, the sound is just incredible. 4122 forever!
What does 4122 mean I've never known
6 years on and still the #1 LAV for me! ❤️✌🏻
James's face is priceless after they finish. Makes my day. I can never tire of this vid. I hope Soho isnt a thing of the past. We need new material
Candy Tocchini check out their insta, it’s coming 🙌
'Oh we didnt come up with a clue, oh well, whatever, nevermind! Then the lil teaser intro.. fully got me!!

Literally
Why am just now hearing this brilliance?! I'm blown the (bleep) away!! Bravo gentlemen!!
the drumming did it for me. fantastic cover
He's going off! great musicians all of them
Johnny12Hats me too bro. I've always said, you should treat your drums like ur wife/gf and beat the shit out of them hahaha
The crash isn't high enough height wise but otherwise it's great
SSPU have a totally awesome drummer. he goes mental. check out some of their stuff.
I swear that crash is like 10 feet off the ground!
I loved the little tease of "Smells like teen spirit" by Nirvana at the start before continuing to play "Lazy Eye" by Silversun Pickups.
Great commentary by The Great Sloth Lord
+Alleyne Aviles Thank you very much, I love your profile picture, by the way. It looks really awesome.
Hell Fuck Yeah!!!
haha classic
it was actually Rape Me i think
Smells Like Lazy Eye
Drew Waterbury can confirm. I like it. I’m 45.
these boys sound C R I S P Y ✨the tone of the lead guitar shines through and is absolute perfection 👌
...still my absolute favorite song in 2022
2023 for me, always gonna be
I still remember seeing the music video on Steven's Untitled Rock Show on Fuse at like 7 AM while getting ready for school
This song fills the area inside my ear phones like no other. Thank you Brisbane 😃👍🏖☀️🇦🇺
i just cant get a day without listening to this for about a year now, perfect cover of a perfect song. VS is brilliant!
2020 and still my favourite like a version !🤘
My old English teacher is Luke's brother. They look alike too. I find it really funny that one of the brother's is a private school's English teacher and the other an Australian alternative rock band's lead singer. Very different personas...
TOY0BOY0 I used to live with a guy in Brissy that was the vocalist of a punk band, community cervix, on weekdays he taught year 4 😀
TOY0BOY0 which luke
Luke Boerdam(Unsure of spelling. our teacher was fine with Mr Boredom)
Really funny considering Luke's unbearable accent. Can't believe a relative is an English teacher ;)
You havent seen a Rural english teacher then
Luke's bass sounds SO good
joshDsho as soon as he came in that was all I could think.
I definitely agree, it sounds so damn good especially on surround sound earphones.
it all sounds good, these guys are definitely quality.
i listened first without my headphones and as soon as i heard the bass i had to grab my big headphones, amazing!
Haha yeah thanks dude

2022 and I'm still coming back to bask in this LAV beauty
them goosebumps at 3:17... Love this band. Hope to see them one day.
Guy started singing and I felt like I got slapped in the face by The Smashing Pumpkins.
Same here :)
His pronunciation and his high notes are vaguely similar to Billy's. That's about it. It's the song itself... the guitar, but specifically the bass that's reminiscent of the Mellon Collie, and to an extent Siamese Dream sound.
Grumble The original sounds like Smashing Pumpkins.
coriganish kinda vibe, totally
Silversun Pickups have often been compared to the Smashing Pumpkins, so that may be why, even if this is just a cover.
This is superb. Utterly superb. Great band.
They should release this cover on ALL platforms please
ahh yeah. so darn solid..love coming back to this song...
The recording and mixing on this absolutely blow my mind
Love the guitar and bass. Gosh makes me want to be in a band so much.

Unbelievable cover. You could say the vocals alone change the entire genre of the song. Very promising band!
I've been waitinng... for a cover like this alllllll myyy lifffee...
One of the greatest drum tributes ever played
God damn these dudes fucking KILLED IT. What an experience.
Best grunge band since the 90s

This is the most buttery smooth cover ever omg
Many violent soho . Such rock and roll .
Yess...
Accidentally found the SSP oeiginal about a year ago. You guys did a great job. Thanks.
Reminds me a lot of OK Cathedral. Both beautiful songs, and awesome performance and awesome sound recording ♥
yeah miss the live performances, got back to the yard and heard this was the cover ,such a good song ,thought they might punk it up ,but great job

The most queensland thing ever written.
Weed's a hell of a drug
Now this is culture.
Bro you're telling me Brisbanes most beloved band is a bunch of drug addicts? Australia needs to clean up their act if they want to be taken serious
Seen SSPU at the Palladium in Santa Cruz last year.. Bad ass concert at a bad ass little venue... This took me back to that time. Well played Violent Soho.. Well played 🤘🏼😉
Great cover, love love love the Silversun Pickups.
damn my fav band covering my fav song
The mixing is indeed stellar
oh what a cheeky opening tune, love it
yet another outstanding performance....Lovin this sooo much!!!!!
I am absolutely not anywhere close to an audiophile, and I can tell the recording was done amazingly well 👌
@2.09 gives me chills every time. So good.

Honestly, this is so fucking awesome. Their energy matches the song so damn well, such a savage cover. Props!
Whenever you hear Luke Boerdam’s voice, you know it’s gonna be good.
Great songs from triple J recently. I always loved this tune.
I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment all my life
But it's not quite right
And this real
It's impossible if possible
At whose blind word
So clear but so unheard
I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this silence all night long
It's just a matter of time
To appear sad
With the same old decent lazy eye
Fixed to rest on you
Aim free and so untrue
Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone's so focused clearly with such shine
Everyone's so intimately rearranged
Everyone's so focused clearly with such shine
Lost and loaded
Still the same old decent lazy eye
Straight through your gaze
That's why I said I relate
I said we relate
It's so fun to relate
It's the room, the sun, and the sky
The room, the sun, and the sky
I've been waiting
I've been waiting for this moment
Why the re-upload with the first bit cut out?
what was the first part that was cut, please share?
They’ve done it with all of their Like a Version’s, it’s such a shame. They used to have a little banter between hosts and artists, an introduction to the song.
Can we add this to spotify please?
Triple j is a great source for covers. This is one of those that stands out. subtly just as good as the original. well executed but what do I know lol I just think it sounds good

Waiting..... waiting for the spotify version, all night long
Really awesome job guys. Great version!
These guys really rocked this one, awesome cover.
