But I was assllleeeeeepp for the livechat ToT dirty move Teddy ! xD kidding I'm happy you did this long reaction and I'm about to watch it. EDIT : Okay I left about 6 comments, now I'm serving you TED xD time to go thanks a loooott for the reaction.
you really should look at what Serj have done solo after SOAD... it's amazing.. the tracks I'd recommend: the first above all is "goodbye gate 21" with Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine guitarist), then "borders are"/"sky is over"/ "lie lie lie"/ "empty walls"/ and so much more... Thx for the videos !
He's Armenian, he's practiced in that middle eastern throat singing, Arabic maqam, so he sings his words with that yodeling or a hum. Thats the unique two-tone texture.
This band is unique, i'm from Argentina and I was lucky enough to see them live here, they played like 25 songs and it felt like 10 seconds, i was so lucky.. i remember, It was Shavo's birthday, we sing happy birthday to him and suddenly Daron said "look at the moon!" , the moon was completely full, it was the biggest moon I had ever seen in my life. That night was magic!
I spent 700 2 tickets 500 round trip air from sanantonio to lasvegas another 500 on hotel to see them play .Worth every penny. They played 30 songs ,it was a religious experience for me i sang danced ilaughed and cried so happy feeling alive that i saw them live
Dude...this was probably the single most entertaining reaction to SOAD, and you get the band so well. They are a prefect example of how good "so weird" can be.
You're absolutely right!! SOAD is a sound to call their own and it's amazing and brilliant!! I've seen them in concert and I'll always be extremely grateful!!
Nu-metal is an interesting genre because it’s more or less protest music and each band has its own sound and set of ideas that they want to share with their audience. For example the members of SOAD are extremely humanitarian, anti-war, and against governments having a lot of control over people (because the members are descendants of survivors from the Arminian genocide), which is reflected in their songs While Slipknot tends to focus on stuff like mental health, freedom of artistic expression, and the issues of social isolation because they want to make a place for people who’ve been rejected Korn often discusses the physical and psychological effects of abuse because the lead singer is a male survivor of csa and he wants to share his struggles so others don’t feel alone Rage Against The Machine focuses on the Black American experience, the generational trauma of systemic and government supported racism, and how black people are allowed to be upset about it All different, but all great bands that have important issues they are passionate about
It can be quite stupid when rock musicians begin to imagine themselves as understanding politics and make various loud statements to the general public. Things turned out very badly with Armenia just for a few days. A few years ago, they walked the streets, shouted all sorts of slogans, and eventually overthrew one government and installed another, which turned out to be no less thieves and corrupt officials, but even greater. As it has been going on there for centuries, where clans and families are strong. And as a result of all this, Armenia recently lost Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) to Azerbaijan. And these street protests and unrest began several years ago precisely with populist slogans that they would now overthrow “bad” politicians and install “good” ones in their place. Serj Tankian played an important role in this whole movement. But it is unlikely that today he will come out to the Armenians in Armenia and say, sorry, I was wrong.
I think you summarized it very well. I listen to Nu Metal since my early teens (like lots of others here) and I think the issues they addressed spoke to many people which is why they saved lots of troubled souls. I‘m very thankful to all these bands.
22:53 To give more context to BYOB the meaning of the song is Bring your own Bombs to play on the acronym Bring your own bottle to a party. The band made the song to protest the Iraq war which was in its second year at this point the & also the United States media's poor coverage of the ongoing war and rather talked about party and frat culture that was at its peak in the mid-2000s. And of course, the actions of government sending the poor to die in wars that they caused or Wars that no person from a lower class family should be involved in
@12:48 "he's singing about being lonely but he's got this music to accompany him. i find solace in that" WINNER OF MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I'VE HEARD THIS YEAR AWESOME
Delve into Ravi Shankar. Find his performance on the Dick Cavett show 1971 with George Harrison. Nora Jones not withstanding, his other daughter and extended family are equally accomplish.
It’s very cool that you try to understand the composition, look for meaning in the music, in the words, in the picture, and do it with your soul. Huge like.
I'm listening to their music for almost 20 years now and I still get goosebumps everytime^^ there's just something powerful about the combination of their characteristic sound, Serj's voice and those deep, meaningful lyrics
brother your genuine reaction to BYOB being so manic and hype is so awesome. Ariels came out when i was 10 and BYOB came out when i was 16. These songs obviously still go hard today, but the effect they have on teenage hormones is absolutely insane. Absolute rager energy lmao.
