"Why not make the phone out of plastic.... " You know why? Because of you tech reviewers complaining about it so much, you all to blame. Samsung, and others, did make phones out of plastic but the reviewers said they felt cheap and nasty. So companies tried leather and softer plastic, so the reviewers said the phones dont have a premium feel in the hand. So phones made of metal came out and guess what? -No wireless charging! So they made phones with glass back and wireless charging, then people complained that the phones are slippery and they are easy to crack the glass! No phone is perfect and some sort compromise has to happen and manufactures need to choose the martial for their phone and people need to understand its not easy to do that and include all the features and the premium feel that people want without any drawbacks.
The M6 you can get mad, but don't lump me in with people who complain about plastic.
Doubt it; manufacturers just wanted to make their phone feel premium and while tech reviewers can say all they want about wanting more for a phone they are reviewing at the time, they don't have the most say in the manufacturing of their next phone. In this era of tech, smartphones are more than just tools but can now be regarded as status symbols. Also trends in the smartphone landscape can 'influence' OEMs for planning their upcoming products, like how the iPhone X, 8/Plus reverted back to using a glass back to keep up with other glass back phones while also allowing for wireless charging, or so they can just make an excuse to differentiate from their previous iteration of iPhones. Either way, most of the pressure comes from competition, and not entirely from the verdicts of tech reviewers.
You're right my friend. Glass is breakable , metal is not wireless charging compatible,,and plastic is cheap. Never happy.
@@jortuspelatus7364 You're so right. No one I've spoken to are happy bout wireless charging. Too slow. I bought my girlfriend a wireless charger from Samsung,,,for her s7,,,she had the charger on all night and woke to only 80 percent charge. And the phone was only 4 or 5 months old. As long as the port is easily changed out, a worn out port, isn't a big cost replace ment. Seems cell phones were only expected to last is two year's anyway. That's why I'd never pay more than about 500 for any phone.
This is what I've come to expect.
".....brought to you by D-Brand....pickle.... SCREAMER.... I'm Juan Carlos Bagnell."
I am just glad that he doesn't say his name 10 times.
😂
Without those the review is incomplete. Specially the pickle.
I like The Pixel 2 more than the XL. I think it looks nicer and I don’t mind the large bezels.
Then you should get it, if you prefer this design, there is literally nothing that will bother you in the phone. It's snappy, smooth, has an excellent camera and solid design.
i make tech videos in my channel, please check it out if you have some time to spare. I would really appreciate it.
#teampixel for mainly one reason. Best software experience. period.
Nick Makadia no slowdowns?
You mean team shitty hardware ?
Fernando5455 well we dont pay 1600$ for a notch atleast.
Pinchy Prince The iPhone X is $999 where the hell did you get that number
Fernando5455 pixel xl2 is 950 $ for 128gb model so lets take 128gb iphone x with fast charging 80$. And 2 years of apple protection for 200$ all of this for a notch 😂😂.
I love Samsung, but man the lag that follows after a while is killing me. I NEED a lag free experience with Android. Pixel 2 will be for me.
sedrick campbell ... You may want to try a Huawei Mate 9... Or maybe the Mate 10
sedrick campbell I haven't experienced lag with my note 8 yet, had it since it dropped. But honestly I've never had an android that didn't lag, and I've had a few pixels, hate that stock android though.
Mickey Mania all the notes have I ever used started to lag after a few months even though had great specs and hardware at the time. Pixel devices are free of this stupid lag and slow downs that almost every samnsung phone suffers from.
IKR tried of Samsung I’m getting the pixel 2
Best phone to me and even better then the 2XL. What isn't being praised is the battery which can last me a whole day (12-14hrs) unless you play games which I rarely do. Doesn't have any shift or lag and I recommend getting phone case by Google which makes phone feel smooth and grippy to the touch. And for me I am a simple Lord who likes the best software experience coupled with best easy to use fast camera while having menus I will actually use and not be there taking up space. Oh and that keyboard is second to none with being able to customize to either which hand you use to type, finding things on the web all while messaging. Google just makes it seem seamless.
man, i'm absolutely LOVING my pixel 2 clearly white 128gb. thing is awesome. the performance is insane!
