Check out Disturbed!
You should check out Scars on Broadway, it's a band by one of the members of SOAD. Also, Serj Tankian' solo stuff, he's the lead vocal on SOAD.
Check out their song "Prison Song"
As per always, amazing video. Weekly request for Protest The Hero- Underbite. I truly think you'll love it.
Underground (no radio play here) metal! In Flames Where Dead Ships Dwell or Ropes- it's their newer stuff. I've been listening to them since 94'!
An Aerial is an acrobatic move. While watching something mesmerizing, our minds lose all of our built up biases and filters, which usually keep us small minded in our day to day life.
He is basically saying, lose your small minded thinking. With an open mind, you'll free your life..
Mesmerise by SOAD is also mesmerising
Aerial means of the air. As in operating, happening, or simply existing in the air makes something aerial
@@justdave9610 perhaps in the distant future of whatever comes after neuralink we’ll all be in ‘the cloud’ of Ariel existence.
Let’s leave that up to the sci fi authors for now though 😎
@@darylingoteborg3178 if you left it up to fantasy authors instead then Aerial might end up being a princess mermaid living under the sea instead
@@justdave9610 That is the definition when it is used as an adjective, but adjectives alone can't be used as a sentence's subject. With the letter "s" used at the end of the word making it plural, Aerial(Aerials), it can only take the definition of its noun form. Adjectives do not have singular or plural forms and never get an "s" at the end.
It is a preposition of location(stating something is somewhere). "Aerials" is a plural noun and the subject of the sentence. "In" is the preposition(in this case, expressing relation to the place) and "the sky" is the place. Circus Acrobats are performing "aerials in the sky/so up high..."
For even more context, the beginning of the video shows a circus tent, which is a place where acrobats perform.
You must do more system of a down your breakdowns are perfect
BYOB by SOAD! You must do this one!!
@@AnAccount you should have just commented that by itself.
Your question about the music, aparently Malakian was asked in a Variety interview about the instruments used. "There is a mandolin, there was some banjo and there was an actual sitar on “Aerials.” I had never played one before so I kind of winged it." -Malakian
Thought it was a sitar, but I hear the mandolin now too!
Yea sounded like sitar but was confused if it was any other similar sounding instrument
My friend did that. Lol. He's such a bro, but he's also an unexpected musical prodigy. 😆 threw me off.
I knew he was gifted, but years ago i finally understood when he unpacked the fresh sitar he'd just gotten and had never played before, and plucked out something badass in 30 seconds.
I've heard him play music for years now. Has his own thing going. It still baffles me, though. Lol
If you look at the album credits it shows that he is playing the sitar on most of this album. It gives the sound more of an eastern, or more ethnic feel. Along with the vocals you definitely hear the Armenian influence mixed with the western rock , and metal infusion. When they debut, they literally sounded like no one else.
That line, "Always want to play, but you never want to lose," strikes me as a reminder that every life ends in death, but not in a bad way? Some people refuse to really accept that, they want to live but they never want to die, and instead of appreciating the time they have they live their lives in fear of losing it
It's a pretty beautiful line
to think Metal is so misunderstood, but when someone comes in with an open mind, they find themselves enthralled, enamored, and wanting more. with so many sub-genres and styles, Metal has something for everybody, they need only to seek it out.
This band is one that honestly doesn't have a bad song. Album to album, they consistently put out great songs. Their more recent song "Genocidal Humanoidz" is fantastic
Love your take on this!!! A lot of SOAD’s music is rooted in existential/religious themes. I’m sure other commenters have pointed out the bands Armenian heritage. That heritage plays a massive role in their music. Both sonically and thematically. Great band.
Keep ‘em coming!
Cheers
Serj Tankien has a really amazing voice. His first Solo Album is fantastic.
So many good ones from SOAD to dive into. I always recommend P.L.U.C.K or Holy Mountains, as the message of those songs are a big part of who System is and what they've tried to bring recognition to over the years (the Armenian Genocide).
Holy Mountains needs far far more people reacting to it. SOAD fans know of it as a masterpiece, while nobody else knows it exists, it's sad. I guess in a way.. it's poetic and represents the contents of the song..
fr pluck is one of my favorites
YES! I love both of those songs, I don't see either of these suggestions very often.
Absolutely
"...one again after the fall"
To me, that also spoke to people coming together after chaos, war and tragedy. We commune after the churn breaks us apart.