Bro brought me back to my highschool days when these albums were coming out. Getting stoned and drinking red bull while listening to this was peak 2000s. Fuck yea. Good times.
You are by far my fav reactor; especially to SOAD. It’s like watching me by watching you. If we were roommates,we’d never get anything done. I can move in as soon as possible mate!
I never saw someone so hyped while listenning to B.Y.O.B. Given that it's my favorite band, seeing such pure excitement and joy about S.o.a.d just made my evening. You really convey your good vibes through your video and that's awesome bro. Thank you❤
I'm watching this right now...I'm on B.Y.O.B and I'm dying.😅 I love your reactions and that you genuinely feel this shit. Rock & metal combines so much & tugs at every emotion. Definitely go to a show. It makes it even better.
Seeing your reaction to BYOB is exactly why i watch reaction videos. Your mind getting blown with every tempo and phrase change is exactly how i felt hearing it for the first time, and i love seeing other people go through that emotional and mental rollercoaster. These guys are masters at it. With your love of rap you ought to check out Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade.
Aerials has some great lines in it, the song title refers to aerialists (acrobats, part of the circus motif in the video) and the freedom they have, "life is a waterfall, we're one in the river and one again after the fall" can be taken as essentially saying that we're all made of the same stuff, we all come from the same place, we get this brief life as individuals like water forming droplets as it falls, but we all ultimately go back to the same place in the end, "we drink from the river then we turn around and put up our walls" could be taken as either the greedy partitioning of natural resources (we drink from the river then put up a wall to keep others from it even though we didn't make the river so shouldn't really belong to anyone) or of the needless divisions we put up between ourselves, and "when you lose small mind you free your life" is probably a call to live honestly and opening, when you remain small-minded you miss out on so much that the world has to offer. Overall the video seems to be about a child who was part of a circus, is discovered and made famous, but is ultimately unhappy with the fame and fortune and wishes to return to their old life, chasing money and fame has brought them stress, chaos, and expectations, it is the aerialists who are truly free still doing what the enjoy. Also you were spot on with the sacred silence.
I think aerials refers to antennae....broadcasting small minded peoples way of life through advertising. If you open your mind you will be free of this herd mentality
Life and the rat race are the circus. We dream of these lofty goals, aerials in the sky. The kid is like a musician or performer who is showered with money and beautiful women but keotbapart and feels separate and alien. But we are all the same, open your mind to see that and you'll free yourself, your life. And when you free your life, it's the eternal prize
Yup yup yup also you can see in the end of the first verse - that the aeralists dont get a catch and a girl is about to fall... amazingly pictured video, deep meaning, beautiful harmonies of voices and instruments. Pure gold
Interesting, I always thought Aerials referred to people hanging on to successful people. You see that a bit with the kid in the video. ‘When you lose small mind you free your life’ could be a line of getting rid of those small mind users/hanger ons, and doing things for yourself, etc. Multi-layered metaphors! Great story telling.
NOW, somewhere between the sacred silence and sleep. You are spot on mate, it's life, it's now. It's the gap between void and more void, it is all our waking hours. You? what do you own the world? how do you own disorder? - how can any of us claim ownership of this brief flash of cohabited chaos? The whole Toxicity album deserves to always be listened to in full in sequence. It's a masterpiece. Also, these songs are among the LEAST unhinged of theirs. SOAD lyrics tend towards absurdity and the abstract. They don't tell you a story as much as the evoke it.
It's so nice to see you go on this journey and saying you've never given metal and rock a chance then full on getting into every single song and finding a new world in it ..🌎❤ it's kinda beautiful
I was in a theater class in high school (probably 2003) and we had an assignment to pick a song and act it out for the class without any words or props. Some kid picked a SOAD song and pretended he was at a concert, thrashing around at the heavy metal parts, pretending he had a lighter during the slow parts, etc. When he finished the whole class was completely silent and the teacher was sitting there with his jaw on the floor. The teacher (probably mid-40s at the time) said, “That…was insane.”
I saw a band interview where they were asked about the seeds line. It’s literal, about how it’s extremely common for young kids with no direction to sit around eating sunflower seeds in the middle of the war zones they lived in. However, they are from California, close descendants of survivors of the Armenian Genocide.
