I interpret this as the writer of the lyrics sending a message to the listeners through the perspective of an alien, giving us a “Birds Eye view” so to speak, an aerial perspective of the brokenness and hypocrisy of humanity and their relationships with each other. The freedom from this enslavement is a new perspective and open mind
To me, it's the first line/stanza "Life is a waterfall , we're one in the river then we're one again after the fall" . That is such an incredible line! But it also took me several times of generic listening to realize what was really being said. I'm still learning about SOAD and I was part of their target group in the mid 2000's. Love watching you react!
To me the meaning of the song is that we're deeper than the trivial things in life, like the external ego and how we present or protect ourselves to the world.
I think it's supposed to be about struggling to find your identity in a rapidly changing world and to make sense of it all. When I first heard it I caught some bits of the lyrics I took it to be about opening your mind and not being withdrawn from your environment.
I think it's about "when you lose small mind you free your life" and by small mind they are talking about things like fancy cars and supermodels as seen in the video.
its about a few things: ''Life is a waterfall We're one in the river And one again after the fall'' means we are all one divided consciousness before being born, and is again 'one'' after death. ''We lose ourselves, but we find it all'' when born ''you'' the soul becomes part of the brain, and gets ''memory wiped''. and though life we develop our conscious and your intuition of how and what you want to be, its not intuition but your own soul aka ''you'' that is at play. some people now sadly just get their ''personality'' copied from others or socialmedia ect. also called brainwashing, but anyway. ''Cause we are the ones that want to play, Always want to go, but you never want to stay'' meaning we ourselves as non physical beings , decided to get a body, be born and experience life. Also choosing looks, country, parents ect. you as a soul decided that. before all your own opinions and views now. if you don't like your parents, looks ect, its not the souls disliking, but the human brain and the little knowledge they have in such ''short'' lifespans, that highly contribute to their personal opinions, personality and ect. Never want to stay, just means people who don't enjoy slash like their lifes, being suicidal ect. ''When you lose small mind, you free your life'' meaning achieving higher consciousness, and devolving a higher mindset and in control. higher vibrational feelings, opening third eye ect. This message wasn't meant personally to you , but just any-one reading. only meant for the fewest potential seekers who might be here on the ''internet''.
It's beautifully written and very poetic and I think the power of the song is in the fact that you can find many meanings to the words, and spin the message in different ways but all of them, to me, are positive and hopeful, and about rising above and elevating yourself and how you think. And then the music and their singing when they harmonize is gorgeous too.
My number one favorite thing about metal, a badass riff can make anyone's head have to nod (aka headband). Here we have two rappers and they can't help themselves, I LOVE it! 🤘🏻😈🤘🏻 metal can bring everyone together!....and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND sticking with SOAD. Serj is such a deep poet with an amazing voice. They'll deff have you deep thinking haha
Life is a waterfall we're one with the river and one again after the fall We're all just parts of the source of life energy, then separate to experience life as individuals, then come back together, reunified, after death.
The waterfall reference is a Buddhist philosophy about life and consciousness.... We are all part of one United consciousness before we're born and again after we die, like the water of a river going over a fall and splitting up into individual droplets before reforming in the pool at the bottom...
Been a while but I love this song. Video sure matches the lyrics. Great reaction ❤ To me..we as humans can have very narrow mindness. The lyrics encourage me to open up a universal mindset as to nothing is impossible to reach. We see it at times but build a wall to prevent exposure to different concepts.
It's not their most popular, but this is my favorite SOAD. I think of it pretty closely to your interpretation... it's about individual self and ego vs the flow of life, connected to all other life.
Daron and Serj are big on opened minds. Not closed minds that want it their way or no way. Dare to think freely is their motto. Btw. Daron writes majority of their songs.
