I was at this show. I left with 2 broken ribs and a lot of bruises. 20 years later, hundreds of shows later and STILL, nothing has topped it. Best show EVER!!!
HAHA! Awesome Mark
Yeah, what fun! Next time try leaving with a broken skull. That’s even more epic.
Dude that's fucking awesome! I saw this concert on DVD which was my first exposer to Slipknot. I was 13. I couldn't stop watching! I always told people I would give a kidney to see Disasterpieces. Rock on man
Indeed .
lol, I've watched the Disasterpieces about a 100 times as a teenager and always wondered how the crowd survived this :D
No non drummer will ever understand how physical it is to play 2 hours of metal. Its a massive workout. Joey was a small guy - he musta stayed relaxed throughout the shows. Simply incredible. To compare: Im by no means good. I try to practice this song. One playthrough - and im done. Soaking wet. Much respect to these guys. RIP Joey!
100%
Super human
After hearing her say its easy, I told my wife once to scoot up to the edge of the couch and just try to stomp her feet as fast as his bass...after about 2sec she stopped and said "yea ok maybe it's hard work" not to mention the entire rest of his body thrashing like a mother fucker
Absolutely. One of few to achieve that level of ability and performance consistency.
Wearing an overall and a mask!
Joey Jordison was, is and always will be one of the best drummers in the world. The unique thing about Joey is that he was self taught. His drumming skills were ahead of his time. Super fast and precised. Joey is the inspiration of many metal drummers today. Even kids now are still inspired by him. Again, JOEY JORDISON WAS, IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE ONE OF THE BEST DRUMMERS IN THE WORLD.
Well said Luis!
Very Very!! Well Said Mate !!!!!!
Ahead of his time? Come on now, there's so so so many drummers that did this LONG before he did.
@@leeschofield488 Not like Joey. I'm talking Neil Peart, maybe. Not sure who's number one.
Mike portnoy
His jacket looks like it's as heavy as a jean jacket. Imagine performing in that in the summer with that stick height. Brother was inhuman. RIP.
Exactly Jacob!
Mask and heavy jacket playing like that. Jeez
That is why he had short sleeved jumpsuit.
It’s actually a one-piece boiler/jump suit which is a lot more restrictive and traps one’s body heat worse than a jacket. Hence his need for modifications in hotter climates.
Joeys drumming was always exceptional, even more impressive is how he can headbang and move so much in the seat and still nail it every single time. He knows exactly where every drumhead and symbal is in relation to him.
Yes! Still rocking out but 100% accurate
J.J was the reason i listened to slipknot. The guy was on another level way before his time. He's what modern metal drummers today aspire towards.
Nice one Evan
Joey was such a bottomless well of pure energy and skill. Why must the greatest people die so young? It’s a cruel world we live in and we are lucky to have ever had Joey in it.
Wtf I just realized he died in june. Oh what a downer that is right now..
The legacy lives on!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums True, we do have Jay and he’s just as good a drummer.
energy, skill, and talent - talent is something that's earned and comes with time.
what happened to Joey is a true shame.
That stick-flip at 1:30 gives me tingly feelings, just unmatched flow and stage presence.
Yup what a show!
This is prime Joey. Iowa is when they were skyrocketing to fame. A perfect follow up to a self titled album. A high percentage of maggots consider this their best album.
Nice!
It was one fuck of an album lol
they talked about iowa being one of their darkest points of their bands career, hardly working together and all abusing substances of some sort
Maggot here
Definitely my fave slipknot album
Been a devoted maggot since ‘98. Painfull to realize slipknot changed when we lost Paul but slipknot stopped bein’ slipknot when Joey had to leave the band. Loved that guy!!
I hear ya Tom.
Got more Joey coming. Not too far away now man
@@AndrewRooneyDrums awesome!!
Was never a Slipknot fan but man JJ was such a talented drummer.
Me neither, but seeing him playing upsidedown was quite amazing!
At first i don't like how slipknot sounds but man the first time i listened to slipknot i was "holy shit this drummer kicks some fucking ass" and then i dig deeper into who slipknot is and here i am, a maggot. RIP Joey.
@@scalarian1976 The thing with Slipknot is they can sound quite bad but also insanely good, at least in my opinion they have some bad songs but also some absolute masterpieces.
@@lmnts556 you're absolutely right. But i think that statement also goes with most bands tho.
@@scalarian1976 If we are speaking about mental then sure, I think metal genre is even more easy to dislike as when the songs are bad it sounds like headache noise meanwhile other genres are at least tolerable, if that makes sense.