Jay Ochs what's so insane about it? Just asking because I have a note 8 with many features and insane performance also. My battery life is off the chain (great) no lag, snappy, beautiful display, and definitely not boring as stock android, your turn 😉😉😉
give your note 8 4 months and it'll be just like every other samsung phone that gets slow and laggy as hell. and the size of these phones are getting absolutely ridiculous. sorry bud, no phone out there matches the performance and speed of a stock android phone. it's just much better. (and this is coming from someone who's owned two S3's, S4, S5, S6, S7, Note 4, Note 5.) samsung has decent features, but the lag and bogged down experience can just get annoying. my pixel 2 is perfect and i've never had a phone this fast. i've played with the S8 and yeah they seem quick, but not as quick as a pixel
Jay Ochs okay after 6 months when it running great what will you say???
Mickey Mania I'll say good for you, but I'm done with Samsung phones lol. idc what you like, it doesn't affect me whatsoever.
Lol in 6 months Note 8 will still be on Android Nougat; Pixel 2 will probably be on Android 8.4 or something, and still running fast.
Pixel 2 > Pixel 2 XL.
I'd take those bezels over a screen with issues.
Yup.
I’d take iOS over Android
The build quality on the pixel 2 is amazing in person trust me.
switch to the smaller bc of that and the bezels are not as bad as people say
Corp.FlashBack so when iPhones have larger bezels it’s a dinosaur? But when Pixel has large bezels it’s “not as bad as people say”
Pretty fair review. I've bounced back and forth between wanting one or not last few days, but due to stock issues I don't even have the option to purchase the SKU I want.
So just going to wait it out a month, see what HTC and Nokia reveal, and what black Friday deals there are for Samsung phones. If Google doesn't have an announcement about other color mode options by then I'll probably pass on it.
That's the "nice" problem to have right now. TONS of great options.
Don't forget the rumored Razer phone too, hopefully it will be coming out soon
Awesome review, short and I get your experience and point of view in the phone. Other short reviews just read off the press release. I'm enjoying 'the real...review ' you also do. Put it all together and it's pretty in depth. Keep up the good work.
It occurred to me in the car this morning - how does the "squeeze" function work when you have a car dock that grips the phone. I have to make sure the dock has a tight grip on my phone to use it in portrait mode without it falling out. Would this set off Active Edge?. Do you have to disable it , then remember to reenable it when you get out of the car?
Dudley Forster this is a great question
Squeeze then release together trigger the feature. Squeezing alone does nothing.
Dudley Forster Just turn the feature off
It activates in my car dock. After I exit though, it doesn't come back. I totally should have put that in the video.
Dudley Forster it didn't cause any issues for me
I really wish the bezels were at least of the normal size lol. That kinda look way too big, like seems a bit unnecessarily big but yeah at least we get the stereo speaker and all the camera features. But somehow the smaller pixel seems to be a better option now.
i make tech videos in my channel, please check them out if you have some time to spare. i would really appreciate it if you could.
It’s basically a smaller Nexus 6P without a headphone jack. Cool!
Are the Dbrand skins for the Pixel 2 waterproof?
Front facing portrait makes this interesting.
Got my pixel 2 yesterday. I'm loving it so far. And no I haven't used the squeeze feature yet but I will get into it. Because I like the idea
Probs the one I’d pick if the 2 XL display issues aren’t at least improved with future batches.
Reminds me of the 6P, but smaller
I actually already ordered my Panda skins for my Pixel 2. They should be here tomorrow.
Still cant decide between the smaller pixel 2 and the iPhone X. Need to try both :)
The iPhone has a large display but no multiwindow support thats garbage. But everything around photos is nice. I like moments and live photos and the zoom lens can make incredible portrait photos.
Pixel: Front facing speakers with bezels you can grip on in landscape. No stupid garbage 2:1 aspect ratio.
Fast!