I’ve always felt it’s how we feel when we are trying to find where we fit in to our lives.. like the first day of school , how we felt like we were alien in the sea of humanity.. some of us put up walls but we become free if we open our minds and realize at the end of the day we are all one .. there is so much division in the world but it really really matter because we are all going to decay back into nature.. it’s always been philosophy and spiritual meaning to me too
I think its about people being comfortable with the little stuff they know and being scared of differences and changes (stuff like religious beliefs, race, gender, culture). He wants us to look outside the box, get a birds eye view of life and learn more about other to truly grow and be happy.
This song reminds of the the drive for perfection. Often in that drive, we lose ourselves, but we learn to open up during our struggle and drive to succeed.
I personally take from the song that life feels safe and secure so people stay in there lane, but when you open your mind from small thoughts you fall, but as you fall you see the truths of reality, the facades, the lies, the plots and the schemes. then after the fall your once again whole, to finally see the benefits of the gift, the eternal prize.
Its the Bob Dylan technique. Make the lyrics vague in such a way that they feel specific to you, because you fill in the details. Use a methaphor that causes the listener to interpret it, and then you think you got it, but you do not realize that there are 10 or more equally correct interpretations. This way many people feel that they connect and that the lyrics apply to them, everyone thinks they understand it, while there are many interpretations. You need to say just enough to make people believe that you said something meaningful, but not too much so that people can find their own interpretations and embelish it with their own details. Doing this well while writing lyrics or poetry is incredibly challenging. Its working, you can see it in the comments, people come up with all kinds of their own interpretations. These are all very different, and personal. Everyone thinks the lyrics say enough to justify their interpretation, and the lyrics DO say enough to evoke all those interpretations, but the lyrics are not specific enough to rule out any of these. People think Bob Dylan is a great storyteller, and one of his lines is: "Her passport shows a face from another time and place, she looks nothing like that". Nearly everyone experienced that. He just prompted you to create your personal version of the main female character of the song. You think he is describing her, but he makes you do the work without you even realizing it. Everyone has an image of the women in "Black Diamond Bay" but the lyrics actually reveal almost nothing about her.
Aerials refers to people (thinking their above someone else because their different Check out Liberate by Disturbed. I think you’ll love it. Also, waiting for that ten thousand fists to drop. Ten thousand fists is probably my favorite disturbed song and favorite album of theirs. Unfortunately there is no music video
idk about that, I mean maybe if it refers to the elite thinking there higher then us because they surveillance us with satellites and aerials... or maybe alians are watching in there aerials
The meaning of the song is that people lose themselves in the pursuit of material goods. The clip shows an alien who may have extraordinary abilities (he lifts the car with a wave of his hand), but all the fame and money do not give him happiness.
The only take i got from this song originally was thinking about the point of view you'd have at the top of an aerial. I remember when i was school age, climbing on the rooftops of houses. Although a single storey house isn't as tall as aerials, the perspective was a trip looking down at life passing by. So, when I first heard this song, many moons ago, I had no clue what it meant after one listen, so I think you do a pretty good job of guessing the meaning of a lot of the tunes you react to.😀👍 Love the show
I've always taken it as Serj (The lead singer) is the alien. Moving from his home in Lebanon and becoming this massive star and being essential what he feels like is a carnival side show for these big corporate heads. He felt good about success and fame and women but still never felt like he fit in. Like he was still just that little alien boy who was searching to feel full. Only to find it in the circus he started in. ie. Finding it within himself.
Great reaction, glad you enjoy SOAD! When are you going to do more Tool?! I think you connect a lot with their music and really enjoyed your reaction to The Pot, looking forward to you doing more of a deep dive on them, hopefully soon!!