This DVD was my first exposure to Slipknot. I said "that's the calmest drummer I've ever seen." 😂 I thought he had face paint on. Can't wait to see them Sunday for the sixth time!
Ever seen Gene Hoglan? I don't think that man even breaks a sweat.
@@drummerguy4032 oh yeah, he's a beast.
@@drummerguy4032 Gene’s works on Death’s ‘Individual Thought Patterns” and ‘Symbolic’ are timeless masterpieces.
This DVD is what made me fall in love with Slipknot
@@Sybreeds oh yeah 100%
This world didn’t deserve such an incredible human being RIP Joey ❤️
RIP
Joey is my drumming influence. He’s the reason I’m building a music studio and I’ve been listening to Slipknot since 2005 And my mom told me I couldn’t listen to them, I didn’t care. I had to.
Love it!
Hellyeah!!! Listening to real music always offends closed minded people!! Listen if it moves you!
Joey just made it look effortless such a talent R.I.P Joey
Indeed Mark
And also Taylor Hawkins passed away this year
never been a fan of The Knot but this dude was a true artist; a breed rarely seen.
🙌
R.I.P Joey. One of the greatest drummers who didn't choose drums first. Amazing!
Gat?
That intro was a killer South Park episode : “That’s gotta be at least 8 Courics!” 😂 Joey’s drumming became a lot cleaner and his live meter absolutely metronomic as his career progressed. He was only getting better and was peaking before the first signs of his affliction came to the fore (whilst touring for ‘All Hope Is Gone’).
Edit : Never too late Andrew. The two songs that grabbed you are off ‘IOWA’ which is their best album imo.
Thanks Virvum!
I'd say that 2002 (around Iowa) is prime time Slipknot! Joey and Corey especially is reeeeally in their prime!
Craig was definitely in his prime too
Excellent
Early years Slipknot put on one Hell of a show!!!!
Yes Philip!
'Spit It Out' Download 2009, you'll see a crazy crowd and Corey has some cool interatcion with Joey, it's just a badass moment in time 😁
I've recommended this a few times to Andrew; it's crazy how much control they have over the "maggots" in the crowd... well worth a watch :)
It's not a great demonstration of Joey though. For Corey, sure. He has good presence and works the crowd well.
@@jamisonr All I needed was that "JOEY...let's take these motherfuckers home, man" and Corey looking back at him randomly. Joey controls when it kicks back in off Corey's cue for the "Jump the Fuck Up" I'm glad he still does it with Jay. 😁
Always a fan of slipknot since 99 .
Man we lost one of a kind drummer like joey. Looking at this video after couple years of not seeing it..Still blows my mind till this day of his sheer raw talent and work ethic
Joey was a drumming God! RIP Joey 🌹
Watching videos of Joey playing with Slipknot will forever give me the chills, every single time.
I bet
Crazy you picked up on him playing loud. Years later Joey started having tinnitus issues from playing so hard so he changed his technique and how hard he hit the snare and hats.
Damn!
Joey was and always will be remembered for his prowess on drums. Thanks again for covering him and all your videos.
Thanks for watching Craig!
Oh Joey ... I've liked slipknot since 14. I'm 36 now, Joey made me appreciate drummers. A true talent
Not a big Slipknot fan, but watching this guy is very entertaining. He's just tight. Dude is crazy
Joey is the entire reason I became a drummer. He will forever be a legend of the drum world
I was late to the Slipknot party as well. Joey was such a charismatic and animated performer. His neurologic condition was as cruel a fate for an individual at his level that anyone could imagine! Rest In Peace JJ
I’m so glad you watched a live clip instead of a studio one because SK’s live shows have so much more musical tenacity and expression. Don’t get me wrong Joey absolutely cleaned house in recordings too, but SK doesn’t really play to a click (nor do most metal bands) which give the musicians so much more creative runaway to let the music breathe - especially in the percussion section. Despite the shifting time though and all the energy Joey is still always in the pocket not because he respects it but rather HE CREATES IT with his killer accuracy. The hand kick splits you were taking about are a hallmark of Joey’s style but also serve a distinct musical purpose because the fill may be all kinds of crazy and Joey will still find the downbeat and open it up - making it super easy to follow even as a lay-listener and that to me is what makes Joey’s performances so impactful.
Blend that with just a truly kind and humble soul away from the kit with fans and the public and you have not just a paragon of a musician, but a paragon of a human being as well. Rest easy Joey - hope you and Paul are adding your blasts and riffs to the choirs of angels. 😎
Love this comment
His snare is a Pearl JJ1365 Joey Jordison signature and it has a fantastic tone, especially for heavier styles. It deserved this, thank you Andrew.