❤
Dude Knox, you need to do Avenged Sevenfold. They have some great music. Beast and the Harlot, Nightmare, Shepard of Fire, and so many more
Yes do these from a7x
How do you get a comment highlighted
Stuff from the Stage would be good for analysis
Afterlife or Brompton Cocktail 💯
The 3 I'd request the most: Second Heartbeat, Save Me and Buried Alive!
Oh and of course Unholy Confessions
Just do every system of a down song at this point, 99% of them are amazing❤
100%*
Stop hating on Arto. 100% of systems songs are amazing
Knox… QUESTION by SOAD
I can’t wait to see your reaction and analysis, that song is a banger, please do that one!!
Amazing song. Blew my head off first time I listened
I hope he reacts to Question. One of favorites by SOAD
I love how this band has only two kinds of songs: super deep and meaningful ones like this and B.Y.O.B., but also stuff like Vicinity of Obcenity and Bounce... that are also deep when you actually read into the lyrics, but not as obviously as the other ones.
Been a long time follower of this channel and I LOVE this SOAD breakdown. 🔥
You’ve NEVER HEARD AERIALS?!?!
😂😂😂
A lot of people grow up not listening to a certain genre
Hello I am here as a representative of the Church of Sabaton here's a spread the message of War history iconic soldiers and iconic battles ranging from a ton of different areas in history my recommendation for a new convert would be Red Baron Stormtroopers or soldier of Heaven all from the Same album to my recollection please to Anyone who reads this comment check them out if what I said was appealing and welcome to the Church of Sabaton
It’s actually impossible.
The instrument may be a Sitar a very popular instrument on China / Japan
That sound you're asking about is called a sitar. A traditional Middle Eastern string instrument
Deer dance by SOAD is great.
Or Jet Pilot
Or lost in Hollywood, and Ddevil
Life is a waterfall which absolves us of the tears wracked by the loss of life.
“Life is the coping is loss”
The string instrument sounds like a sitar (common in India).
Something like that, yeah. They're Armenian, so I've always figured it's probably an indigenous instrument that's a close cousin.
Man, you're the goat! I asked you last time to react to this song, and here we go! Thank you very much!
You should definitely do their song Spiders. That song has so much to say. The video is next level too.
Your breakdown of any metal is second to none.keep rocking out. Hope you and your family had a great holiday.
when you were referring to the arpeggio'ing of his voice, I believe its referred to as vibrato, of which his natural vibrato is mesmerizing yes
I love your metal reactions. Please keep these going!
I just had to drop a comment and say that your breakdowns are so damn good, easily best channel for breakdowns. Keep doing your thing, Knox! Would love to see some Breaking Benjamin reactions, Angels fall, Evil angel and Breath are 3 great songs from them!!
This song takes me back. I recommend Passenger by Deftones, I think you’ll enjoy that one
Classic!
Love watching you react to the stuff I grew up with. I get to experience the music again for the first time vicariously through you. Someone in the comments already recommended avenged sevenfold, which I second. A good start off song for them would be “after life.” Whatever you do, wait until you’re familiar with him before you do “a little piece of heaven,” no matter what anyone else says.
Man, turns out i didn't listen to most of the SOAD songs in years. Just saw your reaction recommended and decided to listen how you would like the group... Apparently i've never heard them after learning English, lol. As a teenager i just liked how they sound. This particular song brought me back to the time when i had no PC or any gaming console, but was very much into gaming. I was so much into it in fact, that i've not only endlessly annoyed anybody with gaming system with my constant visits to them with the intention to just sit at their place and play games for hours, but i also spent nights watching that weird TV channel that was rolling gamplay montages all night. One of the friquently played montages was cs 1.6 or css gameplay with this song played over it.
P.S. sorry my English, and sorry for a bit of a blog i got here😁. Just a strange memory that hit me in the face.
Man keep it up such an open guy about all forms of music. Much love knox
You just randomly popped up in my recommendations and this was fantastic. New sub.
"loose ourselves, but we find it all"
to my interpretation has always meant loosing that childhood innocence and chasing materialism and overall pointless things as we get older that don't give true fulfilment opposed to family, friends, and experiences.
The instrument in question at the end is a sitar.
