What I love about Slipknot is that no matter what genre you like, everyone likes something about this band. The homie nodding his head to the beat, the homegirl liking the singing chorus, everyone loves something about this band. They truly are a band for all peoples
R.I.P. joey jordison. The main drummer and ex member in this video died today. Great reaction 👍🏻 i assure you they are nice people under those masks i hope you react to more by them.
@@thealaskanforever The Nonagram (9 Point Star) is the symbol that Slipknot has drawn by themselves. They didn't borrow it from any existing image. The Nonagram, for the band, is a symbol of unity with each other, it's the symbol of 9 people. You're both right but slipknot has referred to it as a nonogram themselves.
I see it as an anti-war song. "I did my time and I want out." The character is referring that he did his required time, either in Iraq, or in the military as a whole and wants out. "Go drill your deserts, go fill your graves" Pretty self explanatory. "Then fill your mouth with all the money you will save." While on deployment, troops make a lot more than back in the states. It's still not a lot, but compared to state-side, it's a small fortune. "I'm done! It has begun, I'm not the only one." The character is at his breaking point, he's fed up with the system as a whole. However, his psyche has been corrupted by what he has seen and done. There are others just like him. The chorus of the song refers to the overall corruption and death of a generation as a result of this war. "Fake anti-fascist lie." The lie based off of the poor intelligence that caused us to invade in the first place. "I've tried to tell you, but your purple hearts are giving out." The part about the purple hearts seems to have more than one meaning. The purple heart is a medal that the U.S. military members receive for being wounded in combat. Purple heart could also mean a literal heart that is in poor health. "Can't stop the killing idea. If it's hunting season. Is this what you want?" Now the character is out of the combat zone, back state-side, but all he has is a messed up psyche. Once the "kill switch" has been turned on, it doesn't turned off. All he has is pent up stress, homicidal and suicidal tendencies with a society that does not care or even blames him as part of the problem. Hence the whole term "Psychosocial."
The biggest difference in pay between stateside & combat deployments is that none of your pay is taxed at the federal level while you're in a combat zone. A lot of soldiers actually re-enlist while on deployments because that rule also applies to whatever cash bonus they get for signing up again.
You have a well written post, but I have to ask if you've ever served, and if you did; did you deploy? I am an Army Infantry vet. The hazard pay for being deployed seems like a good idea and incentive for people who don't bear the stress of the deployment. I can see how this is painted as an anti-war song certainly, as well as a few other ideas. I wanted to address what you said about the pay and the medals, because it paints an incorrect and overly simplistic picture of what its like to be a deployed soldier. The other comment that you made about "poor intelligence" is also misleading. I can say that because I spent my time in the Army specifically in Reconnaissance units. We failed to act appropriately based upon the gathered intelligence; there was no political will to do what needed to be done. And that was because the French, Germans, Russians and Chinese had MASSIVE oil for food deals with Bagdhad. And they were in charge of the UN Security Council at the time. They prevented us from acting upon the good intelligence that we DID have for six months, we had to wait; and even the best intelligence goes bad in that amount of time. And in that six months we watched Russian troops caravan biological and chemical weapon material into Syria. We watched it. And guess what happened with those materials? The being used in Syria. It is an academic, or "gamer" type mindset that believes simplistically that the opportunity to earn extra money while deployed is enough to make it worth the stress. It's not. I can assure you.
@@RowdyGrunt I'm sorry to hear what you have experienced and seen was definitely not easy, you have my fullest respect. I use google to communicate because my english is very bad. But no, I'm not a soldier or anything like that. It took me a long time to understand and research what Corey Taylor was talking about, in the end I came up with that. I find every single song in the album, no matter which album, like most fans, very interesting, especially if there is more to it. Again, I respect you as a soldier and what you have achieved and done.
i see your point of view and it fits in! though i see it as more than just about war in the middle east but being fed up with how fake our society as a whole!! not just our reasons for invading foreign lands but the reasoning behind most manufactured scenarios and the manipulation that goes with them.
The masks was at one point supposed to hide the identities of the band, so people won't be distracted from the actual music. Also it was a way when a member is no longer part of the band, they could be easily be replaced and nobody would notice. Slipknot according to interviews, is supposed to be a unstoppable machine. Craig aka 133(the one pins in his head) is most silent of the band and it's a great honor to hear his voice, he doesn't even really talked to the band much according to interviews. On the genre of the band, they started out as a Nu-Metal (Metal and Hip Hop fusion) best song to hear this style is Spit It Out especially the Download fest live video 2009, as it clearly shows Corey's rap skills and it have all original 9 members in it. Now back to the genre of Slipknot, they tend to walk a grey area of Rock and Metal, but honestly though, the only ones that cares tend to have neck beards. 🤷 Their extremely good Slipknot songs to react to such as Spit it Out, The Devil in I, Wait and Bleed, My Plague, Before I Forget, Duality, just to name a few that comes to mind.
It's a very similar dynamic that GWAR uses so that several people have played the same "character" onstage over the decades (with the exception, ofc, being Oderus Urungus, the founder who passed away and was replaced by an entirely new character).
Ok thats just dumb. If anything it distract your attention from music to just looking at the masks. I like the mask but the excuse for using it makes no sense
Everyone else has given recommendations, so I will explain what the flaming star was. Its a 9 point star, also known as an Ennrsgram. They have 9 members, so they have used it as one of the band symbols. They also do wear uniforms, and change those and masks every album. You can tell the era of Slipknot by the masks and uniforms.
The 9 pointed star is just the symbol slipknot came up with. The wanted something sinister and scary that resembles a pentagram but the star has 9 points one for each member of the band
I know, and in the beginning he was always the kid of the group, riding big wheels and riding Clown's shoulders around. I specifically remember when they walked into the Howard Stern shown 15 to 20 years ago he was on one of the member's shoulders. Joey was the kid for sure and now he's one of the first to go. So sad, damn I'm getting old!
The Moʻai-esque papier-mâché heads are representations of how big their egos got at that point in their career. And they are burning them within their symbol as a way of sacrificing them for the greater good of the band.
I remember the first time I heard slipknot was "Wait and Bleed" playing over the load speaker at a record store in late 1999. I was blown away instantly and was hooked.
You guys need to use both headphones or earbuds to hear the song properly. Wayne is listening to Micks guitar only because he has right earbud and Kayla is listening to Jim’s guitar only since she has the left earbud.
It’s always weird for me to hear people be like “man this stuff is like scary” or “looks creepy”. Man y’all really never seen the true dark side of music and entertainment. Because Slipknot, while good, is like surface level shit. Y’all ain’t even in Death Metal territory here. This was on the radio, the real extreme shit never plays on the radio. Try Cattle Decapitation or Dying Fetus.
Nice reaction! Maybe react to Slipknot - Spit it Out (jump the fuck up) Live at Download 2009. Great performance! The nine-pointed star stands for the 9 members of the band.

Crazy to think that two of the members of this band in this video, Paul Gray and Joey Jordison, have passed away. And the 9 pointed star is made of the 9 members of the band.
Don't know if you've done more Slipknot as just found your channel but the lead singer, Corey Taylor, can really sing, he's in another band called Stone Cold Sour I think it is, and he's totally different to this, guys talented

The concert took place on a huge Russian Military Base.