Awesome snare. I have one BUT in disasterpieces, joey uses a (12 or 13 inch) 25 ply maple ocdp snare.
I miss Joey so much. I will forever be thankful to have seen him twice with Slipknot, plus once with Rob Zombie.
Joey defined modern metal drumming. Rest in peace you absolute legend.
Thank you 1️⃣🤘keep on with Joey🙌❤️
Definitely!
One bad ass drummer and a HUGE loss to music. I've been a lifelong Maggot since day ONE. He was the reason I became a drummer and didn't give up.
RIP BROTHER. 🤘🤘
Hope your with Paul🤘🤘
I had totally forgot how much i love this song. Immediatly added it on my metal list on spotify. Love the Joey content my man. I said back when you did your first Joey video, that i would like and comment on every one you put out. and i am nothing but a man of my word. Highly apreciated content and a well deserved thumbs up my man! Hope you keep deep diving in the Metal
genre!
Awesome! Thank you!
Joey jodison is one of my all time favourite drummers his style and tone is so recognisable, not to forget his famous Joey fills. He is literally the reason I got into playing with a double bass pedal!! Jay weinburg is also doing a great job as the new drummer too! Love slipknot
I remember buying the Disasterpieces DVD and finding these Easter eggs... my god man, it was a daily watch for many months. Watching Joey play was always awe-inspiring! I saw Slipknot live at Download Festival 2009, and it was an 80,000 person mosh pit. The energy was unlike any other concert I've seen.
Joey was so dynamic, just pure, energetic, orchestrated, escaped from insane asylum hellacious fun. I may be just a guitar player, I prefer rhythm cuz it's more fun to me, to have someone like Joey with his chops, feel, and imagination, my goodness how could you not turn it to 11! Brother thank you for everything you did.
Joey was probably my most impactful drum teacher thanks for covering him love the videos thank you 🙏
Joey was my first inspiration into drumming. Grew up listening to slipknot and I was blown away by his speed and ability to play so many different rhythms within the eclectic nu-metal/hardcore style. Miss him a lot.
Joey is just awesome. Many people also forget that fact that when selftitled and iowa came out there were no one in the whole world who played like Joey. He created his own style which has inspired so many drummers. He is like overplaying but stil with good taste. Every metal drummer in someway has been influenced by Joey's unique style. Maybe not directly but still. And they not even know that propably.
R.I.P. Joey ! You were the greatest!
Amazing that when Slipknot came out, they were written off by so many people as a gimmick. Several of the members are actually top notch. Joey being the best of them. Wish he was still with Slipknot.
Yeah this is legit!
Iowa was their peak for sure when it comes to sheer brutality, later stuff is still amazing but they kinda outdid themselves here and Ross Robinson was able to really extract all of that. As far as Joey, he's just a machine at this point, doesn't even look to be breaking a sweat. And imagine wearing all that get-up while playing like that? He's playing was so unique and advanced for the time, he really is one of the greatest Metal drummer to get behind a kit. Still thinking of him and always replaying his drumming in my head.
Nice!
Man joey was such a huge inspiration to alot of metal drummers! He definitely was way ahead of his time with his skills. I was in the 4th grade and only 10-11 years old when I first heard Slipknot's-Wait and Bleed and I've been a fan of them ever since. I'm 30 now so it's been over 20 years roughly since I've been listening to them and I still love them. Joey's and Paul's death hit me hard man. Anyway awesome vid brotha and keep up the great work!!
Joey was always so intriguing to me. I remember going to Sam Ash with my brother when i was 5 or 6 for strings or reeds for his sax, and Joey’s kit was on display in the front. It was just incredible to witness it while knowing that he was able to make this kit just make buildings rumble and crowds bounce. And the 9-pointed stars on the kicks were just the cherry on top. That began my love for drums and eventually has turned into my obsession of playing metal on the kit for the last 10 years or so. REST IN POWER #1! Thank you for these videos Mr. Rooney! Really enjoy ALL of them!
I was just happy to see an ecto 1 on the desk haha
that fill in the middle joey went god mode , to this day the best live drummin iwe ever seen , and i got this dvd almost 20 years ago . it gets me as much today as the first time i saw it . r i p to one of not the best metal drummer in the world - thank you for all the memories
Love that section!
His drumming is top notch and stands out, yet seamlessly blends in perfectly.
Same here! I got into Slipknot late and now they're one of my favorite bands!
Slipknot live in London 2002 is one of their, music industry's best live performances ever, period!!