I love watching people react to some of my favorite music I grew up with. The way your mind bursted with the emotions, lyrics, and music flowing through.... love it. Subscribed :)
Your reaction to BYOB has to be one of my favorite things I’ve seen on UA-cam 😂💕🔥 I love seeing people fall in love with rock music, and your realization of “I should have got into rock a hell of a long time ago” genuinely made me so happy and excited for you! 🥰
I am so envyous of you my boy! First time I heard SOAD I was in highschool, and it was one of the main reasons why I am so passionate about the state of the world and indeed the country I reside... keep it up man!
Also blind, seed and daddy. As fucked up as daddy is I think it's one of the most important songs in Korn's discography. So much emotion in it and the story behind it
I always thought his voice sounded hollow and sad. Even when he sings some of the faster stuff. He brings this almost other worldly sorrow to his voice. Its sounds so good and different when he sings by himself. At the same time he adds this texture and eerieness to Surj voice aswell as an amazing harmony to it
The technique used in the solo of Lonely Day is tremolo picking (basically just really quick 16th notes) in the beginning, and then transitioned into sweep picking (moving back and forth across the strings in a sweeping motion hitting 1 string at a time).
Fuck yeah man! This was dope, the laughs are what got me, and the gasps. Because yeah, to be impressed over and over is such a treat and a rarity. But with SOAD its basically every song :P. Also the drummers a percussionists that's why the madness with the guitar riffs and vocals makes sense. Its just beautiful. Thanks for this. Just found your channel.
every.single.time. I watch these I end up laughing, out loud, so hard that it brings tears to my eyes XD your energy is just delightful and it makes me feel less alone in this world.
I LOVE SOAD AND LOVE THAT YOU DID THIS!!! I stated in the comments of your first reaction to their song, Toxicity as an album is a masterpiece and not one bad song on it, they always keep you guessing and Mezmerize which is the album B.Y.O.B. is on is just as good! If you want another rabbit hole to jump in or another hour react, you have to check out Ice Nine Kills Silver Scream - 5 songs in this order - The American Nightmare, Thank God its Friday, A Grave Mistake, Stabbing in the Dark, and It is the End - individually the songs are fire, together with the videos its a movie! It will be an epic review for sure and I know you will become a fan of theirs quickly! Keep up the hustle, I enjoy your reactions.
I have known these songs for 15 years and they still give me chills, I can listen to them anytime even if they are 20 years old. All masterpieces in their own style
You are by far my fave reaction dude. The faces and noises you make; the way your body moves, you can 100% see you get it. You are a true music lover. It makes my heart full to watch you.
This guy sings in an eastern Orthodox Church tone (Armenian church) mixed with metal, I am Greek and I can verify you this at a 100% as we are also Orthodox, if you watch a liturgy or monks singing you will find a lot of similar elements. It's a very hard and unique technique.
Been a System of a Down fan for a long time. So much respect for you after watching your reaction. Your breakdowns of the songs were so thorough. Great attention to detail. You gained a new subscriber. 🤘🏽
Small mind is referring to materialistic, following the crowd etc. So losing small mind means you start living your life the way you always wanted to, and not giving a shit what anyone thinks
Just discovered you tonight and I have to say that I love what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. I’m a huge SOAD fan and have watched countless reaction videos on their music, and yours have hands down been my favorite. Your reactions are so pure and your enthusiasm is contagious. You mention being autistic and I am assuming you weren’t being facetious; that said, I think it is possibly your place on the spectrum that makes you so endearing and original. You’re not worrying about being cool or how your moves look (and they actually have been perfect and you’d fit in at any rock concert), instead you are hyper focused on feeling the music and immersing yourself in it and your giddiness has made my face hurt from smiling. Keep on the excellent journey you’re on and thank you for allowing us to join you.
I agree wholeheartedly with this person's perspective...u can always tell that Teddy's reactions are 💯%⁹ genuine & not discredited with pandering. He can dislike something without sounding like a hater or being disrespectful. 🐻 Teddy, I'll always say that u r one of the best to do reactions!!! 🤓🤓
Oh my, I think you would really enjoy Audioslave. Audioslave is the kind of thing that happens when your original bands aren't ripping deep enough into your essence, you get together with members of other bands and form new bands, now with spiritual jackhammers.
I was lucky enough to see SOAD 8 times and every time was a great concert, not only entertaining but awesome musicianship, it was like watching the cd live, so clean every time. Top 3 bands to see live in my life for sure.