I could write a dissertation on how i interpret this song, but these lyrics in particular always strike me as particularly religious/spiritual and beautiful: "Life is a waterfall, we're one in the river and one again after the fall," interpreting it to mean: we are one before we are born-- in Heaven or wherever you believe we are before--, the waterfall, and the fall, being the process of life and death. Then we are one again in the river. Wherever our endless energy goes after we die.
i think it is about those who have awakened or enlightened themselves, and see how predictable and boring it can be once you find out how to gain success and fame. manifestation and such. the lose small mind part says much. pursue self enlightenment and study the forbidden knowledge and free yourself from the matrix that the main character seems so distraught about, you can see their expression. it is sad and depressing seeing others still blind and predictable. that is how it feels to break through and see others still stuck. sad, but also inspiring to want to help them see. but they build walls and become ignorant
When I first heard the song, I thought it was about society growing apart (drink from the water, put up our walls). The video makes it about them as a band (circus tent, photo shoot, hot girls, etc). The clincher was the only time you see the boy smile is when the money starts flying. I think it's about the band coming to terms with their life....Some parts of being a rock star are bad, some good. In the end, the boy lays down in the middle of the tent
My interpretation is that this is a loss of innocence, once we become aware of life's pitfalls. The waterfall is the pool, the source of life, a force to be reckoned with. We all start our infancy and then plunge in to the deep of life, loosing our innocence. This is a drop into the abyss of life (waterfall), only to become the river again. Think of it this way, life moves in stages, childhood, teen years, adulthood, senior years: A river (childhood), there are usually rapids before a waterfall (teen years), waterfall (adulthood), river again (senior years). Then if you go deeper in the meaning of life, we have a beginning and and end in this body, aerials is the metamorphosis into the next life. The alien looking character we see represents this spiritual being that we are before becoming flesh and blood, and the spirt we become at the end of our time in this body. I may be wrong, but that is how I see it. BTW, I discovered your channel last night and have been enjoying checking out all that I see here. Great work. Look forward to seeing more.
I think part of the Aerial meaning is a double entendre as a flying trapeze they are called aerialist an that's the flying through the air ..as in the video it looks like a circus floor or the big tent at the circus. Just what I got out of it when I first saw the video as part of the meaning
To me, Aerials represents like when you see a crop circle from the ground you can't quite interpret what it is, but if you see it from an aerial view, you get an entirely new perspective. It's like looking at the world as a whole, instead of your own selfish bubble. Some lines stick out to me, like for instance "Always wanna play, but you never wanna stay". Often when big charity events happen, everyone's on board, and helping out, and donating. but after a week everyone forgot what even happened. they got their charity in to make themselves feel good, but after that fuckit'
Lots of rappers like SOAD after they actually listen to it. It's because of the timing... it's exact, never off. The lyrics are very deep but relate to things that happen to everyone. Glad you're diving in with these reactions!! Keep going!! Happy listening!!
I take away this, the “alien” is doing what he needs to do so he can spread his message, however u can see the frustration in his/her face realizing the message is being lost to those with small minds and at the end of the day he is exhausted from the constant effort!
There is a lot of esoteric messaging within a lot of Serj's lyrics and many other rock musicians that have a lot to do with spirituality and ancient wisdom. Rock and Metal tend to dive into the darker aspects of life that most are incapable of dealing with. In a Jungian aspect, it's a lot of Shadow Work being done. But its in that Darkness that you find new Light, and try to bring that light to the surface through some form of art. You turn the ugliness of the darker side into something beautiful. Its spiritual alchemy, and it helps both you and your audience heal. Serj jas talked about mediation quite a bit. There are definitely several ways to interpret this song. Depending on what you have experienced in your life, you will project those experiences onto the medium of the art to make some sort of interpretation. The more you experience, the more interpretations it takes on. All that being said, I witnessed UFOs one night, had been studying a lot about them, caught footage of it, had 2 other witnesses with me at the time, and then shit got really weird after that. It definitely opened my mind to the possibilities of Life and the perception of life through the 3rd Eye. Seeing from Above. Watch the video Sugar by SOAD. The imagery in that one really paints the picture of what SOAD is about.
It's not that complicated, it's literally just about keeping your "aerials" high, meaning paying attention to the whole universe, not just to yourself. Stop focusing on "me" or even "us" (as in your country, your tribe, your religion, your ideology, etc.) and take in the whole as a whole.
