@@joaoaugustolandim pretty much 😂. That’s as far as I know but I’m pretty sure that was it. I think it was in California when they were recording and that’s what homie was screaming at him.

What i love about music is fans of two completely opposite genres can share appreciation for the other. Metal and hip hop for some reason share a lot of the same fans, and its amazing. If i were to guess, probably the poetical and lyrical focus of both genres.
If you'd like to hear what their not so heavy songs sound like, listen to the songs "spiders", "dead memories", and "'Til we die", dead memories is probably the heaviest out of the songs I've listed, and "'Til we die" is the lightest.
I also forgot to mention that I think the song 'til we die was also used as a tribute song for their former bass guitarist Paul Gray who passed away from heart failure in 2010.
just watched this. yeah, marlon bando was a famous actor in the 60s,70s,80s, he often played characters that had trouble fitting in with society and often acted out against the establishment. but he made so great movies worth checking out someday.
The lyrics you can't see California without Marlon Brando's eye's is something a homeless guy was saying as the lead singer Corey Taylor was walking down one of the streets in Los Angeles
When I first listened to this album in 99 I asked my dad who Marlon brandon was and he told me just basically of his movie history being the best actor but he hated Hollywood so I assumed it was to do with hatred of fake Hollywood 🤷
Corey said the song is about trying to talk to people about your problems and they tell you you’re problems don’t matter. Hence the line “It’s all in your head”
Damn y'all be reacting to their heavy shit lol. Props though. I figured y'all would start soft but shit y'all jumped into it like I did back in 99 😄😆😅. Listen to purity, liberate, no life. (Lot of hip hop in those last two. Corey got bars
Anyone that's a Slipknot fan is a "Magot", we stick together like a family, great song choice, you should check out out Unsainted, it's off their latest album.
Finally after waiting for so many years i finally got to see them last night. No one has shows like that anymore. Where the music is so powerful that everyone is so into it that even if they hold up their phone to record, it doesnt last long because everyone just wanted to rock the fuck out. Best show ive seen in a long time. Favorite band ever.
Great video guys, I like seeing people giving metal a try and they always end up appreciating it more in time rather than just thinking it’s a load of noise. One day please consider doing some Killswitch Engaged - signal fire or rose of Shariden (maybe spelt the last word wrong - it’s his mums name but I can’t spell it with copying it lol)
A sentence lead singer Corey Taylor heard from a homeless guy on the street while he was in California. It most likely means that you cannot be in California without embracing the acting culture, so you can’t see California without Marlon Brando’s eyes.
Marlon Brando is one of the most successful actors in Hollywood,if you ever catch the time check out Apocalypse Now! He plays as a vietnam colonel that went rogue. Corey Taylor claims a homeless man was screaming “you can’t see without Marlon Brandon’s eyes” which kinda makes sense if you think about it-you can only see the facade of Hollywoods fame and fortune but what it takes for somebody like Marlon who had to work his way into it puts things in another perspective.
Marlon Brando was a very famous actor back in the day. The point is you can't see (all) California without an a list celebs viewpoint, just like you can't see the homeless problem without their perspective.... if you want to truly see something you need to learn to see all viewpoints on that thing
I believe the homeless man story adds up. But it also works well because of Brando’s struggles in his personal life despite being a successful actor. You can’t see it until you see the good and the bad!
Marlon Brando is one of the biggest Hollywood actors back in the early days of cinema, He played the God father in "the god Father" among other big roles. hope that give a little bit more context on the lyrics
I used to think it meant something like... even though Marlon Brando was a seriously respectable and a very successful person, one can't see past the illusion of Hollywood, California if one doesn't have Marlon Brando's eyes.. to add to that, as Corey heard it from a homeless guy it might mean that in Cali success can only be attained through the acting business. This track is fire and will forever leave it's mark!! 🔥🔥
Malon brando was a film guy. He was in stuff like God Father, considered to be a psychological marvel of his time. I think the "get to california" part, which slipknot does have lyrics uniquely for interpretation only (like a poet that he is), it could be considered to be meaning that you can't be 'something' without having a unique drive. Marlon Brando is just *likely* one of the biggest names that Corey Taylor (The vocalist) is a huge fan of and drew the conclusion from something he knew about. "all they wanna do is get rid of me" is in reference to them trying to make a name in the music industry. Duality is a song they released in later years that became their first big single to be featured on mtv, vh1, radios and whatnot, and they explicitly said that they created that song and another (Heretic Anthem) to push their views on how record companies decide what's 'good enough' for the radio. Much like Corey, they did the same thing to Eminem, and he released a song just like this on his Eminem Show album, Without Me. These were pretty big topics back then because this was the era where you could get fired for saying 'ass' at work or something. Like censorship has come a long way from this band, eminem, and others that have pushed the record companies into submission. This generation of music and people made the general public less stuck up.
I saw Manson open up for slipknot during the grey chapter tour. Manson was super drunk like seriously wasted. he was such trash for the first 10 minutes. only because of the fact he was trashed. but after that first 10 minutes he was awesome got his composure back and was amazing through the rest of the show. but then slipknot came out of the gates so hard after that and totally stole the show. Manson was awesome at the last 35 minutes but slipknot just freaking destroyed it. the pit was all the way up to the back row. it was nuts but so much fun. 10/10. Corey sounded amazing, jay was on drums for like a year and a half at that point. so I didn't know how to feel when I first got there because I didn't know if I was happy with the lineup change at the time? but he did amazing Joey will always be my favorite drummer but Jay definitely is up there with him on the top. rest in peace Joey.
Marlon Brando was an actor with huge success but also huge sadness he’s saying you can’t see that success(California) without marlon brandos eyes (sadness)
To me it feels like he is saying California is Hollywood and the biggest actor for the past few decades is the Godfather himself self Marlon Brando. See California through the rose colored glasses of celebrity, money, fame, Hollywood. A homeless man was the one that told him that. Clearly a wise man.
Also I don't know if you've listened to the lead singers other band Stone Sour, but if you haven't, you should. It is a rock band as opposed to Slipknot which is heavy metal. I'd suggest starting with the song through glass.
That phrase was just incoherent nonsense that Corey overheard a homeless guy saying. But if you think about it, I think it means you can't truly experience something unless you can experience it to the fullest. Not everyone can see California as a whole, but I'm sure Marlon Brando could have. 🤘
Maybe there is a correlation between being homeless and having no father that is expressed in the song. Essentially lacking the foundations for a good life?
Basically. “You can’t see California without marlon brandos eyes”. Is in relation to a homeless dude screaming that at Corey.
Still the funniest meaning behind lyrics
Down deeper. It means in order to truly experience something, you have to go all in.
There's not a meaning, just the origin. What Corey meant to say when he put that?
