It certainly gives the lyrics more breathe within the song's structure leaving it with a more pensive feel. But it does take away from the erratic feeling the original song's tonal story delivered. Which kind of changes its message/point.
After hearing Hannah's vocals at the beginning, I noticed that her and Christian actually switch places on the high part during the Spiderhead cover at some parts. They have incredibly similar sounding voices when he goes falsetto: he's got a great handle on his voice in the high range like she has a handle on hers in the low, and that's what so amazing in this video. The ranges are both on display here in all their glory. Thank you putting up both pieces of this!
I like how it's the same lyrics and story, but by just the way the song is played gives a completely different vibe to it. CTE is energy filled and makes you want to scream along with a "fuck it" vibe. GL's is like a romantic "why oh why" vibe.
if you guys haven't yet check out the longer version of this vid where they play ways to go but johnny cash style. and she kills the johnny cash voice!!!!
As I am more of a fan of Cage The Elephant and listen to their music more often than Grouplove, it was extremely strange and weird listening to this in the beginning but I loved the way they integrated the key pieces from the song into their cover. Truly beautiful and gives me a whole different perspective onto the song especially since I saw Cage The Elephant perform this live. :)
As a Grouplove fan, I find all their covers awesome, you listen to it and you know it's Grouplove, a lot of people who don't like the covers can only hear the original song which is usually very contrasting so they don't like change, but that's the whole point of a cover, it would be stupid if Grouplove tried to make it sound like CTE because they aren't CTE, they're Grouplove! And that's what this song sounds like through and through and it's awesome!
The most interesting covers are the ones who give it different emotional impacts from the originals, or the ones that bring it up the the logical extreme (see the Disturb version of sound of silence
What an ear for sound, anyone can copy a cover. To change the vibe, put your heart into it and use simplicity is exactly how you want to make a song explode in a different way. Amazing Hannah always sounds beautiful
I keep coming back to this cover over and over again, I ADORE THIS LIKE A VERSION Grouplove took the CageTheElephant awesomeness and made it mellow..... kick ass!!!!!
Wow, I was already a fan of this song from CTE s fantastically eccentric album "Melophobia" -- but I am blown away by this cover from Grouplove - it is so beautiful and the best cover of anything I have heard in a long while.
How does that chicks voice go so low.. Edit: I forgot I commented this 3 years ago and now 1.8k likes. Lol. I guess I should mention that I love group love and think the range is quite impressive, but I still don’t understand how her voice can hit those lows.
cte is my all time favourite band, and i usually hate it when I hear a different version from a song I like, but I love this. I would love to her the female vocalist with a cte song
my dad has always liked cage the elephant. there fore I did too. one day he played this cover in the truck and it made me apprieciate the lyrics so much I had tears in my eyes. this cover is so beautiful.
Clear and beatiful how an artist enhances the other's songs by making sincere and authentic renditions . Both are incredibly benefited as well as the fortunate listeners so to say. holy cheers
These are my two favorite bands and even though their styles are completely different, I thoroughly enjoyed this cover. They're both so talented and bring so much energy at live shows!
that woman has absolutely amazing range
She just riffing
Her name is hannah
Lol it’s called equipment but nonetheless yes she does👍
this version makes me appreciate the lyrics a lot more. Such a beautiful song
agree :)
sounds like modest mouse
alanmendezca sounds like band of horses to me
It certainly gives the lyrics more breathe within the song's structure leaving it with a more pensive feel. But it does take away from the erratic feeling the original song's tonal story delivered. Which kind of changes its message/point.
A lot f their songs have pretty deep and beautiful lyrics, it's just overlooked cause Matt's normally going absolutely insane haha

Actually the drummer was the lower register towards the end, there.
They are amazing.
Christian was her unofficial voice coach when the band first got together. He helped improve her harmonizing.
why is this not on spotify, i just love thid cover soooo much!
One of the best triple j covers. Not often that a cover outshines the original
I like how it's the same lyrics and story, but by just the way the song is played gives a completely different vibe to it.
CTE is energy filled and makes you want to scream along with a "fuck it" vibe. GL's is like a romantic "why oh why" vibe.
Just hearing this for the first time today but this is an absolutely perfect description! Same lyrics completely different emotions. Amazing cover!

this is a fabulous cover of the song
They need to do a cover of the song Useless. Its by a band from Phoenix, Arizona and the band is called Anarbor
For some reason I REALLY loved the 'parody' cover of ways to go in the beginning.
+S. Stevens Wish they did more like that. I keep listening to that few seconds.
Exactly! The whole point of a cover is to make it your own.

really cool !

Why was the intro cut? I enjoyed the quick Johnny Cash cover.
What an ear for sound, anyone can copy a cover. To change the vibe, put your heart into it and use simplicity is exactly how you want to make a song explode in a different way. Amazing Hannah always sounds beautiful

This is the best "like a version" because this band actually enjoyed covering the song.
Wow, I was already a fan of this song from CTE s fantastically eccentric album "Melophobia" -- but I am blown away by this cover from Grouplove - it is so beautiful and the best cover of anything I have heard in a long while.

How does that chicks voice go so low..

Noah Bailey vocal raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaange
Noah Bailey First thought it was a trap :0
This will always be my favorite cover on triple j. First time I heard of grouplove and cage the elephant and am a fan ever since.
Grouplove knows how to bring a whole new atmosphere to music.
It’s amazing how a different tune can make the lyrics seem so impactful
this is amazing. they put the song to their own sound and it worked perfectly. great job grouplove
This is brilliant. Hannah's vocal range = amazing.
I really like both versions a lot.
I still come back and watch this all the time❤

This never gets old, love it 👍👏🙏
Oh my god that is the perfect Jazz bass tone, floaty bassline with much sustain, high midrange, and just a touch of gain. That is beautiful
I like the way Grouplove always givesa their own twist to the covers they do
Wow, this is the greatest song I have discovered this year. Amazing!
I'm in love with this cover. And I wanted their Johnny Cash thing to go on longer XD

Clear and beatiful how an artist enhances the other's songs by making sincere and authentic renditions . Both are incredibly benefited as well as the fortunate listeners so to say.