Joey was so freaking amazing. Best metal drummer ever. The guy was just insane. Ball of energy playing style, so refreshing when Slipknot came out
I love watching these videos. Its a trip down memory lane for me, Slipknot and in particular Joey were favorites of mine when I was in Highschool. The "Iowa" time we are watching now I think was their peak. Its fun to see you experiencing it for the first time and thoroughly enjoying it too! \m/ rock on Andrew \m/
Thanks for watching Ryan!
I'm stil sad for his loss, but his music and videos like these keeps him alive
pls react to joey jordison’s creeping death with metallica. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I will!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Tough to find a great quality version of it, but yeah, he makes that song his.
That’s right up there as Joey’s worst recorded work ever.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Do yourself a favour and don’t Andrew. It may just turn you off him. Never easy playing on a foreign kit and the Metallica gig is no exception.☹️
this isn’t that bad
ua-cam.com/video/r3lZcmvDJ64/v-deo.html
Youre never too late for Slipknot brother. Love the vid.
I appreciate that Justin!
This whole album is the shit. The amount of times the bottom drops out just to come back heavier and crush your skull is unparalleled. So much fucking energy
Yup! Love the energy
Its amazing how enjoyful it is to watch someone else discover slipknot for the first time
Glad you're digging it David!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums if your liking the Joey stuff Andrew you should check out Dave Lambardo of slayer. Possibly the greatest heavy metal drummer of all time. I would go with seasons in the abyss as a good song to check him out
Seen em several times. First time in the early 2000s. They were something different, highest energy I've ever seen at a concerts
AWESOME!
I had the experience of a lifetime seein these guys at a small venue in Columbia MO with Mudvayne before they were big as an opener. Slipknot was the most crowd dominating show I have ever seen. There is nothing comparable to their live show and video does not give the feeling. RIP Joey and Paul
Dang it, still can't believe he passed away 😞😞 I listened to this while in middle school and high school when they were in their prime. It's a shame.
James "The Rev" Sullivan is another absolutely amazing drummer that passed away too early :/
i was into slipknot really big in HS from the "My Plague" song off the Resident Evil soundtrack...fell off for many years due to work and real life stuff...when i saw them in concert when a friend needed someone to go with cuz they had an extra ticket...seeing them live reblew my mind! the energy...the show..everything was top knotch... was able to see them again awhile back and they were still amazing. love that u dig joey, rip to the man
Awesome comment. Love the passion :)
@@AndrewRooneyDrums thanks... glad u are digging slipknot...hope to see more reacts from em! keep up the entertaining content!
I don’t think I could ever get tired of watching you get more and more into Slipknot. There’s a vast, wide catalog out there waiting for you. If you listen to the bands coming up currently, you’ll hear Joey in so many of them. His influence is undeniable and the respect for his impact is evident in both obvious and subtle ways in the sound of today’s bands that grew up listening to Slipknot. I hope I don’t get destroyed for this but their current drummer, Jay Weinberg, is also worth a look. If you can step into those shoes and bring it, you gotta be pretty darn great and Jay is. He’s got some awesome playthrough videos out there, too. Always a pleasure watching your reactions, Andrew!
I agree. Joey was amazing, but Jay is awesome too, and I'd love to see you react to him.
So crazy how he holds the sticks at the ass end but still has so much control. Truly a god on the kit
So glad I got to see him perform live in 2008, so much adrenaline after SlipKnot’s set 🤘
RIP Joey Jordison you introduce me to drums thanks for all you've do
Eloy Casagrande’s (Sepultura) cover of this is the only thing that can get remotely close to Joey’s energy. not a suggestion! just wanted to make note of it in the comment section if any one else hasn’t seen it yet
I’m gonna have to check that out now that I know it exists. He beats the drums like they stole from him. Love it.
Yeah man! His ‘Heretic Anthem’ cover’s sick too. Adam Bjork’s recent cover of ‘Disasterpiece’ is dope af if you haven’t had the pleasure bro.
Thanks for that
Eloy is a weapon
Yes prime joey!!! He was so amazing to watch in person saw him 3 times before he left the band
Awesome!
Perfect way to get hyped up before seeing SLIPKNOT tonight!
got to see slipknot twice, my mom took me for my 13th birthday ill never forget joeys solo, second time was after he passed.. RIP Joey
@Andrew Rooney Drums Doesn't matter how late you were to the Slipknot party...the fact you made it is the point. Excellent video my man!
Keep them coming! From one muso to another, much love and respect !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks bro!
Andrew is so polite, i want him to be my uncle, please HAHAHAHA such a nice lad!
