How spoiled are we to say this is 'Kind of Dead'? I have no intentions on buying this phone or any other in the near future but I thought the video title was a bit odd.

I've had a pixel 2 xl since day one and, honestly, I love it. I haven't had a single problem with my screen. The best phone I ever owned before this was the Nexus 5. Now this is the best phone I've ever had. Over the years I've owned many iPhones, Samsung Galaxy, Sony and HTC phones. I'm kind of a phone fanatic. The pixel 2 xl is definitely my favorite out of all of them.
I use that squeeze feature all the time, way more than saying Ok or Hey Google.

I have a Pixel 2 XL and I use the squeeze feature a lot. As much as I thought it would be lame and gimicky, it really is quite convenient!

Got a question how did you get your camera to take photos so well? Or is it just stock
Watched this on my 2 XL, and I'm still loving this phone. The software experience is top notch, and the camera crushes it. I miss the heft of my Nexus 6, but I don't miss its Snapdragon 805. The Pixel is an absolute multitasking beast.
I'm in the 8.1 developer preview, so that's a nice upgrade, albeit incremental, and 3 years of software and security updates bring peace of mind. Bring the Hatorade!
I came close to sending my pixel 2 XL back as soon as I received it because of the screen it was just so different than what I'm used to prior to this phone all I've ever had was LCD screens but since I've been using it it has grown on me an I decided to keep it an now the screen doesn't bother me anymore nor does the blue shift an I love the front facing speakers which is the biggest reason I went with the pixel the fast updates was just a bonus and like you said the software is top notch so I'm happy with my pixel but I will have to send it back for another pixel 2 XL because for some reason the squeeze doesn't pull up Google Assistant nor does "ok Google" work my phone doesn't respond to neither. The only way I can get Google Assistant to work on this phone is tap the microphone in the search box on my home screen and when I do that the phone will respond to anything I tell it but anyway I think it's just a rare defect in my phone when it comes to Google Assistant an the squeeze as I've not heard anyone else complain about this issue so I'm confident my replacement device will not have this problem. Also I'm new to pixel how does one get 8.1 right now before it's officially released?
bamajc777 As long as you are willing to work with "beta" software (I've been doing it for years) just log into your Google account and enroll in the Android Beta Program. If you don't like it, you can opt out, but when you do, the device has to do a factory reset, so make sure you are backed up.
Thank u finally pointing out all OLED screens have the "shift". I adjusted the colours on my V30 and voila no wash out and screen looks fabulous. Surely same can be done on pixel?
google gets knocked for this "screen issue" but yet apple gets away with making the same exact phone 4 years in a row?

Felix S. It's more a case of it has a premium feeling, where as LG were making a big deal of the G series finally not being plastic, and it felt cheaper than the G4. I don't own a pixel 2, I do want a 2 XL however, and hope the cold metal feeling persists as that's one of my favourite parts of the morning

This would've been undoubtedly one of the best devices of the year if they didn't messed up the display part. But yeah glad to hear that google is fixing that color dullness issue as that would solve a lot of the problem people have with it. Yeah the blue tint is not very noticeable and people can get used to it after using for a while. But if you can just get pass that display phase you are absolutely gonna love the phone.

So I originally preordered the phone on launch day but canceled it after all of the news about the screen and was worried with the cost. I'd like to know what you think about the screen after you receive the update.
All the buzz with the screen, I went personally and had the phone on hand and indeed I saw the blue shift in color that is obvious but the phone is great I really like it. I'm getting one.
Efrain Lozada I have it and it's great. Noticed slight blue tint myself because it was talked about and a day later I totally forgot all about it. I also use my phone at night all the time.

Jeff L yes don't listen to these reviews ,news is limited with phones , I love my xl2, the update for saturated colors is on the way, and right now there a chip lying dormant waiting to be activated Google visual core , which will make the camera even better !
Agreed, I don't even care about the color issue, or the blue shift. I have the Pixel XL and I am really happy so I think the XL 2 will be good, I saw it in person and it's not an issue for me. But I do worry about the burn in and the microphone quality when recording videos. Thanks for sharing.
Well the blue shift isn't really an issue as it's something that happens with most if not all OLED displays. Then there's the colour saturation and that just comes down to preference so not an issue either. Had mine for a few days after trying a demo in store. My instant reaction to looking at the display at all angles was 'Wtf is everybody moaning about with this screen?'
Seriously just go into a store and have a play with one. Don't go looking for issues. Use it how you normally would. It's a cracking device and I really really like it.