Great reviews as always. I really think this phone (the pixel 2) is a better choice than the bigger one though because of its 16:9 screen, it is more practical especially it's size. If a much bigger screen is a must then the note series would be the most practical go to phone because the screen size has a function than just being a design. Well, one question, can you recommend this phone in 2018?.. Because of the notch craze this year , i am looking for something notchless but classy looking one. Do you have a revisited review of this pixel 2?
Juan, please keep us up to date if you find any good USB-C headphones/earbuds! I've been looking for the past 2 years since picking up my Nexus 6P and I've yet to find something solid.
Luke Taylor will do!
JuanBagnell thanks so much! I have no issues with Bluetooth audio, but I'd love to see OEM's pick up on some USB-C solutions, even if it's as simple as charging a Bluetooth set via USB-C. Down with dongles!
You need to download tango core to use the AR apps on pixel and galexy phone's. But I'm sure we'll get a built in update
My Pixel 2 XL replacement unit is on its way. Fingers crossed. The rest of the phone is amazing, if not the best, in business.
You can download hdr camera pro with a time of features of that's your thing
So is the crappy audio a hardware issue? Or can it be fixed with a update. Cause damn with this phone if it ain't one thing it's another.
Benny Blanco from the Bronx honestly don't know. Speaker crackle would probably be a hardware issue.
Gpixel was great in terms of software specs Camera portrait, rear and audio...regards with the blue shifting it doesn't. Matter as long as the performance won't affect...as always JCB great and awesome review👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Are you guys gonna make the full review for LG V30? Or nah
How strong is that wind that blows over a tripod?? Are you in Colorado??
Raiterio Patterson. My tripod had a screw on cap on the bottom leg,so I filled them up with marbles.
When are you guys gonna review budget phones again?? Like the moto x4 maybe???
Hey Juan. Would you consider comparing the Pixel 2 with Nokia 8?
I'd love to if we could get our hands on a Nokia. So far, they've been radio silent.
i like this smaller design. Oversized phones are jus oversensationalized imho
Can't wait for the GS9 Review
Nice review Juan, but I can't swallow this amount of cash for the argument of software when it already existed as a Nexus.
Flagship is flagship. They should give us all for our money, not only good software, camera but most of all awesome display, wireleess charging, etc.
Someone needs to invent a dongle that allows you to plug in to charge while using headphones. Probably already exists, but I've not seen one.
Actually, I've noticed that after a few days, my pixel 2 xl charges much faster than the initial few charges. Just thought I'd throw that out there
I wouldn't be surprised. There probably is a little battery break in time worth revisiting for our after the buzz.
JuanBagnell Like, I had noticed it charged really slow at first, like 0-100 was 2.5 hours, but I got like 42 percent in a half hour earlier today. It still takes forever for the last 20 percent tho
Watching this on my Lg g6... Wonder of a phone
The pixel 2 doesn't have LL the screen issues of the xl because it is by htc and the xl is by lg
Tech Era Actually very true, and the Pixel 2 from HTC has a Samsung screen. Should have got HTC to build both of them.
Brian M yaa only htc cannot build all of the phones because of the volume of the phones I guess
I'm just thinking how Pixel 2 will hold up in 2021 but I like the simplicity very much.
What game was that please??? Thanks 🙏
Big fan.
Could you please compare the pixel 2 with xz1 compact?
the green old Lumia look awesome 0:51
Dr AA damn I miss those old Nokia phones...
I agree you, I had Lumia 920, 925, 930, 1520 which are one of the best phones I had. Unfortunately, I give up WP, Now, I m with android I have good quality too it is HTC U ultra. But still I believe the combination of WP and nokia phones is the best . WP has the best user interface , In contrast IOS has the most ugly interface, Android on the other hand you can do what ever you want , its awesome,
Can we get a pixel 2 after the buzz?
Rs.40k ($600) is what I paid, after having been torn between dis & the 5t.. the price made it an impulse buy! 🔥
What marvel game was that?
Being a guy, I'm happy with the bad ass look of the black color. And think the glossy top and matte texture at the bottom looks cool. And the all glass front looks bad ass too.