With the song Ariel's for the lyrics first start by trying to understand the beginning lyrics which say " Life is a waterfall. We are ONE in the river and ONE again after the fall." As individual droplets we are falling through the air
I absolutely love your reaction to these badass songs. You're hysterical as well. The things you say out of shock for how different and awesome these songs are for you makes my day. HAHA
Came for Stray Kids, stayed for Falling in Reverse. I listen to many genres, but I LOVE both. It’s so enjoyable watching your reactions as you fall in love with rock music!! TEDDY STAN ❤️🤘😠🫰❤️
Yes!!!!!!!!! As a fellow Stay and someone who grew up in the rock industry, yes!!!! I love his reactions and the fact that he does a little bit of everything made me want more videos!
Another Hour with SOAD: Sugar, Question, Hypnotize and Spiders 🥰 so many good songy from them You haven' t hear yet 😌 I love SOAD 20 years and especially Serj 😍 he' s from Armenia and it makes his voice o speciál, You can hear the east backround in his voice 🙂
"First hour with" is such a great concept for getting into bands. These were a good mix of what System of a down has to offer as well. Also as you said, rock and metal are often seen as just screaming, with no meaning, which to be fair there is a lot of, but there is also alot of bands with heavy lyrics. An hour with Jinjer would be so awesome, as they have so much to offer, and so much variety. 4 tracks i would recommend: JINJER - Who Is Gonna Be The One (Live) JINJER - Perennial (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019) JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment) - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance JINJER - Teacher, Teacher!
OOOOOOO! Second Jinjer! My brother saw them live in Oslo with a Jinjer virgin, and he had the best time, both observing his friend getting his mind blown, and finally seeing them live.
Stumbled over this video. And you def gained a supporter. Your breakdowns are great and watching you slowly turn into a metalhead is amazing and amusing. Plus you're handsome. Great job I'll watch more of your videos! Sending encouragement from Sweden!
I absolutely love the warm energy that you give in your reactions and seeing you get so emerged into this brings me so much joy!! SOAD is one of my favorite bands! They're an Armenian-American metal band made of these incredible people: Serj Tankian (lead singer), Daron Malakian (guitarist, backup vocals and crazy eyes), Shavo Odadjian (bassist, epic beard) and John Dolmayan (the awesome drummer, always a serious look on his face)!
Thank you my friend and hey I’ve noticed that! In every photo of them he’s the only one not really joining in and just blankly staring at the camera in every photo, it’s hilarious 😂😂
Yep, that's our boy John😂 Well, SOMEONE had to be the responsible adult in that group😂 Enjoy your SOAD journey! I'll try to stop bombarding you with comments now :)
this is just the tip of the iceberg of creativity systems of an a down. you should listen to all their albums. you'll be pleasantly shocked and surprised.
Absolutely love the fact that he’s paying so much attention to the lyrics. A lot of people get distracted by SOADs crazy chaotic sound (VALID!!) but their lyrics are so fucking masterful and terrifyingly real. Serj has always been extremely outspoken about how fucked up our world and society is and he weaves that into every single lyric. Even their unserious songs have an underlying meaning. SOAD is one of the coolest bands to ever grace the industry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never really leave a comment, but I had to for SOAD. They were an important part of the soundtrack of my teen/early 20s years; them and Linkin Park, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet for my Valentine and many others. I saw them in Rock in Rio forever ago and it was cathartic to say the least. Imagine a crowd of 100k screaming these lyrics with you. I still remember looking at my friends, we all singing together and thinking that was one of the best moments of my life. And honestly it still is. It'll always be. Linkin Park was always the group I'd go to to let the problems of my personal life go and System was the one for my indignation of the way society was/is. Both of their lyrics spoke to me a lot and their concerts I've been to were a way for a new me to be born somehow. I would leave them lighter and happier. That's the power of a great rock concert can do to you. I hope this road you're going into - of discovering incredible rock music - can lead you to a concert like the ones I've experienced. I absolutely love kpop now and I've been to several concerts, but honestly a good rock concert with a great crowd? Nothing beats it, it's different, believe me. Hopefully you'll dive into more rock and fall in love with the genre and its lyrics, you won't regret it. Sorry for the long rant. System does make me nostalgic and I do tend to ramble, so I was bound to leave a gigantic comment, sorry again. Keep up the good work, Teddy!