I mention this a lot but it's all in why rock and metal became a thing. Sticking it to the man is the primary base for it all, speaking out against issues and helping people release un tapped feelings and raw emotions that they can't connect with because of these kinda things going on in the world and most times they're woke to reality beyond mental and emotional stability can handle so it is empowering empowerment to the people insane or going insane because of being drowned in reality and 99% of it, is all in people want to be seen. Harry Mack taps into it on a more personable level, this music is for those who can't connect to personable connectivity to feel heard and seen while they suffer from being stuck woke to the reality of life
Just a friendly reminder, you can click the Closed Caption button on the video you’re reviewing so you can read the lyrics while the song is playing. Much easier than using your phone. Keep on rockin! 🤘🏼
A lot of their music is anti war anti gov and anti corporation so if you keep that in mind most of the time you can find a meaning in the song! I am a believer in the camp of music does not have one meaning it is different from person to person! You should look into Serj Tankien Empty Walls even if you just listen to it in your personal time!
This is a very spiritual/philosophical song. If you liked this, you definitely MUST listen to Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath, i say. Ronnie James Dio is absolutely one of the most legendary voices of Metal
React to Annalisa, amazing italian singer. She deserves more recognition. Recently dropped an album that is full of amazing songs: Bellissima, Ragazza Sola, Sinceramente, Euforia and more. Great vocals and catchy songs.
"Life is a waterfall, we're One in the river then One again after the fall" We are all from God. During our lives we fall erratically then culminating in the river or other body of water once life (the fall ) ends. Basically, we are all from God and will return to Him once or fall is complete. God wins
I think the song’s about moksha/nirvana. In eastern religions like Hinduism and Buddhism, our “reality” is either an illusion or a realm of suffering, and losing ourselves and freeing our eyes (i.e. casting off earthly attachments and illusions) leads us to seeing the cosmos as it truly is, leading to eternal bliss - aka nirvana/moksha. The Indian sitar instrumentals kinda lends credence to my theory.
The first time I heard this I thought they were talking about illegal aliens(Mexicans). I know it’s a stereo type but with the lowrider scene, the lyrics talking about drinking from a river and putting up walls, the borders into America. Also “always wanna go but never wanna stay”, meaning leave Mexico and never go back(deported). And so on and so on…….
“Swimming through the void, we hear the word We lose ourselves, but we find it all”, swimming across the river in pitch black night and then when you get across you find freedom.
I don't really care all that much about lyrics, so I don't even try to analyze them when I first hear a song. It's better to analyze and enjoy the musicianship.
I can tell you the exact meaning and philosophy behind this song. So we're all part of the same world Yet while many are similar and start out with small minds, we all want to grow but many just play along where it seems so cool and collected and there is a struggle though in the accepting of diversity and many when awakened get scared and place up those inner barriers and walls when afraid of the unknown but why should the aliens and misfits, minorities of the world have to suffer at the expense of those who stay closed minded by choice so the song is all in representing the people over higher existence and differences and making the system aware they can shove that shovanistic, however it's spelled, prejudice and abuse of the closed minds of the generic stereotypical, traditional Karens of anti acceptance
System of a down is just like, hey people guess what "FU" "0fux" given because we're going to keep rising up and doing us regardless of what you think because it was all about the historical and modern concepts for anti diversity hypocrisy and abuse especially evolved around the 80s- early 2Ks in the in-between era between the old and the new where there was a huge struggle about rising up against all of that especially in the nu-metal and alt metal genre's about expressing how the world being screwed up was making innocent people screwed up being in the line of fire
Last time I mention this if I can remember but you should react to Twenty one pilots. They have a new album coming out in 2 weeks and the Click is going to be searching up a storm for reactions to watch!
Anyone else notice the moon lander deniers video in his recommend? I feel this, lol. Watching flat earth debunking and debates is my #1 source of entertainment.