I enjoy stock android. It is my favorite os experience. I really want the pixel But I can’t bring myself to spend that kind of money on the pixel 2 or 2 xl at this time. There is just too much going on with those phones for me to justify it. I will wait and see
Obsesión with the bezel Craig about headphone jack and materials of the phone. Any way almost every person put ugly cases in the iPhone and galaxy s8. So is a point less wasted time spiking about metal or plastic. This phone is awesome try the phone first and spike later.
Great title for this smartphone👌👌👌
Nexus always had the best Android software experience, with sub-par hardware.
I'm seeing the exact same thing here. I own the original Pixel XL and the design has not grown on me at all.
I've had to replace it twice due to crashes/reboots and a broken USB-C port.
I expected Google to really step up their game with the 'Pixel' phones, but that's really not what we're getting.
It seems to me like a smart marketing ploy to charge the same amount as an iPhone so that people are inclined to think they're getting something just as good/premium. And it's working.
I don't really see any benefit to owning an Android device now, apart from USB-C support and not having to use iTunes.
I'll be buying an iPhone X. Apple have slowly added & polished all the features that I used to use my android device for, like;
Changing default applications (web browser, keyboard)
Great battery life (since the 5S I believe)
Designs innovation.. It's obvious more time, care and money went into the design for the iPhone X than the Pixel 2.
Oh, and I can use the Google assistant and all other Google services just as I could on a Pixel.
wireless charging is so unnecressary, i dont like plastic phone covers because they tend to shatter like glass if you drop the phone also makes them more vurnerable for other problems like components inside getting a good beating when they dont have anything to absorb the hit, hidden harware problems may occure even if the phone looks ok after you drop it onto the floor. Also plastic cover phones tend to have heating issues compared to other metal framebody phones.
Should i buy iphone 8 (655$) or google pixel 2 (700$) ?
Watching this on the iPhone 5S...
What about the V30 Review?
Knocking the bezels on a phone with 2 front facing speakers is just dumb. It makes for a bad review when you give the negative when you dont point out right away why it maybe worth it so others.
What's the name of game he's playing?😅
Seems you may have forgettent to mention if this phone works at all while in China?????
I'm LOVING my Pixel 2 Mini! About time it got unique love from Reviewers. XL isn't for everybody.
Little phone fans rejoice!
Mini??
Last Night Yes Mini. More straightforward than saying "the smaller Pixel 2"
I really want to call it the Google Pixie...
XL would've been one of the best phones out there if it didn't had the display issues, now it's exclusive to people who could tolerate a fairly mediocre display. And over that it costs $200 more than the smaller pixel 2, which is ridiculous from the beginning as it doesn't have any extra features like duel camera, it's just the aspect ratio that they charge 200 for.
i make tech videos in my channel, i would appreciate it if you could check it out.
I wish the best for the ones who would be buying this line of phones.
Watching on my Pixel 2.
Me too😛
Me too
Just ordered my pixel 2 ... Can't wait to get my hands on it xD:D
Sushant Reddy Same here bro.. Was happy to see someone else as excited as I am! 😄
40k was a mouth watering deal. Btw still looking for some good cases, anything you finalised upon?
@Damodar Keny ,
I got my pixel on Saturday...and I just love it.!!!!! Amazing experience hahahaha... I havenot decided on cases yet but shortlisted one by Annure and Spigen.....these are good.. Spigen is relatively expensive..like 1300 RS.
Damodar Keny , how's your experience with Pixel 2? I was about to order Google pixel xl old model hahahaha then Flipkart came up with this offer xD
Sushant Reddy Still awaiting delivery :-D
Only downside I had to buy the blue one, coz the black went out of stock.. thus sorely looking for good minimal cases.. I like one by "Mnml".. only thing international shipping, so may have to wait...
Sushant Reddy lol.. I was abt to buy the 5t.. but den 7k difference sealed the deal. 😅
Accessories are so readily available & of high quality for OnePlus ! Dese pixels don't even have Google original cases available in India.