I love seeing your reactions to music I've listened to and loved for so many years. System just hits the right spot and pulls you in. Can't listen and not feel the music and move like crazy. Such good music.
I came here to enjoy eternal System of a Down masterpieces and ended up enjoying your most genuine and emotional reactions. Huge like on not holding yourself back emotionally and going with the flow!!!
I LOVED watching you react to these guys. They tickle my brain in the best way, and I can see that you felt the music through your whole body like I do. Serj is operatically trained, and you can tell in the power and diaphragm control he displays when he sings. Add in the complex time signatures and genius beats, and they are quite literally my favorite band of all time.
You just gained a new subscriber, I love System of a Down and no has ever done 4 videos in a row, at least not that I have seen. Wow what a treat. Thank you, loved your reaction. Lots of love from Canada ❤🍁Can't wait to see more. You are awesome! 🤘😎
I’ve only just watched one of your reactions prior to this video, and I LOVE your reaction to BYOB… I’ve been a SOAD fan since high school (36 now) and they’ve been speaking the truth for decades. A truly underrated band. Thanks for keeping your reaction pure ♥️
It's always interesting being a longtime fan to hear new reactions because it's just normal to hear crazy crap from them and to see a new person take that end is pretty significant
Snot - Stoopid. Coal Chamber - Loco. Korn - Freak on a leash. Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff. Smile Empty Soul - Nowhere Kids. Powerman 5000- When worlds collide. I could go on😅🤣
okay a bit off topic but at 43:30 your voice blends GORGEOUSLY with the track, even given the fact that you've not practiced the song, not warmed up, and were super excited and moving around etc. like wow vocals on point fr
Ren, Falling in Reverse, Little Simz, Tool, & Rage Against the Machine, Coast Contra (& artists like them have a "voice" that society needs to hear. The revolution has begun!! 🫡🫡
I found your channel yesterday, and I watched several of your videos. First thing this morning, I’m back, looking for more. I love your energy and excitement when hearing some of the music I’ve loved for years. You’ve gained a subscriber!!!
Welcome aboard! I’ve made a playlist with my metal journey so far, I’ll leave the link for you and you can go through them at your own leisure! 🫶 Your support means a lot! ua-cam.com/play/PLZjk4aZ2IbGW5hIibnlT2xWtRPHlSvAq4.html&si=201WjeutNG0UsIXV
Thank you so so so much for doing this! honestly, SOAD has always been one of those groups that I grew up with. Not only the killer vocals and their amazing musicality, but the material of their lyrics is sooooo crazy. Serjs' voice is damn unique and i am really blessed you reacted to Aerials, its probably one of my favorite songs by them. Thank you Tedddyyyyyy ❣🧸 Honestly, the way I see the meaning for Aerials specifically, is that we are all born the same, we go through all the life experiences, and regardless on how we would like to live our life, what our experiences are, THE SOCIETY represses us to be like everyone else because this is the only way that is acceptable. The aerials to me would just be anything outside our common stereotypical way of living, anything that is standing out of everyone else. We look at them, we hope to be them, to be something that isnt reprimanded by the system we live in but it is too far out of our capabilities and courage to be like aerials. To me, the song is about longing to be free, free from judgement, from others' perception, but not being able to do so, as we are tied to live according to the system (haha, get it, system) we live in. The child in the video kinda refers to it too, being in a circus, but walking around, wanting to do other things, but eventually still ending up at the circus again
Man, I’m with ya. I’m down, lonely but I’m here, watching you react to my fav tunes. Music accompanies me wherever I go. Legend mate. Keep entertaining us! 🙌
This was EVERYTHING! The metal community welcomes you with open arms. You FEEL it. You get it. SOAD and Korn are 2 of my favorite bands. Im so happy you appreciate them. You randomly popped up on my suggested videos. Not disappointed, immediately subscribing. 🖤
Serj is one of THE Best Singers ever! I first heard System of a "Down back" in 2002 & loved their sound within seconds, with each song I heard they sounded better and better! I recommend you look into their lyric's more in-depth as they spit so much truth about the hypocrisies in this world. * "Prison Song", (by SOAD), is a good one, the statistic's in this song are from the early 2000's so the numbers are much worse now, much much worse. TY for such an enthusiastic reaction, I was happy to see you liked their music, they're a GREAT Band, Cheers [I consider S.O.A.D a Protest Band.]