Good reaction. Keep diving down the rabbit hole. Much more good metal music out there. Sub up people. Much love Knox
It is almost like the old proverb " unlearn what you know and your mind can be free"
I really love your analysis of lyrics. And there are so many bands out there worth listening to ( and not just for one song, but for many many of their songs). Yet I‘d really be interested in your reaction to songs from Arch Enemy or the early Guano Apes. But Arch Enemy really is quite hard to listen to, if you are not used to growling - though they have a „front woman“
This metal mondays series made me subscribe, love it!
something that i would recommend listening to would be any song off of Shinedown's Planet Zero album (or all of them)
Yes! 100% agree with u. Shinedown is amazing and we need a Knox react to them!
Knox, SOAD is amazing!!!! You should check out Shimmy, Sugar.. I think you'd love Rage against the Machine.. I've seen all of these bands in concert, I'm a Rager and a metal head, when I'm not thrashing out I'm a BTS Army
K but why are you sooo good at this!? Best reactions.
Please listen to cemetery gates by Pantera, it is such a fantastic song based on the feeling of losing someone close.
I wish I could like more then once the ending is metal as hell hands down my favorite!!!!
Love this reaction brother 👊🏻 ❤ Merry Christmas my friend !
Loving the new content
Although Daron Malakian said in some shows that “Aerials” doesn’t mean anything, the overall theme of the song is our mistaken views of ourselves as being individual and isolated from the rest and how we actually are a tiny part of something greater, from which we come when we are born, and to which we go when we die.
You ought to check out Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope (Live in Colorado 2016). Six of the most incredible musicians you'll ever lay eyes on. Clean singing, harsh vocals, a violin, insane drummer, bassist, two amazing guitar players. Magic made into sound.
Love love love this song 😍🔥🔥🔥
Loving your System of a Down vids! Fuck yeah!
Mr Knox Hill on top of that SOAD reaction.. U a legend bra. Keep it up, SOAD was of my favorite artists back wen I was discovering myself. U artist to the core sir
"We are the ones that want to choose, always want to play but you never want to lose"
I think that's a reference of not accepting death as a part of life. We always want to have fun and have great moments in the life, but at the same time trying our best to avoid death even tho it is part of life too. Losing is a part of game, someone has to lose for you to win. Such as the cycle of life.
Really enjoying metal Mondays
6:57 Is my favorite Ariels in the song because he has to shout above the instruments playing loudly. My Fav SOTD song by far
You must do B.Y.O.B by System of a Down. That's good song
This is Avinash and Nirvana from Trinidad and Tobago wanna say that you are amazing we love your reactions long live Knox Hill🎉
You could react to Five Finger Death Punch: Wrong Side of Heaven. Watch the video along with it too. It's a pretty powerful song. Gone Away by FFDP is a powerful one too. It's a cover though, but the video is great.
I believe the instrument that you hear at the end is a sitar, Indian/Central Asian origins, it’s like a guitar but also very different with the shape, amount of strings, the notes that those strings play and also that distinct sound of airy, legato notes. It’s a very unique, difficult but also interesting instrument, George Harrison of the Beatles would actually play some of it on some songs like “Love you too and Long, Long, Long.” Hope this helped!
I was looking for this comment- I am not a musician but I took a couple of theory courses. I hear a sitar when he questions it just after 8:23. I would like to be corrected by someone who knows what they are talking about ;-)
One of the instruments you were talking about is a Sitar. A traditional Hidi/Indian stand up guitar.
Please do disturbed next!
Still catching up. I'll be here nightly for a while. This old cat lady loves her metal!
great reaction. like the in depth analysis too.
Hi Knox
I would like to make a sugestion for another Metal Monday. The Most lyrical and metaphorical band that i know is definitly Nightwish. To getting to know them you should check out "Ghost Love Score" from 2013 at Wacken
Greetings from Germany
My forth favorite system of a down song absolutely beautiful just like your breakdown.
Love to see "buried alive" by avenged sevenfold
Goosebumps knox ^_^
You should do Nine Inch Nails Hurt followed immediately after with Johnny Cash version of Hurt.
Knox you a legend!! Can you do breakdown of sanity chapters✌️
SOAD can make songs like Aerials, with so much depth and harmony- and then hit you in the face with songs like Vicinity of Obscenity (in which at least half the lyrics are BANANA BANANA BANANA BANANA TERRACOTTA BANANA TERRACOTTA TERRACOTTA PIE) and ☆no one☆ is complaining because they both sound great😂
It's still one of my favorite band!