I like the way it's been stressed that "The pixel 2 is the best camera phone for auto mode pictures" not necessarily the best camera phone. I think reviewers should go deeper into the full capabilities of the camera when using manual controls and not just compare phones in auto mode, it doesn't make any sense now.
donxalamar this phone doesn't have pro mode I believe
Atif Ghafoor I know and that's what I'm talking about. Other phones have really good manual control that improve the user's experience beyond just their auto mode capabilities which this phone doesn't.
donxalamar I think alot of companies don't go into that cause alot of people won't use that when taking pictures like I recently got a htc u11 and I don't mess around with that sort of stuff just point and shoot.
Atif Ghafoor But a lot of people do take the time to fiddle with manual controls. I do it, not always but often. A review should also kind of educate people especially when comparing certain features of phones. This is not 2013-14 when the vast majority of phones camera were richless and very limited. If when comparing phones reviewers talked about what people can achieve with the manual control people would see the real value of it and would use it more (not always). The same happens with the audio enhancement control some phones have that others don't and makes your experience better beyond the default setting.
Atif Ghafoor try a third party camera app
Google will learn from opting for cheap screens for greater profit and next year build a killer XL. The smaller version however is best for ths year even if it does cost $1200 smackers down under..
Thats a cool hat you had
What is the name of the game at 3:40?
josejj230 marvel future fight.
Weyland-Yutani hat. You're an Alien fan, aren't you? Haha.
Chuc Quang Yup!
I don't really see what's so special about the software here. I use Nova Launcher on every phone, so it all looks the same to me. All that matters are features and specs. The only thing I find interesting is how successful software can imitate the shallow depth of field from bigger sensor cameras. It sure is another step to making dedicated cameras obsolete for many people.
Who made the display for the original pixel XL, HTC?
Michael Wilson Samsung. My original Pixel XL uses a Samsung AMOLED
Hit it right I the nail more expensive nexus
4:36 lg v30?
Check out lawnchair launcher and compare screen color differences!
I don't get why people are mad about the hardware of this phone. "Looks like a small 6p" that maybe true. But every iPhone is the same. Why can't Google just sell great software in nice useable body with those speakers. I love pixel phones and I love Android
Nexus line = mid range price high-end phones , pixel line = mid range phones high-end prices
For the 650$ price, i could see a demographic that would like what the Pixel 2 offers and oversee its shortcomings. However... In my country it costs 967$ for the 64GB model. That is NOT an offer i can recommend, not in a vacuum, and especially not seeing as the Note 8 undercuts it by 40$.
Daniel Mladenov yeah the international pricing on this phone is out of hand.
You couldn't get ARCore apps to work because you didn't have ARCore services installed.
were is my 30 review!!!!
After comparing how well my wife's Nexus 5X has stood up to several years of living in her handbag with her keys and change & being regularly dropped by the kids (it still looks almost new), and how poorly my "premium" aluminium Nexus 6P has stood up to a couple of years of being coddled - the black anodized aluminium is scratched and chipped to hell - I'm over aluminium phones.
Matthew Sharpe plastic/polycarb, Kevlar, carbon fiber, wood, leather, so many other materials we could use...
Just came back from BestBuy after checking the P2XL. My biggest concern before release was bad design choices, but after checking it out I actually love the back design, but enough of that. The front of the device is what killed it for me. Absolutely DISGUSTING blue shift. Absolutely terrible side bezels, and even more so, absolutely terrible rounded corners. On a S8/S8+/Note8 you don't even notice all of those cause the screen just melts into the device body, but here it just sticks right in your face and I just cannot unsee it. Even on the LG G6 the flat design with similar screen looks way way way better. Keeping my 6P for another year here. This isnt worth the money
Google will get the hardware right, just give them couple more years. With the acquisition of the research and development team from HTC, and hiring Apple's engineer to build their own chipsets, Google's not playing around. Very soon you will see the perfect smartphone, that has the best software in any smartphone along with great hardware.