Let's hear it for all the polite Uncles out there!
Thanks for covering another of Joey's drum cams, 100% seeing this live is insane and my mates and I that were drummers were always trying to copy his play style. Big love for Joey, thank you
Keep it coming Andrew! Love that you're finding new drummers in genres you dont usually listen to. I would LOVE for you to dive into the Hardcore world, again its something different but you'll notice the drums and music are filled with passion. You should definitely check out 'Counterparts' Kyle Brownlee's studio playthrough of 'Arms Like Teeth'. The guy is an absolute metronome.
I'm rifling through your videos on Joey right now. I really, really appreciate your progession on your take on this. At first it was "this isn't my kind of music", then "he's really good", to "I'm really happy to do another video". His intensity is unmatched. I appreciate your videos.
You found my Slipknot playlist?!
Thanks for watching Bradley!
@@AndrewRooneyDrums not directly. I scrolled through most of your videos to find the next and the next. I'm in a mood tonight and was watching the Knotfest 2022 video and your video showed up in the list. After a few songs I decided I wanted to see what a drum teacher thought of Joey because he was my favorite. After the first video I thought, oh he's going to do another video... and you did. Down the rabbit hole I went. I don't regret it. Thank you sir.
So fast, so clean, so precise, so weird, he was so self taught. Unique drummer
Love when you react to Joey Jordison. Its like his sticks swing back to his shoulders so cool!.His Performance style speaks to me.Much appreciated.
Love his style Brooke!
Props for leaving your comfort zone and listening to new things.
Met him when he was playing for the Murder Dolls in a small club in SD. He was so nice and chilled…so down to earth
I just realized, starting with the Joey tribute videos, I've watched so many you were in my feed without giving you a sub. Needless to say, love your channel and am officially a subscriber! Thank you!
🙏
I just saw them in Pennsylvania on the 15th! Their performance was absolutely incredible! The 6.5 hour drive to get there I could do without, but otherwise totally worth it!
Excellent!
Cried start to finish Love n miss the man
RIP
Always end up watching these live vids late in the evening, and lying in bed wanting to headbang ahah
I feel you bud. I’m coming on 30 and I feel like I’m late to the party! I’m so sad to learn about Joey but we can only thank the fact we have these videos huh.
Keep going with these reactions!!
Better late than never!
FYI: Joey Jordison also play guitar and made some riffs of their music. That's why he has a great stuff of every note.
The version of this on the record is incredible, I hope you get the chance to listen to it. All the best!
Exactly. Joey Jordison and rest of band help me get through the crowded halls in school and get over the anxiety and claustrophobia that came from such a full environment.
just music alone
I saw Slipknot for the first time at Reading 2000. Honestly, the energy and experience was totally mind blowing. It’s one of the few sets/gigs I can remember fully. We were right at the front in front of Shaun.
Me and my now wife walked away from that firmly in the maggot camp!
He was no doubt, a pioneer. Always fun and amazed seeing him live. If you wanna see a fitting tribute, check out Eloy Cassgrandes cover ... I'll try to link

Long live JOEY JORDISON..!!! He was the reason to follow SLIPKNOT..and now that Jay Wiendberg has left SLIPKNOT I Say GOODBYE I Say hasta la Vista BABY ..Thanks for the memories❤
Your reactions are fun thank you my friend
I appreciate that Tyrone!
Excellent video. That song. That album was was my gateway album to heavier stuff. You should check out Chris Adler, former drummer of Lamb of God. Joey and Chris are my 2 favorite drummers
Love your videos, you should look at some of Joey’s work after Slipknot he was in Scar the Martyr, Vimic and Sinsaenum and they all rocked
Sounds good!
Murder dolls also right?
The first time i heard Wait and Bleed from the first album i was instantly infected!!! Ive seen them 10 times, it would have been more if it had been possible. I spoke to Joey and Cory on rock line, ive help carried sid through the pit, high fived clown at the sound both, so yes a maggot for life!!! RIP Joey!!! Very influential drummer!! Most amazing drum solo i have ever witnessed at a live show!! You need to watch the older stuff on video to really see how they began.
One of the few times I can say hand to God 'I was there'. Absolutely mental concert, One Minute Silence and In Flames were amazing too!!
Excellent Harry!
Watching you discover Slipknot for the first time gives me so much joy! Iowa is one of the best albums ever made in my opinion and Joey was such a talented drummer. Gone far too soon!
Like.. joey was a front man too not just a drummer.. you feel and see his energy pounding
So good.. Slipknot is 9 layers of madness.. a spectacle.. great show