When I had a look at this phone in store, dammnn those bezels :/ looks like the screen is a raised rectangle in the centre
you can get rid of that white hue extending from behind the search bar by enabling "Use dark theme "from home Settings

Pixel 2 XL is a great phone but if it would have stayed in it budget it would have a lot of hype whereas it would have overcome the iPhone X

Thank you so much for your honesty regarding the "blue shift" and showing that it is present in some form in most displays.
I just got the first generation Pixel XL about 40 days ago from Verizon. However I'm having a lot of problems with the battery already. The battery life isn't great and it gets extremely hot while charging. I'm thinking about seeing if Verizon will just take it back and maybe I can upgrade to the Pixel XL 2 in that Panda color lol

supreme84x smaller pixel has a Samsung panel which is beyyer but lower res .

I love these reviews on after the honeymoon phase. Everybody talks about the initial thoughts and review but doesn't do a review after a month or so to say how is it as a daily driver. Keep up the great work
If the screen is more accurate then you should test it to see if it is like you do Real Audio. I for one wish more phones were color accurate.

I got sometimes problems with fingerprint a lot of times doesn't recognize my fingers. That's unacceptable!!!! Thinking to return it. By the way no problem for me with the screen for now...
I just received my Pixel 2 XL and I am absolutely loving it!! the blue screen just isn't visible unless you make the scrreen look a certain way so it shows up. but day to day use it is vitually non-existent. i have all the software updates and I tried satuation and vivid boost and natural and i have been keeping it on natural. maybe the update fixxed something but i love it. doesn't seem muted to me. and saturation mode isn't quite as saturated as the samsungs but I still prefer the so called muted colors. burn in will have to wait and see. maybe the update will fix it and maybe not. but I've only had it 2 days and there is none...but i have to give a week or so...i am so glad i bought this phone!!!

At least you, as I did, show the fact that several other flagships have the hue problem,,or factor. People have just been dicing the screen for its issues. You're right in another area,,, the cost. For those prices, you expect the very best. Though other flagships have issues too,, and still the bucks are high. Good review.
3:12 correction for you. Vivid mode was always active by default. I had one on launch day so I know this to be true. It just isn't really noticable

My Pixel 2 updated without the cable from the latest backup restore data from my Pixel XL. Brilliantly done. No fuss.
I want the XL but looks like the regular one has no issues. But don’t want to settle for a little screen

Excellent review, one correction though when speaking about the muted colors stop using examples of icons in the dock when comparing color vibrancy. Those icons are even more faded because of the doc's transparency. You'll notice the same issue when you install the dock on a different device.
This phone is so smooth. I like the screen actually quite a bit! Compared to my original Pixel XL, the whites are more uniform across the screen, though the colors really are more dull. Can't wait for the update so I can punch them up. I do love the feel of the phone in the hand, and don't really see the blue tint anymore.

I love my phone. It's lightning fast. The screen looks great. I didn't choose the vivid color setting. I heard that screen color calibrations were not (right) but I don't see that being a problem at all.

Either note 8's screen is too warm or Pixel 2XL's too cold but one of them definitely messed up with the color temperature
Mine got burn in on top and bottom. I returned and now I am sad
On my Pixel 2 XL, I have blue tint on either the top or bottom or both at all times. There is not a way I can hold it where it does not suffer from this. I'm having a new one shipped to me.
I had my 2 XL for a week. I honestly have no complaint about the screen. I also don't have several phones laying around to compare it to lol. So far this phone is really nice. Battery, camera,and video are outstanding.
The screen issues are overblown, I think. And I trust Google to deliver a future software update to enable a wider color gamut. So for me... the Pixel 2 XL is surely going to be my next phone!

You're correct. The screen is actually really nice. I compared it to a coworker's Note 8, and the colors of the Note 8 look ridiculous now.
I've been interested to try project fi, but I'm on Verizon for right now. I really want to try the Esim feature on the phone at some point though.
Wow...you are the first reviewer who actually compared other phone panels with white background...every phone does exhibit shift in color be it led or lcd...be it note or pixel...dont know why no other reviewer compared the blue shift issue the way you have...
So happy with the S8+ right now.