SOAD is responsible for the best brain meltage there is. It's like they rearrange the wiring of your brain in the best way possible. Also Serj is absolutely fabulous. The perfect marriage between raw talent, formal training and unapologetic world view, plus some of the best musicians of our generation, and you get incredible music and... SOAD
Thank you... almost 20 years i listen these songs... so happy that people feels like me, enjoying feel like 1st time... like ... BOOOOOOOM. They are not a metal band, It is the universal band !
Thank you to every single one of you that was in the live chat during the Premiere, I had a great time reading all your reactions to the video and learning more and more about what it is I’m listening to! Toxicity and BYOB have been repeats for me since this reaction a couple days ago!

10:23 This "broken guitar" is actually a string instrument called an Indian Citara
you really should look at what Serj have done solo after SOAD... it's amazing.. the tracks I'd recommend: the first above all is "goodbye gate 21" with Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine guitarist), then "borders are"/"sky is over"/ "lie lie lie"/ "empty walls"/ and so much more... I missed it watch it now :)
You HAVE to check out their first album, it's IMO their best work, and EVERY track on the album hits
I always get so excited when people discover how poetic rock and metal actually is
I have chills watching him discover one of the greater bands.
I'm sitting here watching his reactions all conceited cause we ALREADY know!!! They're BRILLIANT!!!!
rock is very deep. It was the key to open the door for me to get in touch with my feelings.
@@meganthearchitectbrown1111 if only we could re-live those moments, right? Those reaction videos aren't popular for nothing
What you guys think about death metal and black metal?
He's Armenian, he's practiced in that middle eastern throat singing, Arabic maqam, so he sings his words with that yodeling or a hum. Thats the unique two-tone texture.
It’s also the folk song influence…. Love it!
The middle eastern rhythms are so strong with SOAD. It’s what makes their music often mesmerizing
❤ them
Serj also trained in opera I believe
One thing is that he is Lebanese born in America
This band is unique, i'm from Argentina and I was lucky enough to see them live here, they played like 25 songs and it felt like 10 seconds, i was so lucky.. i remember, It was Shavo's birthday, we sing happy birthday to him and suddenly Daron said "look at the moon!" , the moon was completely full, it was the biggest moon I had ever seen in my life. That sounds like a dream!!!
wow that sounds amazing!! Both experiences you will have for your lifetimes. Awesome stuff!
@@Trish150655 I have good memories, i saw gojira live a few weeks ago here too btw, another dream come true for me
Armenian*, not Argentinian. All of em but the bassist, if I remember correctly.
@@kimberlyjones3234I so desperately want to see them live, ugh 😭😭😭
Man I loved watching someone so happy to discover SOAD and how hard they slap.
Nu-metal is an interesting genre because it’s more or less protest music and each band has its own sound and set of ideas that they want to share with their audience.
For example the members of SOAD are extremely humanitarian, anti-war, and against governments having a lot of control over people (because the members are descendants of survivors from the Arminian genocide), which is reflected in their songs
While Slipknot tends to focus on stuff like mental health, freedom of artistic expression, and the issues of social isolation because they want to make a place for people who’ve been rejected
Korn often discusses the physical and psychological effects of abuse because the lead singer is a male survivor of csa and he wants to share his struggles so others don’t feel alone
Rage Against The Machine focuses on the Black American experience, the generational trauma of systemic and government supported racism, and how black people are allowed to be upset about it
All different, but all great bands that have important issues they are passionate about
It can be quite stupid when rock musicians begin to imagine themselves as understanding politics and make various loud statements to the general public.
Ey Don't forget Linkin Park
I think you summarized it very well. I listen to Nu Metal since my early teens (like lots of others here) and I think the issues they addressed spoke to many people which is why they saved lots of troubled souls. I‘m very thankful to all these bands.
Linkin park, Disturbed...
Many, many more...
Metal as itself - is extreme form of SCREAMING about of the problems
This would be an interesting topic for a UA-cam channel. Just explaining and discussing different artists/musicians general goal behind their music.
And of course, the actions of government sending the poor to die in wars that they caused or Wars that no person from a lower class family should be involved in
I always thought it was Bring Your Own Brain based on the video but cool to know the story behind it👍🏻
bring your own bush
Bring your own bois!