Another band that is worth checking out, especially if you like SOAD, is Avatar (swedish metal band) - A Secret Door, Smells Like A Freakshow, Hail the Apocalypse are great starters (some are heavy though, but nothing you couldn't handle..I think)
They're also awesome live (Regret//House of eternal hunt-live from Avatar ages & Let it Burn are the first that popped in my mind)
Enjoy :)
No sabía que el pongamoslo a prueba hacia reacciones 😮
This takes me back to 2000-2001 being in middle school. As far as Nu Metal bands they came out swinging. Everyone knew who they were then. Their sounds was like nothing before. Just like Linkin park at that time....Korn & Limp Bizkit where big then too.
Anyways 9/11 fucked up a lot for that band... as the lead singer is middle eastern. They got so much hate mail during that time & death threats. Super sad. Anyways that's a band that had so much talent/ a unique sound and changed the rock game at that time.
Don’t forget tool in that era also.
Coming off pearl jam and nirvana it was quite the transition
Jinjer Pisces. Metal, double entendres and one hell of a surprise. Reactor such as yourself’s dream.
Your reactions to SOAD are priceless to me. Ty
I believe that's a sitar that you hear. Basically, a Middle Eastern guitar. Think of the intro from Metallica's "Wherever I May Roam".
It was sitar which was being played along with guitar
8:27 The instrument you're hearing is a sitar, which implies a connection to eastern spiritualism to interpret the lyrics.
Question! or Bounce next, they're really bizarre but very good.
The lead singer of the band THE PRODIGY from the UK Keith Flint took his own life they played This sing at his funeral because it was Keith’s fav song!
That's so sad 😢
@@SlamboHamburg ua-cam.com/video/X-zOTR0jZYo/v-deo.html
Would love your reaction to I Prevail with "Bow Down"!
From the Arabic name of the second brightest star in the sky, known in the western world as Canopus = Aerial .... I love Arabic
Amazing song
React to choke on the ashes of your hate by machine head, you would love its music and meaning.
Another haunting song by SOAD is probably Holy Mountains (which I HIGHLY recommend checking out!)
Please do Faith No More "Epic" if you haven't heard it. The singer does a little rap rock fusion and it's awesome!
Or, to add to your 'free your eyes' take, it's referring to the loss of light in your eyes when you die. Also I recommend Gate 21 by serj tankian on his solo stuff
You should really check out Nightwish. Start with Romanticide live from Wacken 2013.
Would love to see you do lonely day
You should cover System of a Down's other (albeit less popular) albums/songs! Their albums include:
1. Self Titled
2. Toxicity
3. Steal This Album
4. Mezmerize
5. Hypnotize
forest from system of a down is my favorite, i think it would be a really good song for you to react to.
Love this song
You can't just to these on Mondays PLEASE make a seperate channel with just rock/metal reactions
Plz
I believe the instrument you are hearing at the end is a sitar
Would love to hear your take on Metallica's "Halo on Fire", even with the video.
Great reaction as always.
Much agreed with Avenged Sevenfold! Knox, you did it again, thank you man. "Solway Firth" by Slipknot, no explanation needed, just check it out and you'll see
Thanks !!! from Germany
Knox I beg you react to Avenged Sevenfold some of the best most underrated music out there. Afterlife, Nightmare, The Wicked End and Save Me are all top tier songs
again, i am a huge fan of SOD and their stance against the "haves" and pro the "have nots" , so i have followed interviews and other what nots that pertains to them well over a decade now. And I have learned their metaphorical meaning to Aerials is used as a verb for twists and turns... later i accidentally discovered that in sports such as skiing and surfing, the term "aerials" means a twist or turn that you make while you are up in the air after jumping,....things that make ya go , hmmm.
The song itself is saying ..in the end we will all be okay... dispite the actual reality of the things that go on in the world, murders, rapes, death, it can really bring you down if you acknowledge them. Another thing about a waterfall is that it never exists on its own, it always has a source, like a river or a stream. So if a waterfall is the acknowledgement of the terrible things in the world and letting it bring you down, what could the river be? The time before you realize what goes on in the world, often times this is your childhood. So when we’re one in the river, and we’re one again after the fall...so yeah, chill, it's all good. Peace, kiddies
I feel like you really enjoy listening to them so maybe check out "Chop Suey". The song originally was supposed to be called Sucide but the studio didn't agree.
he did it, it's in his channel
They are singing about Hollywood and the darkness of the industry
Love people keep talking about System of a Down, specially of Aerials and Toxicity👌🏻
The instrument you’re hearing in the background near the end is a Sitar
That instrument at the end was a Sitar.