I honestly don't understand people's issues with the colours of this device. I just picked one up and tried the new saturated mode then immediately switched back to the natural look. People must just like seriously over saturated colours and I don't get it. I also don't see how that makes the screen bad considering it is just a preference.
Please tell me there are other people that prefer this too.
The colors towards the bottom of the phone seem duller when on the homescreen because the stock launcher has a white transparency effect applied. Do your research next time.
Have you been bugged by the recent demonetisation of UA-cam videos?
I'm glad some sanity is emerging after the initial hysteria over the display. My wife just got the Pixel2 XL and the screen looks great to both of us. I don't see any blue shift but I don't spend my day looking at solid white screens from an off-angle either.
i got the pixel 2 xl and the blue shift was worse than any other oled Ive used. It was also grainy even at the default brightness. Its not acceptable on a phone that was almost $1000. i returned it and got the smaller one and it doesnt have those issues. Google messed up.
You chose the 2 XL given the 2:1 aspect ratio. Because of reduced bezels? Or is there a more practical reason? You liked the handfeel of the first gen. Was that because of it's smaller size? You are disappointed in the display issues in the 2 XL...
It seems that the smaller Pixel 2 is getting discarded and forgotten in tech reviews despite it having less criticisms and being a more practical device when factoring in it's value.

Coming from a Galaxy S7 edge, I find the blue shift to be not a big deal!! As well as the "lack" of saturated colors. I think the phone is beautiful and beyond smooth
i bougth the note 8 and i m loving everything but batterylive butt fast charge saves the day.

Why didn't you just use the supplied USB-C cable to transfer your USB-C phone?
I am in favor of true to life colors on the display and also want to use an LED display because they are more battery efficient than LCD. So I use the sRGB mode on my One Plus 3T and I am quite happy with it. The Google Pixel 2 XL seems to rendering a similar color gamut and I would not mind it personally.
You're the only one who's not blaming Google as if this is the first phone with a blue shift on the display. Some of the other reviewers are way over blowing the display issue. There's much more to the pixel that requires equal attention
I prefer the look of smaller bezels but I have zero issues with bezels like the ones on last year's model. I'm just kind of sick of hearing how bezels are now ugly, when they were a none issue for literally everybody not long ago...

On the contrary, the blue tilt is incredibly annoying to someone who cares about colour temperature. It makes things cooler. Yellow-orange can be brought down to white. Not a complete deal breaker, but I may return my phone in exchange for something better that doesn't have this issue at least not to such a large degree.
I kinda disagree with the statement that there's no real need for accurate colors.
Some of us need an accurate display for things like editing photos. The problem is that the calibration is a little off and it's not really that close to sRGB.
A little bit of research and you would have seen that the next update is bringing in more saturated colors as an option

I made the mistake and got an iphone x at extreme angles it has the blue tint I should of gone for a pixel as that was my original phone of choice the cameras are worse on the iphone x and ios 11 has been freezing and acting up alot for me with glitches have an iphone 7 plus on ios 10 and can tell a difference with the bugs. gonna swop it out for a pixel 2 I think

well I've gone back to my 7 plus on 10.3.2 packed the iphone x up ready for the ups to collect ...had the phone since launch day and I think the front camera in low light is poor and I am not seeing much of a difference quality wise from my 7plus and the portrait modes are not perfect that will probably be in beta forever.....had freezing when I was using the camera app so i had to wait until it unfroze to get out of the camera app I am not impressed with it over my 7plus this is when a home button can come in handy........
That's a shame. Haven't heard of major performance issues in reviews though, perhaps you just got a bad unit. From the reviews I've seen though, I agree the front camera looks poor. In fact, I think compared to the Pixel 2 the camera on the iphone comes off second best, but it's still early days with the iphone.

God forbid google put a colour accurate display. Like seriously? You don't like it then fine, google gives you a "vivid" option (that's pre enabled!, and will be even more "vivid" in future) but atleast don't mention it a thousand times as a negative? Some of us do appreciate the natural looking display very much where some OEMs ship phones with highly over saturated displays *cough* Samsung *cough*
btw, even apple has properly calibrated display and they don't provide any vivid option to jack up the saturation.

So does flipping the "Vivid Colors" switch to "On" completely fix the problem? If it's that simple of a fix, I don't see why there's so much complaining