Pixel 2 bend test is weak around the power button.
pixelbat damn, i'll remember that when i try bending my phone pretty hard..
m
Man I cant wait for Pixel 3 lol...yeah I just my pixel 2
😂 Thank god I managed to order an iPhone X as AR on the Pixel 2 is almost as embarrassing as it's cheap designed at Toys R Us look and all of the reported issues too. 💯
nuyou21 so you buy a phone for ar? lol
Shadow Gamer 😂😂 MR FAKE PROFILES!!! Still trolling and crying I see. So you buy a Pixel 2 for it’s controversial hardware failures and beta software? 🙄😂
Screen down on a rock.. That's special, heh
always with that same ok go song
It's much better than the XL
this feels like a mid range phone. Not even a competitor to the s8.
Apple always has more dev support. Because people actually by iPhones. You know how many pixels I’ve seen in the wild? Non. I’ve already seen 4-5 iPhone 8’s by friends.
I have a pixel my sister has pixel and my friends have pixels one has a note 8 and one has iphone 5s but getting a pixel lmao you can do so much more with androids software people that only buy iPhones because their friends own them is the reason why they call you guys isheep
No extra feature=good software oh ic
Holly Hsieh what "extra" features do you need besides the myriad it comes with? besides the headphone jack, this seems to have a hell of a lot going on.
$375 on black Friday!
*Metal frame, not aluminum.
Being Google is a double edged sword... iPhone users will like dis upgrade, while android enthusiasts will still criticize saying nexus were cheaper, howsoever Google tries to improve on hardware.
It's a much better phone overall compared to the Nexus line.. how can one not see dat! #TeamPixel
Damodar Keny - Price?? Is the price of this phone can be justified? I don't think so.
Mark Dice i am not saying I disagree .. None of the phones on the market justify their price... It's all bout subjectivity.. Yes Google is trying to mint money, so are all of the others.. unfortunate 4 us consumers, but one gotta vote with their own wallet.. don't like it don't buy it. They will have to lower the price, but den some ppl don't mind coz they see wat they want. Personally if it comes down to choosing Samsung hardware or Google software, I'll prefer Google any day of the week. I miss Nexus line, but I know it ain't coming back, just like the headphone jack.
And I do appreciate the hardware improvements on the camera etc. Dat pixel brings to the table, compared to nexus... Not to forget dis is still early days, Google is eyeing silicon, and complete manufacturing of mobile devices.
Sounds like a damn infomercial
“Why not make the phone out of plastic?”
Umm, because you’d complain about it being made of plastic and feeling cheap
Allan Middlebrooks you must never have watched any of my videos. Fun.
Do v30 review
Nir Kopp coming soon
A phone that has two years of updates means it is good for three years. A phone that has three years of updates means it is good for 4 years. That is, we assume it will be good for another year after the third year update. Here's my question. Why is this even important? In 2017 who keeps their phone for 4 years? Nobody in my circle does. Anyone who has the money to buy a flagship phone honestly tends to upgrade every year and on the long side, every two years.
So question is ok got other amoled panels to be pinkish of access but not blueish? And you telling me that over saturated colors are natural colors? Really get out of here lol the issue is not the display is there lack of knowledge they have on display technology. Then so many Fanboys want there product to reign supreme 🤣. If you brought a different device, be happy with it. You don't have to justify your purchase
Why is software being called a selling point exclusively for the Pixel line? People have been criticising custom skins for years, but the Pixel Launcher is exactly that - just another interface with its pros and cons. The CPU power in today's phones does not result in stuttering or sever performance degradation anymore - the Pixel's interface has no real advantage. That said, you can easily state that timely updates indeed is a major selling point of the Pixels.
AlexKulibin because phone software and support is more than just a launcher?
i've been considering the pixel for it's software experience but then again i love iOS, I'm only thinking about switching because I need a better battery life. thoughts?
As always great review, yet I stay with my iPhone 6s :)
Im switching from my 6s after 8 years of iphone to this, wish me luck haha
Alex Schwartz Go for the plus, the screen isn't as bad as they say
I did, it arrives tomorrow. I just hope i cant get used to using it! haha. 4.7 inch to 6 is a big jump, but i take pictures and edit them and watch youtube and browse the web a lot on my phone.
it also breaks in half
Geert Matthys no it doesn't. Just cracks in half.
S8 beat this Pixel 2 ! Or Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact beat this Pixel 2 !