I always love when he screams “yes we do” in the live version after the line “we don’t live in a fascist nation”
@12:48 "he's singing about being lonely but he's got this music to accompany him. i find solace in that" WINNER OF MOST BEAUTIFUL THING I'VE HEARD THIS YEAR AWESOME
💯 % agreed!
he spit pure poetry there
It's not a broken guitar at the end of Aerials. That's an Indian sitar. It's a completely different instrument. It's the symbol of Indian music.
Sounds amazing!
i thought they were using a mandolin, sitar could be possible thought. i will have to look it up.
bazooki
Sitar is an amazing instrument to hear, what I understand is there's two sets of strings but you only play one and the other is just for resonance.
Delve into Ravi Shankar. Find his performance on the Dick Cavett show 1971 with George Harrison. Nora Jones not withstanding, his other daughter and extended family are equally accomplish.
So satisfying to watch non-metal listening individuals discover metal and like it. Sooooo satisfying. ❤️
The "sacred silence" is before you were born, the "sleep" is after you die, the "somewhere between" is life
Pretty sure that's exactly what he said.
@@delugesofgrandeurHe also said he wasn’t sure if that was the case
He’s also described it as mediation
brother your genuine reaction to BYOB being so manic and hype is so awesome. Ariels came out when i was 10 and BYOB came out when i was 16. These songs obviously still go hard today, but the effect they have on teenage hormones is absolutely insane. Absolute rager energy lmao.
Kiddo, I was 20 when BYOB dropped still profound
Love seeing genuine reactions to SOAD especially when they are feeling it u can see it in his face great video man
Seeing your reaction to BYOB is exactly why i watch reaction videos. Your mind getting blown with every tempo and phrase change is exactly how i felt hearing it for the first time, and i love seeing other people go through that emotional and mental rollercoaster. These guys are masters at it. With your love of rap you ought to check out Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade.
agree
I love people like you.
But I also like walls.
System of a down are one of the cleverest bands with their lyrics/meanings and musical arrangements
I visually imagine the whole performance 🥲
Im just sitting here sayim......"He's not ready for BYOB".......
I was thinking the exact same thing. Bro took it like a champion.
28:26 "where the fuck are you?" "I don't know..."
"where the fuck are you ?" "I DON'T KNOW !!"
I laughed so hard XD
Your reaction to byob is probably my favorite on the internet
Grew up with them and they truly speak to the soul. Listen to Sugar, Pogo Stick, Chop Suey, Prison Song… so many and a great rabbit hole to fall in
Bounce is about an orgy bro 😂
It’s bounce not pogo stick I believe
@@SuttonHornsby you’re right! Totally meant that but lack of sleep couldn’t remember the official name!
@@Mrs.Pritchard lol happens to all of us
Sugar was my first exposure to them and it was because of an animation on Newgrounds called Dumbass Mario of all things
Toxicity still hits HARD, all these years later. What a band. sublime
The "I don't know, I DONT KNOW " part killed me lmao
Much love from Florida
Your reaction to BYOB has to be one of my favorite things I’ve seen on UA-cam 😂💕🔥 I love seeing people fall in love with rock music, and your realization of “I should have got into rock a hell of a long time ago” genuinely made me so happy and excited for you! 🥰
I loved this kind of reaction 1h long, I totally vote for you to keep this format for new artists you're first reacting.
I agree, too.. people who are generally here for the right reasons tend to be less concerned with the length of the videos.
@@sarahsmith8780could not agree more!
The harmonization of these two is heavenly
I am so envyous of you my boy! First time I heard SOAD I was in highschool, and it was one of the main reasons why I am so passionate about the state of the world and indeed the country I reside... keep it up man!
Now THAT'S a reaction worthy of my attention. Had a great time just like you, mate. Keep it up.
The way you described between the sacred silence and sleep...excellent.
I absolutely loved that you did a rapid fire reaction set like this. When react to Korn, please make Freak on a Leash is on that list.
Seconding Freak On A Leash!
Yes!! Please 🙏
Might blow his mind.
for an hour long session, add Got The life, Blind, Twisted Transistor, Coming Undone and Did My Time
Also blind, seed and daddy.
"SoaD are bloody weird, but incredible"
That's the absolute truth.
I watch these I end up laughing, out loud, so hard that it brings tears to my eyes XD your energy is just delightful and it makes me feel less alone in this world.
we’re alone together 🫶
I BACK THIS COMMENT
ICE NINE KILLS FOR HALLOWEEN PLEASE!