You always have to remeber that almost any song by SOAD is politically based because of Serj, if i remember correctly this was about Serj's point of view about America coming to all these other countries in war and "fixing" their problems then just leaving them and then after they leave the country hiw they talk about how great they are and Americans blindly believing all the hype until anyone actually from whatever country they went to speaks the truth about what happened
Essentially the nore we lose the mor we're free of the human conditioned lies and can begin to separate from the bs and the alien looking person is real too, showing the world that different people aren't freaks, just maybe people would find more similarities with different people and get along better... Another part of the concept is opening your third eye to the respective nature of diverse life
Yeah it’s almost like small minded thinking. You’ll get it. Check out Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Rock is deep that’s why it is the most genre reacted to by all the youngsters. Spiral Out.
Serj lives in my city in New Zealand.. he is super friendly alot of people have randomly bumped into him and said hello
I'm from NZ how tf did I not know this?
I interpret this as the writer of the lyrics sending a message to the listeners through the perspective of an alien, giving us a “Birds Eye view” so to speak, an aerial perspective of the brokenness and hypocrisy of humanity and their relationships with each other. Exactly. Open your mind to the fact that all of life is connected 💗 Everything we do has a cascading effect on everything else.

I wish there were more reactions to Lonely Day!

"It's a song about a handicapped circus performer" - Shavo 2001 😭😭
I agree with you
In modern times the more connected we become, the more we seek approval of others the more we lose ourselves and our identity......
its about a few things:
''Life is a waterfall We're one in the river And one again after the fall'' means we are all one divided consciousness before being born, and is again 'one'' after death.

Love that G immediately went to the lowriders.
It’s in my blood🫡
To me, Aerials represents like when you see a crop circle from the ground you can't quite interpret what it is, but if you see it from an aerial view, you get an entirely new perspective.
It's like looking at the world as a whole, instead of your own selfish bubble. Some lines stick out to me, like for instance "Always wanna play, but you never wanna stay". Often when big charity events happen, everyone's on board, and helping out, and donating. but after a week everyone forgot what even happened. they got their charity in to make themselves feel good, but after that fuckit'
Free the mind to free the soul. An open mind does not fear what it doesn’t understand and instead seeks understanding.
R.I.P. 🇺🇸Suggestion, Toby Keith “Crying For Me”
Serj has a phenomenal voice and writing style. Listen to his song Goodbye, I think you'd really like it
There is a lot of esoteric messaging within a lot of Serj's lyrics and many other rock musicians that have a lot to do with spirituality and ancient wisdom.
System of the down - hypnotized
It's not that complicated, it's literally just about keeping your "aerials" high, meaning paying attention to the whole universe, not just to yourself. Stop focusing on "me" or even "us" (as in your country, your tribe, your religion, your ideology, etc.) and take in the whole as a whole.
System of a Down - Prison Song, you should do next.
Pretty sure I just found my new favorite channel. What about Young The Giant, Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, Maneskin, KALEO?
Gotta check out coming undone by Korn. But anyways! Great reaction. Glad you showed him this!
Harry Mack taps into it on a more personable level, this music is for those who can't connect to personable connectivity to feel heard and seen while they suffer from being stuck woke to the reality of life
More System of a Down please ✌🏻 Prision Song
Keep it up MATE I'm an Aussie
I always say that country music tells a story, but rock music can do it as well
Just a friendly reminder, you can click the Closed Caption button on the video you’re reviewing so you can read the lyrics while the song is playing. Much easier than using your phone.
Keep on rockin! 🤘🏼
It's moreless of wake up ppl he was calling it out for such a long time. Just as rage against the machine was doing. Society is full of blind folds
Don't quote me bit I think I remember reading or hearing serj say it is about releasing all the worldly bads to go up to the higher place
It’s like a replay of all the bad 90’s rap vids
This is a very spiritual/philosophical song. If you liked this, you definitely MUST listen to Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath, i say. Ronnie James Dio is absolutely one of the most legendary voices of Metal
A very good song to listen to is called Boom by System of a Down I think you'll enjoy it.
Tech nine did a track with Serj from SOAD - i think it would be an awesome crossover for you....
React to Annalisa, amazing italian singer. She deserves more recognition. Recently dropped an album that is full of amazing songs: Bellissima, Ragazza Sola, Sinceramente, Euforia and more. Great vocals and catchy songs.
"Life is a waterfall, we're One in the river then One again after the fall"
We are all from God. During our lives we fall erratically then culminating in the river or other body of water once life (the fall ) ends. Basically, we are all from God and will return to Him once or fall is complete. God wins
make me laugh how one of the genres which is meant to be the most anti-establishment is the most shielded by the establishments copyright restrictions
You guys are pretty close to being correct, toxicity as an album is mostly about Hollywood and media being a literal toxic city
HI FROM MÉXICO 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
YOU SHOULD REACT TO "HOLY MOUNTAINS" BY SISTEM OF A DOWN.
🤘🤘🤘🔥🔥🔥
The first time I heard this I thought they were talking about illegal aliens(Mexicans). I know it’s a stereo type but with the lowrider scene, the lyrics talking about drinking from a river and putting up walls, the borders into America. Also “always wanna go but never wanna stay”, meaning leave Mexico and never go back(deported). And so on and so on…….
“Swimming through the void, we hear the word
We lose ourselves, but we find it all”, swimming across the river in pitch black night and then when you get across you find freedom.
Hey BP the big push got a new one dropping today called heart attack
Acid Bath - Bleed Me an Ocean, please!
I don't really care all that much about lyrics, so I don't even try to analyze them when I first hear a song. It's better to analyze and enjoy the musicianship.
I can tell you the exact meaning and philosophy behind this song.
So we're all part of the same world
Yet while many are similar and start out with small minds, we all want to grow but many just play along where it seems so cool and collected and there is a struggle though in the accepting of diversity and many when awakened get scared and place up those inner barriers and walls when afraid of the unknown but why should the aliens and misfits, minorities of the world have to suffer at the expense of those who stay closed minded by choice so the song is all in representing the people over higher existence and differences and making the system aware they can shove that shovanistic, however it's spelled, prejudice and abuse of the closed minds of the generic stereotypical, traditional Karens of anti acceptance
If young buck likes lyrics and wants that hamster wheel moving he should check out some Tool.
Anyone else notice the moon lander deniers video in his recommend? I feel this, lol. Watching flat earth debunking and debates is my #1 source of entertainment.
You always have to remeber that almost any song by SOAD is politically based because of Serj, if i remember correctly this was about Serj's point of view about America coming to all these other countries in war and "fixing" their problems then just leaving them and then after they leave the country hiw they talk about how great they are and Americans blindly believing all the hype until anyone actually from whatever country they went to speaks the truth about what happened
react to Questions 👌🏾👌🏾 soad
It. But. About. A. War
Watching rappers try to figure out actual deep music is so funny 😂
Essentially the nore we lose the mor we're free of the human conditioned lies and can begin to separate from the bs and the alien looking person is real too, showing the world that different people aren't freaks, just maybe people would find more similarities with different people and get along better...
Another part of the concept is opening your third eye to the respective nature of diverse life
Toxicity brought SOAD to my attention... Aerials gave me curiosity. From that song i became a fan of the band.
my guy going straight cholo at the slightest sight of a lowrider is stereotypical jokes.
ICE NINE KlLLS - Farewell II Flesh
this song got blocked???
Chop Suey!
please do Toby Keith how you like me now
I got no idea
Put him in front of FiR , Maiden, or Nightwish
Yeah it’s almost like small minded thinking. You’ll get it. Check out Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Rock is deep that’s why it is the most genre reacted to by all the youngsters. Spiral Out.
Please have your boy react to twenty one pilots-chlorine. I want to his interruption of the lryics
Who is this child? He is Alien, Indigo? I don't know...
Stop taking on the rapers that talks about the white rapers and the white boys. Music is universal..