Yessss I back this
There is not a bad song in theyr whole discography xD
Yes 100% but I'm a horror nerd
I have known these songs for 15 years and they still give me chills, I can listen to them anytime even if they are 20 years old. All masterpieces in their own style
i got to experience them as they were coming out, in single form.... chop suey and toxicity were a revolution
"A Day I''m glad I survived" such a poignant lyric. it tears me up every single time. Beautiful song.
💞 When you said that music accompanies us through life, that was very profound. 🤯❤️🔥 I can tell that u r such an amazing person, Teddy!! 🥰🫠💐

Been a System of a Down fan for a long time. So much respect for you after watching your reaction. Your breakdowns of the songs were so thorough. Great attention to detail. You gained a new subscriber. 🤘🏽
Dude, you quickly became my favourite reactor! Greetings from Poland and keep up the good work.
Audioslave 🔛🔝
I was lucky enough to see SOAD 8 times and every time was a great concert, not only entertaining but awesome musicianship, it was like watching the cd live, so clean every time. Top 3 bands to see live in my life for sure.
What were your other 2?
@dyl-sean3376 my other 2 is rough I have alot of top 3s lol, but I'd have to say Iron Maiden and Tool
Dude you are amazingly unique and spontaneous in your reactions, it is REFRESHING!!! keep it up.
With the song Ariel's for the lyrics first start by trying to understand the beginning lyrics which say " Life is a waterfall. We are ONE in the river and ONE again after the fall."
As individual droplets we are falling through the air
Ahh that was fun lol. "Spiders" is a good one! thx Teddy
That reaction to the start of B.Y.O.B is amazing! I think all us fans can appreciate the head banging and screaming.
“This is one of the weirdest songs I’ve ever heard” (still vibing to it tho)
….yeah sounds about right for SOAD LOL
Not placing Chop Suey among those is almost a crime.
"I-E-A-I-A-I-O" is great as well
"First hour with" is such a great concept for getting into bands.
4 tracks i would recommend:
JINJER - Who Is Gonna Be The One (Live)
JINJER - Perennial (Live at Wacken Open Air 2019)
JINJER - Judgement (& Punishment) - Tatiana Shmayluk - One Take Vocal Performance
JINJER - Teacher, Teacher!
OOOOOOO! Second Jinjer! My brother saw them live in Oslo with a Jinjer virgin, and he had the best time, both observing his friend getting his mind blown, and finally seeing them live.
You are so extremely clever in your lyrical analysis. So on point most of the time!
Thank you my friend!
This guy teddy is fascinating, such insight is rarely shown in reactors. Keep it up please teddy, I’ll continue watching. 👍
Teddydactyl was in the building and also his shoe 😂😂
so glad to finally catch a premiere 🤟🏽
this is just the tip of the iceberg of creativity systems of an a down. you should listen to all their albums. you'll be pleasantly shocked and surprised.
LOVE THAT LINE TOO "Alway wanna play but never want to lose" ie playing music.
The nostalgia is so real. I love introducing people to these bands.
Hearing B.Y.O.B for the first time changed me as a kid.

System of a Down is one of my all time favourites. There is so interesting songs and drummer is insane, all the beat changes and speed.
I’ve only just watched one of your reactions prior to this video, and I LOVE your reaction to BYOB… I’ve been a SOAD fan since high school (36 now) and they’ve been speaking the truth for decades. A truly underrated band. Thanks for keeping your reaction pure ♥️

okay a bit off topic but at 43:30 your voice blends GORGEOUSLY with the track, even given the fact that you've not practiced the song, not warmed up, and were super excited and moving around etc. like wow vocals on point fr

Bro you sing so beautifully
Thank you so so so much for doing this! honestly, SOAD has always been one of those groups that I grew up with. Not only the killer vocals and their amazing musicality, but the material of their lyrics is sooooo crazy. Serjs' voice is damn unique and i am really blessed you reacted to Aerials, its probably one of my favorite songs by them. Thank you Tedddyyyyyy ❣🧸
Honestly, the way I see the meaning for Aerials specifically, is that we are all born the same, we go through all the life experiences, and regardless on how we would like to live our life, what our experiences are, THE SOCIETY represses us to be like everyone else because this is the only way that is acceptable.

I first heard System of a "Down back" in 2002 & loved their sound within seconds, with each song I heard they sounded better and better!
